It'll do, I suppose. I came to the lake to help out friends with their paddle boards, and ended up here for dinner, swept along with the crowd. The outdoors, open air deck atmosphere is always nice (when it's not 100 degrees), but - not surprisingly - the menu isn't geared toward the meatless diner. We shared nachos (hold the beef and/or chicken), which were just so-so. About the only vegetarian, non-snack item offered for dinner was the portobello burger, so that was my order. Food took quite a while to arrive, but maybe because we were a large party of 12? The burger ended up not being one large grilled mushroom cap, as one might expect, but several slices on the bun. It was okay, but somewhat stodgy, with minimal condiments - zingy pickles and fresh onions would have helped it out. My side was fries, which the server described as 'thick curly fries'. Sure enough, they were - kind of fat, like an auger drill bit. They were only lukewarm, so got cold fast. All in all, a pretty stodgy meal, that I couldn't finish. Other than water, I ordered a gin & tonic, which was served in a large, clear plastic cup. No doubt after a long hot day on the lake this place is good to find, but not exactly a 'destination'. read more

We have been here 3 time-mainly because they allow us to being our dog and they are always so sweet about bringing a bowl of water for her. The first two times the service was good but the food was mediocre. Last night we had horrid service. The guy clearly has not been taught how to deal with customers which is a surprise because the manager (owner?) is so gracious when we come in. He acted so arrogant and as if he was too important to be there. The clincher was we wanted to stay after eating and have a few drinks but he slapped our bill on the table before we were even through eating. The food tastes good but then i was up all night sick. Can I give this place zero stars? We came in with our kids asking for water. Granted we have five kids with us, just politely asked for a cup of water which we were more than happy to purchase. Got the rudest response. They brought four cups, really dry. We asked for one more and got total attitude and eye rolling from the waitress. We looked for the manager who came out and gave us the glass all dry too. Then tried to escort us out to the front saying we aren't open yet. We waited for two hours and then "oh, sorry, the kitchen is closing". People were coming in, and grabbing a table - and then getting service bypassing the hosts. So maybe we should have just grabbed a table?? Here's my recommendation - Get an early dinner at one of the really great restaurants in Denison like Kent's or Rustico, and then go to the bar at the Island restaurant for drinks only since the bar staff seem to understand the value of customer service. Some F bomb rap music but the crowd is actually mostly 35-60's all white. Nice deck; decent food and good service. Note to management: remove the rap musi from your playlist or get one of the customer choice juke boxes and let the customers decide. Country music is #1 in Texas. I was so excited The Island was reopened. Now I just wished they stay closed. We made a reservation for 8PM. Another party came in and stole our reservation claiming to be Chris party of 15. The other table lied and sneakily took my reservation. The restaurant did nothing to resurrect our reservation. They had the audacity to ask if we wanted a picnic table. I replied, no we would like a table with seat backs. After finally being seated, we had a 90 minute ticket time. We have always in the past had excellent service, this time it was not the case. We had crummy service and I had to find the manager on duty to get drinks and food. Our waitress was blatantly mad she had to wait on our table. When our food finally came out, the fries were cold. The manager did end up comping our food and we bought our drinks. She also asked for us to give them another chance. My advice to you, though is to save your money and time and stay away. This is not The Island you remember. read more

This was great. There were 12 of us and the service fantastic. It is a restaurant on the lake! The view was amazing. The atmosphere is fun and low key. There is something for everyone! I think anyone that is let down is expecting too much. It is a bar & grill in a lake community. Enjoy! read more

This is one kewl spot on the Marina; food, nice cold drinks and live music on weekends. Very spacious with nice seating and patio overlooking the marina area. Food was good, catfish basket was a hit and wife had the chicken margarita flatbread. Expensive but giving the location you should expect that. read more

