The most perfect hash browns I have ever had, expertly and lightly crisped. I had the avocado, cheddar, and egg burrito, though as a scramble without the tortilla, and it was also perfectly cooked with generous cheese and avocado. Huckleberries were a tasty addition to my husband's pancakes, for a little extra charge. Service was very attentive and very fast. It's a small place with log cabin ambience but clean and cozy. Friendly breakfast place that is always packed....in a gas station :) Our waitress was super sweet and the place was full. Just a couple other people cooking and helping, but they did great! Had a wonderful breakfast at Carolyn's Cafe! It's a quaint little place with breakfast dishes being pumped out faster than the gas station pumping oil next door. Everything everyone had was delicious, fresh, made fast with perfect delivery. The staff was super friendly and they certainly were working hard to keep everything going smoothly and keeping customers happy. A bonus sixth star for our server recognizing our wobbly table and fixing it instantly! This visit makes it super easy to recommend Carolyn's to any local or traveler like ourselves. On our trip to Montana, we decided on this place for brunch. Boy was it busy! Upon walking in, we were told it would be a 30 minute wait. The restaurant was small but cute and adorned with huckleberry jams, goodies, t-shirts, and other souvenirs. We didn't know what to expect as unfortunately, there was only one waitress manning the whole front. I felt really bad and chaotic for her because not only was she ringing up to-go orders, being a hostess, seating customers, taking orders, ringing up payments, bringing food out to tables, getting drinks but also cleaning the tables. However, she managed to do it all, which impressed all of us. Her service was outstanding as she was very kind and sweet. I'm knocking off one star because I feel that restaurant should definitely hire some help in the front. I do like that the waiting time was accurate and we got to our tables in 30 minutes! The food was outstanding! We got the following items: Combination B: came with pancakes, eggs, choice of sausage links, patty, or bacon. My husband got bacon and also one huckleberry pancake and one regular pancake. You can do a huckleberry pancake for a $2 upcharge. Boy were the portions huge! The pancakes themselves took up the entire plate! We were very pleased and the taste was phenomenal! The addition of the huckleberries to the pancake elevated the flavor as it gave the pancake this slightly tart/sweet taste of fresh berries. The eggs were cooked perfectly and fresh and bacon was fried to a crispy, salty perfection. We would rate this a 9/10. Half deluxe order of biscuits and gravy (one biscuit) with hashbrowns and one egg: It was by far one of the best biscuits and gravy that I've ever eaten. The gravy was seasoned perfectly and I love the chunks of meat in it! The biscuits were fluffy, buttery, and divine as well. The hashbrowns were crisped to perfection and my sunny side up egg was deliciously runny. I finished the whole plate and then some of my husband's huckleberry pancake. I would give this dish a 10/10. My sister and her husband had the steak and eggs with toast. I took a bite of the steak and it was so tender and juicy. I would give the steak a 9.5/10. Please come try this place! It does get busy so be prepared to wait a little bit. We didn't get our drinks for a while but the food makes up for it. The food came out pretty fast, I would say in about 15 minutes or less (at least for us). The drinks actually came out after our food but it's fine! I just wish they would hire another waitress to help out! Our poor waitress was doing everything she could to make sure things were running along. First of all, the friendliest greeting in all of Montana with the most genuine smile we've seen in awhile! It was a refreshing change from so many of the other restaurants and establishments we've been in. We've found Montana isn't super guest friendly, they like to keep their secrets to themselves!! Carolyn's should be one of those secrets, it's a true tiny gem in the tiny town of Hungry Horse Montana. As the sign suggests, strap on the feed bag cuz you're gonna get fed! It was a Wednesday morning, it was 7:02am, TWO minutes after it opened, and the restaurant was already 60% filled with construction workers. I don't know if they make it a habit. There was only one server and one cook, so it took quite a while for my husband and I to get our food. It took about 40 minutes from the time we sat down, because most the construction workers were doubling up on their breakfasts with two orders each- poor cook and server! I noticed several of them ordered the French toast, so it is probably very good here. I ordered the vegetable omelette (the vegetables were nicely grilled before they were wrapped in the omelette) and a single huckleberry pancake. I was very satisfied with my food. There were also huckleberry hand pies that morning, which was good if a bit cool and not warm. Like somebody said in their previous review, there is a fan blowing cold air, and I was stuck in front of it, because the construction workers took all the good seats away from the fan. I really wonder why the one cook/one server set up, and that's why I rated 4 stars instead of 5, because the service was slow. By the time all the construction workers left, the restaurant filled back up with customers that were waiting, so it looks like this restaurant is popular and does get filled up (and still only has one server/cook?). read more

Connected to a gas station is a quaint cafe called Carolyn's Cafe! We stepped inside to and was surrounded by huckleberry merchandise! The server told us to choose whichever table we wanted. She was friendly and service was prompt. The huckleberry pancakes were huge and fluffy, and the huckleberry muffin was a table favorite. Right across the street from Great Bear Cafe is another GREAT spot for breakfast/lunch, Carolyn's Cafe. Bacon? Crispy. French toast? Fluffy. Carrot cake??? Moist, delicious, and full of carrots and coconut. Friendly service, too. This is one of those great hole-in-the-wall places. Really fast service and really big portions but I don't eat pork as I'm highly allergic to it and will end up in the hospital and I told the waitress this before I ordered a chicken fried steak that she brought to me with gravy on it and pieces of pork sausage. I was just about to bite into it when I saw the chunks of something inside the gravy. I asked her and she said oh yea that's sausage in the gravy. I reminded her that I had told her I was allergic to pork and she said oh yea. ??? She offered to have the kitchen make me another chicken fried steak but then came back to my table and said they use the same grill to cook their pork on it, which I declined. I also got huckleberry pancakes which were just okay. Really fluffy but nothing special . The cinnamon roll I got was also dry and microwaved and didn't have icing on it like some of their other pictures had shown and the huckleberry muffin I got was just okay . The server ended up being really nice and offered me fruit to make up for me almost eating the sausage in the gravy but the whole experience was kind of annoying because I had told her how allergic I was to pork in the beginning while ordering my food and she assured me that my chicken fried steak order was fine. This was a very pleasant and unexpected surprise. It has a diner feel and the table seating space is small. I was hungry after a few hours in GNP and stopped for lunch. The service by the two young ladies was great (friendly and efficient) and the food was delicious. I had a patty melt with clam chowder soup and huckleberry pie. I returned the next day for breakfast and had the same great service and delicious food. I had a side of scrambled with a half order of homemade biscuits and sausage gravy. Stopped here (the first time:)) at 1pm on a Thursday as a last open restaurant option before we hit Glacier National Park. We sat outside and were given menus and water soon after. The menu had a variety of appetizing options but we went with the Roadhouse Chicken, Patty Malt and French Dip. I didn't get an opportunity to take photos as we wolfed it down immediately it was so tasty. The waitress (Begum) was awesome! Friendly and quick to bring out anything we needed, she suggested the carrot cake which we took her up on, it was absolutely amazing! The waitress also mentioned the huckleberry French toast and we returned another morning at 730am and had to try the French Toast, Chicken Fried Steak , biscuits and gravy and Huckleberry pancakes. All were home cooked and delicious. Highly recommend this as a stop while in GNP area. Be patient as you may have to wait for seating due to the popularity but well worth it. read more
