We had the most fantastic lunch at The Hulman. The Cesar salad was perfection. The dressing was fresh, tangy, and so delicious. Topping off the salad with toasted Panko breadcrumbs is genius! So much better than croutons! The fries were hot, crispy, and covered with just enough sea salt. The best fries I've had recently dining out. The short rib melt had tons of flavor. The bread was perfectly toasted. The short rib was topped with Gruyère cheese and horseradish cream. So delicious. Oh, and the cocktails were SO delicious!! I went here when it first opened and would say at that point in time it would be 5 stars. I remember getting the Brussels and burrata which was incredible. Went back here yesterday and things were off. The service was super slow, and then they accidentally gave my friend the wrong size salad (but brought the bigger one when she brought it up). They said we couldn't order any of the signature cocktails (?) so my friend ordered a spicy margarita which had no spice, just watered down tequila. I got the burger and fries, the fries were good, burger was overcooked but otherwise ok. My other friend said that the meatballs were dry. They told us there were only two people in the kitchen that day so maybe it was just a one off. I really want to like this spot due to the trendy vibes and location. read more

This restaurant still owes us $110. My girlfriend and I stopped here on a road trip, on the first night of a 10 day vacation. We had an Opentable gift card that my gf spent 10 years accumulating points for. The Hulman was offering an additional $10 incentive which is part of why we made the reservation here. We racked up a large bill, handed over the gift card, which is a regular MasterCard, just printed out on paper. The server and manager spent about 20 minutes trying to figure it out, ended up redeeming it in full, and insisting it didn't go through. We were forced to pay the entire bill. That evening and the following morning, I spent over an hour on the phone and in the chat with Opentable and MasterCard, and they both confirmed that the card was redeemed by the restaurant. I've called repeatedly and they mostly don't answer, but I was able to leave a message with a manager and was supposed to receive a callback from the person in charge of their Opentable program. That was 4 days ago. No call and we still have not received our refund. We posted the entire story on Opentable and the manager simply responded that they "had an internal review and trained their staff." But still no call or refund! What a crappy way to start a vacation. We now have to contest this charge on our credit card and it cost us a lot of time and aggravation in addition. read more

Restaurant on site says 10 pm close time, but it's actually 9 pm which was fine. The hotel told us 8:30 was the latest delivery time. Called before the delivery time, they answered, and hung up. I called from my cell phone instead of the room phone, they answered, and said the kitchen is closed. I am fine with the closing time, but stick to your times when you are a hotel, and have folks from out of town wanting room service. Good thing is there are plenty of hotels in the downtown area that we will try out next time. This is for the restaurant only. I had to ponder this one a bit. I waivered back and forth between 3 and 4 stars. Overall, the restaurant itself is gorgeous, great details and the bar is lovely. We found metered parking on the street nearby and stopped in for lunch around 1pm. I have to say, the place was virtually empty. I hope this isn't typical. Our service was solid, my espresso martini however, was not. I would guess it was mostly Kahlua and didn't really have much coffee flavor at all. The Mediterranean salad was large, colorful, and very tasty. It had a great mix of fresh ingredients and the added grilled chicken was really moist. We came here on Valentine's Day and I'm a smidge behind on leaving a review (haha). We loved it! The restaurant is beautiful and our waiter was very friendly. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because we didn't realize Valentine's Day was a pre-determined menu. I honestly didn't see that anywhere when making the reservation for Valentine's Day, so I wish it was more publicized or obvious. Secondly, halfway through our meal I got a call/voicemail from the restaurant saying since I was a no-show for my reservation, I may be charged (while we were there eating lol). I visited the Hulman for my birthday with a very large party of 26 people. It was so easy to make the reservation and they were very accommodating to our large party. Our group was sat in the front at different tables, but I prefer that seating arrangement over one large table, it makes it easier to chat. I tried a couple menu items and cocktails but since I was mostly socializing I didn't eat much. I will be back to actually enjoy the food. The restaurant is very trendy, modern and cute. I would also suggest going upstairs after dinner for cocktails and a beautiful view. read more

