Went for a birthday party the other night and it was very quiet. We arrived at 6:30 and it wasn't busy but was mid week and happy hour was over. We had a party of 12 and there were a few hiccups but in the end the food was very good and the two servers were very attentive, patient, friendly and helpful. We could tell they were really trying to ensure we had a great time so no complaints there at all. They were there to check in on us and were always present- being only away for a minute or two at a time. I really don't think I've had that level of service as far as I can remember. There is lots of parking here and it's in a complex with Canadian Tire, Best Buy, etc.. the restaurant itself isn't the most beautiful Keg I've been to but it is clean and it was nice how we were seated by the fireplace. read more

Since Cara Operations/now Recipe Unlimited acquired The Keg in 2018, as a 50+ year attendee of one of my favorite restaurants on the planet, I have noticed it significantly going downhill in the last year. It used to be a cut above the trendy restaurants.....Cactus Club, Milestones, Earls......but, in my humble opinion, it has now become just another trendy restaurant. It started last year when they took whipping cream totally out of their restaurants. And since when has skinny freaking asparagus become a 'thing'. DisGUSTing. They're getting downright stingy with the mushroom portion too. And now the Billy Minor pie also no longer has whipping cream with it. They used to serve THE BEST Monte Cristo coffee, topped with whipping cream and chocolate shavings. I know cause I had one every time I went there for dinner. Their steaks were bar none the highest quality and cooked to perfection. My favorite has always been the Teriyaki marinated 8 oz sirloin. The Keg ALWAYS put customer service first and foremost. It was almost embarrassing to send anything back because there was such a big production made of the incident, but you always knew you could count on their integrity to correct the situation. The last time I ate there IS the last time I'll eat there. No care and attention given to the fact my steak wasn't marinated. Sloppy, incompetent service. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant has changed in the past year. Not as friendly. Bad music!, catering only to the younger crowd. I hate that. Just sad I've lost one of my fave places to eat. Recently, the fiancé and I had dinner at this Keg location to celebrate a birthday. We have always had excellent food and service, and this time was no different. The seating hostess' and waiters all took the time to wish us a Happy Birthday as we were being shown to our seats. Later on we discovered we were the third or fourth group celebrating a birthday...which (I think) says something about the establishment. We started off with our staple Calamari appetizer. Standard portion, recognizable deep fried rings. It was a little on the salty side for me personally, but fiancé loves saltier items so he thought it was delicious. I still cannot tell the different cuts of beef, so I think he chose the Top Sirloin with twice-baked potato while I settled on smaller portion of Steak and Shrimp paired with Cauliflower mash. At first the 6 oz of Top Sirloin steak for me looked a little on the small side, but by the time I finished the appetizer, steak and shrimp I realized it was the right portion for me. I always love going to a steak house like the Keg because I will have the steak cooked to my fancy (medium rare this time), and I liked the cauliflower mash that looked like a carbohydrate side, but I knew it would be a healthier and less filling alternative. It was a good thing too, because I ended up finishing the last third of my beau's twice baked potato. Mushy creamy without being too rich, and (bonus) bacon bits! I do have to begrudgingly admit to his words of "why would you have a baked potato, when you could have a twice baked potato?" Well, when twice baked has bacon bits...that is a very hard argument to counteract. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the Keg graciously offered a complimentary dessert. We took our server, Jay, up on his recommendation and tried the Mile High Chocolate Cake. The grand mariner sauce was sparingly poured onto the cake by our server which resulted in a delicious and rich attack on our taste buds. I confess we did "ruin" the cake a little by pouring the rest of the sauce over the slice which made it too rich for my liking. Next time, leave the pouring to the experts. A special Thank you to our server, Jay, for taking the time to explain the 50th anniversary menu, and offering up his suggestions for dishes he would recommend. In addition, we had numerous gift cards to help pay for our birthday dinner...and the credit card machine did not like that one bit. B and I came back to this Keg the second time. I ordered the 8oz steak and lobster and B got the BBQ full-rack ribs. He had the BBQ ribs at the Keg before and he said it is one of his preferred dish to order because they give extra BBQ sauce on the side for the fries. As the starter, we got the calamari to share. I haven't had calamari in a long time. It was very tasty. I did find the calamari quite greasy. My steak was cooked to perfection. I asked for medium rare. My steak was tasty. The lobster was very tasty as well. We were also served complimentary bread as starters. I asked for the special butter which was the three cheese butter. They have different special butter at different Keg locations. I got one of their signature non-alcoholic drink: Blueberry lemonade. I had the drink before in the past at work events that were held at the Keg and I had no idea what the drink was called. Yes, I would ask the bartender to make me a non-alcoholic drink and that would be the drink that they would serve me. Anyways, I did find the drink kind of bland but it was probably because of too much ice. We came to celebrate B's birthday. So we also got a free dessert with our meal. I picked the Billy Miner cake. I really liked the Keg's Billy Miner cake here. The Billy Miner cake has been very consistent at all The Keg's locations. Overall, food was definitely very tasty. Service was really good. We had a really good birthday celebration here. There are plenty of free parking at The Keg. This location definitely beat the downtown locations. I have to say my experience here was way different than the first time I was here which was a year ago. Definitely a lot of improvement and changes compared to last year. read more

