Disappointing. Room was old, breakfast okay and by that, I mean not much offered. Thought it would be better.

The Inn at Wise has been around a LONG time. In the mid-1900's My grandfather used to walk to the courthouse to work every day. Afterwards he would frequently eat at the Inn and socialize on the front porch. Growing up, the Inn was THE destination to eat. In fact, my savage & wild youth was frequently left with a babysitter while my parents went to the Inn. Only if it was special and I was in a starched shirt would I get to go. So when I had a chance to come back to stay with family, we all headed to the Inn and enjoyed every minute of it. The Inn has had it's ups & downs since I left after High School. I'm really glad that it's weathered COVID and on it's way up again. It really is a beautiful old hotel. The staff is what actually puts life into the hotel and every person we interacted with up front was awesome. Regardless of time, need, or whatever - they were warm, personable and helpful. That alone made the trip. I booked three rooms. One for our kids, one for my mom and one for me. They were all great rooms, clean, met all the needs. The kids were in a room with two beds and fit three teenagers well. We had a king bed and the room was truly massive (225). My mom had another king and was big as well. The dining is shut down. I hope they open soon. We had a catered appetizers & drinks one evening and I could see the old ghost of the times we spent there. Once the bar downstairs and the restaurant opens again, this will once again be the place in the town of Wise to eat. Right now it's an awesome place to stay. read more

Cute B&B. The rooms were nice but you can hear everything happening outside the hall and in the rooms next to yours. I was very disappointed in the breakfast. I saw the kitchen grill area but the options were bread, yogurt, and heating up your own frozen burritos. I had expected more breakfast options. The building is cute and staff were nice. read more

Really liked this place even though it was only one night. The hotel service was excellent. The ladies up front helped find a local restaurant which was good. Everyone was nice and friendly. The price was excellent and the hotel and rooms were clean! We typically stay at brand chain hotels and this was way cleaner. They had a simple free breakfast. We would definitely stay again. I hope they get the bar and restaurant opened that would be a great addition. We hope to explore SW Va some more and revisit this hotel. read more

Cute place. Cute town. We were not too happy that in the middle of breakfast, a deafening fire alrm went off and scared my sister and I half to death. Turns out the management actually sceduled their fire sprinkler testing without letting the guests know!!! My nerves were shot. I suggested to the female clerk that they should schedule those tests between 11am to 3pm when the guests have checked out and before check-in. I feel it was very inconsiderate, not sure I would stay there again. read more

I was in charge of planning our annual Harley trip with three of my friends. We ride hard all day and like to stay at a fine hotel that has a bar and fine dining. When I came across The Inn in Wise, I thought this would fit the bill completely. Their website header states "Dine in southern style restaurants" The website goes on to say " Both the Corner Diner and The Pub and Tap Room are favorites of Wise VA residents" In addition, when you check in, they have a banner in the lobby that shows the restaurant with its fine linen tablecloths. Well once we checked in, I asked where the bar and restaurants noted in the website where, and I was informed that they were all "closed" When I asked when they closed, they said over a YEAR ago! They have continued to misrepresent their property by failing to change, or make a note on their website. I spoke with the manager, and the area manager for the Newport Hospitality Group that owns the Inn, and the gave us each $50 credit. They said they would change the website, but as I prepare this review, 10 days after our stay, the website still has not been changed. Its hard to understand how a reputable Hospitality group could continue to misrepresent their property. BUYER BEWARE read more

And we loved the historic photos throughout the hotel from the collection of the Wise County Historical Society. Stayed here on business. The worst staff ever (except for susan- housekeeping). The manager hung up the phone when asking when the WiFi, phones, and TV would work! So horrible! Don't let the pictures fool you. Air conditioning, coffee maker, toilets, tv, WiFi, phones didn't work. After unpacking, i had to change rooms because the toilet didn't work. They moved me to a smaller room with a bright light outside the window shining all night long. The air conditioner sat under the window and "blew" open the curtain making the room bright all night long due to the huge, bright, parking lot light outside. When I couldn't work due to no WiFi, Managment actually said, "there's nothing I can do about it, leave if you don't like it". Don't stay here! read more

We love staying at the Inn at Wise! We always request Henry's Room at the top of the inn. The interior is beautiful and very classy looking. We always hit up the pub downstairs when we stay. The rates great compared to any other locations out there. I will always choose the Inn at Wise. read more

Our first night was amazing. The room was beautiful, spacious, and equipped with every amenity you could need & then some. The bed felt like a cloud. We dined at The Pub and Taproom in the courtyard area. The serenity of our first night's stay paled in comparison to the second. Room service could not be reached by phone. There was raucous laughter and blaring oldies from a Class of 67 reunion occurring that night. The noise in our room was so overpowering that we could actually identify the songs. My advice? Find out if an event is booked during your planned stay. read more