Some of the reasons we chose The Hulman for our Valentine's dinner: 1) it's a newer restaurant and we like to try new places, 2) we hadn't been out to dinner in a while due to COVID and bad weather, so we wanted someplace a little more upscale, and 3) I had a $25 OpenTable rewards card to use specifically for The Hulman. While the atmosphere is posh and beautiful, there wasn't much else to give praise to. The staff was very friendly, but table service was spotty. Our server disappeared for about 25 minutes, and other servers delivering food seemed confused. We witnessed a couple of tables getting the wrong orders, servers walking about with plates of food like they were lost, and one server yelling at another to come back to a table to deliver food. Cocktails are severely overpriced for the amount that's served. Our appetizers tasted good, but they were cold. The autumn squash mezzaluna that I ordered was chewy and tough. When we finally got our check (after waiting on our absent server for a while), I presented my OpenTable rewards card. Our server wasn't familiar with it, so he went to ask the manager how to redeem it. When he came back, we were told the manager "doesn't know anything about those." OK, so how is that our problem? The manager did not come to our table to even look at the card on my phone, nor did anyone do anything to help resolve the issue. So we left with our bill $25 higher than expected. Not the end of the world, but very disappointing since we go out less frequently now. I hope this place gets their issues ironed out, but it just seems like another average restaurant trying to be more than it is. read more

The Hulman is a new spot in downtown Indy, located inside of Hotel Indy. Named after Indy Motor Speedway owner, Anton Hulman, there are several nods to his legacy in the decor. The bar is in the shape of the track, the checkered flag flooring, and pictures of scenes from IMS are all great touches to carry the theme through. They have a breakfast, lunch, and dinner menu, with a special brunch menu on the weekends. We stopped by for brunch. I ordered the crawfish Benedict. It came out like a crab cake, which I wasn't expecting, but still tasty nonetheless. I could definitely have used more of their potatoes, they were delicious. They have a full bar, huge cocktail and wine list, there's something for everybody. However I don't remember seeing a specific mimosa on the menu, so we ordered a bottle and some juice. They had only been open for two weeks when we stopped in, so there were some obvious kinks that still needed to be worked out. One being they were out of some things that we ordered. This still has the potential to be a great addition to the Indy food scene. read more

We decided to check this place out for my birthday and we will definitely be returning! It is right in front of the Julia M. Carson Transit center so there is a lot of activity but plenty of street parking around. The interior design is exquisite and you feel like you're in a swanky restaurant out of the Midwest. We went on a Wednesday so it wasn't packed and we're seated immediately. They have Indianapolis Speedway Themed cocktails, which we indulged in. I ordered the STP as I am a tequila drinker and it was delicious! For food we ordered the Wild Boar Empanadas, Shortrib Spacatelli and the Prime 10oz Flat Iron. I wandered in on opening night with my husband b/c they had valet parking. the staff was eager to please and we'll dressed. The decor was cool- mid 50's modern. The bartender was knowledgeable and upbeat. We had the charcuterie board, lobster bisque, citrus salad and for entree's, the flat iron steak and the salmon- each dish was flawless. They undoubtedly have a great chef. Really, great food! My only suggestion (since they are new) would be that they dim the lights for the dinner crowd- but that's an easy fix. Bravo! Came here with a group as part of Devour and it was just so-so and their service needs a bit of work for a restaurant at this price point. The service was slow and there were a few mistakes on our orders. They opened the wine prior to presenting it and it was the wrong wine so we got stuck with it. We were seated at a table in the bar and it was not the atmosphere/ambiance we were hoping for as the bar was very full. The servers were nice, apologetic, and were trying really hard. The salmon was OK, but the middle was a bit undercooked for my preference. The short rib pasta was a good size and was "fine" and the hubs would get it again. The laughing bird pasta was a big portion, but the shrimp were a little overcooked. The empanada appetizer was delicious! The grilled oysters were delicious as well and came out over burning cedar chips. The decor and vibe were great. If we come back here again, we'll probably just sit at the bar and have a more low-key night vs a dressed up date night. read more

This was an amazing food experience at the Hulman. The only thing that was a bit frustrating was the lack of waiters that night were we had to wait for a while until someone could get our names. However once I tried the food, it was worth the wait. The chicken itself was well marinated and the sauce was incredible. The meatballs were super juicy and had great flavors and spices and the salads was great on its own as well for appetizers. It was a very filling meal I had to take some leftovers for sure! The ambiance was also very nice and did not feel like a hotel at all, definitely recommend going through the hotel entrance connection to the restaurant since that was the spot we found useful to get our names and a table. read more

