I was super excited to go back to the Lake room because we liked it a lot last year. For some reason, the food and service were disappointing. I ordered a lobster tail and spinach ravioli for$56. The lobster was taken out of the shell and cut into tiny pieces and very salty. It was about 1/8 cup of pieces. I wanted to order a side salad, but they were $11. They do not serve bread or anything prior to meals. The server was attentive, but didn't care to fix anything that wasn't right. I don't think we'll be returning to the Lake room anytime soon. read more

I'm continually impressed by the quality of the food and service here! I recently went for dinner on a busy Friday night and sat at the bar, the bartender was super friendly, but also gave my husband and I space when we were just chatting the two of us. My husband ordered the filet with their, I believe, truffle butter on top and the risotto cake on the side. I ordered their carbonara, and am pretty picky about this dish, but have to try it everywhere. I love that they make their noodles from scratch every day, but I don't like the thick pappardelle noodle with the dish- would prefer spaghetti, but the sauce and pancetta was great! The filet was impeccable, had a great crust but still cooked medium rare inside, and the risotto is something I've dreamed about since. For cocktails, I got their Manhattan and my husband got a dirty martini with blue cheese olives- both were great! Would absolutely recommend this place for dinner or brunch! Decided to hit up the Lake Room given it had been years since I'd been back in town and that it replaced my grandfather's dry cleaning business i was willing to give it a try... but all came up short! We ordered a Wedge Salad for before our meal....server didn't come back to our table till our food came out (which from the time we ordered to coming out was over 30 minutes and the place had only two other tables at the time) even after Nate trued flagging him down a couple times.... Food comes out... Nates steak that was to be Medium Rare comes out Well Done... and still no wedge salad... Steak gets sent back.... And after about 3-4 minutes server then decided to bring out the Wedge so Nate had something to eat while i had my meal... 9 minutes later.. steak comes out... VERY Rare... By that point we gave up. Nate ate his potatoes and sent back the steak and we were done. Will i ever be back to Lake Room..No... Even worse is the table to the left behind us had the same steak issues. I'd maybe more understanding if the place was packed and busy especially on a Friday.. there was no real excuse besides i think they have a cook who really just doesnt know how to cook a steak. I've been here a couple times for happy hour but I finally came for brunch. We made a reservation for a Sunday morning and were able to sit on the patio, which is beautiful. While I probably should have known, I didn't realize everyone was going to be driving their loud motorcycles in the back parking lot while we were there. Pros and cons, I suppose. I'm a regular guest and I've never had such bad problems resolving my food issues a few weeks ago and ordered the prime rib skewer and they were very fatty and I could not eat them tonight I ordered the prime rib skewers and they were so overdone it like cubes of charcoal. I ate a couple because it was 6 o'clock at night, and I did not have any lunch and she said, would you like something else? I said, yes, give me the shrimp and they charge me for both. It would not remove the charge . I am so disappointed I will never go there again. They are absolutely the worst at hospitality. any other decent restaurant would remove the charge . This restaurant rating is for brunch. A beautiful restaurant in a central (lake mtka) location. It reminded me of walking into an Abercrombie and Fitch. Dark, rich, mahogany wood furniture, wine glass sculptures strategically placed here and there, window plantation shutters (LOVE), beautiful chandeliers, local lake mtka Art (I loved the tile Mosaic piece, the paddle boat painting, and the lake mtka cut-out wall art), and the painted marble floor. The patio is small but perfect with a gorgeous fire pit house, patio heat warmers, and a few tables with Albert Einstein cafe lights. My toddler was satisfied with a kids menu, crayons, coloring sheets, and a kid's cup of fresh squeezed OJ. I LOVED the mimosa flight. This is something I have never seen before. Brilliant!!! You pick 3 of 6-7 choices. I chose lavender/mint (my fav), peach Bellini, and strawberry/lemon. WARNING: I felt elegantly wasted after drinking this flight. Prob not the best idea when managing a baby and a toddler. I ordered the frittata. It was SOOOOOOOOOOO good. When I cut into the frittata, it oozed with buttery greens. There was crispy/baked Asiago cheese on top that added so much to the flavor. It came with a side salad (although it was weird to eat a salad for breakfast) and breakfast potato wedges. I highly recommend this dish! My husband ordered the short ribs Benedict. It was a little bland and needed S&P. My [respectful] suggestion is the chef should maybe add garlic salt (after all, everything is better with garlic). I will be back for dinner sometime! read more