The food is good but the service is atrocious and very slow. We had to stop going for lunch because it always took us an hour and a half to get out of there. They have gone through several managers with no improvement. They never seem to have enough staff. The location is very nice and the food is good so if they could improve the service it would be 5 stars. read more

I've tried to have lunch there twice since this restaurant opened. The first time was at 1:00 pm, and I was given a breakfast menu. A 6 page breakfast menu. My husband and I left and were told they would be serving lunch a few weeks later. So we waited. Went by today around 1:00 pm and was told now they only serve lunch on the weekend. The Inn itself has been beautifully renovated. Our room was about a 3.5 star quality room, though service itself was a little less. They are still working out some kinks. The rooms in the old section have windows above the doors that let in too much light at night. The rooms themselves are spacious, with comfortable beds, microwave, coffee maker, and mini fridge. Nice bathrooms too. There is also a lovely veranda. Free parking for guests. The single, slow elevator is kind of annoying. The front desk staff seemed to oddly disappear from time to time, with no way to page them. read more

Very attractive building renovation. Beware though - service needs significant improvement to meet standard that they seem to be aiming at. We checked in a bit late and were told that the restaurant was closed, but the on-site pub was still open and we could get a bite for our kids and ourselves if we hurried down. When we arrived at the pub we were told by the server there that it was closed - about 20 minutes ahead of the scheduled closing time. I pointed that out to her and she then did call the kitchen to check to see if we could get something. She told me that in fact the kitchen had been closed and cleaned up for the night already, so the chef was not willing to prepare anything for us. Frustrating to learn that they do not seem to care to support the scheduled hours for the on-site food service. read more

Super cute and quaint hotel. Nicely decorated room and very clean. Nicest place to stay in Wise. I have it 3 stars because the room temperature was difficult to control, when I walked in it was hot and muggy and within an hour I was freezing. The whole night was like this getting up to turn the thermostat on because I was hot, getting up to turn it off because I was freezing. But it was super dark and quiet and even with my thermostat issues I slept pretty good. Only other downfall is I was hungry and they didn't have any vending machines with snacks and there aren't any nearby places to go and grab a quick snack. Otherwise I thought the staff was very nice, the hotel was cute and clean. read more

This is a gem! I needed a place to stay while on business and this place was recommended by the locals. I travel extensively (nearly every week) and am accustomed to the Hilton's, Marriotts, etc. I was suspicious of the recommendation. I can happily report that I am pleasantly surprised by the look and feel, staff, cleanliness, safety and appointments. The Pub, located next door, wouldn't make it to the pages of Houzz, but the filet mignon with broccoli and asparagus was perfectly cooked! Gary, the waiter/bartender was fabulous. Ask him about his weight loss of 120 pounds. Additionally, I took a call outside and before I realized, I was rocking in one of the white rocking chairs scattered on the columned porch. So pleasant. This is a very nice departure from the standard hotel fare. I highly recommend The Inn at Wise. read more

What a charming boutique hotel with 100 years of history. They did an excellent job blending the old Inn with the addition of new rooms. The rooms are comfortable with coffee maker, refrigerator, etc. What a nice staff they have too, everyone was so pleasant. Breakfast buffet is good with eggs bacon biscuits and gravy " Appalachia" they did have beagles you can toast and put on cream cheese if you like that. Let's see - a historic inn with character and the most accommodating staff I have encountered (in the U.S.A. anyway), at the same price as a national chain (with none of the charm or amenities)? Which would you pick? My daughter and I drove down to evaluate the University of Virginia College at Wise, and the Inn and the locals sold her on UVA-Wise as much as the college itself. I pulled into downtown Wise and quickly concluded littering must be a hanging offense as the downtown area was that clean. We checked in, went to our room (which was spotless and contained everything any chain is going to provide). The staff were the most helpful and friendly I've encountered in years. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, and only had sandwiches, but they were prepared with care and wonderfully presented. The restaurant staff were very attentive. I noted some concerns about the HVAC in other reviews, but we did not encounter any issues whatsoever in that area. Everything in our room was in good repair. The Inn at Wise has all a business traveler could want as well. Several meeting rooms, a business center, good internet connectivity. The Inn at Wise must be on someone's "great places to work" list, as I saw 3 applicants for one open position myself just on my trips through the main office (I'd be interested to know how many in total applied). The management must indeed have a high standard for its staff, and reward their employees quite well. Since the Inn, the townsfolk, and the UVA College at Wise so impressed my daughter, she submitted her application and this will be the first of many stays at the Inn for her dad while she completes her degree. read more

