I had dinner at the Keg for a friend's birthday not too long ago and I left with very mixed feelings. This was my first visit to this location but I've eaten at many Keg locations across Canada. I've always recommended the Keg as the best place to get a great steak due to the consistency in the quality of their food as well as the overall experience in dining out at their restaurants. On this particular visit, the service was excellent. Our party was quite large but absolutely everyone felt taken care of and our server was truly wonderful. It was quite loud in the restaurant because it was really busy and everyone was having a great time, but she managed to get everyone's order correct and did a fantastic job. The downside on this visit was the food. I ordered a steak with lobster, which is not something I would usually order. My go-to meal choice has almost always been the Filet Classic dinner, which has never disappointed me before. As it was a special occasion, I splurged and added a lobster tail. I was actually very surprised when my plate arrived to see a dried up, almost mangled-looking, and quite small, lobster tail. I did bring it to the server's attention and she immediately brought a replacement; however that one wasn't much better. It did not taste very good and had a rubbery consistency. I honestly didn't want to make a big deal about it as I didn't want to upset my friend (the guest of honour) who was sitting beside me. I did ask for a box to take the rest of my meal home, but a couple of other things I noticed were the green beans had not been properly trimmed and still had the stems connecting several beans together, which told me the kitchen staff was not prepping the food with much care. The vegetables were not well seasoned, again, very unusual for a Keg meal. I will say that the steak was well cooked to mid-rare as I requested, but the rest of the meal just fell flat for me this visit. The Keg has always been a place I recommend to anyone looking for a great night out but when people are spending upwards of $100 per person on a meal, they hope every part of that experience is worth their hard-earned money. I hope the kitchen staff pays more attention to their food prep going forward as I know the Keg is definitely capable of providing a five-star experience. read more

Headed to The Keg in South Surrey at the tail end of November 2025 for a birthday bash. The birthday boy's love for meat is legendary--think T-Rex at a steakhouse--while I'm a reluctant vegetarian, more out of necessity than choice (thanks, digestive system). Service? Always top-notch. I've never met a server here who wasn't excellent. The birthday boy stuck to his tried-and-true favourite, while I set out on a culinary adventure and ordered the vegetarian Golden Harvest Bowl. Turns out, this bowl should've been taste-tested by Gordon Ramsay first--he'd have launched it across the room, where it would have landed on the wall in a glorious Jackson Pollock tribute. The falafels? More like "fail-afels"--they were so dark and mushy, I'm convinced they were science experiments gone wrong. The taste was like someone spilled a cauldron full of salty brown gravy mix into the batter, and then shrunk them to the size of a hedgehog chocolate (adorable, but only if you're not planning to eat them). I couldn't even choke down one--my taste buds staged a mutiny. The rice, masquerading as "pilaf," was really just yellow rice impersonating something more exotic, while desperately dreaming of spices and salt. The side? Two halved cherry tomatoes (bless their hearts) and about three tablespoons of angrily chopped raw red cabbage. No seasoning on those either, unless "disappointment" counts. Beneath the rice lay a mysterious yellow mush, possibly sauce, possibly another science experiment. All of it was served at less-than-room temperature--so cold it could've auditioned for a role as the iceberg in Titanic. I ate the cherry tomatoes and red cabbage, and left the rest as a modern art installation on my plate. Meanwhile, the birthday boy was happily tucking into his main, but his beloved Mushrooms Neptune appetizer had fallen from grace. He remembered the glorious old days--big, juicy mushroom caps, with real seafood bits swimming in cream cheese and mozzarella. Now? Just a couple of mushroom scraps, zero seafood, and the cream cheese had the consistency of existential dread. COVID changed a lot: portion sizes shrank, quality dove off a cliff, and prices soared like a Vancouver Condo rent. But come on - this is The Keg! The bill for our alcohol-free meal? A cool $140.00. For that price, we could've hit the Indian place on Scott Road and dined like royalty, with both of our bellies full - and not of regret either! Moral of the story? Never expect a decent ethnic-vegetarian dish at a restaurant where the mascot is a ribeye. If you're a vegetarian tagging along, eat before, and just show up for the laughs. You'll have more fun, and your stomach will thank you. As for the Golden Harvest Bowl at The Keg? I recommend it only if you're looking for a new way to start a Riot of Disappointment. I'm definitely missing something because I had a great experience here. I ordered the 10oz Prime Rib (medium). It was a prime rib, and it was cooked to medium. It was delicious. Tender, flavorful. I was expecting to add salt, but it didn't need it. The mashed potatoes were fine. The fried onions were confusing so I'm knocking half a star just for that. Our server was very kind and checked on our table regularly. Regardless of where you sit there is a mild "roar" of noise, but nothing so loud you notice. What makes this dining experience so memorable is how different it is compared to the overall consensus on yelp. I'll chalk this up to getting very very lucky? read more

