We decided to tackle the kitchen project this year and beginning in January began the search for reputable contractors. This is our second experience with the K Doctor team. They replaced a vanity in one our bathrooms. It is an awkward shape and with their skill it fits perfectly. With their direction I was able to find a remnant piece of quartz that matches our kitchen that they remodeled 2 years ago. From an 1994 track build vanity to a custom vanity with a lower drawer, a corner section with shelves and the typical 2 door opening where the plumbing goes. No wasted space. I love that we are free to choose the sink, faucet and mirrored cabinet to fit our taste and budget. Whatever you choose the team installs it exactly as you want and leaves every thing clean and neat when they leave. Wife and I felt really comfortable with the team and they routinely went the extra mile. He makes the kitchen cabinets in his shop in Santee and can customize them however you want. The look great and are of high quality. You can see from the before and after pictures how awesome the kitchen turned out. They also installed recessed lighting and flooring in the family room, living room and bathrooms. The also tiled the fireplace and made a custom mantle to cover the red brick. Our kitchen cabinets needed some serious updating so I tried to keep my options open and looked at stock cabinets (like Ikea), refacing, and full on new custom build. There were so many options, and such a wide range of pricing. I talked to about a dozen or so companies, and had three out to look at my kitchen in person. But, of all the companies I talked to, the guys at Kitchen Doctor really stood out. Bill (sales) was really direct, and was clear on options, pricing, pros and cons. Within 90 minutes we had narrowed down options sufficiently to start talking pricing and timing, and we generally agreed on how the new cabinets would be arranged. A week later, Robert (one of the owners) and Bill came back out, and we worked out the details, and approved to construction. My wife and I visited their manufacturing facility, and got to see the quality of their construction. Robert was also very helpful in making appliance and accessory decisions, and has been great to work with. We were all set to get the kitchen done by Christmas, but we had an urgency come up and had to postpone. Robert and team were great to work with, and readily rescheduled to meet our new timeline. Demolition was completed January 4, 2023. Kevin and crew were fast, efficient, and clean. As soon as the old was out, this same team started putting the new cabinets in. As of January 6, 2023, the cabinets are 60% in, and look wonderful!! I will keep updating this as we progress, and will add some pictures. We decided to update our kitchen. We pretty much knew what we wanted done. After getting estimates from a number of different companies (Some that advertise heavily to some we'd never heard of) we decided to go with The Kitchen Doctor, a local east county company. We visited their facilities, examined the custom cabinets they were making and finishing for other jobs, and liked what we saw. They will custom make whatever you want. We had a picture of a "key cabinet" that we liked, they looked at it, said Ya, we can do that... (BTW It turned out great). First a few thoughts... Take time to do your homework.... It's was amazing to see the wide range of price quotes for virtually the same work AND a wide range of time necessary to do the job. PLAN AHEAD! Know what YOU need to supply (sink, faucet, appliances, floor tile etc.) and order them well in advance, so they are there when they are needed. After you decide on your counter top, decide on your backsplash and order it too. This will make things go smoothly without unexpected delays and glitches. ...and a money saving "tip"... shop for door/drawer handles and pulls on Amazon Prime. The savings over buying them locally is huge. Robert isn't going to be there to hold your hand each day, he has a good crew that have worked together for over a decade, he has faith in their work... you can too. BUT having said that, whenever I ever felt the need to contact Robert, he never failed to answer a text message, usually immediately with a follow up call if necessary. Start to finish our kitchen took just over 6 weeks (about as quick as you're gonna find anywhere) and almost 2 of that were waiting for the granite counter top fabrication. There was one (minor) glitch in the whole process and that was attended to quickly and thoroughly. Would we contract with Kitchen Doctor again? ...Ya, we would. We were frustrated with expensive remodeling showrooms telling us what we needed, with 3 lines to pick from that are made back East. KD builds their own cabinets. Robert was great to work with. We sat down and told him what we wanted. He suggested design alternatives and made the whole process easy. We gave him our measurements and he calculated an estimate on the spot...at a price very favorable compared to showroom stores. Installation even started earlier than expected. Keith and Jose took care of every detail, resulting in a smooth installation that looks great. We heard about all the stress and trauma involved with a kitchen remodel. Our experience was the opposite. When I could not reach Robert by phone, he returned our messages promptly. There were no surprises, no change to budget. This review is based upon an estimate I had from The Kitchen Doctor & not any work they did for me. I scheduled an in-home estimate with Bill last week (08/24/15) for a kitchen remodel. I wanted to like this place because I like supporting local businesses. Well first of all, Bill was 15 minutes late & didn't call or offer an apology