A former 1882 stagecoach stop turned into Livingston's own version of "Cheers," this place has a lot of character before you even look at the menu. We stopped in for lunch and were glad we did. We started with the homemade chili soup, which was hearty and full of flavor. It had that slow-simmered taste you hope for on a cool day. For mains, we ordered the Landmark Burger and the Chicken Quesadilla. The burger came loaded with cheese fondue, bacon, frizzled onions, lettuce, and tomatoes on a soft brioche bun. It was messy in the best way and cooked just right. The quesadilla was packed with pepper jack and cheddar, served with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream, and salsa. Simple, solid, and satisfying. Portions were generous, so come hungry. The food was good across the board, and they also have a nice beer list with plenty of options to pair with your meal. I have a soft spot for neighborhiid bars with beer and burgers. This one was founded in 1882 as a stage coach spot. I know they also have pizza and other items but I come here for a good burger and I am not disappointed. You can get other things like pizza, which I've never had, and French onion soup, which is excellent. I did have a salad with chicken and some of a shared Giant Pretzel with cheese, both of which were fine. But I come here for the burgers. The Landmark is a 10 oz Burger, cheese fondue, bacon, frizzled onion, lettuce, tomato on a brioche roll. The English Burger is a 4oz burger, English muffin, cheddar cheese. There's a plain burger in 4 or 8 ounces and if you want, you can add toppings like cheese, onion frizzles, mushrooms and bacon. Also available is a black bean burger, a salmon burger and a turkey burger. Every single burger I've had has been excellent. Only caveat is burgers do not come with fries, which you have to order separately. There's a decent selection of beer on tap and bottle selection is good, and there's a bar with a bar menu if that's what interests you. Service is prompt and friendly. The place is small and unassuming. Plus prices are reasonable. Four oz plain burger is $5.50, eight oz is $9 and the Landmark burger is $13. Really a great place. Try it! read more

On this inaugural venture of the @OldPubClub Steve & Steve and the #Pubbettes decided to checkout @TheLandmarkNJ in #LivingstonNJ This building has been around since before 1882 as a former stagecoach stop and tavern. It has changed owners and names multiple times but has operated as the appropriately named "Landmark" since 1960. Our table had an assortment of tasty cocktails and some well prepared pub fare. The long wooden bar and high back booths really added to the old pub atmosphere. With one wall covered with pictures from past St. Patrick's Days, you got the feeling that that is the best day to be there. The service was quick and everyone was so friendly. I have been there in the past. However, this time I was disappointed. Service was OK, ambiance is that of a local bar. Food is subpar. The main reason for the 2 stars is that the charges for food on the bill do not match what is on the menu on the table. The amount of the mismatch isn't much, but it shouldn't occur at all. This is not about the credit card surcharge which is extra. Either this is poor management, or dishonesty on the part of the owner. It will be a while until I am back. read more

I really wanted to try this local spot because my husband grew up in Livingston and used to be a regular hang out spot when he was in high school many ages ago.. and I heard about the place from other people so I just had to come by and try for myself! We ordered the Thai pizza, jalapeño popper, tater tots, calamari, landmark burger, and chef salad. Jalapeño peppers were by far the least crunchy jalapeno peppers I've ever had... like I expected it to have a crunch to them but nope. Tastes quite soggy and not the least spicy. Not sure what part of the Thai pizza was Thai but we enjoyed our pizza. It's thin crust just the way we like it and doesn't feel heavy at all. Tater tots - a bit better than the jalapeno peppers but still lack the crunch you expect from something deep fried. Calamari - crunchiest out of the appetizers we got and goes well with their dipping sauce. Would recommend ordering this to start. I really enjoyed my chef salad - quite the large portion and definitely filled me up. Landmark burger was huge and had to be shared but definitely juicy and solid. Might pair well with a beer! Overall great for a local hangout spot but if you are looking for food quality, probably not the spot to hit. I have lived in the of Livingston most of my life and last night was the first time I stopped at Landmark! It's a humble little gem in Livingston! It is a small little restaurant with a bar, with about 6 tvs all around it. It was a nice friendly atmosphere and a nice waitress. I got the landmark burger and it was delicious and juicy. Wings were excellent as well! We also got fish and chips but we were a little disappointed with it so I didn't get a photo lol fish does not seem super fresh abs not as meaty as I thought it would. Overall this was a very good experience and we will definitely be back for another visit! read more

Usually would give 4 stars but tonight was different. Food was good as usual. However, the ambiance was atrocious. Our waiter looked completely disheveled, and the bartender I guess decided to match. Shortly after ordering, a waitress who didn't even take our order walked by our table with our apps just to ask OUR waiter where the proper table was. And the coup de grace was the group of loud and tipsy women at the bar (one in particular who was intently focused on her alcohol consumption). I guess it's nothing new for middle aged single people to come here. Anyways, maybe it was just an off night, who knows. read more

I love their pizza, but I am never ordering delivery from them again We called them and placed an order for delivery. We waited an hour. We called back and they said the delivery guy left it on the front porch and told us to check and call back. We checked and called back, and they said the delivery guy said he left it on our front porch once again. We went back outside and checked. We looked at our house and all of our neighbors' houses, We called to tell them we never got the food and they said they would call the delivery guy once again. They told us that they called us multiples times, but when they told us the phone number, they had written down the wrong phone number. When they told us the address it was left at, it was the wrong address. So they got the wrong address, the wrong phone number, said they could not redeliver the food because the delivery guy went home, and only offered to refund the money. This used to be my favorite place, I love their pizza, but the service was absolutely atrocious. They were extremely rude on the phone, didn't believe us that we didn't get the delivery, and kept telling us that we don't answer our phone even though THEY wrote down the wrong phone number. Like maybe check the caller id? I don't know, I was totally turned off off by this experience. They weren't even sympathetic or the least bit apologetic. Save yourself the trouble, and go somewhere else. read more