We had an outstanding experience Friday night! Had reservations 7pm and they took us right in which is expected but sadly it's unusual these days. The Restraunt is clean, well appointed and dimly lit. Our waiter "Tyson" was fantastic! Started with a Hendrix Martini and Tyson had them hand stuff some Blue cheese olives which set the tone for the evening. I had a Caesar which was fresh and wonderful, steak and lobster which were both very good and cooked correctly. The French onion soup was perfect as was the Blue cheese Wedge salad. Others at the table had filets one was not cooked quit well enough but it was addressed and back to the table in quick order! Tyson had a great sense of humor and coupled with his efficiency made it a perfect evening out. Getting your meat done right... There's a split among my friends on the Keg, in regards of likes and dislikes but I personally enjoy the consistency of this chain. As far back as I can remember, any mistake or unsatisfactory were made right. Anyways, first time visiting this location since I was in the mood for some appies and meat. This place is located in south Surrey on 200th street, same plaza as Sungiven and Tap & Barrel. There are plentiful of free plaza parkings available. Inside has the same layout and concept as most Kegs; tables and semi booth seats by the bar with TVs, to the back are the main dining area with the tables and booth seats. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Complimentary bread with butter. Always nice and warm. 2. French onion soup. A nice and hearty soup with a nice layer of baked cheese on top. Good for the cold or rainy days. 3. Prawn cocktail. Good size with a fresh light crunch to it. 4. Mushroom Neptune. Always one of my favourite here, I personally think one of the better ones compared to other places. 5. Scallops and bacon. It was okay, the bacon a bit overcooked, became too crispy. 6. 10oz prime rib with snow crab clusters. One of the juiciest and tenderest prime rib I had in a long time, even compared to other locations. However the snow crab was quite dry. 7. 7oz filet mignon with snow crab clusters. It was tender and nicely done as usual, but once again the snow crab was quite dry. Overall, the atmosphere was quite casual and relaxing. The energy was friendly and positive with minimal noises even though seated close to the bar. The service was quite attentive and good which made the dining experience here more enjoyable. As for the food; the appies were good, the steaks were tender and juicy, the snow crabs however were quite dry and disappointing. It was a cold and heavy rainy night. I was surprised the steakhouse was very busy. It had a nice atmosphere but rather loud which quieted down later. Reservations were made and we arrived a bit early so we had about a 5 to 10 minute wait. Victoria was our waitress and she was fantastic. Drink orders taken right away while we looked at the menu. When she returned we ordered our food. Sourdough bread was brought to the table between the drink and dinner order. She answered all our questions about the food that we wanted and did not want. Caesar salads came and a wedge salad were served up. The wedge salad was great with real bacon cut up. The Caesar salads a bit too much dressing for my liking. The lobster bisque soup was ordered and maybe it was the bowl size but it looked very small. It looked very creamy and I was advised it was delicious. Two of us had the prime rib. I asked for it rare and the waitress advise she will try to get a rare cut as most were medium rare. The steaks were excellent and cooked to everyone's satisfaction. There was no room for dessert. Prices of everything is above average but that was expected for a steakhouse. Still with all the great service and nice food there are restaurants out there that are cheaper with the same great service and food. There was a party of 30 of us for a birthday party. Firstly they packed us in like sardines, they had to add another table for little more elbow room. When we were seated we were told that an 18% gratuity would be added to our bill due to the large party and "extra" staff needed, which most of us were ok with, myself included. Unfortunately the service was less than adequate (2servers and busboy) the birthday girl seemed be served last for drinks, entree and dessert. And the worst part of it all for me was that we didn't actually eat until 2 1/2 hrs after we sat down. Shame on the restaurant for not providing enough servers. I will never recommend or have a function at this Keg. With that being said the food was good, unfortunately most took theirs to go because the meal was served so late. read more