Decent sized l-shaped lake bar by th he Marina. Open air, but can roll down the doors as needed. Outside patio too. They keep lively music and bring in some music talent too. Today, they had 2 musician groups in from 1-4pm then again from 9-1 am. The wait staff is really lathargic, inattentive and below average. The food is just so-so. They need to revamp the cooking team. I really expected more so I was disappointed. The staff at check in stayed on their cell phone texting. Very few smiles. TV with sports around the bar. Frozen drinks & full bar with beer bucket options too. Beer bucket had very little ice so our beer got tempid. Only thing they got right was the music. That's it. It's a forgettable bar. First of all, the restaurant is quite nice with picturesque views of the lake. Absolutely nothing wrong there. As far as the meal however, not a whole lot good I can say about it. We jumped in for a drink and light Saturday lunch. Liked the view from the patio, the hurricane was good. And that's pretty much it. We needed to ask twice for our waters (and it was a REALLY hot day). They were run of the spinach salad which I ordered, so I asked for a veggie plate instead. For $14 I got a plate of raw, not fresh, dry carrot, which tasted moldy to me, some raw cauliflower and broccoli. I complained and the waitress immediately offered something else instead (great!) - I got just a starter, calamari, which was OK. My husband's soft shell crab was extremely salty and he never got the side dish, he ordered. Not a good experience for us, most probably will never come back. read more

This restaurant is a seasonal restaurant at High Point marina. The fare has excellent choices that offer dishes that are in available around Pottsboro. The real High Point to this restaurant is the ambience. You can kickback have food or snacks a cool beverage and you are right on the shores of Lake Texoma. The views are fantastic. We wanted something different and having an open air bar and restaurant on the lake is really nice change of pace. Carmen was excellent...always checked on us. The bacon wrapped shrimp was amazing. We love the Island Bar & Grill. It is part of the Highport Marina complex, which is terrifically popular in its own right because of its large boat ramp and ample trailer parking (not to mention the killer boat slips). The restaurant overlooks the boat ramp on one side and the slips on the other. The three walls with the views feature retractable glass walls that they raise up during good weather in the summer. This means you can sit at the bar with a nice breeze, breathing in the smells of the lake and watch the sun set over the lake and the bar. The food is really good too. I had a burger there I didn't like once but everything else has been great. (The burger had tasted good but I bit into something hard - a bit of bone perhaps? It happens, I guess). The tilapia entree is by far the best I think. There is an outdoor club where live acts play up on the land ... did I mention that The Island extends out over the water? Word to the wise ... check in with the hostess before seating yourself or you will not get served. The kids who work here are like kids everywhere. If you can get them to acknowledge you and connect, they're great. Given half a chance though, they have the uncanny ability to simply not see you, as if your molecular density is too slight for them to notice you unless the hostess points you out. read more

Hasn't turned out to be as good as we had hoped. We have a boat slip at Highport, and go there all the time, but don't go to the Island much. Certainly not as much as we did last year. They ask for my license almost every time I visit. When I questioned them as to why, they said the membership only last 2 weeks. Witnessed employees sitting down at table with patrons, while they were suppose to be working. I also go to North Rig Grill a lot, you would never see their employees doing this, so not sure why the difference, if it is managed by the same folks. I guess they are on "Island time" there. Went July 3rd. They yelled last call at 11:45 PM. Bouncer came around at 11:58 and basically told us to leave. We were sipping on the original drinks from when we got there at 11:15, so we were almost finished anyway, but surprised at the technique. Our bill was paid up and we were sitting at a table outside, so technically we weren't keeping them from closing up. read more

First off it was Saturday night at a marina, so I realized the place would be busy. We were not seated immediately even though there were a couple of tables that were obviously available. I realized later it was because they were way understaffed. Our waitress was overworked so we were trying not to be bothersome. Food is overpriced and not anything special. This is a bar first and restaurant 2nd in my opinion. They had live music playing outside, and a completely different type of music blaring through the speakers inside. Nothing seemed well managed. If you're on the lake and need an ok tasting expensive burger, I'd probably come here. Outside of that, I wouldn't make it back to this place unless I had no other option and I was starving. The wait staff was ok given the conditions of the night. Update: I just saw that they are under water so I guess this review really won't matter to anyone, but here it is anyway. read more

Even with the heat, my girlfriends and I enjoyed our lunch on their patio very much. Our waiter had two 10-top tables and us, and still took great care of us. None of our meals were life-changing, but everything was tasty and as we ordered it. The beer was cold and the views were beautiful. Good time had by all! Only critique would be for the hostess who didn't really check to see if they had a table inside when we asked for one. Just to a half glace around the room and said she didn't think there were any open and it would probably be 30 minutes to an hour (no one else was waiting for a table). So that was weird. read more
