We headed to Loula's the morning before our long drive south to Yellowstone - and are so glad we did! Located in a converted Masonic lodge, it was a cute, local spot. I had the biscuits and gravy - and my husband opted for the smothered hashbrowns. Both were delicious and pretty standard breakfast/diner fare! However, even for breakfast, we opted for one of their famous pies! Based on the day's options, we went for the huckleberry - mixed berry pie, warmed up and served ala mode. Neither me nor my husband are fruit pie people...but when in Rome, you have to try a local delicacy! And we actually both really enjoyed it! I was able to order a "all-huckleberry" pie to be made within around 24 hours to be ready 8am the next day. The pie was ready on the dot when I arrived I was given my pie. The cafe was bustling and looked vibrant. But I had to leave on my journey back to the Tri-Valley, CA. I took my pie and started my drive to Missoula to fly back home. I carried my pie carefully back home and reheated it. I first tried the pie on its own. The first things I noticed were that it tastes different than regular huckleberry products--specifically the pie having a deeper richness which I greatly enjoyed, and it also tasted distinctly different than the cheap huckleberry infused foods I had previously eaten: it made me wonder if they actually taste more like plums. Second, I liked that it was not having tons of sugar and it let the flavor of the huckleberry shine. The crust was also nice in its crisp yet still a little chew texture. The second time I ate it. I bought some 365 by Whole Foods Market, Vanilla Ice Cream. (Normally get Van Leeuwen French Vanilla Ice Cream, I might still get it. The Whole Foods one was the best eggless ice cream I could find.) I am not sure if the ice cream contrasted or complemented the pie, but whichever it is: it tasted great as a combo, and I'm certain French ice cream would taste even better with the pie. For a person who enjoys letting a fruit be the main feature and going out of the way to try any fruit no matter how difficult: this pie is for you. read more

One of only a few brunch places in downtown Whitefish. There was a 45 minute wait at 11am on a Friday during off season. It's nice to walk around downtown and check out the stores while you wait. Tables are spaced out way too far. They could likely get many more tables inside. Food is solid. The special of the day was Huckleberry French toast which was incredible. Instead of a huckleberry sauce on regular bread they actually baked special bread with huckleberries inside. Delicious but small. The eggs Benedict was fine. Pretty ordinary. But no complaints. Review We went to Loula's Cafe for breakfast on a Wednesday at around 0945 hours and immediately noticed the line was out the door. To me this is always a great sign of delicious food especially in a small town! We waited about 30 minutes and boy was it worth the wait! I enjoyed the ski bum and the sausage gravy was AMAZING! The bacon was crispy and the over medium eggs were cooked perfectly. My wife enjoyed the raspberry lemon French toast and it was to die for; kudos to the chef! The kids menu was perfect and our boys cleaned their plates! The ambience was amazing and I especially loved the local art on display on all of the walls and that it was for sale which always helps local artists. The service was speedy and I really appreciated them offering Coke Zero as an option on the soft drink menu! Overall the food service and decor were 10/10 and we will definitely be coming here every time we are in Whitefish! read more

Wow! What a great restaurant. We came here by recommendation from a local and it exceeded our expectations. I ordered the ruben on gluten free bread, delicious! My partner ordered the burger with their wavy fries & a local beer. I had the famous huckleberry lemonade. They are famous for their pies. Thrilled they offer gluten free desserts too. Most of the desserts were sold out but closing time. Service was great! Everyone was kind to offer assistance. Our server was super cool & hip, funny and helpful. I wanted to give 0 stars but had to put a star down to submit this review. This place has the worst customer service ever. I checked into the cafe at 1022am and she told me it was going to be about 30 minutes. I received a text later that my estimated time for seating is 1122am to 1142am. I confirmed that I still wanted to be on the waitlist. At 1116am, I received a text message saying my table was ready and to return within 5 minutes. I got to the check in at 1122am exactly when she told me that she texted me over 30 minutes ago and that they held my seat for 10 minutes but took me off the waitlist. She told me that I had to sign up again at the back of the line which would be an hour and 45 minute wait. I asked to talk to the manager and she said "there is no manager available to talk to." I left in anger but went back to ask her to show me the text time stamp. She had texted me either at 1105 or 1107 but it was not 30 minutes from when she texted. If she gave up my seats at 1115 like she told me she waited, then I came just 7 minutes after. So I asked her if I can have the managers name and phone number and she said because that's personal information, she cannot give it out. I said I understood that phone numbers can be but asked her why she couldn't tell me the manager's name so that I can call and ask for them. She then told me that she can talk to the manager on my behalf when the crowd checking in dissipates. When the crowd was gone, she started cleaning the tables and setting tables while I stood there watching her. Then finally she went to talk to the manager. According to the manager, everyone gets the same amount of time to come back. If they waited for the party to show up, the waitlist would even be longer. Then I explained my situation, and I told her that the waitress told me I had to sign up at the back of the line. She told me that there are a lot of people in town and my cell phone carrier is the issue since I didn't get the text and I am the only one that had issue getting texts. I told her that if they knew that there was spotty service, they should either tell us not to go far and stay around the restaurant or tell us from the beginning that we only had 5 minutes to come back. The manager told me that when we sign up, we are told that there are 7 minutes to come back. Well that's a lie according to my text. She told me she can seat me at the next bar opening but I had no desire eating here. I thought that they were just so unreasonable. This restaurant had great reviews and I love brunch so I drove 30 minutes to town and waited an hour but I know for sure I will never wait for this restaurants again because I will never come back. read more

Loula's was ranked high on TripAdvisor, so we went for lunch one day. The wait was over an hour, so we went elsewhere. The next time we were in Whitefish, we headed directly to Loula's for breakfast. The wait was 20 minutes, but they had a small waiting area with chairs, so we could people-watch and the time passed quickly. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and we left with an excellent whole huckleberry-cherry pie for later consumption. The restaurant is downstairs - I don't know if an elevator is an option, but I didn't see one. We'll head there again for lunch or dinner when we are in the area, but will try to get on the website waitlist before going. read more
