The price is reasonable, we ordered 9 dishes, 1 deserve, a drink or two and it is around $250 for 3 persons with some left over. Not to sound Bougie but we are kind of Bougie when it comes to food. We typically eat at Michelin quality restaurants and have a rather sophisticated pallet. That said... get the CARROTS... don't as questions, JUST GET THEM! I'm not even a fan of carrots and only got them because they were mentioned so many times on Yelp! But I couldn't have been more surprised. We also got the Ragatoni, the Bone Marrow lamb tacos, and the Kansas Strip steak! Everything was SO phenomenal. We were so excited to have Thanksgiving dinner at The Kitchen. The vegetarian entree, the Autumn Pot Pie was described as root vegetables with phyllo . It was unseasoned turnips with some shreds of burnt phyllo on the top. The sides were good, but brought with no Serving spoons. And our drinks ordered came halfway through the meal. Our party of two could only muster 2 bites of the autumn pie. The server picked up the uneaten plates and said yes they had been getting complaints, and basically shrugged his shoulders. The cod was rubbery and tasteless, the focaccia for the burrata was burnt to a crisp and the carrots with feta keeps shrinking to the point where it will be non existent soon. The cabbage was soggy mush. I'm all for doing single vegetable dishes but when you're charging $12-15 for a side knock it out of the park. Not a time to skimp more. The service was rough because our server was stretched very thin and he did a proficient job the vibe just felt very cold and deadpan. I just really had hoped this place would continue to have a quality standard and some kind of soul to it like it used to have but I'm afraid that's disappearing along with many restaurants in Boulder. Had dinner on a weeknight with my girlfriend and my cousin, who lives in town and recommended this place. There was good communication from the reservation team as our party arrived separately. We were seated in a beautiful, warm and cozy space in the main dining room. We were able to carry on with our conversation without shouting when near capacity, which is rare with modern restaurant decors. The food was beautifully presented and delicious, innovative and creative with ingredients and techniques, served by warm and friendly staff. Thai cucumbers - good overall but a bit too acidy for my taste, my husband adored it though Jimmy red corn grits - here the most interesting comes, I ordered it twice the same day. If you are in mood for a hearty, not spicy, tender, solid combo of grits, asparagus, bacon and a pouched egg together on a chilly CO night - it's for you. The best grits in my life. Seriously the quality of the food is amazing. You can always tell when ingredients are fresh and the food is all made in-house. We had the lobster roll and the quiche and I could not decide which one I loved more. They were both flavorful, fresh and super delicious. The quiche was the lightest and fluffiest I have ever had. The crust was beautiful flaky layers of pastry. The lobster roll is often dictated by the bread and they know how to do it right. The service is always fantastic. Every food item is impeccable. Why a 4 star then, and not a 5? The staff is not very welcoming. There is a pretentious vibe. So much so that we opted not to order entrées and and went to a different restaurant after having appetizers and desserts here. The food is so good that I will definitely be back. But the staff was so unwelcoming that it does make me stop for a second and think how much Im willing to trade environment for food. To me, it's always amazing when you get both. I was in Boulder (I live in south Florida and my colleagues are from Dallas) for an event with our non profit and decided to explore Pearl Street a bit. The Kitchen came highly recommended by the staff at the Marriott Boulder so we decided to give it a try for lunch. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table to open up but it was definitely worth the wait. I had the lobster roll and my colleagues each got the burger with an extra side of truffle fries. Let me repeat-the truffle fries-outstanding! WOW! The lobster roll was generous and classic, the burger done at a PERFECT medium rare (THANK YOU FOR NAILING THAT). The presentation was wonderful, our server was the perfect balance of friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and witty. She made a couple of great suggestions from the wine list and our overall experience was fabulous. The Kitchen is overrated and I don't get the hype. Besides its warm atmosphere, cozy seating, and interesting concept, the best thing on the menu is their water. My colleagues and I met up for a midweek lunch outing. We ordered 1 of every appetizer to share, but if you're lactose intolerant, vegan, or just not a fan of meat, your options are grossly limited. Everyone at the table seemed to be enjoying the apps to some degree, while some apps were only picked at; the carrots were a crowd favorite, though. For the main meal, I ordered the baby lettuces. Not a fan. I couldn't pinpoint it, but something -- the dressing maybe? -- caused a rather distracting taste. It was quite overwhelming, a bit on the bitter-lemon side but not distinctly lemon. While apps were brought out, our drinks made their way to the table. Well, all of them but mine. Midway through my salad, I asked the waitress if she had an ETA on the lemon yes I ordered. Lemon, no. She forgot to add it so it wasn't made. The other orders of lemon yes and banshee's treehouse arrived in a timely manner, but mine... nowhere in sight, sadly. The waitress apologized profusely, which I told her it's no big deal. I had water so I wasn't super parched, just wanted to try the