Dine out, Vancouver was on so ordered the prime rib that can be selected with it. You also get an appetizer of some choice. an entrée of some choice and a dessert. The appetizer I had was Cesar salad. It was delicious ,the entrée I had prime rib, which was not delicious. It was very thin, and spongy ridiculously thin and looked like it had been beaten to tenderize it , and literally hardly any meat just fat fatty gristle. It is a real shame when you pay money for something and you get nothing for your dollar basically inferior garbage. Also, it was not when you order a regular 10 ounce prime rib, which is thick cut and quite delicious. This was very ridiculous, never have I had such a thin low quality prime rib from the keg. I won't do dine out at the keg again . The dine out Vancouver was not worth it. The worst 55$ I've ever spent. The mangers should pay attention to what goes put on the floor. Mains: Our last two visits here the steak was mediocre and not up to the standards we have come to expect over the 50 years we have been regulars so we decided to try other options: Rack of pork ribs: overcooked, dry ... once and done ... never ever again a trip to a cowboy bar is a better bet. Prime rib: cooked as asked, tender - but no replacement for the steaks they used to present at this location. We didn't send anything back, just reached the conclusion that this can no longer claim place as a favourite place for special occasions. I'm so glad they had their patio open when they shut down indoors at all restaurants last week. We had a great dinner here and it felt good to support the staff as it's pretty rough for a lot of service workers right now. Tip them well!!! The Prime Rib was prepared to perfection!! The Keg is second to none for Prime Rib but that evening it was the best, the best I tell you. One of the greatest Prime Rib meals I've ever had!! I added on asparagus and fried mushrooms with a loaded baked potato and they have the incredible onion crisps. Wash all that goodness down with a Four Winds IPA and what a meal !! This is definitely not my first time at The Keg and it will definitely not be my last. My family and I planned to spend our Easter dinner here. After reading the reviews and knowing that it was the long weekend, I booked a reservation online. It was quick, easy, and confirmed right away. Everyone needs to do this, regardless of the day - it will save you the hassle and hanger pains from waiting. This location is super convenient if you live in Surrey or the surrounding areas. When you exit off the highway, it's hard to miss! Our reservation was for 5:45, but we arrived a bit earlier. For a Sunday evening during the long weekend, it was quickly getting busy, so I'm really happy that I made a reservation. We were sat right away in a cozy booth towards the back. Andre our server came by right away to drop off water. It's almost impossible for me to come to the Keg and not get a glass of wine. So I went with my usual - the Stoneleigh Sauvignon Blanc in Keg Size of course. My dad grabbed the Granville Island Winter Ale, which I quite liked. For food, we got the calamari to share. I'm not a big red meat/steak eater, so for my main dish I got the pistachio crusted salmon with a twice baked potato as my side. This dish has to be my favourite meal I've had at The Keg. First of all, the salmon is coated in a maple butter, which complimented the entire dish SO well. It was the perfect mix of salty and sweet. I was in heaven. There were also bacon wrapped brussel sprouts, which were delicious. I think I found my new go to Keg dish. Andre was great. He was attentive and kind, which made our experience even better. One thing that lacked though were the water refills. I know I was mostly drinking wine, but it would've been nice to have more water throughout my meal. Besides that, service was fantastic. As always, the Keg is a nice spot for a nice but not over the top date night. The food and service is always consistent. The restaurant always tends to be a tad on the loud side but that just mans you can get closer to your date. The ribs were fall off the bone and delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection. Also, all the steaks were medium rare and one steak showed more cooked than the rest. Also, one steak was the incorrect size that was ordered. Steak was sent back and correct one arrived. I've been to the Keg on numerous occasions and always choose a steak and garlic mashed potatoes. When we arrived the wait time was approximately 40 mins. We got in after about 20; this was on a Friday night and we didn't have reservations. Pretty awesome. We were seated by an extraordinary waitress/hostess. The entire night she was right on top of keeping our table clear and making sure our drinks were topped up. No one is really a big fan of being interrupted by serving staff but from our experience and our observations of nearby table experiences, the serving staff are shadows, popping in and out to make sure you have what you need without cutting off your conversations or demanding a lot of attention. Bonus points for this because my boyfriend and I were celebrating a few things and were having some intimate talks. When the food arrived it was out of this world amazing...! It never ceases to surprise me when the garlic mashed potatoes turn out top-notch; you'd think maybe it was just a good chef one time but no, it's consistent. Dessert is also a go-to here: Billy Miner Pie, a classic. The appetizers, the entrees, and the desserts are so fresh and easy to eat, never dense. Flavors are always balanced well. This time I ordered the pistachio crusted salmon with maple glazed brussel sprouts. Absolutely recommend to anyone who enjoys fish; I'll be getting that again soon. read more