I've passed by this place a number of times and been curious and tonight I finally found occasion to stop in. I'm not sure why I thought this was a little gastropub but it isn't that. It's more like a no-frills town bar, not exactly a dive but it puts on no airs. Don't expect much in the way of ambience, but the beer is cold and the food is good, and at good prices too! My preteen son raved about his burger (it didn't come with fries...ask for those separately), and my mother, who usually eats like a bird, demolished the gigantic Landmark Burger she didn't expect to finish. My French dip sandwich was pretty good. I noticed there was a number of families there, but it was pretty crowded and noisy on a Friday night, so I am more likely to bring my friends back there than my family. Idk what happened to this place in this last year. They changed everything as far as the food goes. You can tell everything is frozen, the tuna-which was the best- is now full of mayo and gross. A friend had recommended this place. Immediately liked the decor, already from the parking lot, and it even gets much better when you get inside. Absolutely love the look of the place. Bartenders are friendly as well. My honest impression when I left was that I was told that their bar pie is great, and I found it salty and disappointing. If you're looking for a very charming spot to stop in for a drink, and friendly service at that, then this is not a bad choice at all. I am so sorry about the horrible attitude of the waitresses. After reading numerous reviews and eating there several dozen times, I have to call the rude wait staff refreshing. In the world of "Hi, I'm Brianna and I'm going to be taking care of you..." or "Can I start you off with some extreme nachos", the lack of formal introductions or upsale suggestions is a welcome change. They're tired. They work hard for their money. If bubbly effervesce is your choice, there is a Chilis or Applebees a short ride away. The place is a dive. A dive that serves really good food and drinks. Their pizza is great, their salads, meh. But their ribs are awesome and more than make up for the unimpressive salads. They also have a pay phone. I like places that have pay phones. You never see pay phones anymore. More places should have them. They bring back an era before waitresses became servers and felt it absolutely necessary to introduce themselves because God forbid someone fills out an annoying online survey and mentions that they didn't, they're screwed. The Landmark has no online survey and if they did, I would give them all 10s and yeses. Can't say that for their cheerier competition. And did I mention that they have a payphone? read more

It's pretty much an unbreakable combo. I know grilled cheese well, and I also know that a grilled cheese craving can be hard to ignore. Because of that, I found myself at Landmark while running some errands in Livingston. Everything about Landmark was cute, minus the grilled cheese. I loved the small town feel -- you can definitely tell that it's the type of joint where everyone knows each other. They've got a very expansive menu with just about every type of fried and greasy option imaginable. There was cheap beer and football on every tv. But, amidst all of this awesomeness, my grilled cheese was lackluster, ill-prepared and just straight up upsetting. The bread was soggy and covered in butter, the cheese was haphazardly assembled and the tomatoes just tasted weird. The highlight of my meal was the pickle spear. My BF wasn't really feeling his wings either. We longingly gazed at the table behind us, where a couple was enjoying a bar pie that looked aceeeee. Came in with my girlfriend and cousin for a bite to eat. I actually live in the town of Livingston. I've been to the Landmark several times but never had a burger here. I heard they have really good burgers, so I ordered a cheddar cheeseburger cooked medium. It was a good burger but I had much better. The burger doesn't come with any side and the only sides they have are 3 different kinds of french fries. No home fries and no baked potatoes which I'm not a fan of. The price of the burger was pricey for what you get. If it wasn't for the beef nachos, I would of left hungry still. It's definitely not a good choice if you want to eat somewhat healthier. It's a dive bar that's very small and noisy. On a more positive note... My cousin got a full rack of ribs and they were excellent. Meat falls right off the bone. Plus, the price was very fair at $20 and you get a large amount of French fries. Conclusion: if you have a big appetite and don't mind a small noisy dive bar with average at best customer service, come here and order the full rack of ribs. Great value and you will leave stuffed. I went to eat here with my family I guess it's been close to 6-8 months ago. The food was memorable. The fried chicken here used to be amazing. Big juicy pieces of honey chicken -yummy. And the fish and chips were freshly made, not from frozen. I was a regular for those. Well I went on a diet so I've been gone for a few but i needed to treat myself and my family last week...Boy have things changed! The fish was obviously not made on the premises and the chicken were tiny little pieces ...I never even saw a drumstick that tiny before. Both obviously from a frozen bag from the restaurant depot. I commend you for trying to keep your prices reasonable but not at the expense of the quality of your food! Please return to your old way of doing things your fish n chips were the best! Your honey fried chicken also the best. I would've gladly paid a little more for that quality . For $17 for each dish for what we got I felt way too much, it was that much of a departure! My boyfriend's dress work pants got ripped by a nail sticking out of one of the booths while we were out for his dad's 85th birthday. Landmark is probably my favorite place in Essex County, where I was raised and taught about the value of a mom and pop joint vs generic chain. That said, this is always on the top of the list when Mom is out of town and it's me and Pop going to grab a bite and a brew. It is a unique little dive in otherwise pretentious Livingston. The service and clientelle is always friendly, the food is unbelievably cheap, and they are always on point, from the nachos to burgers to pizza, fries, specials, or anything else. The beer of the week is one of those stupid little things to look forward to before you even start thinking about the menu. Don't let the "shack on the side of the road" exterior fool you, this is absolutely somewhere you want to come in to eat and drink. They recently upgraded to flatscreens (I guess everyone has now) make catching a game here much more enjoyable than on the previous tv sets. Landmark also gets my vote for "Most Improved Since the Indoor Smoking Ban." Even then, it was worth enduring just to get a great meal! read more