It was OK, but not quite up to expectations. I made a reservation through an app, but apparently the fact that it was a birthday didn't seem to have been communicated. Our server was obviously new and not very confident. We ordered wine to start, and he came back without it saying the bar was busy so there would be a wait. (The restaurant was about one-third full.) I said it shouldn't be too much trouble to hand him a bottle of wine, so maybe he'd like to try again. He did. He then wrote down our order, but forgot my crab cake appetizer. I didn't make a fuss; I just made sure it wasn't on the bill. No complaints about the food, but the service could be improved. read more

We just had the most enjoyable and delicious family dinner with 17 of us served by two very lovely and capable servers who were very attentive to our requests and gave the us a wonderful and timely service. A few times a month I enjoy sitting down and relax to some nice appetizers and a nice steak. I pretty much tried all the steak houses and restaurants serving steaks many times over but at the end, I always come back to the Keg because of its consistency in terms of service and food. Especially this and the Willingdon, Burnaby location. A special note to my previous visit here, my steak was a little overcooked and our waiter notified the kitchen and they immediately corrected it. The head chef/ kitchen manager, Dev, personally came out and apologized, took the overcooked steak away, cooked another steak to perfection and brought it back out to me, and took my filet mignon with lobster tail off the bill ($80). Now that's service and what I am talking about. But in the end I did put the $80 back as tip and an additional 25% tip. I really appreciated for making a dining out experience an actual pleasant dining experience, kudos to our waiter and Dev, the kitchen manager!! Anyways, this time around, here were what we ordered; 1. Shrimp cocktail. Very fresh, good size with a nice little crunch to it. 2. Mushroom neptune. I have tried many many versions of this at different restaurants and have to say the Keg still are on top with this one. Nice flavour and texture, plus the little buns that came with it are good. 3. Calamari. Good size in terms of portion and the calamari pieces. Not overly battered nor over fried, juicy and can taste it properly. 4. French onion soup. Good portion, came screaming hot in a bowl covered with cheese, just the way I like it. 5. Lobster bisque (new item). The taste was pretty good BUT it came lukewarm and could be a bit better. It was simply too simple compared to everything else, it kind of make it fell out of place. Perhaps a bit or a couple small chunks of lobster meat?? 6. Side of mushrooms. I love mushrooms and so far most restaurants just can't do them mushrooms right. A little of work on these little guys. I think this is the one side dish I am not too fond of at the keg and many steak houses. Don't over cook or make them too soggy!!! 6. Filet mignon (7oz) with lobster tail. The filet was a tiny bit powdery maybe cause slightly more cooked then medium rare. Maybe I go back to Mew York steak or bone in rib steak. The lobster tail was good and the mashed potato was decent portion. Overall, as always a very satisfying experience; the service was very professional and attentive from our waiter and the food was pleasing to the mouth. Do I need to say it's a repeat when I have taken friends, family and myself to the Keg at least a hundred times over the years?!? We came to this location on Feb 5 Sunday for my friend's birthday. Granted we did not make a reservation but for a party of two we were put at a corner with a small table and my back was facing the corridor. Severes and diners kept bumping my back. Feb 5 happened to be the last day of the Dine Out event so we opted for that set menu. The New York steak was well done and not medium as ordered. The Prime Rib was cold and the Steak was luke warm and tough to chew. Even the Baked Potatoes were cold. The waitress (Asian girl Anita) was too eager to clear the plates even there was still 1/4 piece of bread in the plate. The only saving grace was the pies. We used to go to the ones in downtown Vancouver with a different ambience and service. Sorry will not visit Surrey again. Poor service and food and not worth the Dine Out value of $55.00 each. read more

