Completely unprofessional and terrible. Richard didn't show up and sent his snow cone lady instead to our daughter's wedding. She called the night before saying that Richard had another gig in Vegas and that she would be taking over our event. She said she couldn't find dishes and flatware and wanted to use paper and plastic instead. She was supposed to show up to cater our wedding at 3 pm and didn't show until 5 pm. During the ceremony all I could think about was how I was going to feed 90 people-- our bartenders were ready to rush to go pick up pizza and inandout burgers. The snow cone lady showed up eventually in her actual snow cone trailer with cold food-- dinner service was at 6 pm! The salmon tasted like it was old (and smelly) and I had two guests tell me the chicken was "floppy". Meanwhile, my daughter's bridesmaids set out to find flatware and dishes (scouring thrift stores etc) so that we wouldn't have to use plastic and paper. Instead of hanging out and getting ready we were scrambling for shit ON THE DAY OF THE F'ING WEDDING! The first thing the snowcone lady said to me was "I found the dishes and flatware!" but she never bothered to call me-- she claims she texted me but that was a total lie. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. I have been trying to get in touch with Richard and he has ignored me for 3 weeks but of course cashed our check. When I threatened (this) terrible review he got right back to me and said that he has had health problems. For God's sake Richard. Absolutely appalling. DO NOT BOOK FOR CATERING EVENTS *UNRELIABLE* NOT THE SAME QUALITY AS FOOD TRUCK. Not only did Richard not show up the day of the wedding without communication, but his replacement was a disaster! Imagine an ice cold piece of mediocre salmon smothered in cheap BBQ sauce. Is that supposed to be barbecued salmon? I literally had people with full plates of food begging for my corn bread since their dinner was inedible. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that when you sign a contract with a business, that business would be the one expected to preform those services? Instead Richard went to Vegas for another event. We got a call the day of the wedding by the lady taking over who said that the catering company couldn't obtain the plates needed for the event, so as bridesmaids we were busy running around town looking for plates when we should have been enjoying the day with the bride. The replacement catering service showed up 2 hours late, so the poor brides mother was worried about feeding everyone the entire ceremony. Once we finally got the food, it was ice cold fresh from serving. I have worked many catering events both as staff and as management of dessert and never have I ever seen a wedding with such a careless catering service. The brides nieces and nephews were crying and begging for a snow cone from the ugly truck parked right next to the food table (that had no snow cones) All in all the bitter taste in my mouth could have been transformed with basic business ethics and a simple apology to the bride, but instead he avoided phone calls then finally responded with some very unprofessional text messages to the mother of the bride. It is clear he has no intention of taking responsibility for his poor actions during such a special time in my best friends life. I would hate to see anyone else go through this stressful process for such a big (and expensive!!!) day. read more

I am the operations director for the event that took place on 6/20/21 that has been reviewed by others on this site, and I am the person who was in touch with Richard at The Hurricane Kitchen. Initially when this vendor came on board, I was warned by the first person I told that The Hurricane Kitchen was going to be our Sunday food truck vendor. The person warning me said they've experienced a no-show from them in the past. In the weeks leading up to the event, I had one conversation with Richard (which was positive), so I trusted that we were a GO for our event. The week of our event, I tried to contact Richard daily to check in. He finally called me back at around 8:00 pm on Saturday, the night before the event. Again, we had a positive conversation, and he agreed to be at the venue by 3:00 pm to set up prior to doors opening at 4:00. At 4:10 pm, I began contacting Richard to get an updated ETA since I had not heard anything and he was now over more than one hour late. I called and left two voicemails and sent three text messages requesting an update. I also reached out to another food truck vendor who put me in touch with Richard in the first place to see if he had heard anything, and he responded quickly, letting me know he had not heard from Richard either. I did not receive any communication from Richard until 4:30 pm when he told me he was with a mechanic. In the same message, he told me that he texted me and the other food truck vendor to let us know, and he apologized if it "didn't come through." When I asked if he was going to be there, he told me he would know something in the next 15 minutes. Then at 4:48 pm, he told me the mechanic said they are "dead until business tomorrow." It is understandable that mechanical issues may arise, however the consistent lack of communication is unacceptable for anyone doing this kind of business. I have my doubts about the entire situation, especially about the text Richard says he sent just didn't come through. Regardless, I would expect any business owner to pick up the phone and call me as soon as they are aware of ANY potential reason they would not be able to fulfill their commitment, then offer a way to make it right, neither of which Richard did. If you are looking for a reliable food truck vendor, I would encourage you to do your research and look elsewhere. read more

