Ordered take out. We had breakfast here last Sunday and aside from the lack of customer service, i wanted to give it another try. My daughter ordered the meatloaf, I ordered the spaghetti and my husband had an biscuits-n-gravy and French toast. My husband liked the French toast. No powdered sugar. It was just basic. The gravy tasted like it was out of a can, very peppery and ehh. Meatloaf was loaded with grease. My daughter couldn't finish it because it was marinating in grease. But she loved the Mac-n-cheese. If you are craving a good home cooked spaghetti and meat sauce meal, this is not it! Could be that they used a canned tomato paste type sauce with meat already in it. The dish honestly tasted like the sauce served with canned ravioli with meat sauce. My husband made a comment on the smell. It's just not good. A jar of prego poured over noodles would have received a better rating from me. I've learned my lesson... I'll just stick to ordering breakfast. read more

The Kettle serves up high quality, quintessentially American food at very inexpensive prices. We enjoyed our lunches of chicken-fried steak and pork chops. The chicken-fried steak was tender and lightly breaded and accompanied by a delectable white gravy. The freshly-made mashed potatoes were very well done and came with brown gravy and a side of coleslaw. The generously portioned pork chops were nicely done as well, also coming with mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans. We didn't have any room left for dessert but the bakery items sure looked very tasty. Mike provided attentive service throughout our visit. Easy to find parking. Got seated very quickly, waitress asked us what we wanted to drink as soon as we sat in our booths. Food came out SUPER quickly which makes me hesitant.. how much of it is actually "cooked". Had the eggs Benedict which were SUPER watery, the hollandaise sauce was not good at all, tasted like something they have in a jar refrigerated for days on days. I used to enjoy this restaurant. Decided to give it a try post hurricane renovations. I stood at the front for 10 mins waiting to be greeted. 4 different employees walked by me with out saying anything including management. I was the only person at the front waiting and I was a table for one. I left disappointed. Horrible Customer service is the reason for this review. The kids love the silver dollar pancakes and my huaband and I love the Belgium waffles. They make everything exactly the way you want every time! Went to the Kettle for mother's day with my girl. Apparently they were taking reservations for that day only. Preferred customers seem to have been told and everyone else had little chance of getting a table. It was a dirty thing that they did to make sure that regulars were preferred to new customers. I have eaten there a few times in the last couple of weeks and was planning on becoming a regular until this happened. No mention on facebook, their board in front of the restaurant or nothing. This place is small and quaint. It's pretty crowed here, which probably is a good thing. The employees here are very friendly, nice, and always in motion. The mozzarella sticks were pretty good. We didn't even meet our server until 15 minutes after we ordered where she was asking if we met her yet. Three of us dropped into the Kettle in the wee hours to take advantage of this 24-hour eatery. The Kettle had quite a crowd between 2am and 3pm and police presence was prominent, hence my recommendation that this is not a good place for children. My dining companions, who had both eaten there before reported that the Kettle is no stranger to rowdy behavior. Although the place was packed, we received fairly prompt service. Breakfast is always available but we opted for sandwiches. I had the French dip sandwich with fries, the other two opted for the patty melt and Philly cheesteak, both with fries. This was a satisfying late night sandwich. I would really prefer a nice crusty bread, but mediocre bread is pretty much a hallmark of the American south at all levels of dining. The roast beef was plentiful and tender. Often the au jus provided for dipping the sandwich is overly salty, but this was not. The fries were good, standard diner fries. My dining mates expressed similar satisfaction with their meals. The menu of the Kettle is full of the standards you would expect to see on a diner menu; there are no attempts to be fancy or sophisticated here. Prices are reasonable. We each paid $6.99 for a good sandwich and fries. I look forward to going back to the Kettle for another meal. read more

Seated fast, otherwise bad service. Food was bad, ordered a cup of soup with the pork chops. They old man in the booth next to me was having the clam chowder, when I asked what kinds of soup there were I was told there was only beef vegetable or something, hmmmm. Milkshake was basically whole milk with chocolate syrup mixed in the blender. Ruben was on what may have been white bread, but it did not seem like it was on Rye. Oh and the soup never came. Aside from the food there were a lot of little kids running around and at one point I looked at my wife and she asked if we were eating at a day care. Apparently they were having 50's night as well, which was not advertised other than the decorations. Don't order the "fresh fruit" unless you want a bowl of moldy fruit. I ordered fruit to share with my 2 year old and it came with moldy strawberries. I luckily don't have a penicillin allergy but I am 19 weeks pregnant. Showed my waitress and she took the bowl of fruit away and brought me another that I was hesitant to eat at that point as I imagine it came from the same container. When I asked about having it removed from our ticket she came back with my receipt and a measly 45 cent reduction! Like seriously?! YOU SERVED ME MOLDY FRUIT AND EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR IT? Went to the counter to pay and the woman there asked if there was an issue with the fruit and I explained there most definitely was and she had it removed completely. I'm giving 2 stars because I've been here twice previously and throughly enjoyed my food and service. Special note to our waitress "Jersey": what little tip you received from me today was because your hostess handled the situation for you and I didn't feel good about her getting stiffed because you provided us with awful service. This may be because I am partial to diners in general, but also because this one is the real deal. The crowd is well mixed featuring every demographic. And simply, I love their waitstaff. The waitresses are fun and witty, down to earth folks. I'm into that. Then there's the food. I haven't been disappointed yet. The Monte Cristo sandwich sounds weird, but get it.
