I always thought Piecemakers was for quilting classes and knitting, even baking classes plus quality tools. But I recently needed a real clean outside the house. The weeds were just out of control and the regular gardener didn't want to deal with it. A friend recommended them also for their connected company, PIECEMAKERS CONSTRUCTION! They do all kinds of jobs. First Dougcame out and inspected the property and then they gave me a bid. And we agreed. They arrived exactly 10 minutes before they were due in order for the crew of three men who spent five hours clearing the land flat!!! they took everything out the roots and all it was totally clean except for the two plants that I asked them to go around and it didn't even show that it was different! I am so impressed that I am going to ask them to help me with my porch revival this summer! Another landscaper came two years ago & Cut it down flat but didn't pull out the roots. Piecemakers cost me more than that fella did but the job they did was absolutely worth every single penny!!! Highly Recommend!!! read more

I visited this place last month in December. I was looking for some material and a seamstress to make a dress for me for an event I'm attending in January. I looked this store up on the internet while searching for a fabric store near me and they showed up in the search. On the website they post a bunch of arts and crafts classes they host including sewing classes, so I thought I'd check it out and find a seamstress there. Upon driving up, I saw that they have plenty of parking and the outside of the store looked very cozy and inviting. When I went in, the store was so pretty. It's definitely in country style and they decorated for Christmas. So cute! They have so many items to see and buy including fabric, crafts for jewelry, tea and accessories, cookbooks and items for cooking, an abundance of scents and other things to make soap, and a lot of other stuff for other projects. They sell beautifully finished quilts, throws and other handmade items. They have a small selection of secondhand retro clothing as well. They sell candy at their candy counter and if you're hungry, they have a small tea room where you can order homemade food and desserts. If you love arts and crafts or shopping for something unique, this is the place to visit. Oh, and back to my original thought, they recommend a seamstress for me, who is one of the teachers there that gives sewing lessons. I really do love this place. read more

Visited the store this week and as always they have fantastic display of current quilting projects plus other hand craft projects. I was disappointed the sign posted on the front door "no masks required" plus during my brief visit the number of customers (many of the age group of high risk) gathered in crowded classrooms not wearing masks. Obviously they are not following CDC guidelines and potentially risking the health of their customers. My visit was very brief and will not return. Please think twice before risking your health and shopping at this store. read more

I am brand new to the crafty game but I know a good thing when I see it. This store is incredible! There is something to buy in every single corner. Piecemakers Village feels a bit like you have walked onto Knott's Berry Farm...it has a very warm, inviting country feel. It is quiet inside, the fabrics and the strings, yarns, and flosses have created such insulation it is so peaceful inside. I could spend hours in there looking at everything. It's a much different feeling than walking into a major chain craft store...yikes, I can't believe I even compared the two. I have been familiar with the location for years but only just went in for the first time after Kealoha found that they carry a brand of embroidery thread that I like...Valdani. We found the selection of Valdani threads and I took three colors for my arsenal of string. I really wish I would have asked for the gal's name that had helped me...I wanted to find a certain type of fabric from a swatch I was carrying around and she led me right to the spot where I would find it and the proceeded to show me reams of fabric until I found the one that I liked best. She cut a yard of the fabric for me, rang me up for the embroidery thread I had picked out and Kealoha and I headed out the door. I ran back in really quick and asked her which fabric it was she gave me and she wrote down every bit of information I needed to successfully find it again. Places like this give me hope and inspire the creativity that is dying to get out of me. I can't wait until I can go back and spend more time looking at EVERYTHING. read more

OK so this place is run by a cult. Really. Google it. Which is kind of strange. But if you can get around that... It's AMAZING. Not cheap. But quality really cool stuff. Quilting fabric, collectibles, a cafe, a barber, beads, embroidery supples, etc. They have a craft fair coming up 12/3 and 12/4... You should definitely go. My sister and I went last year and we still remember the fun times we had. We went on Friday night in the evening when the craft fair is all lit up with Christmas lights and under the stars... it's awesome :) read more

This store is worth going out of your way to visit! I was there for three and a half days while I attended a doll-making workshop, and each time I went into the store I found something I hadn't seen before. The store is laid out in different rooms which are decorated in "old timey" style.The store stocks supplies for many arts and crafts projects, so if you are interested in quilt making, embroidery, crocheting, knitting, needle tatting, doll making, cooking, nuno felting, gourd art, bead work, metal work or fabric embellishment you will probably find something that you just have to have. If you don't know how to do any of these things, Piecemakers offers classes and demonstrations, as well as special events throughout the year.. Even if you aren't interested in making things, there are also finished projects, antiques, artisan items, and vintage clothing for sale. Be sure to check out the "Artists Upstairs" and the vintage clothing. The quilts alone are worth going into the store to see. I can't say enough kind things about the staff. While I was there I felt more as if I was visiting favorite aunties rather than being in a store. Everyone was helpful and went out of their way to direct me to what I needed. I didn't get a chance to try the apple pie, but everything else they served while I was there was delicious, and I'm just sorry I didn't buy the recipe book. Next time! read more

