A south San Diego icon , located at Browns Field airport it's tucked in amongst the cluster of buildings with a clean view of the runway. The bar and grill open Tuesday thru Fridays is definitely a hidden find. Plenty of parking as well inside there's a full bar serving cocktails and beers , happy hours from 3-6 with drink specials. Plenty of TVs , Juke box and two pool tables. Today I had a delicious mouthwatering BLT built to perfection on sourdough, as a side I had the potato salad which was close to homemade. I'm looking forward to happy hour and that 12oz Ribeye in the menus. Good job today, I'll definitely be back ! read more

I went in recently to check out the refreshed interior as the place is under new management. I really liked the new floors, decorations and upbeat vibe. Since this place is a part of the Brown Field Airport terminal, there are some awesome windows where you can watch the airplanes. I also really enjoyed sitting in the outdoor patio seating area. There's a juke box and some pool tables too! Parking was no problem and the location is very handy for people in the area, especially if you're going to the airport (duh), CBX or the Otay Port of Entry. This place has a legit "locals" feel and is worth checking out. read more

My sister and I stopped by to have a couple of drink on 8/13/2025, the female bartender took are drink order but never came back to see if everything was fine or if we even wanted to order any food, when the male who I was told was part owner never even acknowledged that we were sitting there, he only cared about the 2 older women that was sitting there at the end of the bar, (he must of known them), never acknowledged that we were there never even checked to see if we wanted another drink or anything else. The bartender was extremely rude, actually the worst bartender we have ever encountered as far as customer service. "....it's on the menu, so someone likes it...." Stopped In for lunch. Not to busy, no AC, no music.... But what they do have is the rudest waitress in the world! Asked a question about the menu and the response was as if I asked her to do a handstand while delivering our lunch. They will NOT be getting my money ever again. $12 beer buckets - good place to stop by after work to just hang out with co-workers to close the work day. I think their modo is be rude to the customer. They do it consistently so I think everyone just goes with the flow. Their buffalo wing is good and their chili chips are 80% chips and 20% chili - in another words not enough chili for the amount of chips. Also another trick I learned here is eat potato chips with hot sauce is very good. P.S. they have Karaoke as well as the dance floor. Get your singing and move on - if you are in the area. It's not one of those place you come looking for it. But if you are in the area and need to wind down - Great place. read more

A really nice cafe with good food. Several coworkers and I stopped in for breakfast one morning to give it a try. The place reminded me of a workplace breakroom that serves good food. The lady serving us was friendly, quick, and efficient. The prices are really good for what you get. We each got different breakfast items and we all enjoyed them. It is easy to get to with plenty of parking. Only downside if you are not familiar with the area is the freeway construction moving the roads all around. read more

Very casual airport diner, but they clearly care about the food. Burgers were a full half-pound, served with all the fixin's on a buttered-and-toasted bun. A great place to fly in for a hundred-dollar hamburger, or drive to if you're in the area and looking for a cafe. The ladies room looked much better than the last reviewer's experience. read more

I had a couple of hours to wait while the Robinson was being attended to. I decided to hit up the landing strip and refuel myself! There's not a whole lot to say about this place besides I suspect mostly it's a restaurant built on convenience for folks who frequent the facilities. I'd bet that there are plenty of curious passers-by on the adjacent streets who could be delighted if they'd just give the place a try! It's not especially unique, but the fare is decent (I had breakfast), prices are fair, and the staff was professional and fairly nice. Well, back to my chow! Ciao! read more

There's two things going on here, the diner and the bar. I have gone to both several times and admit that I am a bit biased about the place. The diner: two words...greasy spoon. While your sitting there waiting for your food you feel like your at some remote airport in BFE in the early 80s. That being said, the food is the bomb! Slightly greasy but perfect. bacon, eggs, hash browns...you get the picture. The service is awesome. It's the same lady every time and she is consistent. Hands down, the best breakfast in Otay Mesa once you get over the ambiance. Don't waste your time... Order the number 19. The bar: Hole. In. Wall. I work near the airport so it's a great place to go after a rough week or just unwind. On any given day, there will be a group of prison hacks from Donavan or some Border Patrol Agents. Those guys are cool they keep to themselves. There's usually a group of pilots, usually military dudes and once in a while some civilian ones. There's a juke box there with good "bar" music. The beer selection is exceptional considering the venue. Beer is cheep and cold and sold in buckets. The food is the same menu as the diner. Do: order the wings and fries. Don't: order the tuna melt and any type of salad (duh). The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is for one reason and one reason only. The bartender is a freakin C-word. Once you get over that, the Landing Strip is a great spot in To drink some cold ones. read more

