Stopped here in the evening with my husband around 7:15 - didn't realize they close at 8:00. We each ordered a single cheeseburger. I got onion rings & a frosty mug of root beer while my husband ordered cheese sticks & a vanilla shake. Our burger patties were scant but flavorful - good thing we weren't too hungry. Meh. Not really the Root beer stands like I grew up with. Their food isn't very good and the root beer isn't my favorite. The food seems over priced for what you get. I had a chicken sandwich, but it was processed chicken (think chicken patty) and not chicken breast. The texture was off putting and it was quite greasy. My first few trips here my wife and I were really ready to give it 4 or 5 stars. Food is good and staff are nice. However, the last few times we have been here our car has been ignored, and cars coming after us have been served first. I see it has been a while since someone has reviewed this restaurant. The Jug is an institution in Middletown. It went through some rough times over the past few years with the old owner. Now under new ownership it ha been taken back to its original glory. This is the good old fashioned root beer stand it always has been and always should be. Way to go new owner. My only gripe is the French fries. Not a big deal...I always just get the double cheese burgers anyway. read more

The Jug is a cool spot to eat at in the summer. The prices are a bit much though. They are like the prices of Five Guys. The last visit there was opening day for the season (April 11) . The service then was Awful. It's not like they were over loaded with customers either. We sat on the inside and they acted like it was hard work to get us a refill of their delicious root beer! Stopped here for the first and last time. Cook didn't know how to roll out hamburger into a huge patty . Asked for well done, got a holey burger the size of a pickle on this huge bun. Was told because it's well done, that's what it looks like. White Castle does a better job than this. read more

The burger and fries I ordered were wonderful. A drive up diner. Middletown, Ohio has a little piece of history and a new owner manning the ship. Donnie is conscious of what his customers are wanting, and delivers the products they desire, efficiently and quickly despite the limitations his kitchen presents. The food was hot, and the drinks and desserts were cold. Renee my server took an interest in my dining experience, and made sure I was happy with what I ordered and ate. I have lived in Middletown for almost 15 years. In those 15 years, I have eaten at the Jug precisely twice. The first time was about five years ago - And my experience was lackluster and disappointing. The second time I ate here was about three weeks ago, and wow! What a difference. Had a cheeseburger and fries - Great stuff. I used to say that you can't screw up a burger and fries... But five years ago, I thought I found the exception to that rule. Whatever was done between five years ago and three weeks ago (I heard that it's got a new owner - Which would explain the night-day difference in my experiences), it's changed for the better. My wife and kids are planning to make a trip to the Jug a regular thing. Looking forward to enjoying their burgers again - Perhaps this weekend, even! read more

Love the Jug. Went there for the first time yesterday for dinner with the family. All of us liked our burgers and my daughter enjoyed her nugget kids meal. The burgers aren't huge but still a great value for the money. There was 5 of us, and we got out of there for less than $30. The servers were very polite but they seemed a little under staffed. Nothing to complain about, but they brought us the wrong drinks the first time and we waited kind of a long time for food. The weather was warmer than expected and it's early in the year so I'm guessing they weren't expecting the traffic they had. We sat at the picnic tables out front. Kind of cool to imagine the number of folks who have been to that place, and sat in that same spot over 80 years! read more

I've been eating here for over 55 years and it's OUTSTANDING! The burgers are just like the were in the mid 60s. I live in Colorado now and visit Middletown twice a year but I always make sure I stop at the Jug once or twice each visit for a burger and root beer. Great Stuff and very impressive!! read more

why fix it if it's not broken? Burgers used to have onion slices not diced. can barely taste the onions. waffle fries were fresh cut fries not frozen from Gordon Food Service probably. Same for the onion rings that are pretty pricey. I've been going there for fifty years. if I do come back it will be for burgers only. read more

Enjoyed walking there and eating outside on the covered picnic tables. The service was fast and very friendly. The classic single, double, and even chili cheeseburger all tasted great and were better than any other burger in town. Crispy flat top grilled burgers are always the best. We were stuffed before finishing everything but it was so good we couldn't stop eating. A burger, side, drink, plus extras like a root beer float and giant waffle cone with soft vanilla ice cream came out to about $6 per person. read more