Visited The Hulman for the first time this evening for dinner with some friends. We had a few drinks which were phenomenal - I had the aperol spritz which was a large pour and tasteful. We ordered meatballs and Brussel sprouts for appetizers. The sprouts were amazing! Would go back just for that dish. I had the burger for dinner and it was decent. The fries were nice and crispy though! The service was slower and it is difficult to find parking at times but overall great experience and I will be back! Now the negatives... my lobster /crab bisque was brought to table in a metal pitcher-she poured over maybe an ounce of crab, and was barely warm. Very thin consistency too. My "plate of greens" was just that, lettuce (some pieces were decomposing-) pistachios, some feta, 3 slices of strawberries. That's it . Completely dry- no dressing of any sort. The short rib pasta was a bit too salty, as was the wild boar empanadas, and the halibut- which was also dry.The pea agnolotti was swimming in sauce - and bland. Steaks were done nicely, and the chicken- just not special in any way. So many great expectations and so much disappointing.. PS VERY LOUD. We have wanted to try this place a couple of different times, but things always came up, but now we know we were missing out! First of all, the location is very convenient for many downtown activities. There is street and garage parking all over, or if you take the bus/Redline it is directly across the street from the Transit center. You can see that the decor looks cool from the outside and it was very nice to sit and look around at the old photos. Part of the appeal of the place is all the old Indy memorabilia. We also wanted to try the rooftop bar, but we came on a wednesday and didn't know it was only open Thurs-Sat. Next time. We had the wild boar empanada to start, which was delicious! We also tried the brussels and burrata, not may favorite thing. I had the Hulman burger, very tasty, and my wife had the shortrib pasta, and that was the star of the show! After stopping by the Yelp event at Hotel Indy, I figured I would come again to try out the Hulman's menu. I ordered the Hulman burger and the Bokonon. The burger was juicy and the fries were crispy and flavorful. It definitely quenched my burger craving but the price was a little steep for what it was, a simple burger. I didn't love the Bokonon but I think that's more of a matter of personal taste. The rest of the menu looked great, I'll definitely be back to try the empanadas, steak and the STP cocktail. There was a concert nearby on the night I stopped by so there were quite a few people there, more than the average according to the servers. There is a lot wrong with this place. Went to spend a lovely evening surrounded by my colleagues and this staff and management turned this evening into a horrible experience. Some key notes: -Bottles of wine took over 40 minutes to come to the table, and drinks took even longer -Our server kept forgetting that one of my colleagues had a nut allergy and dairy intolerance, and was offering items that included those allergies -The bartender had the worst attitude I have ever experienced -Our bill was over $1,200.00 and we were not treated with any respect whatsoever and were met with many eye rolls and sighs and the staff not wanting us to be there -Gaby the manager was extremely rude, and did not seem to care about any of the frustrations we were bringing up to her Sadly, this was experience and the food was actually extremely good. My partner and I decided to try this place after hearing great things about it and I'm very glad we did. There's a parking garage right across the street as well so that was great. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a beautiful, modern restaurant. I love the decor and all of the different seating, and the bar is beautiful. All of the food had an amazing flavor but my favorite dish was definitely the shortrib spacatelli, which had delicious, crispy brussels sprouts and creamy ricotta. Terrible follow-up. I've dined here for the first time for Valentine. RSVP using OpenTable and paid upfront for the fixed (3/4 course) menu. We were charged after dinner and I assumed that the amount paid on OpenTable would be refunded. Surprisingly, there was no refund and I called several times, starting 2-3 days after that dinner in February until about August when I finally gave up. I spoke to several people and always got the response that "you should hear back from us in a few days". We even stopped by in person to talk to a Manager and got the exact response. There was never a follow-up email, phone call, or voicemail. They robbed us of our dinner and didn't even bother to make it right. I would love for the business to be successful since we're local downtowner, however, their "we-don't-give-a-$hit" attitude put a bad taste in my mouth and I won't be sorry if this business doesn't survive. read more

What a gem! One night put this place in our top 5 favorites in Indy. We shared several apps - tuna, empanadas, Moroccan meatballs, and burr are with Brussels. All different and delicious! We shared the spring pea agnolotti and it was wow. Fresh, light (even though I'm sure it was full of butter), and lemony. The earl gray crème brûlée was also unique and yum! Drinks were good and we enjoyed a beverage in the Cannonball Lounge afterwards. Only thing I would have liked to have seen was a few different options for wines by the glass. I started with oysters.Which were perfectly fine . Next the beet salad and Brussels which is the reason for the 3 stars . I order prime rib which came with a potato cream I received whipped cream with the steak was tough and unseasoned . The manger took off my bill because it was not eligible with the whip cream we also had the short rib pasta .It did not have any short rib and tasted like Store purchase Pasta Sauce . Wanted to check out the Cannonball Lounge on the rooftop but it was already at capacity at 8:30pm and the line to wait for the elevator up was very long. Opted to try The Hulman Restaurant for drinks and an appetizer. It was really loud but ok, it was Saturday night. We ordered the warmed olives as our appetizer and the "Millionaire" specialty drink. This drink was $14 and I took this picture after taking a small sip just to taste it. I couldn't believe the small amount in the glass. I noticed the same small serving size of other drinks being delivered to other tables as well. I don't mind paying $14 for a cocktail but this is ridiculous for what I got. read more