drink. Moments later, someone else brought my drink out. What a mistake. Someone else at the table ordered the same drink and seemed repulsed by the taste, even resorting to watering it down. Once I got my drink, I, too, experienced great trauma. It kicks you in the throat worse than a shot of vodka. Unless the lavender, chamomile, or ambiguous "soda" is the culprit, there's no logical explanation for the taste. I tried diluting it with water as well. Nothing helped. Since I waited a long time for my drink, I took cautious sips to make it "worth it." Overall, some of the food tasted good (based on what folks expressed during the meal), but I left still very hungry. I stopped at a fast food place on my way home. That meal was very satisfying. Service could be a lot better and the staff could be more attentive. This was my first time going to The Kitchen, and most likely my last. Maybe my tastebuds just aren't bougie enough. read more

We started with craft cocktails, mine was a bourbon, rhubarb drink, my husband's was gin and cucumber both were really well prepared. Our first choice was the elote bowl of corn and tomatoes in a lime dressing, it was so good. The next choice was roasted carrots on whipped feta, a must. They are crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside.There's a citrus aioli that I had with the fries that is amazing. We also tried their grilled oysters for the first time. Fantastic! I can say I would not revisit this restaurant. We chose the kitchen over a couple of other restaurants we KNEW we liked (Jill's bistro being the main one) because we wanted to try something new. I was sold on the meal I found on the restaurants website (not a third party website). It was the steak with chimicurri sauce AND roasted garlic potatoes. We get there and potatoes aren't on the menu there. I asked the waitress if this $62.00 steak came with any sides and she simply said, "no, they quit doing sides for that." Okay? I really don't want to eat a whole plate of just steak. No veggies, no starch. Just a steak? How weird...the prices were super high for what you got: the drinks were crazy expensive too. I ended up getting the steak with spinach and romesco sauce. The steak was cooked good (waitress said is medium good and I said I like medium rare and she told me it would be chewy so I went with medium) the romesco sauce had an anise flavor to it which I HATE and would have asked for that removed if I knew anise was included. My husband got the double pork chop and it was a large helping, thank god at the price they charge but he felt it was a tad undercooked and said it would be perfect as left overs smoked for a couple minutes. I'm sure more people enjoy the food than I disliked it but that's my two cents. I wouldn't go back. I'm would however get the cheesecake to go. That was amazing! read more

Crab Fried Rice-nice tasty dish but had more peanuts than crab. Small plate. Carrots-IDK how else describe this but AMAZING!! They were roasted with an amazing sauce and served over creamy feta. Best thing I tasted! Savory Donuts-meh. Mottled Clouds-a rum cocktail with cucumbers. Sounded better than it tasted but I love a good craft cocktail. I want to start this review by saying my husband and I have been regular patrons of The Kitchen for many years now, and we were really looking forward to a nice Valentine's Day date night. It was one of our favorite restaurants in Boulder! There was a 5 course preset menu for $99.50 per person on offer. Our reservation was for 8:45 pm. When we arrived at 8:40, we were informed that they were running behind by around 30 minutes, but could head Upstairs and hopefully find a seat at the bar to wait for our table. Okay, not a problem - I'm sure they're busy. We head to Upstairs and the hostess basically laughs - they're clearly full. She said we could stand and get a drink. Thankfully she ended up bringing us barstools and setting them up along a back wall. At that point, a manager came and comped us each a drink for the trouble. By 9:30, we had yet to be seated. Eventually, the manager was able to get us two seats at a communal table Upstairs, when we had originally had reservations downstairs at The Kitchen. We were at the restaurant until 11:45 PM. They ran out of one of their courses and had to substitute something new entirely. They missed bringing us another entire course and we had to ask for it later. While the food tasted good, it came out at variable/inappropriate temperatures and the portions we laughable for the cost (each plate should have been worth approx. $20) - for example, I got 2 small bay scallops as my entree course, a raw fish dish had 5 nickel sized bites, and a carrot dish came out with maybe 2 bites with a smear of yogurt in total equaling the size of a single baby carrot. We had to ask multiple times if food was coming out because of the long waits between courses (often 30 minutes or longer). Ultimately, we had them pack desserts to go. They tried to charge us for our meal - I ended up expressing my disappointment and frustration to the manager and they ended up waiving the check (thankfully; maybe their only saving grace). We saw them do this for multiple other tables. When I asked if they would be compensating the servers on lost tips for comped checks, they said no, so we of course tipped our server out in cash. The poor staff was there multiple hours after closing time, along with all of the tired, hungry, and frustrated patrons. By the time we left at 11:45, there were still at least 15 other people still waiting on their food in the restaurant. It was a disaster of a night. I'm not sure if we will ever be able to bring ourselves to go back. They certainly did their best to try and ruin our Valentine's Day. read more