We were given a gift certificate so decided to go back after our last Keg experience 10 years ago when our steak tasted like lighter fluid at the West Van location. Tonight at South Surrey Keg was marginally better- sadly the calamari was deep fried in old rancid tasting oil as were the crisps served with the tuna tartar. We stayed away from steak and ordered the lobster which was surprisingly well cooked and delicious. Stay clear of anything deep fried as all you taste is old oil that should have been changed last week. Our server was lovely although she knew little about the menu items. Food was horrible. Ordered escargot expecting it in garlic butter, it was a curry sauce. Had a Caesar was horrible. Ordered steak Oscar which should be crab got two shrimp 2 scallops (which I do not like). Also, asked for medium rare it came medium well (I did not complain) as I was tired of complaining. When asked if by accident I ordered steak Neptune, they said no they only put crab on the steak when it is lobsterfest. Also not true the other Keg on Scott road served it with crab and it was not lobster fest. To top it off there was a hair on my plate. The wait to be seated killed the experience for me. We went on a Saturday night, and were told the wait would be an hour to be seated in the dining area. We decided to wait. However, the wait was over an hour. The manager tried to make us feel better by handing us samples of appies as we waited, however this didn't really help - we just got hungrier. The dining area had a nice ambiance. We were seated at a booth. Menu items were very expensive.. I understand it's a statehouse but they definetly need some regular menu items (pasta,pizza etc) for the people who just want to have a dinner out but don't want to spend 40 bucks a person. We ordered 2 burgers off the menu. They were both pretty good - portablello mushroom burger with Caesar salad and the regular burger with fries. Overall experience was not very good, seating and service was pretty slow. Prices were way too high. Wouldn't go back here for a regular date night out... maybe for a special occasion. read more

Valentine's Day 2020. Hadn't been to the keg in years but thought it would be a nice special dinner with our out of town guests. Food was just ok. The fries were over salted and frozen not like the big steak fries they used to have. Sirloin Oscar... steak was cooked right but very bland. Seafood was good. Sauce just ok and not enough. Asparagus raw & green beans cold. My fiancé had the sirloin and fries and said it was just ok as well. Escargot was just ok. Sourdough bread was nice. We will not be returning price is way too high for just ok food. This one was a let down! I've loved the Keg for as long as I can remember and still do even after this experience! We were there to celebrate an anniversary and we got a seat at the bar and had a few drinks before moving to our table. We were in no rush, so order some nice appies and just enjoyed our drinks. Our appies came a little late but we didn't mind, as we were enjoying our drinks. Surprisingly, about a minute after the appies came out, someone from the kitchen bought our main order out right away! I was surprised and told them to hold the mains back. A few minutes after, our waitress brings the mains again, saying the steak might get overdone in the oven. We were barely working through our appies, so I sent it back again. Low and behold,m when I did have my main, the steak was overdone but I didn't feel like rushing through my meals but oh well. The Billy Miner pie is my favorite desert of all time and I am glad I got one because it helped me get over the steak! The waitress did compensate our appies, which is appreciated but I didn't feel getting rushed. Overall the service was not timed properly and ruined the experience. My family and I (6 of us) went to the Morgan Creek Keg. I have to say how wonderful our waitress, Montana was. I have a grand daughter with allergies to all nuts and sesame seeds, along with a daughter that is newly diagnosed with Celiac. We had so many questions for Montana which she answered fully and if she did not know, took the time to go and find out for us, we had her running back and forth and she completely took it in stride. It was so nice to feel comfortable about what they were about to eat. So many places just reply ummm I am not sure or hesitate and do not make you feel comfortable at all at their responses. We all had a wonderful meal, all enjoyed it, alot of this was because of Montana, shout out as well to the Kitchen Manager that came to our table, to put our Grand daughter especially at ease. I took my wife to The Keg for her birthday along with our two toddlers. As any patent knows, going out for a special family occasion with toddlers can be a challenge at times. :) Fortunately, The Keg made it a comfortable, enjoyable experience for us. Our server asked me what he could do to make it a great experience. My recommendations were executed perfectly. Great timing, accommodation of special requests for prep of our meals, even the ice cream for the kids arrived right on cue and just as requested. She continued on about protocol and policy as it is covid and we understand that. As most of us work in a medical or goverment field. After a point of her repetitive statements i had to ask her can you shut up and go away. Which she then replied for me to leave your establishment. Which i then replied, i gladly would as that's what we were trying to do to begin with as she had now ruined the experience of dining in your