Me and a friend are trying different culture each month and trying new foods. This month it is Latin American . This is a small family own business. This is there third year in business. I order Camaron al Ajillo/Garlic Shrimp. You get your choice of rice and plantains. The food was very good in flavors. I wished the shrimp were a little hotter. I like my food hot, not in flavor but when served. The temperature in place was cooler than I like. The people I noticed were carry out. We did go early around 5:15, so traffic probably gets busier in evening. I recommend you give them a try. read more

After coming home from my puerto rico solo trip, I had a craving for carribean/latin america food but didn't know where to go since there's not a lot of options for that particular cuisine in macomb county. I found this restaurant on a whim & decided to try it out. Immediately upon entering, the owner introduced himself and was super friendly. He even let me try the malta drink & guava empandada free of charge which I thought was awesome because I was very nervous about both items & he wanted to recommend them to me. The empanada was good but I wasn't a fan of the malta drink. Thankfully the cuban sandwich was super tasty along with the sweet plantains (I love plantains in any form tho so most places can't mess that up). The garlic sauce with my sandwich was a nice touch as well. Overall, I'm gunna give this restaurant 5 stars because I had a great experience. I've done takeout a couple times since then & the food is consistently delicious :) I wish the side of the sweet plantains were cheaper but thats a very minor complaint. read more

Stopped by Latin Kitchen in Shelby Township and had an amazing experience. The empanadas were fresh and flavorful, the black beans were perfectly seasoned, and the Cuban coffee was strong and exactly how it should be. What really stood out was the owner very authentic and passionate. He took the time to share his background and explain the dishes, which made the experience feel genuine and welcoming. You can tell the food is made with pride and tradition. I truly appreciated the conversation and the quality of the meal. In the mood for something new, I came across a Yelp review for Latin Kitchen and we decided we wanted to try it out. Definitely worth the drive. The unique flavors and textures made this meal. I'm a big fan of spicy foods and was delighted to see that Latin Kitchen was savory and oh so flavorful without being hot. Though the cafe is modern and in a strip mall, the food and decor leave you feeling immersed in Latin culture. We started with the empanada appetizers and agreed, with the two sauces to choose from, this part of the meal may have been the best. The empanadas were the perfect texture, crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. We really enjoyed the sauces. The size of the empanadas were nice; some restaurants we've tried are much smaller. We then went in to choose two entrees that we thought would give us a nice variety: the Cuban pork sandwich and the pork belly meal with beans and rice. Portions were generous and we could not finish our meals. The beans and rice were excellent. Though we both wanted to like the pork belly, it was so tough to chew and fatty that we wished we had chosen another entree. However, if pork belly is your thing, you are likely to enjoy this entree. Live and learn. The Cuban sandwich was excellent and with fries, quite filling. It would have been enough for two to share. Our tab felt reasonable for rhetorical amount of food we had. The service was friendly and attentive. The meals took a while to prepare, as we would expect with made from scratch entrees. We were looking for something new, and decided on The Latin Kitchen. It's in a strip mall, but has a colorful interior. Service was good, and she offered lots of help in deciding. I had the mofongo - I've seen it on TV, but had never had it before. It was fairly tasty, but as some others noted, it was very salty. I'm not sure if that's just the dish or how it was prepared here, but I like salt and it was too much for me. My wife thought what she had was fine. I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars, I'll go higher because maybe it was my unfamiliarity with the dish. If I come back for another try of something else, I'll definitely update my rating accordingly. read more

This is such a fun restaurant in the Washington Township area. I have only been there once but I definitely want to go again and again. The restaurant is a bright area place that makes you not really notice how small it is. I met my Mom here for lunch on a Friday. We had no problems getting a seat, and I think it had something to do with how new the restaurant is. I can see that changing quickly once word of mouth spreads. I went with the Los 3 Golpes for lunch. It was so good. I could not pick which one of the 3 items was my favorite. So, of course, the next time I come, I'm going to try it again. The waitress was so helpful in describing the food options. There are many options that are gluten free. There are so many different drinks to try and I know that I will be trying them all. We were so fortunate to go here for lunch today. Maribel, the owner, was fantastic, both in her description of the cuisine and in serving us. The empanadas are out of this world. Two of us had the Cuban, and it was better than any Cuban that we have had in South Florida. The plantains were cooked perfectly. One of us is a vegetarian and was pleased with the tacos and Puerto Rican rice. All three of us could not get enough of the jalapeño sauce and garlic sauce. We will definitely be back! read more

