Friends of the restaurant management - go ahead and leave your 4/5 star reviews to support them. Regular folks who DON'T know restaurant management here: definitely go somewhere else, unless you want to experience any of the following: 1. Hunger 2. Bad service 3. Waiters just talking amongst themselves 4. Frustration 5. Waiters who don't know how to do their jobs They are not hurting for business and they don't give a crap about you. You can see from 2 attached photos: - food order was entered in at 6:12 - we asked for the check at 7:02 due to ONE dish coming out in 50 mins (meanwhile dishes were coming out to other tables around us), told them to cancel the rest Waiters didn't make any eye contact or even check up on us. Sooo...if you're into that kind of abuse, I guess you can eat here. (Restaurant, pls come for me if you want. I bringeth the actual receipts attached with your own timestamps.)

Decided to try take out dim sum instead of dining there. Called in an order on a Sunday and was told 30 mins. When I got there it was ready. Tough to find parking so if you have a teammate who can drive you, it makes it easier. All the dim sum items like tripe, har gow, fried taro, chicken feet were warm and takes great. The beef chow fun was so so, not that much beef, though still tasty.

My boyfriend picked this spot to have late dinner after I picked him up from SFO. I've been to the Kitchen once a very long time ago with my family, but I don't remember it much. I do like how they open so late. If you're craving Chinese food late at night, then this would be the place to go. I think we got there about 10:15pm on a Sunday night. We were seated right away. At that time, there were probably three tables there. We looked for the menu and waited. After waiting for quite some time, I waved at an employee to get their attention so that we can order. We ordered three dishes - Eggplant something, Fried Rice, and Mongolian Beef. All were pretty tasty. I liked tea that was given to us. It was pleasant and fragrant. The place was pretty nice looking. I don't like the constant smell of cigarette smoke because either the customers or employees were smoking right outside the place.

Coming back to a consistently great restaurant. I would highly recommend that one comes before 6pm if you don't want to experience a long wait. Tonight's fantastic meal consisted of brisket and daikon in clear broth, roast goose and pea leaf with garlic. The brisket with daikon is one of my favorites when the restaurant has it on their menu. I don't think I've ever ordered it anywhere that has it on their menu that did a bad job on this dish. I've never ordered goose because I it prepared badly when I had it ages ago in Hong Kong, well I guess they never prepared it right, I'm growing very fond of roast goose. The final dish was a vegetable dish which was pea leaf saute in garlic, nothing wrong with that.

Livelier and louder than your average Chinese restaurant, but that is easy to overlook given how tasty the food is. The dishes are packed with flavor and full of wok hei. The space is relatively small, and they fit in as many tables as possible, which makes it a bit of a maze getting to and from your table. I highly recommend coming with a group of family or friends so you can try more of the family-style dishes and make a reservation. Some of my favorites were the salted egg yolk shrimp, squab, pea shoots, and pig stomach.

We really wanted to like this place since it's such a Millbrae staple and everyone seems to recommend it, but our experience was pretty disappointing. We're staying at a hotel nearby and decided to drop in for dinner, big mistake. First off, the wait was over an hour. For an "old establishment" that's always packed, you'd expect the food to justify the time, but it just didn't. The prices here are sky-high for what you get. Most dishes are over $22, which is wild considering you can find the exact same quality in LA for about $12. The food itself was mediocre at best. We actually had to send the snow pea sprouts back because they were so tough and woody they were basically unchewable. When you're paying premium prices, you expect the kitchen to at least pick through the veggies. To top it off, parking is a total nightmare. Between the hour-long wait, the mid food, and the high bill, it's just not worth the hassle. There are definitely better ways to spend your time and money in Millbrae.

Great service. Always full house on Saturday & Sunday . You can make reservation if you have table of eight or more. If you don't have a reservation, then you should arrive like 5:30 pm or before 6:00 pm . Tonight I was lucky enough to be able to order the large clay pot of soup . It as all sold out past 3 times I visited .