establishment for our friends birthday dinner. The maple ridge location is way better and more compassionate about their guests dining in their establishment. Which i will recommend my family and friends to not dibe at the south Surrey location anymore. Another horrible Keg, I don't think we have ever eaten at a good clean Keg without attitude from mindless staff. We asked not to be seated next to the spoiled child and its parents. What do they do, we tried to move but the young child like manager used a lack of staff as an excuse. We got up and left, I think calling their head office may be in order. Terrible location the steak I ordered did not have the peppercorn on it and the mashed potatoes were cold then when I complained they told me we would ask the cook, and then they brought me a different cut thinking I'm stupid with some peppercorn sprinkled on top and the potatoes remained cold. While we were eating my husband noticed his steak was rare despite him asking twice to have it well done and the waiter proceeded to say it's the lighting I was so mad I said excuse me I know my steaks and then the manager walked out and then looked at us and walked back in did not apologize once I'm going to include my rare steak that apparently was cooked, this location needs new management and a chef that can cook steak I been all over the lower mainland and this is by far the worst location. Went to the keg last night with my husband. Waiter came right away tookour drink order, drinks came right away. Took our food order, appetizers came right away and were very good. Problem was we had to sit and look at dirty dishes, cannot count how many times the waiter walked by and left dirty dishes sitting on table . Finally after we stared cleaning the table , he cleared the dirty dishes. I ordered a filet mignon steak medium well. Steak came and all I could see was red, I was not impressed. OMG! Why couldn't we find this on our first night in from California? Our dinners have been ad-hoc due to our tournament game schedule, but glad we had a chance to finally go here (been passing it all week on our way to and from the fields). We both ordered the 8oz sirloin dinner with baked potatoes. Medium rare. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and the baked potatoes fluffy and delicious. Neither one of us was left with that bomb-in-the-gut feeling that sometimes follows a steak dinner. Perfect amount of food on the plate. Our server Jason could not have been more accomodating. He was adorable and wonderful. He was attentitive without being intrusive. The best part of it all? Affordable! Yeah - in your face affordable! After a few mediocre breakfasts at Rickeys that set us back close to $50 each time; a lower than sub-par lunch a few days earlier at Church's that set us back nearly $25; and a less than stellar small pizza w/salad for yet another $30, our $58 dinner (including tip) at Keg was mind-blowingly cheap. The best quality meal we've had all week and one of the cheapest for the value, quality and experience. Okay - it's not five star unfortunately because the food is very underseasoned - the salt and pepper shakers got a hefty workout. (I'm also guessing steak sauce must be an American only thing). All in all, we liked the feel of the place. Bustling, yet enough distance between tables that you can have a private experience. (I'd compare it to a mid-upper steakhouse in Northern Califofrnia.) I live in Bellingham, its over the border from this Keg & I came here with friends because the Keg in b'ham closed, so we made a trip specifically to go here for dinner. Knowing that.. its not a stretch to think I am a big fan of the food they put out, so were the friends I took with me, they live in Calif. and every year when they come to visit we made a point of going to the Keg in B'ham. This Keg however was a great disappointment, the server we had was annoying as could be mixed with clueless and just a touch of bitch. The food was just ok at best, and trust me we ordered UP we had a lot of food to judge it by...lol...., between the 4 of us our check was $200.00 (and none of us drink) so yes, we went for it! I could elaborate but whats the point, the food was not even close to as good as the Keg in Bellingham served, and the server was awful its going to be a cold day in hell before I make a trip again, sad too, since I really loved going to the Keg here. read more

First of all, the service here is fantastic. I wouldn't change a thing about it. My review is solely based on the food. I haven't been to the Keg in a few years because I've never really liked their food but we got a gift card that we needed to use. My boyfriend and I had the scallops & bacon to start. That was probably the star of the night. For my main, I got the Mediterranean cauliflower. It was completely bland. Nothing about it tasted "Mediterranean". It could've been so good if it had some sort of seasoning or sauce. It had a green garbanzo bean hummus drizzled on it so thankfully that helped a little. My boyfriend got the rack of ribs. I didn't try any but they looked super dry. It was served with fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was piping hot lol. He was totally unimpressed. It's super unfortunate that the food seems to be catered to people who don't do well with seasoning. Thank goodness we had a gift card because i 100% would not pay for either of those dishes... with the exception of the scallops.