This truck surprised me. My company has different trucks come every day. I have found most to be overpriced and food quality just "ok". Hurricane Kitchen was way better than I expected. The choices are unique. Duck and Salmon on the top of the list. I ordered Duck Confit ($10). The line was pretty short. About 5 people had ordered before I got there. After ordering, it took under 10 min to get my food. Maybe closer to 5-6 minutes. Duck Confit over salad - The duck was very flavorful and fresh. Veggies were piled high with the mixed greens lettuce as opposed to head lettuce. Red, Yellow, Orange peppers, basil, cranberries, carrots... a large array. and portion size was nice. Service - The lady taking the order was friendly and quick. No troubles at all. They also take credit cards. Hope they come back soon! :) read more

From the communication before booking to the actual quality and taste of the food served, they deserve 5 stars all of the way. They helped us choose our menu and were clear and helpful in figuring out something that was within our budget. In developing a menu, they also had lots of choices to choose from. At the event they were efficient in serving guests, provided clear signage and most importantly everything tasted delicious. This food truck tweeted out they would be at Grand park in LA for lunch on wednesday. I checked their menu online and saw blackened catfish so I was sold. When I ordered at the truck I had an option of a side of either jalapeño slaw or a side salad. Since I love spicy stuff I ordered the slaw. It was pretty spicy and a lot better than normal slaw. We just recently had The Hurricane Kitchen cater our wedding and I can't compliment them enough. We received so great comments on the food, even from some of the older guests that were a little suspicious about going the non-traditional route with a food truck. We had the duck confit (which is amazing), crabcake burger, and portobello mushroom sandwich. We got extra compliments from those who got the portobello mushroom sandwich saying it was the best they've had. I agree, not being a huge fan usually, the one served was delicious. We also had passed appetizers and fruit and veggie trays. The mac and cheese was also a big hit. The staff was friendly, the lines moved super quick and overall it was an amazing night. First few times this truck came to our company it was great! I enjoy the pulled pork sandwich. Quality of meat was very good, very tasty, and cooked just right. However this time when I ordered the pull pork sandwich it wasn't the same. I might as well have had two buns with a pile a fat in between. All the meat was super fatty. The amount of fat to meat ratio was terrible. It was like chewing on greasy rubber. On top of that it had the distinct taste of fish which can only mean they cooked it in the same spot as the cooked the fish, or they were cooking the fish and pork at the same time using the same utensils and therefore mixing the favors. A couple of my colleagues had similar experiences today. I don't like to gamble with my lunch so I'm unsure if I'll order here again. Lunchtime is precious and to have spent money and not get to eat isn't a great thing. I will probably wait to see what others say before ordering next time. read more

I've lived in LA for 2 years...from NYC. I keep hearing about amazing food trucks. I've tried many and they're, as we say in NY, meh. I got the chance to try Hurricane while they were parked on our studio lot. Finally, I've found a really good food truck!!! Great flavor profiles and really good prices. I tried the sriracha chicken sandwich with the jalapeno slaw. Really nice. Spicy but wont burn too bad. I've found that most people out here on the west coast are kinda babies about spicy food and the food trucks reflect that. Hurricane isnt afraid of spicy! We hired The Hurricane Kitchen for our Christmas party this past weekend and they were AMAZING!! Fantastic food ... all, and I do mean 'all' of our guests loved the food. Every entree, every side dish made to perfection!! You can tell they really care about the food they are serving.