for his late arrival. In this day & age, it's easy to call using a cell phone; it's not like he had to go looking for a pay phone. Then Bill, who is in the business of giving estimates, actually forgot his tape measure! Are you kidding me??? Not only should he have a tape measure hooked onto his belt, he should have a spare one in his car. I let him use my dinky tape measure, in case he forgot to return it before leaving. That would be the equivalent of a plumber forgetting his wrench; a baseball player forgetting his glove; a chef forgetting his knife - you get the picture. Next, every time Bill asked me what I wanted, I would start telling him & he'd interrupt me. Then he would ask me again & again, I would get cut off. When I told him that I didn't want granite, he insisted I get granite & that he'd take me to his granite guy to pick out my countertops. Bill was not listening to me. When it came time to get the written estimate, we sat down at the dining table & Bill kept getting up to measure the same section of cabinets like three or four times. Not sure what was happening there. Then he actually had the nerve to ask me, "So what did you want to do in that corner?" For at least the third time, I told him I wanted to put in a tall pantry. Bill then got up to measure AGAIN. I get the concept of measure twice, cut once but for some reason, he couldn't keep his measurements straight. Plus, he wasn't even cutting anything! The estimate was written on graph paper (no drawings of my kitchen space) & the estimate was outrageously high. My kitchen is a galley style that measures 10'×6' - it's not a big space by any means. The topper to all this is that Bill assured me I would be calling him back. He also said they have perfect Yelp reviews. After he left, I checked the Yelp reviews & there are only four of them & the most recent one was over a year old! The Kitchen Doctor may do good custom cabinet work but then again, if they did do great work, wouldn't there be more reviews? read more

My mom needed help redoing her kitchen and bathroom. Her landlord actually offered to pay for everything. So I called these guys and spoke with Robert over the phone. He was very informative on what he could and could not do. Also to give the most accurate estimate he needed to an in house consultation. We schedule the appointment and came out on time. The estimate was very reasonable and we were looking forward to the work. Unfortunately last minute, the landlord decided to use his own company which was super upsetting because we really liked the service thus far. These guys are awesome. I had quotes from a couple of cabinet makers for our bedroom bath and laundry room remodel. ProSource in particular was a joke... wanting to charge nearly double for way less customization. These guys did painted cabinets for us including a custom entertainment center, wardrobes, and cigar humidor, not to mention a laundry room with elevated washer and dryer. The fit and finish was damn near perfect and the paint impeccable. They were very patient, executed everything perfectly, and made minor adjustments without any complaint. I own a Contracting Company and I wish all of my employees were as good as these guys and I wish all of my customers were as happy as I am. I couldn't recommend them more highly. The kitchen doctor recently finished refacing all of our existing cabinets and drawers. Working with Robert, Keith, and Jose was a fantastic experience. I have done a fair amount of construction projects and this project went smoother than anything I have ever experienced before. In addition to refacing, modifications had to be made for the new double oven, refrigerators, and stovetop. They had to build an entire new frame for the refrigerators. I had a bad experience similar to a few other reviewers. Bill came to my house, was on time but kind of rude. He said he would have to come back with a construction guy to look at what we wanted done which he did. At one point he said something like, you know this is going to cost a lot of money, are you ready for that? As I described my design ideas he was very negative and condescending and even said, "wow, you must have lot of money". The construction guy he brought out was very nice and professional, wish I would have gotten his card! So after two visits, taking measurements and talking through the plan I never heard back from Bill. No estimate. Not a word and it's been about a month now. Not that I'd want him in my house again! We obviously have moved on and found a contractor who wants to work with us and is pleasant to have in our home. We could not be happier with our kitchen remodel! I have heard so many horror stories about contractors- they don't show up, they don't follow through, I was prepared for the worst. I also did my homework- I had good questions for each company I interviewed, and only talked to companies who were recommended by friends. From the beginning, these guys were super professional and responsive. Renovating a kitchen is no small task and I was happy they didn't find a family of Hungarians living behind our very old cabinets. Every single one of the guys who came through our house knew what they were doing, were respectful, and had incredible attention to detail. We did not change any walls or add any windows, but we did a total overhaul of the kitchen and the Kitchen Doctor produced beautiful custom cabinets with amazing workmanship. Their electrician, flooring installer and cabinet installers were nice men and worked diligently. Robert kept in touch constantly and kept us up to speed on timing. The team started a week earlier than expected and finished a week earlier than expected. During the 5 week process, work flowed smoothly.