I lived in Western North Carolina for several years and this store reminds me of the more rural towns. I'm transported to a time and place far away from here. The store is much smaller than I expected from other reviews though. They sold bolts of fabric and buttons. Lots of knick knacks but nothing with patterns I liked. Since it was pre-Thanksgiving, they had pies too. This isn't the place for me. The patterns are more for the older set. read more

I took a private class with Rossana and let me tell you she knows what's up! She taught me all super secret sewing tricks and had some great stories . She was very patient , and her explanations were clear . I forgot to bring a pattern..(oops!) but no fear ! Rossana showed me how to make one! BAMB! problem solved! At the end of my 2 hour lesson I still had not finished making my apron but she was kind enough to let me finish while she taught her next class. Great price and I will be booking another class with her very soon! Walked around the store and everything was very well organized and beautiful! The staff was also super helpful. Much more knowledgable than the people at Joann's or Michaels. This is the place to go for any DIY/ craft / sewing questions. read more

I'm rating the crafts fair that was sponsored and held here. We went to the fair which had several vendors who were selling a wide range of different craft items, from weird stuffed critter bears, to teddy bear clothing, to home-made truffles. My favorite part of the fair was actually the food. There was this amazing apple pie with such great flavor - it tasted so homemade and good. The actual piecemakers store was quite cute. It reminded me of something out of "prairie days," with sew patterns of paisleys and bonnets. Despite the old school feel items (knit patterns, doilies, etc.), there is a wide variety of fabrics to choose from that is sure to attract the craft-savvy people. read more

Love this place! If you love to sew or want to learn - they offer classes. They offer gifts, fabrics, notions, and candies. Every time I have been here a wonderful lady named Linda always helps me. She is patient and very kind. I wanted some organic cotton yarn and they had it. Not a big offering of natural fiber yarn, but if you want blended or acyrilic they will probably have what you are looking for. They have extensive offerings of classes from nuno felting to ribbon embellishment and doll making! You can rent a sewing machine by the hour for a small fee. Upstairs they have room filled with handmade artisanal treasures. I found some lovely felted floral brooches and some sweet handmade petite doilies for my dresser. Also, they all kinds of seasonal treasures around the store for sale, which are right beside handmade or antique treasures for sale. You just never know what you may find. Lastly they have a quaint tea and pie room if you need a quick me up. They also offer fairs and holiday themes festivities at their store. Such a great littke place! read more

I have personally visited Piecemakers three times since March of this year, and each time I have felt more and more welcome. Each visit I have gotten to know the staff more and each visit has been very memorable. The most recent trip taking 13 women from Imperial Beach Quilters to visit. The ladies were made to feel like they were family. All the various crafting techniques have inspired all of us to expand our abilities. Omg. This is the cutest store and they have the most adorable fleet of grandmas running the place. I came here to buy silk ribbon that I needed for my wedding invitations and programs. They didn't have enough in stock and were able to special order the ribbon for me. It came within a couple of days. (Note - another store said they would charge me $10 extra to order the same ribbon and that it could take 6 weeks to get the ribbon) Walking into this store feels like you just walked into grandma's house. They serve food there everyday. We ordered a slice of carrot cake to go. The kitchen looks like the kitchen at grandma's house, not a commercial kitchen. And they put our slice of cake in a plastic container that was once the to go container from the local Mexican restaurant. In any other situation, you might be put off by that, but with this place, it totally makes sense and fits with the character. I actually appreciate that they tried to be green and reuse perfectly good plastic containers. And they make fresh baked treats daily. My personal favorite are the peanut butter, Rice Krispie, white chocolate clusters. To die for!!! read more

I've been wanting to make a quilt for some time. I just got a sewing machine and wanted to break it in. I found this place on yelp, and it sounded really interesting. First, I haven't made a quilt in since I was about 12. It's been quite awhile. I had a pattern I wanted to use, and was looking at fabrics, but was feeling a little lost. I wanted to ask some of the employees some questions, but when I walked in there was a group of them standing around talking with some other customers. They never once acknowledged me. After the one customer went away that they were talking to, they still said nothing to me. It felt a little uncomfortable. The store itself has a lot of different items in it. I am imagine if you are in to sewing and crafting this would be a good place to try, so three stars based off that. However, the staff was so disappointing to me. I left and went to buy my stuff somewhere else. I would have loved to have spent my money here, but it wasn't meant to be I guess. read more