Absolutely delicious food, friendly service, and more food than you can at on the Buffett. I tried a little bit of it all, Cornish Hen, wine marinated beef tips and ham. The beef tips were out of this world!! The desserts were plentiful and ranged from fruit salad, two different kinds of cheese cake, and my favorite a chocolate cake with Carmel oh my God worth every pound it put on. Beautiful setting, bathrooms with fancy hand towels to dry your hands. Even a nice little note wishing my wife and mother in law Happy Mother's Day. After many years of just sitting and slowly deteriorating The Inn at Wise has finally been restored and is open for business. We recently visited the smaller diner part of the Inn for a sandwich and were sorely disappointed. There are two sections to this, the main dinning room which is upper casual dress and the smaller section which is walkin. The food was average at best and high priced for this area (which was expected). The service however was horrible for the expectations we had. Our orders were wrong, and there were four waitresses standing around talking while we had to flag down a waitress that was not our own for refills on drinks. The one we flagged was very helpful and nice but for a diner of this price and stature the poor service was inexcusable. The poor service coupled with mediocre food was a shame, I only hope that this was just a fluke in getting started and they smooth everything out soon. Our area needs a nice business like this should be and hopefully it will be able to open the door for many more. Sadly at this time I cannot give it a higher recommendation. read more

It took me forever to figure out the thermostat, and I'm still not sure I could do it again aside from pushing every button on the remote (and I'm a millennial!) I gave it 3 stars because of the thermostat, limited food choices at the pub and diner (which serve he same food) and because the receptionist was rarely there! My husband and I stayed the weekend at The Inn at Wise when our friend was getting married. The Inn is very nice. We stayed in the more modern section of the building, while our friends that we were traveling with stayed in the more historic part. Our room was quite comfortable and clean, large enough and well laid out enough to invite our friends to come visit with us in the evenings. Our friends room in the historic section was a little oddly shaped, but as you could tell it was remodeled to fit the new use of the building it was understandable. Our air conditioner worked very well in our room and wasn't too noisy, and the refrigerator worked nicely and quietly as well. It was very nice to have an exhaust fan in the bathroom, something that is all too often overlooked in chain hotels. The bed was comfortable and clean, and the large bathroom and shower were wonderful to have. We really liked having fast wi-fi included, and were very appreciative of the fact that there were routers scattered throughout the building, making sure everyone got good signal. We also really enjoyed having the attached garage in which we could park and easily enter the building. The front desk manager was very pleasant and helpful both when we checked in and checked out. We only had one issue with our stay (bass from the church group warming up in the ballroom Sunday morning was loud enough to shake our floor and walls) but when I mentioned it to the manager he quickly and pleasantly addressed the problem. Even the cleaning staff were very friendly and made a point of smiling and saying hello each time we saw them. (What a pleasant surprise!) While staying at The Inn we ate at the Pub and Tap Room twice and it was very good food, atmosphere, service, and drink selection. We gladly would return should we ever be in the area again. We also ate at The Diner Sunday morning before we checked out and while I certainly enjoyed the amount of vegetables in my veggie omelet, the rest of the food was mediocre. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, but everything else was surprisingly lack luster after our previous experiences at the Pub and Tap Room. Overall I would stay at The Inn at Wise again, and would recommend it to anyone staying in the area. read more

The rooms are a little in the small side but very nice. The beds are mostly springs and the sheets are a polyester blend. You're better off with two queens than a king and a pull out sofa the sofa it's self was more comfortable than the mattress it had on it. The wifi is spotty at best and un reliable ask the front desk for an Ethernet cable if you have anything important to do. The walls at the hotel are very thin and you can hear conversations in the hallway from the other side of the room. The bathroom is good size some rooms have tubs and some do not our walk in shower was large but had terrible water pressure our towels were soft but left lint all over us and everything in the bathroom. The value is decent for what you get but overall the hotel could use improvement in the luxury department. read more

Stayed here on our way from SC to KY. It felt like a special treat to stay in this beautiful, historic hotel filled with character. Our room (and the entire hotel for that matter) had original art work on the walls. The room was nicely appointed and the bathroom was so nice, I'm getting ideas on how to renovate our own at home. I highly recommend this hotel if you enjoy places with character, beds and breakfasts, and a resting spot nestled in the middle of Main Street in a small town. I was excited about staying here when I had to visit the area for work. My room was small but nice. It was comfy and cozy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There's not always someone at the counter when you may need them, but they usually aren't too far or gone too long from the area. It appears they have one person working during the day and one in the evening to handle check-ins, emergency and non-emergency situations in rooms. This can be an inconvenience at times. Overall, I enjoyed staying here and the dining options. I was informed that I was staying in a room with a little girl named Annie who died when the place was burned down. I was told Annie liked jumping on the bed. That was a pretty interesting story. While I wasn't scared of Annie, I definitely did have dreams of her my second night in the hotel.
