Bland, generic Tex Mex. I'm pretty certain most of it is prepped and frozen or chilled, then reheated in a microwave. The atmosphere is friendly and they push hard to please, but you have to feel for the staff; it's like a good actor trying to work with a terrible script. It's busy and loud at peak hours. Not the worst, but definitely not the best tex-mex restaurant I've eaten at. Coming from a place that had several great places to eat at in central Texas, it's hard to come by a pretty good Tex-mex restaurant in east Texas, but there are some good dishes here to eat. The fajitas were decent, and I did have a burrito covered with queso that was pretty good. I've tried a few other things, but nothing memorable. We were in town for the Caddo Kennel Club Dog Show and went here the first night. They were busy with Graduations and Proms so service was just a little slow but not bad at all. The manage was going around making sure everyone was taken care of. Food was good, the Fajitas were on point and the margaritas were perfect. Really enjoyed our meal. The cowboy chili was the best I've ever eaten-and I don't say things like that lightly. They served a "green" and a red sauce with the obligatory chips. Both were good. Atmosphere is amazing with old-style Mexico and other Central/South American design. Menu selection is more than typical Tex-Mex, but old "standards" are available. Prices are moderate -- perhaps a little more than other Tex-Mex restaurants. My family ate there twice on a recent trip, once going and once returning. The server on our first time (evening meal) was fantastic. The second time (lunch hour) wasn't as great, but the time of day could have been a factor. My only true complaint is their street sign. It's nearly impossible to see at night if you've never been there before. It should be more brightly lit. read more

Wish I could no stars..... So f'ing pissed.. decided to try out this place. Once we walked I felt little uncomfortable. We asked for table of 11. Hostess freaked out saying the just had party of 70 and 30 so it would be a little bit. We said that was fine. 5mins, yeah 5 mins, later we had a table on the side towards the back. We placed our drink order with one waitress but then another dropped it off and took our food. They brought out the fajitas, no sides or tortillas. Waitress said " enjoy". I asked where the rest was and with a little attitude she say " there's another try of food coming". We asked 4 times if they could turn down the AC and was told we were in the dungeon.. WoW ok. The manger kept walking by looking at us. Waitress pretty much asked where the rest of the party was at. Told them the were on their way from the university. She walked off and abut 10mins later mgr came by again and asked how we were doing. I said was fine just waiting for my parents he says "ok I'll get the check". About a min later ANOTHER waitress comes with the checks... I GO OFF!!! DO YOU WANT US GONE? I guess I scared her she went to get the mgr who apologize saying he miss understood me.. BS...I go off on him he wanted to pay for our food but didn't want to give him the satisfaction so we paid for our food. I never like playing the race card or gay card but damn.. We were driving through Marshall on a fishing trip. We read the reviews on Yelp which helped us decide to give this restaurant a try. The waitress of very good especially considering it was her first day on the job. The food came out fast and hot and delicious. My husband ordered the Chicken Fajiatas and I had the Quesadeas. The sauce was very good, one similar to another mexican restaurant that I loved that closed but it was thicker which I like. It also had another sauce but I am not sure what it was made of. It was not quacamole. We might just have to stop there another when we leave to go home. read more

As with any restaurant there are some items on the menu that are just your basic offerings, and then there are those dishes that really shine. Here the John Wayne ( cane asado ) is a real winner, as are the fajitas. For a special treat, order the sautéed shrimp as a side,along with the fajita butter to dip them in! read more

We've had good and bad experiences here. The first time was fantastic. The second, service was terrible. We were out of drinks for most of the meal. My husband relayed this to the manager who stated the server was new and we should understand. Shouldn't checking on drinks be Serving 101? That being said, I have been to the Jalapeno Tree in Marshall 5 or 6 times now and I can say now that I will not be returning. The service is lacking in more areas than one. My favorite restaurant in Marshall, next to Jucy's! Very good Tex-mex. the green sauce is the best and the salsa is good most days. Everything was fine until the rude lunch manager took over our ticket. Not so much that he added 3.99 for chi ps and salsa that had always been complimented but the attitude he did it with. We have been eating twice a week & there are usually 5 . I pay 7.00 for my meal of 1 chicken breast plus my husband has 1 cheese enchilada little over 11.00 always tipping 3. This location is well-kept and has great service. Our waitress was over the top friendly and very on top of our orders. All of our food came out perfectly and we were in and out with 45 minutes. I encourage you to split items and I ordered the small nachos and it was enough food for a small family. LOL! The meat was flavorful and the nachos were piled high. We're on our way home to Houston from vacation in Arkansas and Missouri. We stopped because of the fun looking exterior. So glad we did. Fantastic fajitas and quesadillas. The interior is as crazy and fun as the exterior. Love finding great local places to eat when on the road rather than eating at the big chain places and this fits the bill. We had the chicken fajita enchiladas and the fried fish tacos. Both were very good. The chicken fajita was on top of the enchiladas, a nice surprise. Really good chicken! The fish tacos were really good, but next time I'll ask for extra sauce... just the right spicy. The Sangria swirl margarita did not disappoint. Not inexpensive, but worth it in my opinion.