Be prepared for an Obstacle Course! This place is pure chaos. No reservations for small parties, crowded waiting area, people hovering around tables like vultures, and somehow random customers trying to seat themselves before their number is called. We were quoted 20 minutes and ended up waiting almost an hour until I finally asked the host what was going on. If you come here, pay attention or you absolutely can get skipped. The dining room itself looks modern and fairly clean, but it is LOUD. Not energetic loud. Full on yelling across the table loud. The bathroom was also rough enough that I decided to just hold it until I got home. Service is fast but blunt. Every guy is "boss," every woman is "pretty girl," and you better know your order before waving someone down because patience is not on the menu. Thankfully, the kitchen completely delivered. The Black Truffle Roast Duck was the standout for me. Crispy skin, juicy meat, and actual truffle slices instead of fake truffle oil flavor. Easily one of the better roast duck dishes I've had recently. The Wasabi Chicken with Pork Stomach sounded bizarre but ended up being one of the best dishes of the night. The pork stomach had a jellyfish like texture, and the wasabi gave the whole dish a sharp kick without overpowering the chicken. The Yam Leaves with Garlic and Ginger were simple but perfectly cooked and super fresh. The Peking Spare Ribs stayed crispy even under the sweet sticky sauce, which impressed me. The Crispy Skin Roast Pork Belly had insanely crunchy skin and deep five spice flavor throughout. Honestly, this place feels completely out of control and a bit overwhelming, but the food is good enough that I'd still come back. Just arrive early, expect chaos, and keep your eyes on the waiting list at all times. If rating on just food, it's a 5/5. With the bathroom situation and noise factor, I had to deduct two stars.

We came here on New Year's Day for dinner and luckily we made reservations for 5:30pm because the restaurant was packed with a line out the door! The food is excellent as always and even though it was super busy, the service was great! Love the energy of some of the servers! They were lively, super patient, and super helpful!

Came out here to celebrate a friend's birthday, we had reservations already and you could tell it was a popular place, the place was already packed with people waiting to be seated, and there were about 20ish people waiting next. It's your typical Chinese-style restaurant with items to choose from or family set meals, we went with a variety of items picked from the menu, I was unable to take all of the photos since we had a hungry crowd but the food came out fairly quick and tasted good. My favorite would have to be the Salted egg yolk deep fried crab, as that's always a huge hit. I also enjoyed the Crispy Ham Hock, it was tender, crunchy, and the dipping sauce made it all come together. The geoduck we had was alright, had it better but also had it worse in other places, the duck came out pretty well. I wish I had taken a photo of the steamed fish we had because I also thought that was delicious! They also served us about 3 different types of desserts, with the mango pudding being the go-to! All and all, it's a great place to grab some Chinese food if you're in the area, I'd recommend getting reservations!

I used to love The Kitchen, but after returning for the first time in nearly a decade, I was shocked by the decline. It's a complete 180. The food is now overpriced, salty, overcooked and MSG-heavy with tiny portions that don't justify the cost. The dining room is chaotic and cramped, and the restrooms were disgusting. Beyond the food, the service was bizarre and felt discriminatory. We were lied to multiple times by different waiters about something as simple as complimentary peanuts, yet we saw every other table receiving them. It felt like the staff was judging us based on our appearance. The service is clearly "cliquey" and favors friends of the management. To make matters worse, the manager followed me into the restroom in a way that felt hostile and targeted. As a Vietnamese customer in a Chinese restaurant, I felt highly unwelcome. Between the rude staff, the nightmare parking, and the large non-service dog allowed inside, this place is riding on a reputation it no longer deserves. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Checked out this Michelline recommended restaurant this week and enjoyed our plates of sizzling hot dinner. We ordered a steak, mushroom, and string bean dish that stole the show! Strips of perfectly cooked rib eye and a variety of savory mushrooms stir fried together in a ginger scallion medley-so good! We also ordered a braised fish and tofu dish that was served piping hot. Definitely make a stop if you're looking for solid Chinese food. There is a parking lot off to the side but it got tricky at the peak of the Friday night rush!

