After getting a really terrible haircut and color, the next morning I researched salons and looked at what felt like a 1000 pictures. It was obvious that Bellagio Salon could handle a serious color correction. I called and said, "I need help, I'm desperate--something horrible has happened to my hair." She said, "I'll squeeze you in." I arrived at a very inviting salon across from the Newport Beach Harbor--such an amazing location. I really didn't have to say much about what I wanted done--it was obvious. Blend the thick white stripes on top of my head and add highlights to the bottom where there were none. Use a toner to warm the strange ashy stripes. Under the stripes was a very strange dark color. Nothing about this hair color made any sense. It was shockingly bad. Mind you, I had a perfect canvas for the first hairstylist. My hair was very long and hadn't been colored in years. It's naturally a lighter brown and gets natural highlights. What I asked for from the stylist who messed up my hair: blunt layers, especially around the crown since it's heavy and weighs down my flat thin hair. What I got: about 7 inches cut (that was fine), but I still had long heavy hair on top. The layers were all on the bottom few inches of my hair! It made zero sense. It was uneven and had these little flippy pieces in the very front. Mahi said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to let you leave with wings." hahaha! I love her. I cannot believe Mahi was able to create a good haircut with the little hair I had left. My hair is at my shoulders now, and it has a style that actually makes sense. She cut the long pieces around my crown so now my hair has body and movement. The white stripes are blended and no longer look so ashy and grey. Mahi took so much time and care with me--it was very meaningful. She also used a lot of her products on me and was very generous. I'm also shocked that my hair is not fried having my hair colored two days on a row. I'm so grateful Mahi uses quality products at her salon. My hair is now soft! A lot softer when I left her salon compared to the day before when I left that other salon. I'm so grateful. Thank you for helping me, thank you for making me feel so safe in your chair. This might not matter to everyone reading this, but for neurodivergent peeps (and anyone with sensory preferences), I would just say be a little cautious. I've been coming here for about six-ish years, and overall they are fantastic at what they do. Everyone is skilled, and their work in both cuts and color is genuinely good. For my recent appointment, I wanted to go shorter, but keep the front longer because I have sensory issues. I know that if the front pieces are too short, it bothers me a lot. I brought inspo photos to show exactly what I was aiming for--something a little more unconventional, short in the back but still longer in the front so I wouldn't have to style it. During the appointment, my stylist suggested not going too long in the front so it wouldn't feel unbalanced, which I understood. I said that was fine, as long as it was still long enough. But in the end, I was given a pretty traditional, trendy bob. The issue is that my hair naturally curves inward, so now it cups into my face, which is exactly what I was trying to avoid. I also don't style my hair (my stylist knows this--I've been going here for years), so this cut now requires styling for it to sit comfortably, which just doesn't work for me. This haircut was also for my graduation, so it was a really important moment for me, and that added to the disappointment. I do want to say that they refunded me, which I really appreciate--they handled that part well. But I'm still left with a haircut that causes a lot of sensory discomfort, and my only options are to cut it shorter or wait it out. For most people, this might not feel like a big deal. But for someone who is neurodivergent, small things like how hair sits on your face can be overwhelming and affect your day-to-day comfort. If you're looking for something more traditional or trendy, they do great work. But if you're looking for something more unconventional or very specific to your personal needs, just make sure you really advocate for yourself and feel fully aligned before committing.