As we're driving down the 5, down the 5 and even FURTHER down the 5, and then hopping on to the 905, I say to my partners in crime, "Man, I didn't think I was going to have to bring my passport just to sing in a karaoke contest!" The Landing Strip was the host to the Top 40 semi-finals for a karaoke contest I've been participating in (and as I'm writing this I just got a call - I'm in the finals!!!). Getting to this place is interesting, since you end up about 2.2 minutes from Mexico. At least it seemed that way to me. Then you make a left on to a road that doesn't look like it's even possible to make a left onto, then drive down this desolate driveway (which apparently is a road that changes names twice). It was only because of the sign off to the side that proclaimed the name of the bar that I thought we might be heading in the right direction. This place is not much from the outside. Eric, Travis (my co-semi-finalist) and I were almost hesitant to enter. The signs on the bar look like they haven't been changed/painted/renovated in years. I found it charming and headed on in. This place looks like they took a VFW hall or firehouse party room and converted it into a bar. It is PRECIOUS. Coors light blow ups in the shape of airplaines and blimps hang from the ceiling. The chairs and tables are bare-bones black painted metal. When we walked in, it was pretty quiet. I could imagine making a few friends with some local old-school boozehounds here. Then the rest of the karaoke crazies came in. The place livened up quite a bit, and I felt REALLY bad for the bartender/cook/waitress - yeah, one person doing EVERYTHING. So the line to get a drink and/or place a food order got pretty backed up. But I couldn't get mad - she was working her ass off, and never showed a sign of aggravation. They do have a great special on beer buckets - 6 (you can mix and match) for $18. It was a Thursday night, so Miller Lites were $2 (not sure if that was bottle or draft). I'm not sure how much mixed drinks were going for - but my friend really liked his double Bacardi and Diet short. So I'm assuming the drinks are mixed well. One thing - the ladies room was atrocious. None of the toilet paper rolls actually fit on the holders, there were entire rolls on the floor and shreds of paper everywhere. The doors were a little jacked up as well. It could definitely use a renovation - but, that being said, it wasn't the worst bathroom I've been in. Everything was functioning, and it didn't smell bad. They also have a nice patio/deck that's a fairly decent size, with plastic chairs and tables. You can sit out there and and enjoy your beer and a smoke when it gets too hot inside (which it will). Last night there was a really nice breeze. All in all, it seems like this is a little place (maybe the only place for miles around?) that is making do with what resources they have. I honestly had a great time here. It's just unlikely that I'll make it back because it's so far. Like, ends of the earth far. On a karaoke-related note, Rick, who runs the show there, seems to be like a pretty nice guy. Also has a great sound system and a lot of songs. read more

Place is kind of cool because of the old aviation mood and ornaments you can find on the walls, food is barely ok..ish but the big problem to me is the service. Really terrible, not only unpolite but I would say rude. I went in because looked like was the only option during a flight to Brown field airport. Worst place to eat if you're other than white. The waitress gave us an attitude since we got there, insulting my friend and she threw the bottle opener at us. One of her friends offered to buy us a bucket of beer and an Uber so we could leave. They all were bothered just because we were speaking Spanish, I ordered the last bucket and threw the bottle opener back at her just like her and I guess it wasn't funny because we got kicked out of the place. Great bar with lots of pilots killing time waiting for their clients to finish whatever business they have in San Diego or at Coors Amphitheatre. Beer buckets are cheap and plentiful and the diner food is not bad. Hours are spotty--I've gone more than once when they were supposed to be open and they were closed--I think they just close when they're making less per hour than they pay the bartender. Bonus: back way through the airport & junkyards puts you right on the 805 & lets you avoid the death wish that is the 905! read more

mine is an insider's review. I am a person who works on this airport where this restaurant is located and have had plenty of experience with this establishment. i use to eat here(mainly because there use to be nothing around for miles), but after a while you get tired of paying their expensive prices for less than mediocre food. add to that the extremely rude service of a lady named Brandi (owner's daughter) and this turns into an awful dining out experience. also their cleanliness and food safety practices leaves something to be desired, example...handling cash and then going back to cook your food without washing up....eew. by the way, there is a post on here by Brandi (mentioned before) who give's this slop house 5 stars, ha ha ha....big surprise, her family owns the joint. read more