Celebrated lunar new year with a Chinese dinner here! It was crowded but we got seated in 20 minutes. We ordered the pea shoots (4/5 - a little bit tough), duck with truffle sauce (5/5 - a bit weird at first but the taste grows on you) and just white rice (3/5 - I've eaten better rice). Overall, was a really good meal despite the rice quality and would come back again. I'll order the fried rice next time. They also give you a free dessert at the end!

The first thing I noticed was that there was really not many pieces of ribs, maybe they made the ribs portion smaller to make room for the lap cheung I ordered? The dish description also says that it includes taro, but I didn't have a single piece of taro in my pot. Strangely, although this place seems to share a kitchen with Social Eatery, the rice was cooked much more poorly here, which is obviously a shame for a place specializing in clay pot rice. It seems like the rice had too much water added, so it was a bit overcooked - you couldn't feel the "single grain" mouthfeel texture you should expect from well-cooked, high quality rice. Since the rice was too mushy, it obviously didn't crisp well either. Though it had some small amount of bits stuck to the edges of the metal (not clay!) pot, it was definitely not the super crispy, well browned "faan ziu" I expect, and not at all like the pictures featured in some earlier reviews of this restaurant.

Coming here on a Saturday after making dinner reservations on a late Saturday afternoon, I saw a number of familiar faces immediately. Half of their staff are from the Monterey Blvd. Won Kok Restaurant. This was my 1st time dining here in likely close to thirty years when it was another restaurant. Back to our meal, we were seated at the far end corner of the restaurant, prime location for spacing and restroom access. In crafting our menu, my friend chose several staple dishes from their original location; besides those, my friend was gifted a Bay-caught halibut so I asked the restaurant for suggestions in cooking it. The chef suggested cooking it two-ways. I knew the captain from his two previous restaurants (20+ years) and he guided us. Here's what we ate (family style): 1. Steamed surf clams with garlic and vermicelli noodles (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=lPyTuWkX4RoUtP-3fZ2UiA) - These were served in two halves on each plate (four plates for eight shells) for our party of eight. Tasty, flavorful, and fresh as their flagship location in San Francisco. 2. Soy sauce supreme seasoned prawns, 2.5 lbs (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=wYtIFMiiYTuhOa_CmggLrQ) - I actually requested "West Lake" shrimp but was subbed out by this. This was good, just not what we wanted and expected and definitely pricier. 3. Salt and pepper halibut (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=9scLPxW30ktLJK72UIrSBw) - Half of our provided fish was cooked this style. It was done well as you'd expect from the most famous R&G chef to go through their kitchen. 4. Sauteed pea sprouts with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=GDqjVZCqWnGvZ68sbHjqCw) - Pretty standard version and the pea sprouts were cleaned and trimmed well without any inedible or chewy pieces. 5. Pan fried pork spare ribs with soy sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=x3xQew_Es07lW2dPJwB7BA) - This was the captain's recommendation and it was good but didn't stand out in any particular way. The ribs are cut into bite sized pieces and flash fried. 6. Simmered beef stew & turnip with pepper in broth (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CAg60fXr0CfXtrcPVm2kEQ) - One of the signature dishes from the chef's days on Kearny Street that he continued at his Monterey Blvd. location. The portions are certainly enough for our large party as a family style dish. The broth is definitely the star and, for me, the radish (daikon). 7. Steamed halibut with black bean sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=amzaLddp_H2vdSGzrKyYfQ) - The size of the fish made this tricky as, when the captain tried to remove the bones in serving, we learned that the fish was not fully cooked. He brought it back to the kitchen and they cooked this to a perfect cooking temperature. The flavors were nice and the black bean sauce didn't overpower the fish. 8. Golden fried rice with a touch of egg white (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=CZdyzi720mOckNXxHulS4g) - Another restaurant recommended dish, we were amazed at how tasty this was, given the simplicity of its description. Apologies for not having a full serving photo as the captain offered and agreed to him apportioning it in bowls for each diner. 9. Crispy skin roast chicken with garlic (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=TspHX9eknS496I3zXwVwlQ) - This is their innovative twist on the Cantonese favorite jia zhi chicken with a strong garlic flavor. The carving of the decorative chicken head (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=DaywI5br-WQb9hh0a5sgng) was impressive. 10. Green bean tapioca soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=12ljEfFOj8tqwIaBXHvTVw) - Complimentary, a nice ending. 11. Red bean paste pastries (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=MwjmcyVoyHVXnmPRWYuM8w) - Complimentary and okay. The theme here, given the restaurant size, is for banquet style meals and prices reflect it. By the time we left, the dining room and the staff were swamped. Highly recommend making reservations especially weekends. More likely to dine at their flagship but will come for special occasions or with South Bay friends.

