Had a quiet birthday dinner Tues. My chicken piccata was perfect. Tender chicken, light lemon cream sauce and plenty of artichoke and capers with perfectly cooked penne pasta. Delicious! We shared a peppermint chocolate brownie for dessert. The chef-owner came by our table. She indicated the menu is still evolving, as she fine tunes it. I was curious to try The Kitchen and finally had the chance today. Airy subway feel, great location. Wanting something on the healthier side, I ordered the grilled vegetable panini, ($9.) which came with a side of kettle chips in a bag.The sandwich description said it had zucchini. eggplant, fresh mozzarella, roasted tomato tapenade and basil pesto. It was smaller than I expected, had no pesto, a few small bits of eggplant, thin sliced zucchini and the tapenade made the inside of the bread cold and soggy. There was the addition of fresh asparagus, which was nice. Anemic at best tho. Service was good and food came quickly. Not sure I will go back. read more

This is my first visit here. I had the Cobb salad with Caesar dressing. It was fresh, fast and extremely tasty with a good portion. The blue cheese was crumbled larger which really allowed a good funk when bitten. It was sauced just the right amount that didn't make the salad swim and yet provided coverage to the last bite. I suppose the price is consistent with a lunch in this area, yet a little more than typical for what I like to pay. (spoken as a frequent brown-bagger). We've been driving all over the country the past few weeks and this is one of the best places I have eaten at. Food was fresh and seasoned so well. We ordered the Disco Fries, Garlic Bread, Chicken and Spinach Flat Bread, and the Kickin Chicken. All were delicious and I would gladly order again. Highly recommend the brownie (so fudgey and delicious) and the triple chocolate cake, both were fantastic. We also tried the lavender lemonade which was one of the most interesting drinks I've had and am very glad I tried it. Wait staff was so pleasant, we met the chef as well. Such a great place. Stopped in for my lunch break on a Saturday, wanting to try something different. The decor isn't a whole lot to look at, the place is clean but it's a little boring. I sat at the bar and was kept entertained by some light chit-chat with the very friendly waitstaff. I went with a Guinness, a veggie panini and a bowl of tomato bisque, their soup of the day. I don't eat vegetarian all the time, but I like having good options for when I don't feel like eating meat, and I have to say the panini did not disappoint. It was covered in squash, bell peppers and eggplant, everything gooey and stuck together with cheese. I was surprised at the crunchy layer of asparagus running right down the middle, which added some needed texture to an otherwise soft sandwich. It tasted like a fancy grilled cheese, and so I dipped the panini in the tomato soup and ate it that way, and I was warm with nostalgia. One thing about vegetarian fare is it typically doesn't fill you up very well, but that was not the case here. Between the sandwich and the beer, and I was too full to quite finish off the soup completely. Lunch and drinks ran about typical downtown prices, but it was worth the price. I was very disappointed with my first/only experience at The Kitchen and I do not plan on returning. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich and French Onion Soup. While the chicken sandwich was satisfactory, the French onion soup was extremely over seasoned, to the point I only ate two spoonfuls. For the first time in my life I mentioned to the waitress that I was not satisfied with my meal and would not be able to eat it. She graciously offered to ask the manger/owner if they would be able to take it off my bill, she was told 'no' and I was charged full price. Some of the best food I've had since living in Wichita for the past two years, its modern like a franchise but it's ran locally so there's that hometown touch that it has with a upscale feel. The food was absolutely amazing I had the spinach cream ravioli which was a 10+ for me along with a fried chicken salad which was probably one of the most fresh salads I've ever had. So we went to the kitchen last night because we had to get a quick bite to eat before a dance event . When I walked in I asked the Lady if they were kid friendly . She replied yes so I assumed they would have a kid menu or some options . We have a two year old they really aren't kid friendly in fact it seemed like t was the first toddler they had ever served lol . She was very nice but had no idea what the kid options were and had to ask the manager a billion questions . Which then made me feel difficult to deal with . Ridiculous. The waitress was nice but told my husband their burgers were delicious. Nope! It was a Sam's or Costco hamburger patty. It was not fresh ground hand patted beef. $12.00 and cheese was a $1.00, bacon was a $1.00. A $14.00 Sam's burger. The place was not busy. There is absolutely no reason why they cannot cook the food from scratch. The name is deceiving. You think it is going to be home cooked meals. Food is gross and expensive.