Sleeper venue with very little advertising...take FULL advantage because when this place becomes main stream it will be week long wait for reservations. Food is outstanding and price is fair! Chocolate martini in the lower level Jimmy's Bar is on point. Sea Bass, Delmonico (ask for it to have a chat crust), and the chopped salad are delicious. Decent wine menu and fun cocktail offerings. I had dinner at the Lake Room this evening and it was wonderful! First off, when you walk in the door you have the option of the saloon on the left or the Lake Room and finer dining on the right. The food and the service was incredible. The atmosphere was quiet and inviting with tasteful decor. My server Demi was knowledgeable on the wine list and the menu making several recommendations (at my request) all of which were winners. The food was outstanding! I started with the sea bass skewers and chorizo meatballs and moved on to the filet mignon, finishing it off with the fried blueberry pie. Everything was fabulous and I can't wait to go again. Special thanks again to Demi who doubles as a bartender. Knowledgeable and funny, good attitude and added to the experience. This was much better than going to a McDonalds! We have been here several times and the food is consistently good. The sea bass is one of my favorite dishes. However, the service is sometimes lacking and on this most recent visit, it was very disappointing. While I acknowledge our server was busy, our table was mostly ignored, particularly after we declined to order drinks (we were there with our elderly parents). In addition, we ordered a large Caesar salad to share amongst the four of us and specifically asked to have it brought before the main courses. The salad never arrived. While I understand mistakes happen, the most disappointing part was that neither our server nor anyone else apologized for the miss. At the end of the meal, it took a very long time for our server to bring us the check (our 94 year old parents were ready to leave). While I love the food, I am hesitant to ever go back. read more

I was amazed at the food, really, really outstanding and probably the best in the area (and I'm a foodie, I get around). If you're lucky, you can get a booth, there are many two person tables which are a bit too smallish, but work, along with a big table that could probably seat ten. Small bar with about ten chairs. Dark, cozy, music playing. Had to take a star off because when I made the reservation it asked (online) if it was a special occasion and I said birthday. We went here the other day as they opened-so not busy at all. We ordered bottles of wine and no limit to what the kids or we wanted. Split a few things and one of them was the mushroom pizza. We got the sausage pizza. The waitress apologized and said she was sorry. A few moments later she came back out to ask if we cared to wait for a new pizza that would take a bit longer or if we wanted mushrooms on top of the sausage one. We had no problem waiting as we had plenty of food and wine and no hurry as it was a chill night. Not 2 minutes later we got a pizza with mushrooms on top and you could CLEARLY see the "holes" where the sausage was removed. I guess at that point-I would have took the sausage with mushroom on top. Celebrated a friend's birthday with dinner at The Lake Room. Nice cozy setting with a well-curated wine list and terrific menu - seafood, steak, pasta, and more. I had the Chilean Sea Bass with risotto cake and spinach - wow! Beautifully presented and the taste was out of this world delicious! Hubby got the short rib which was tasty, and our friends ordered excellent scallops and well-prepared prime rib. We enjoyed the meal so much we didn't even take a picture! My wife and I went to The Lake Room for our 38th anniversary. The hostess was very friendly and accommodating. My wife ordered the Short Rib Pizza but the waiter brought her a Short Rib platter. When it was mentioned to him he laughed and said we wouldn't make the pizza anyway because we're too busy and it would take too long. No apology, no discount. From the street, it doesn't look like much but the inside is decorated nicely. We decided to get away from Wayzata and the other bustling places and try something new. The Lake Room did not fully disappoint. The food was decent - maybe not at the level of those we absolutely adore, but all the dishes were nicely balanced and seasoned well and we had a pleasant evening with very good service. The mussels were delicious - the jus that they were sitting in was, like very good mussels, so good to sop up with the grilled bread. Our server was kind enough to ask if we wanted some more grilled bread - and of course we jumped at that! I had the miso glazed sea bass that rested on a risotto and mozzarella cake - very indulgent but nice - maybe better as a winter dish. My husband had the delmonico and asked for medium rare, and it was medium to medium well, which was disappointing. We wished the sautéed mushrooms had more variety (more earthy/wild - such as maitake, etc.). The drinks were fantastic. All in all, we will be back, but most likely to sit in the bar and have some good appetizers with drinks. I wanted to give it a 4, but with the steak not done properly and a few other flaws, a 3.5 is really what I would like to give. read more

I want to love this place, but they just can't seem to fully get their act together. The menu has tons of variety with what sound like yummy dishes. Last night they were clearly woefully understaffed. Servers were bartenders and servers. My cocktail arrived in an incredibly sticky glass and was unintentionally warm. Got warm nasty water in spotty glasses. I ordered a mimosa that took more than 15 minutes to come out and there were maybe 4 other parties there. Shouldn't take that long to pour OJ and champagne. I really was turned off by the view of the dumpsters out the windows and we almost walked out after eating because we were neglected by our server. Tables had napkins under legs to make level. Really? They don't know that tables have screws on the legs that twist for adjusting? As far as the food, I had the short rib Benny and my husband had the man-candy bacon Benny (sexist/gender-typing). Mine was ok. Maybe it's good for some, but the bacon Benny was LOADED with bacon, my husband felt like he was going to have a heart attack if he finished it. Ordered takeout - it was SO dissapointing!!! Would give 0 stars if I could. Craving a good pasta and was willing to splurge. Ordered a $26 pasta dish...was a ridiculously small portion. Swear it was a spoonful plopped in the to go container. Was to be served with a poached egg - there was no egg. Best part of the dish is the perfectly cooked yolk on top. Not this time!! One would think for $25.95 they could would include bread - nope, no bread!! Couldnt even throw in one piece??!! Sorry Lake Room will not be returning. We booked this evening as an anniversary dinner because the menu looks so good. The high point was the short rib with mashed potatoes and a nice wine and drink list. The down sides - so noisy you can't hear your conversation, the gumbo was bland and served barely warm, the bolognese was so salty it was barely edible (and I love salt) and the key lime pie was very average.