This restaurant definitely has a following since people were coming in to pick up food as well as an equal amount of people dining inside the restaurant. Every dish we ordered was plentiful and delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant especially if your favorite Cantonese dish is hard to find. The roast duck was flavorful and tasty. We also ordered the clay pot dish featuring beef brisket. The wor wonton was chock full of treats although the won ton were each super salty. The seafood noodles were prepared perfectly. Seafood freshly wok prepared without overdoing the seafood. Noodles were pan fried to the perfect toasty flavor and texture. Look forward to trying more things at this restaurant! The restaurant is bright, open and airy. There are music videos playing on televisions as well as a welcoming feel to the restaurant.

Because of that experience, I won't be ordering the calamari again. Recently, I ordered my favorite roast duck and noticed a strange smell that seemed different from what I remembered. I'm not sure whether the recipe has changed or if there was an issue with that particular order. Because of these experiences, I'm hesitant to order from there again. Service: I don't have a problem with it Ambiance : need improvement

1 Seafood Baked Rice Wow! Look at the big shrimp, fish, and…read morescallops! There are so many! The cheese on top is golden, beautiful, and so cheesy. My friend eats it and the cheese pulls long, long, long! I want to eat it too! 2 French Toast with Milk and Ovaltine Oh my god! This is so special! The bread smells sweet and soft, just like a pineapple bun. When you cut it, the milk and Ovaltine flow out like a waterfall! The bread is full of sweet milk. It is SO yummy! 3 Beef Short Ribs with Fried Egg Rice I tried one piece from my friend. The beef is so juicy and yummy! You get a big plate of rice and a drink for one person. Next time, I will order this for myself! 4 Satay Beef Fried Macaroni My friend ordered this. It smells so good! I tried one spoon and--Wow! The satay taste is so rich, but it is not too salty. It is just perfect! 5 Baked Spaghetti with Meat Sauce I love pasta! I took one bite and said, "Oh my god!" The tomato taste is so strong. Every bite has a lot of meat sauce, and the noodles are so bouncy. It is very good! No wonder this restaurant is open for more than 18 years! If you fly into SF or before you leave, and you don't know what to eat, come try this place!

Quickly offered…read morethe menu and it had lots of Hong Kong cafe options including dishes typically only available in the morning. Order Scrambled Egg with Shrimp Chow Fun and a milk tea. Food arrived quickly. The milk tea was deep bold in black tea flavor balanced with creaminess of the condensed milk. Sweetness was just right for me and I don't typically add sugar to my teas or coffee. The Chow Fun was a large order but since I had a very light breakfast. I devoured the entire dish. The noodles were tender, and slightly chewy. The shrimps were plump and the egg gravy was smooth, velvety, glossy, and slightly thick enough to coat the noodles. The dish was flavorful yet some how light. The staff isn't too friendly but they are efficient. They did not rush us to leave even after we long finished our food and was just chatting away. Although a bit on the expensive side, I would definitely come back.