Just celebrated a special Birthday here last night. Everything was perfect. Sarah took such good care of us. We started with the Baked Brie Appetizer which was delicious. A nice affordable California Cabernet went nicely. The birthday girl had medium rare prime rib with yummy garlic mashed potatoes. I enjoyed twin Lobster Tails with drawn butter. I didn't care for the rice pilaf and would make another side selection next time. Sarah offered us anything from the dessert menu as a Birthday treat and we throughly enjoyed the Cream Brûlée. This was our first visit to this particular Keg and we can't wait to return. From beginning to end, everything was exceptional and Sarah was a big part of that. We WILL be back! read more

Very quick and friendly guy with great smile. Other then the server, prime rib was available as she made sure we had reservations right at 4, cause everytime we go it's sold out. Thank you for getting her q Billy Miner pie slice got her bday. She was happy. Wish the managers and owner could be more thankful and hard working. Still haven't been back. If management and owner cannot keep their word and just have excuses there's no need of our business welcome nor my followers. The manager/owner? So I emailed her back again and Yelp messaged her the other month and last month and still no reply. The Keg is a safe choice for a steak dinner and kid friendly. We made reservations and were seated on time. Staff had masks on for covid precautions. There was hand sanitizer at the entrance. We all ordered steak and a couple of us ordered drinks. Complimentary bread was served while we waited for our meal to arrive. I had the virgin blended strawberry margarita and it was exactly how I expected it to be - like a strawberry Slurpee. I ordered a filet mignon with fries. Fries were served piping hot and steak was medium rare as requested. My only complaint was that I noticed some of our entrees were served with a slice of grilled tomato. I expected some seasonal mixed veggies and this tomato choice seemed underwhelming. Service was efficient and friendly. The KEG is no longer what it used to be... especially at the prices they charge. No prime rib at 6:30 on a Wednesday night? really? Food was average. The Caesar Salad was described as watery, the ribs were reported to be dry ('we make better ribs at home'), the Sirloin was over cooked but the tenderloin was prepared to order. The lobster gratin that is on their feature menu was just OK. Our bill with dessert and 4 drinks was $250 plus tip. $250 should have bought a better dinner than it did. read more

The food is always spot on...the only one thing I would like to see are more features and a steak appy (like steak bites). The Keg is like the Starbucks of steaks. They get their steaks right, doesn't matter where you eat. The meat cuts are great (given the price in mind). A medium rare is a medium rare, not well done or rare. The service at this particular spot was great! Went their for fathers day dinner and had a great time! They had the three course menu special for $45, which was an excellent value. Parents go the three course menu but I ended up getting the 14oz. prime rib (just to change it up). The prime rib was a great cut and done perfectly medium rare! PRO TIP: for prime ribs, one can always ask for how fatty they want the cut to be! The Margarita was made with harsh tasting mix... . . all it takes to make a great Margarita is limes. Main course was the Prime Rib with the side of gnocchi. The gnocchi was much better than the Prime Rib which was tough, tasteless. This was the 3rd time I've had the same tough/tasteless PR at a Keg in 5 years. My son's 20th birthday and he wanted The Keg. Let's be honest, it's The Keg. I always expect and receive great food here. And it isn't that the food was bad, just the dish I ordered was. I got their new chicken dish, the one stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. Sounds good right? Maybe even DELICIOUS? No, not even close. I NEVER send food back, but I couldn't bring myself to eat it. The chicken itself didn't have much flavor, even the skin was bland. The bacon was soft, not even remotely crispy with the exception of what you see. And the cheese almost invisible. The only good things on the plate were the rice and asparagus puree, which was probably my favorite thing on the entire plate. The only reason I am giving it three stars is because the appies were good, my son's blue cheese crusted steak was to die for, our waitress was adorable and very accommodating, and the manager was very friendly and took my dinner off our bill. Left there with an empty stomach and a feeling of disappointment. Perhaps my fault for straying from what I know. Note to self, don't order chicken somewhere that is famous for steak lol. read more

