Thoughtful, quaint, and cozy little breakfast/brunch nook located in the heart of the hamlet of Pound Ridge. A tasty yet creative menu with good ole fashioned comfort food along with some healthy options. I agree the service needs a little work, but other than that, it is a nice place to go either with your partner, or family. This is the quintessential small town America eatery serving excellent unique and sometimes quirky dishes in a country atmosphere. It's tucked away in a sleepy northern Westchester town that completes the picture of 1955 America (in a good way). WHAT TO GET: Breakfast and brunch. Baked goods are good and the chinna-muff (toasted with butter) is a must order. The bacon, egg, and cheese (on a croissant) is fantastic, and the Nutella toast is great. Also, the ice coffee is a must -- not sure why it is so good but it is exceptional. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable locals. WHAT TO SKIP: Being in a rush. Our favorite place for dinner is The Kitchen Table. If you haven't tried their weekend dinner menu, you're missing out on the best food in town and the most pleasant outdoor dining environment in town (think flowers and garden, peaceful and pretty). And it's kid friendly! They also have a wonderful beer and wine menu, and delicious desserts. Daphne and her staff consistently make us feel happy and welcomed. We always look forward to our dinner nights out, esp in these times because it's something we don't do as often as before. read more

I love this place. While I'm not a coffee drinker, I hear the coffee is outstanding. I like the tea selection. The soups are excellent the avocado toast is divine. The breakfast burrito is great, though a bit small. Love the spicy chicken quesadilla which is served on Friday nights. The service is friendly and informal. While its not fine dining, it's the best place to drop in, grab a snack and a drink and catch up on what's happening in town. Yes, they serve on paper plates, but that doesn't bother me at all. read more

This is a follow-up to my first review of this place, when I came here originally for dinner. At that time, I gave this place 3 stars. This time I came by for breakfast along with a companion. I ordered one egg over multigrain bread, avocado spread and some sort of greens. My companion ordered the French toast. Both were underwhelming. When we overheard two other diners asked why they were being served on plastic plates rather than on regular plates, and we asked what was going on, we were told - somewhat abruptly - by our young waitress that the restaurant "always" serves everything on plastic plates, except for the oatmeal, because the building is "water-restricted." That was news to us, since all the other restaurants in town don't seem to have this problem, and the restaurant did not claim to have this issue when we were last here. I did insist that we be served on regular plates (which the waitress did), but my question now is: how can a restaurant safely function in a "water-restricted" building? Does this mean that there's not enough water to clean dishes? To wash hands? To run a bathroom? Not sure, but I am concerned enough that I will not return here anytime soon. As to the food - an afterthought at this point - it was mediocre at best. The food was poorly and unimaginatively presented; the preparation was mediocre; and for what it was ... well, it was overpriced. The coffee, at least, was decent, but that was it. The space is clean and presentable, but the restaurant is presumptuous about subsidizing local farmers and "fresh" food. There are better representatives elsewhere. Other restaurants in the area, including the local diner just across the way, do a much better job all around. read more

I find it hard to like this place, although there aren't many places to eat in this little hamlet, and the owners have a bent toward a natural and healthy vibe. But the noise level is on par with an industrial manufacturing plant thanks to a near nuclear cappuccino machine that seems to threaten exploding any minute in a Queen Mary boiler room holocaust. The food is average, much of it imported from elsewhere, the music competing for audial attention. If you're looking for a quick eat and run its probably fine. If you want a thoughtful cup of coffee and pensive read if a newspaper, forget it. read more

Had a coffee with some bar snacks. Completely relaxed. Read my paper in this serene and beautifully lighted environment. And it was a Saturday evening. No pressure to leave. Owner came over and chatted. Robert Rubin, former economic secretary and wife came in and took two seats at the bar. Just a wonderful interlude in this small town. This place is awesome. The environment is relaxing, the door is open with a summer breeze coming through and fresh herbs planted outside. The staff is super friendly and awesome. The cook peeks through the door once in a while and he is just as happy. The food is fresh organic and delicious. Packed with flavor. The coffee is delicious and rich! What a wonderful addition to our neighborhood. For years my husband and I have complained about the lack of a cozy and affordable neighborhood restaurant. We've been meaning to eat here for weeks since it opened but just finally got the opportunity this past Friday evening. As a vegetarian and lover of Mexican food, I was delighted with the menu and the food itself. Everything was fresh, nicely presented, simple yet very tasty. The staff was accommodating and attentive. My husband had the delicious pulled pork and I very much enjoyed the bean burrito. The guacamole and the gazpacho were perfectly seasoned. We will come back and will recommend to our friends. I've been eyeing this place every time I drive by for months now. The atmosphere is inviting and warm, and you feel like you are eating in your neighbors kitchen We sat at the bar and chatted with employees and locals, and enjoyed The Kitchen Tables Friday Mexican night. Fresh ingredients, and delicious guacamole made the veggie burritos very appetizing. The salad du jour, of arugula, beets and feta was also delicious. Tiny and adorable. A great place for kids in the morning, with delicious breakfast and good coffee. It is a place to stop and sit for a little. It's small, so the service is appropriately timed, i.e. not rushed. If you are in a rush, you should go to a local deli for sure. I come back all the time, love it. read more

This has become a weekend go-to for us when we're in New Canaan, despite it being a bit out of the way. Pound Ridge doesn't really have the small-town coffee shop that you would expect in a little town like this, so the Kitchen Table is a gem that sort of fills that void, with good coffee, but also with good food. We usually stick with breakfast items, and have not been disappointed. Casual atmosphere and friendly staff. Some good/comical people watching with the New Yorkers who think they're in Vermont or something, although we have also seen those types be very rude with the staff for no reason- please don't expect as wide a menu as Sarabeth's. Only difficulty is that it's very small, so can sometimes get crowded quickly. read more

Had the Kitchen Table Breakfast. Food was good, not great. I suspect the sauteed mixed greens were actually spinach. The waitress assured me that the food was 'like farm fresh'; not sure if that was a qualifier or if she recently came from California. I know I've been watching too many episodes of 'Restaurant Impossible', but the management is KILLING this place. There are no systems: while part of my breakfast was on the pick up table waiting to be served, I observed the wait staff reading a newspaper, texting, and chatting with their school buddies. Took the family to breakfast and experienced great service, food, and atmosphere. Very little wait time. Much better than the breakfast place across the street. The kids had yummy French toast.
