I've been meaning to stop in since I live so close so today, while out walking my dog, I decided to stop in! It was so cute inside! I got an iced pumpkin spice chai latte (with a cute pink heart shaped straw!), a rosemary focaccia, and a chunky chocolate cookie! The woman working the counter was very sweet and didn't mind letting my dog hang around as we waited. So glad this place is open on Sundays now and that I finally stopped in! All I can say is go to the Humble Bee if you want a treat that will delight your senses and let you know that somebody loves you. You can taste the heart in each stunningly beautiful, and equally delicious, treat...and I've now tried more than a few. The macarons are pure art, the cinnamon bun is the perfect blend of sweet and gooey with yeast bread...oh my soul! My coffee was made to order and poured into a pink cup with the Humble Bee sleeve that just made me happy and didn't burn my fingers. I have been dying to try this bakery, because I am dairy-free. I heard they have amazing vegan cinnamon rolls. I went around 2pm on a Saturday and I was told they just put the cinnamon rolls in the oven and it would be ready in 15-20 minutes. I told her I would come back later. I went to my friend's place and didn't get back to the bakery until 4:30. The cinnamon rolls were all sold out and the cashier said she saved one for me, but she thought I wasn't coming back. That was really sweet of her and I didn't expect the cinnamon rolls to sell out that quick. Instead, I got a vegan pumpkin chocolate chip muffin, which was good. Ran across this little specialty bakery purely by chance on our way to nearby restaurant. Glad we did! Love the fact that they specialize in gluten-free products even though I don't require them. I also appreciate the fact that they use only natural ingredients. By the time we got there around 2:00, our choices were limited but we did select a chocolate chip cookie that was delicious and a devilish looking chocolate lava cupcake/muffin/brownie kinda thing that we warmed up and ate the next day. I'm always on the hunt for macarons, so when my girlfriend and I were in the area for lunch, we decided to take a trip to The Humble Bee Shoppe. First off, parking is a pain. We circled the block twice before someone pulled out of a parking spot. There is street parking and a small gravel lot on the corner, but both were full. And weirdly enough, the gravel lot had a sign that said "no parking," but I'm not sure what else the lot would be used for. The shop itself is cute. The storefront is pretty with hanging flowers and some sidewalk seating, though it's tight. The inside is simply decorated, with a small display of desserts ranging from macarons, cookies, brownies, and muffins. Don't expect to have a lot of options of anything. We ordered a box of macarons (10 for $30). None of the flavors were labeled but the young lady behind the counter was very friendly and went over all the flavors with us. I opted to get the box because the price point for a single macaron is higher than anywhere else I've gone. We tried every flavor- raspberry, strawberry, lemon, pistachio, honey lavender, cookie butter, hot fudge sundae, salted caramel, and blueberry, and to be honest, I wasn't impressed. The only one I actually thought was good was the lemon. My girlfriend liked the cookie butter as well. All of the others lacked flavor. The blueberry didn't taste like anything at all. I also noticed when we opened the box that one macaron was noticeably smaller than the rest. It was barely the size of a quarter. Overall, I was disappointed in the experience. For the cost of that box, I expected something much better. I'm somewhat of a macaron connoisseur and always seek out macarons in every place I travel to. I've had amazing macarons in Charlotte, Atlanta, Raleigh, and Asheville. But the Triad is a total flop when it comes to macarons and The Humble Bee didn't change that. I guess I'll have to keep looking...or traveling. read more

I love this bakery so much that I booked a separate flight from a work conference in TN to GSO before my final destination in Jacksonville, FL so that I could take a taxi to Winston Salem directly to this shop. I went through TSA with a suitcase full of macarons, sammies, lush brownies, and meringues and I've never felt more like a celebrity in my life. Along the way home, I shared my suitcase full of macs with strangers and there wasn't one single person that wasn't in awe by how amazing they were. This isn't just a place you stumble upon. The Humblebee Shoppe is your destination. I still vividly remember the first day I went to the Humblebee Shoppe. I had never had a good macaron before, but kept hearing how I had to go see Brittany. The difference in such a small cookie opened my eyes to bougie pastries and my expectations have never been the same. Every time I see a macaron that is not from the Humblebee Shoppe, it saddens me. Since that first day, my family has celebrated every birthday for every family member with the Humblebee Shoppe. My children don't ask for Oreos. Oh, no. They need macs. They don't have grocery store birthday cakes. They have custom made tartlets in the shape of the first letter of their name, covered in edible gold and meringue kisses. And just when you think it couldn't get better, we celebrate with a custom charcuterie board because yes - macs and cheese are the combination you didn't know you needed. I guess if you don't want to be happy, you shouldn't come here. If you don't want to elevate your palette, definitely head to the day-old pastry section at Harris Teeter. If you think the pricing isn't in line with what she's offering, please seek therapy to work on finding yourself and determining your worth. I have had a bit of an addiction to macarons recently and my husband was kind enough to buy me a dozen for my birthday this past year. The Humble Bee is not cheap, but you are absolutely paying for the quality. These were without a doubt the best macarons I have ever had. One of the best locations for vegan treats that I have tried around the country. Everything has true distinct flavor and not just a "sweet" taste like a lot of places offer/charge an arm and a leg for. Hands down best oatmeal cookies I've ever had and I don't usually even like oatmeal cookies. Apple muffin was delicious. Vanilla cupcake was moist, but frosting had an interesting aftertaste. I don't usually like scones, but Humble Bee's was moist and I love that I could really taste the banana base in the blueberry banana scone which was bursting with fresh blueberries and a lovely hint of nutmeg. I'm seldom able to pop in since I now live out of state- but any chance I'm able to, I always stop in to see a friendly face and stock up on the most delicious, made from scratch, treats. Brittany, the owner, is one of the kindest souls I've ever had the pleasure of coming across in Downtown Winston-Salem. She specializes in vegan and gluten free treats that are guaranteed to knock your socks off! Some of my favorites are her beautiful and delectable macaron (no one can top them- I promise!), the cinimon roll, and the cheddar/jalapeño muffin with Texas Pete and honey glaze. My mouth is watering just thinking about all of them! I rate The Humble Bee as a bakery 10/10 but the service is absolutely A++. I just so happened to park in front of this bakery as I was visiting a nearby restaurant. As I got in my car to leave, I decided to stop in for a treat. The young lady, think she may have been the owner, was baking in the back and came up front. She was very warm and courteous, offering to explain each item to me since the window tags were not yet up. I'm unsure if maybe all the items had not been baked yet but there was a smaller selection than I anticipated. This was forgiven as soon as I took the first bite of my treat. I ordered a brownie, lust brownie? I don't remember the exact name but it was muffin shaped and she explained that she rehydrated cranberries and placed those into the brownie which she described as "decadent". Y'all it was! Good grief! I crave chocolate quite a bit but it's hard to find a rich, decadent, chocolate treat to truly satisfy that craving. This was it. Not very impressed! I'm not vegan but I called a several months ago and asked about her ability to make Irish car bomb cupcakes and was given the third degree. I was told that I should choose another bakery and when asked where she would suggest she replied with "I don't have time to look it up for you" I was a little hurt because I was planning to surprise my best friend with them.
