    Food Challenge!!
    Elizabeth E.

We had an amazing breakfast at The Hungry Monkey. I am so impressed by this delicious location and their amazing service. Not only was the food delicious but they also have an eating challenge. Over 500 people have attempted the challenge and as of now only 12 have completed it!! If you're a big eater and are looking for a challenge - you have to check this out. This is actually the reason we found out about this spot. A YouTuber came and posted a video online - he did conquer the challenge. We did not (we didn't even try). Anyways, the inside is cosy with cute diner vibes and they have a large and expansive menu. You definitely don't want to miss out on this spot. If you're in Newport I recommend driving to this location!! But definitely go out of your way to stop by.

I went here with some friends. It is cutely decorated with pictures of a sock monkey visiting many places. My son had a sock monkey that he always took around when he was little so that brought a fond memory. The seating is nice. We got a nice one by the window and the bench had nice pillows on it which I loved. I had the banana stuffed French toast that was delicious. I also got a hot chocolate since a cold day. The waitress was very nice and checked in with us. There is street parking on Broadway.

My friends and I stopped by here for Sunday brunch. The wait can be long so I suggest going early if you can. We each got the bottomless coffee and we all thought it was the worst finer coffee we've ever had. It tasted like brown water. Our waitress never asked to fill it up again but we wouldn't have wanted it anyway. I got the spicy monkey breakfast burrito with turkey bacon and it was ok. The home fries were the star of the show and perfectly spiced and salty.

First of all this place was basically just like a hole in the wall small little breakfast spot nothing big. The atmosphere was awesome fun environment. The service was great very attentive waitress, and you cannot leave without ordering the monkey bread. Hands-down best meal I had it was so yummy. I wish I would've ordered one to go.

Great breakfast spot. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a bagel with bacon egg and cheese. It was so good. Totally hit the spot. Parking on the street in front. Small diner vibe. One restroom in back. Good service.

We've eaten here before and we continue to perform our, "is it as good as it used to be" test. They pass with flying colors. The ambiance screams "local, casual" and it's such a good feeling. The ability to walk in and sit right down reminds me of why we love Newport in the winter. As cool as all of that is, the food continues to be the star. The pancakes are arguably the most flavorful I've had. The hash is excellent! The special was a Churro Stuffed French toast. Oh man! So rich. Staff is friendly as always!

I forgot to take a picture of the best thing on the menu which is the monkey bread to start off your breakfast. If you go it's an absolute must to share with on the table. We went on December 31st so it was a long wait and they made everyone stand outside. That wasn't my favorite thing on a chilly day and I would plan accordingly going back in the winter. The pancakes were good as was the bacon but the omelette wasn't anything special and definitely not worth the super long wait. This is a well known diner in Newport and the Monkey bread alone is worth the visit but be prepared for a wait on weekends.

So good!!!!!! Felt like home made food and everything tasted amazing. It was what we wanted and then tasted even better!

The food was delicious! I had the Greek omelet, turkey bacon, and the famous stuffed sweet French toast with bananas! Amazing! It's a must-have! The ambiance was family-oriented and nice, but the service could have been better!

I love this place. Usually, never a wait, depending on the time you get there. They can fill up and pick up quickly. Usually, anytime before 8, you're good. The service is great. Servers are friendly and always have a smile. Especially mariana. Have to say she does it all. I had her both times I was there. Quick , to get you ordered and situated. Running orders making coffee. Topping off your coffee when needed. She remembers her customers from what I see. So when I went to pay I told her it was my last day there. Told her I would be back in Oct. Thank you for the service. She was kind to inform me that there is a food festival that is coming up before my next visit. Which is great seeing as I love good. So now I have looked into that and will have to make an extra trip before October, which is not an issue, seeing as I love the food in that area.

An okay place to grab some brunch, especially if you don't want to wait a Corner Cafe amount of time! I got the Irish style eggs Benedict and blueberry stuffed French toast. The Benny was decent but the hollandaise wasn't as flavorful as others I've had and the poached eggs were a bit overcooked as the yolks weren't very runny. The blueberry stuffed French toast was just okay. The blueberries didn't have a great texture and just felt gummy and wrinkly.

Then in the middle of him eating his mail while we were waiting she just dropped the check and said no rush instead of just waiting for him to finish up. Lastly, we paid our bill and then the waitress said oh wait I forgot to add your drinks to the check. This was funny because she forgot our drink water, and I had to go up and order our drinks, but yet she did remember at the last second to add them on which was too funny. The food was nothing special, but overall satisfactory. What you really are paying for is the ambience and the view out to the ocean.

I am typing this review a couple of days after dining there and the prevailing, smile invoking, memory is of the staff. As noted above we have eaten here in the past. We have dined with large as well as small groups and have always been pleased. The place is beautiful, especially in the summer. The outdoor patio bar boasts a great view of Green End Pond. A great place to grab a drink and an appetizer. We started out on the patio and returned later for dinner. Based on our sub par experience the night before (see prior review) I was committed to having a great meal. We were not disappointed. I started with the clam chowder. Delicious. Flavorful and loaded with clams. My wife opted for the lobster bisque In an effort to negate the lousy lobster bisque she had on the previous night. Mission accomplished. She described it as buttery and creamy. Essentially the perfect bisque flavor. Contained within the bisque was a tremendous chunk of delicious lobster meat . For dinner, I chose the baked stuffed shrimp. It was delicious. Cooked to perfection with delicious stuffing, rice, pilaf, and broccoli. My only complaint is that I believe there should be more than 4 shrimp at this price. My wife selected the Pasta Bolognese. A dish that she has had and several other restaurants in several states and she ranked this right at the top of the list. Plenty of beef and pork combined with a tasty Italian sauce. When in the Newport area I suggest you skip the over hyped restaurants and head to Johnny's for a delicious meal with great atmosphere.

We arrived a little early for our 4:00 p.m. reservation, and the place was already packed. While we waited by the bar, a very nice waitress took our drink order--a lemon drop martini, beautifully crafted, well-balanced, and pleasantly strong. We were seated shortly after and, of course, ordered another. (Both times, I took several sips before remembering to take a photo!) Our waitress, Mikela, was truly lovely--sincere, sweet, and very courteous. She was attentive throughout the meal without ever being intrusive, which made the experience feel relaxed and effortless. At the end, I told her I wished I could give her 6 stars, but Yelp only allows 5. For dinner, we both ordered the seared rare ahi tuna steak. I had mine with garlic bread, while my husband chose mashed potatoes. I also added the $9.95 salad buffet, which is such a great deal--you definitely won't leave hungry. I especially love their buffet-style salad bar, which offers nearly every option one could want. Both of our ahi tuna steaks were fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Once again, I dug into my tuna before remembering to take a photo! We finished the meal with a cheesecake to share--another delicious ending to a wonderful dinner. We're already planning our next visit--there are still so many dishes and drinks we'd love to try.