Solid 4 stars for the 'whoaaa, where am I?!' experience. This place is time and space travel to some rural country store in 1965; it definitely felt a little Twilight Zone. I mentioned that to one of the store clerks (who are uniformed in jean suspenders) and she said that *everyone* says the same thing. It's a kitschy, musty store that looks like the home of an eccentric hoarding grandmother - they have all sorts of random craft supplies scattered among seasonal holiday decorations, creepy nightmare-fodder porcelain dolls, knick-knacks and stuff I have no working vocabulary to describe. Sensory overload took over after 15 minutes or so and I only managed to visit about 20% of the first floor. I'll probably go back to experience the whole thing one of these days - maybe even make it a tourist destination for out of town friends who are into gnomes, make their own yarn and call Coke, pop - after mentally preparing for the trip (as in surreal experience). I had no idea that this place has any religious affiliation until I just saw the other reviews, it doesn't feel like it when you go in. It seems like a country sewing store that Laura Ingall's would have gone to. I didn't go here to shop, I went to a felting class workshop with Jzin Teng (with my 10 year old daughter) and we had a blast. We made swans and learned how to needle felt. Jzin was awesome and helpful! She does beautiful work, can't wait to take another class. read more

This place very cute as well as having a nice range of yarn, fabric, notions, home decor, and odds and ends. Shopping here is definitely an experience with its year-around christmas tree displays and multiple levels, but I definitely would recommend taking a look if you are into crafting. This place is amazing! All the other reviews are right, total time warp. It's impossible to describe though you have to see for yourself! I am not a crafty person and I don't even know how to sew but this place inspired me! They offer classes for sewing, crotchet and many other things and I will definitely be attending soon. Even if you never plan on doing any sort of arts and crafts this place is a must see! They have so much more, they serve lunch, have desserts, sell lotions and scrubs that they hand make, they sell cards and also have a ton of items for Christmas on the 2nd floor! I discovered this place when I was laid off of work over the summer and went stir crazy for something to keep myself busy with. I looked around for quick classes to take and found that this place offered a braided rug making class and a hand quilting class. So I rounded up my retired neighbor ladies and off we went to sign up. The rug making class was only about $30 bucks but after I had signed up, the instructors/teachers helped me pick out my fabrics and supplies....$98.00 more dollars later and I was ready for my class. I have to say, the material here is outrageously expensive but a more beautiful and quality fabric I have yet to see. You could definitely feel the quality of this fabric and the prints where really beautiful. Needless to say, how pretty does it have to be if I am going to braid a rug out of it and walk on it all day......I aimed myself for the 40% off isle! The class was fun, great to take with a friend (you just don't stop laughing enough to get your work done in class) the instructors are so patient and kind (even when they tell you to take it out and try it again). The next class was the hand quilting....make the pattern, cut it out, pin to a pillow case to make sure you line it up right and hand sew all those frigging pieces together. We made "Julias Hearts" hanging quilt and I have to say mine came out great, much to my suprise. I have it on my coffee table as a table runner. My dear retired friend made a pillow of hers and has made 2 or 3 since then once she learned the technique. I have been to JoAnns (which I love and can I say....coupons!) JoAnns has great tools to work with and some pretty nice fabric but none of their fabric comes close to comparing to the pricy stuff at Piecemakers. If you go to Piecemakers, check out the lil store in the back (follow the yellow trail painted on the parking lot) also, they have festivals several times a year which are fun with booths, food and music. I had a very unpleasant experience when I tried to enroll in a doll making class. When I first called, I was told that we would be served lunch. I asked if they had allowed their kitchen to be inspected as required by law since there had been a huge problem with that issue back in the nineties. The woman I was speaking to regarding the class was very argumentative and I finally dropped the issue and asked that a supply list be sent to me. She said she would do that and I waited two weeks for it. Nothing arrived. I called two days ago and was told that I was not welcome in the class and she had neglected to call me to let me know. I don't think I'll be taking my business to Piecemakers in the future with or without food. read more

You won't find anything else like it! It's an amazing collection of quality fabrics that are a quilter's dream, beautiful beads, a hair salon, a tea room, greeting cards and much more. I pick up a few lovely beads every time I stop by. It's great to not have to purchase an entire strand if you don't need it. A wonderful assortment of classes are offered for both children and adults .I've taken a couple of wearable art type classes and had a wonderful time (I'm currently remaking a patchwork jacket from a long ago class into Christmas stockings). The store atmosphere is warm and relaxing. Also, there are a couple of lovely holiday craft fairs that take place annually in the large parking lot. read more
