THE BARTENDER CALLED ME A MONKEY September 5, 2009: The night before labor day. It was a simple misunderstanding, but the reaction of the bartender was absolutely uncalled for. He declared his racial epithets with such passion and confidence that I can only assume he's either worked there for a very long time or is a relative of the owner. He was in his early to mid-twenties, blond hair, Caucasian. My girlfriend had ordered a round on her credit card and he mentioned that there is a $30 minimum tab in order to do that. Now, I happen to work in the Credit Card Processing industry and I know for a fact that it is against their regulations to enforce a minimum purchase order. But I also know that it's not uncommon for businesses to do that so I normally let that stuff slide. I went to the bar to see how close we were to our minimum order because I WAS GOING TO ORDER A ROUND OF SHOTS so we can all leave. "How close are we to the minimum tab?" I asked. "You're pretty close, it's no big deal." He replied with a shrug. Based on that, I figured he was simply going to charge us the "pretty close to $30" order that we purchased. I chose not to get the round and we finished our drinks and tried to close out. He then tries to give us a $30 bill for the four drinks we ordered. I raised an eyebrow and asked how much are domestic and imported beers? "I told you there was a minimum order!" He shouted. Now I'm thinking he's just trying to skim extra money off the top and I get upset. "First of all, you know that this minimum order is against V/MC regulations, right?" And he flips his lid. "That's it! You know what?" He says. "The drinks are on me you f***ing monkey. Now get the f*** out of here before I knock your teeth in." I look around to see if anyone else heard this horrid comment only to realize I'm the darkest person in a bar among some pretty scary looking dudes. So I took my girlfriend and we left. I'm not even black. I'm a dark Sicilian. I've been called racist things before because of my complexion but never at a place of business and certainly not by an employee. So if you want good flavored wings with a small dose of ignorance and bigotry, make sure you stop by The Kettle Black and let that bartender know what you think. read more

I recently visited The Kettle Black and had an awesome experience! The food was absolutely delicious, with the wings being a standout - perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. The drinks were another highlight, both strong and worth every penny. The atmosphere is fantastic, especially if you're a sports fan. Big screens everywhere, creating the perfect setting to catch a game with friends. All in all, it's a great spot for good food, strong drinks, and a lively, sports-centered vibe. Very disappointing bar with very little space and overpriced beers. Also the food is mediocre and the staff has a major attitude problem. I stopped by with a crew of 6 people and we were all bored within an hour. There are much better bars in Bay Ridge than this. Also why do alot of 40 year old drunks seem to always hang out here? The crowd here is Guidos and Guidettes as many other reviewers have pointed out. Maybe they can film another season of "Growing Up Gotti" here it's the perfect location. read more

I wish I could give half a star or even a quarter of a star. This place is horrible you go there their food is shit and their service is shit. I went there for a drink late at night and I was told that I need to have my money out of my wallet ready to go which is bullshit because I've seen girls take out their wallet with money and it's no problem so this place is sexist stupid and definitely not worth going to. whatever you do avoid this place on Staten Island it is horrible. What can I say about the worst bar in Bay Ridge. You will love it here if you have a blowout or your a stereotypical Long Island girl. Also It helps if you act douchey and wear shirts that are shiny. The DJ is garbage and plays best of the 80's compilations all night. It is If you want a good bar in Bay Ridge go to: Wicked Monk, Cebu, or Kitty Kiernans. The Kettle Black serves up some seriously delicious burgers! The beef is juicy, cooked to perfection, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. I particularly loved the house-made sauces that give an extra kick. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting too. My only complaint was a slightly longer wait time during peak hours, but overall, it's definitely worth a visit. A great choice for any burger lover! read more

Most racist and degrading place I've been to in my life , 95% of the people there were sweaty and greasy men ...groping and staring at women like meat . The owner used his hands to grab ice and put in customers drinks , blew his nose three times and never washed, spit twice in a bucket by the bar . Waiters are very rude as well. Was waiting for a table at Hobrah and was guided to this bar to grab a drink while we did. i love the staff and i loved the atmosphere! on a saturday afternoon it was busy but we did not go unnoticed in this large place! we got 3 beers and some great conversations with 2 waitresses and the bartender. will def be coming back for a night out drinking (and i was told the wings are amazing) read more

Best Wings in Brooklyn!!! Simply put, the best wings on the planet. The standard by which all other wings should be judged. Yes, you have to wait for them. Yes, it would be wonderful if they had a bigger shop and could put more wings out faster. I suspect that will come in time ..,, or maybe not. But long waits will not dissuade those who seek wing perfection. read more

This bar is a complete and utter waste of time. The crowd that goes here is really lame and the service here is terrible. The drinks are very overpriced and the atmosphere is very lackluster. If you just want to have a beer and leave then your ok. If you want a fun place to hang with your friends then look elsewhere. read more

The owner Chris is a power-hungry hot head. Very disrespectful to my wife and I. Seen him drunk off his face chasing underage girls probably likeeee daaaaaaaa You ain't so suppose to be drunk on the job. He is not a gentleman at all and has no courtesy. The .69 cent wings are literally the best deal, but make sure to call and make reservations because we waited around 30mins to be seated. The wings were really good with different flavors and we also got mixed alcohol drinks which were good and not too pricy. Definitely would recommend this spot! read more

I placed an order for delivery and it never came. When I called the restaurant the woman who answered the phone wasn't even apologetic. She just said "oh drivers are backed up". I guess they're so backed up orders never arrive. Shameful. read more