So all we can really judge them for is service. And service doesn't need to be running on all four cylinders, it just can't cause annoyance or raise an eyebrow. Family night out was going smoothly until... The server who brought out the food "dropped" the plate in front of my mom - result: rice flew. As she placed my sister's plate down the black napkins she used to hold the plate made full contact - both sides - with the food - result: my sister made a disgusted face. Much to the embarrassment of my mother, who is just too conciliatory for her own good, I said something to our server because I had to get it off my chest - otherwise I swear my meal wasn't going to be enjoyable. I of course confirmed that but for the plate slamming and dirty napkin contact, yes, I was otherwise quite happy. Went here two Saturday in-a-row for dine out Vancouver. We ordered Mushroom soup and garlic shrimp as our appetizers, New York Steak and Prime rib as our main courses, Billy Miner pie and cheese cake as our desserts. Mushroom Soup tasted good, not the best I had but definitely above average. Baked garlic shrimp just tasted as good as used to be, my favorite appetizer in the keg as like as cheese toasts. New York Steak was perfect, with twice baked potato just perfect matched. Prime rib tasted above average, just too much fat. Billy Miner Pie is my favorite dessert in town, coffee ice cream with chocolate flavor biscuit base just matching perfectly. Cheese cake came with two different flavor, caramel and chocolate, both tasted good. Serving was excellent, servers there have excellent memory and super friendly attitude. I think our Keg days might be over. Mixed drinks there are not great. This location and our recent visit to the Keg in Kelowna, terrible Mojitos and Martinis. Wine is very overpriced. I had steak and lobster, while the steak was tasty and cooked just right, one lobster tail was really good and fresh, and the other was not great, seemed like it wasn't fresh, had a starting to 'go off' fishy smell to it. My husband told the waiter his steak was a bit tough, he just said oh and walked away. Just feeling like it's becoming so over priced. read more

The food was all good, except the parsnips which were hard as a rock. If they want to serve veggies al dente, they should slice them very thin. The steak and prime rib were tender, and the flavours were all good. The wine list was pretty good, but wine flights would be nice. I still miss the salad bar. read more

I've been to this Keg about 7 times in the last year or so, 3 in the last month. For me it's been an outstanding performer. Was there last nite for my nephews birthday , and everything was great. My baseball sirloin was done to perfection, and lobster tails were just right. It wasn't loud inside, quite nice actually from some branches where I've almost had to yell across the table at my date and vice versa to be heard. Service good, cheery, efficient. Second to last time an error in the bill wasn't noticed until I got home. I called the manager and he was very apologetic, and straightened the error out within two days via a gift card. There are some great, pricey steak houses in Vancouver which I've enjoyed going to,but this one delivers good value and it's not far from home for me. I'll be back for sure. read more

Quality and portion sizes have definitely gone down hill over the last 6 months. Used to look forward to date night, but have opted for going elsewhere in recently. They still do a pretty decent steak (and will re-do it if it's not cooked the way you like), but overall it's meh. Used to be that you could take your time with your evening, enjoy a drink - order - eat the bread - get your salad - then your main.. at a leisurely pace.. last time we were there (beginning of April) the drinks, bread and salad came out within 60 seconds of each other and we'd barely taken 2 bites of the salad before the mains arrived. I came here with the guy I am dating to celebrate our 5th year anniversary. The customer service was good, really good. We arrived shortly after 4 pm when the doors opened, therefore, the service and food was prompt. Thankfully there was no screaming children around. This allowed us to actually have a nice dinner. The decor is just like any other Keg that I've been to. Nice inside, however, no pressure to dress nice. Prices are high, however, you still get really decent steaks. I ordered my normal fillet min. 7 oz. It is one of the most expensive cuts, however, it is the leanest which complies with the weight watchers program. The bacon, however, on the outside was burnt black. Not cajun black but burnt. I've had this cut of steak at other Keg locations and it was not a problem. Thankfully I was in it for the cut, otherwise, for $38 I would've been livid about the burnt bacon. I did let the waitress know as just a heads up. I wasn't looking to have any form of rectification, just awareness. Realistically being one of the first few orders of the day there was no real reason for a burnt bacon edge. The waitress apologized about the bacon thing. I think that certain reviews here need to get their head out of their a$$. Unless you've worked in the service industry do you understand that shit happens. As long as the waitress and the manager apologizes, accept it. There are sadly so many eateries that don't and take their customers for granted. As for the short skit issue.....how has this ever been a problem? If the people working there don't feel objectified let it go. Clearly this review wasn't written by a man 'cause I wished our waitress wore a short skirt. Gives the guy I am dating some eye candy since I won't wear one. I did notice that they've really been skimpy on the veggies. They now only serve you approx 3 oz instead of the 5 oz of veggies. They used to give you nice cuts of veggies and know they just grill basic veggies and then charge you $3 something for a side. I know that the economy is touch and so is the cost of living, however, there are margins and then there is being a bit pretentious. P.S. The twice baked potato was amazing. read more

Nice place, I go with the wife few times a year and I love the appetizers speedily the salads and off course the main course (steaks). If you want to eat checkin then go to a Greek restaurant but if you want a steak then you are in the right place. read more