The staff was so kind! They kept checking up on us and the portions were great for the price. They had very authentic food from all over Latin America. A lot of it was pork and unfortunately I'm Jewish so I can't eat pork. But I got the chicken tacos and it was really tasty. So tried The Latin Kitchen last night and so glad that we did. If you have been to the Dominican Republic and had authentic local food and have been searching for someplace that has it, this is it. The owners are from the Dominican and everything appears to be made fresh. We started with the Dominican Empanadas, got a shrimp, chicken and beef. All 3 were great, and the sauces they served with them were mason. The green sauce is like a jalapeño crème and the pink was a garlic aioli. The jalapeño one tasted like fresh jalapeño, and wasn't hot, it had a bite for a couple seconds but that was it. They were exceptional. My wife then got the Red Snapper which took her back to this little beachside restaurant we went to in the Dominican. It was great. So moist and flakey. I got the roast pork which was amazing. The spices they rubbed it with here right on par with what I had in the Dominican. We also got some sweet plantains, some yuca which was great, got both their red and black beans which both were really good. Their plantain chips we were not a fan off, too dry for us. We will definitely be back to try more things! read more

We have eaten at The Latin Kitchen a couple times and it is amazing. Their Cubano sandwich is as good as any in Florida, their plantains are like candy, and the stuffed tostones (fried plantains with meat on top) are devine. You also need to try the yucca fries and empanadas. Everything we have had there has been delicious. Like all good restaurants, the owner is there taking care of customers, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The only problem with The Latin Kitchen is that it is a 25 minute drive from our place. Hopefully, they will open a second restaurant in Rochester. read more

We had not realized they had opened here already until we were driving by going to The Home Depot and figured we would have a little date night and stop in here for dinner. We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't packed with people and also with the food selection. The feel in the restaurant is cozy but roomy enough that you wouldn't be sitting on top of another group. We did notice there is outdoor seating but not being utilized when we visited. Our choices for dinner were quite tasty. The Pollo Guisado / Stew Chicken (waitress recommendation) with yellow rice, black beans, and Maduros (fried plantain) was fantastic! Bistek Encebollado with yellow rice, black beans, and Maduros (fried plantain) was good as well but the beef was a little on the tough side. Flavor was great though! The stuffed tostones from the starters section of the menu was a great option to get a taste of what a few different items would be like. We really enjoyed that as an appetizer. Started eating these too early to get a good photo, whoops :P We will definitely be back to try some further menu items. read more

Red beans and the black beans- both yum! )I thought the black had slightly more depth of flavor) . Mofongo was perfect. Delicious amazing beef stew and the burger , not an American bar burger, had great flavor and although a thinner beef patty, the cabbage, sauce and roll it came on is more than filling. Thrilled I can get mofongo in Washington /Shelby Twp. Great asset to the community. This was my first time here and the chef/ lady taking my order was very nice helping me decide what to get and even threw in a free beef empanada with my order. I got the Cuban sandwich with Yuka fries and the dipping sauces she recommended. The cilantro jalapeno dipping sauce had so much flavor and was so refreshing at the same time. The Cuban sandwich was big enough to save half for a second meal (was also super tasty and fresh). And the empanada was amazing. The staff was very welcoming and polite. The food is great. We had empanadas with corn outside filled pork, beef and chicken. The pork was the best. We love the green sauce the best. I also got the Cuban with yuca fries with strawberry smoothie. My wife got the beef stew with black beans and jasmine rice with Mango smoothie. All the food was flavorful and well seasoned. The yuca fries a nice but a little over salted but still good. It's worth a stop for sure and will be back. Saturday ares specials that day which they try new things. This place is an authentic Latin inspired restaurant. Tucked away in front of Kohls /Target strip mall is the next best thing to heaven if you are a Latin food lover. The empanadas were ate before I could take a picture but they were as authentic as my partners grandmothers home recipe from Chille. The service was outstanding and our server was so patient with all of our questions. We got a free flan for being first time customers. I highly recommend this place the plantains were delicious, the seasoned rice and black beans were seasoned perfectly and the pork belly was so crisp and full of flavor. We order the beef stew, garlic shrimp, and traditional mofongo. Everything was absolutely delicious and good portions. The flavors of the dishes were amazing. One of the employees told us when we came in that the wait was going to be longer than usual (because they were one of the few places open on July 4th) and made sure we wanted to stay because of the wait. The employee apologized again for the wait, later in our service. At the end of our service, the employee gave us complimentary flan for the wait. We appreciated how much the employee was concerned for our time and worked to make sure we had a good experience regardless. The flan was also some of the best flan I have ever had. I wanted to love this place. I came with a friend, and it was not busy (3 tables; with a couple on the way out.) The staff seemed to be focused on an issue at a table and it took some time for them to be available to take our orders. After we placed our orders it was 45minutes, at least for us to get our food. 45 minutes. I ordered Dominican empanadas and my friend had chicken mofongo. I got the guava, veggie and shrimp empanadas- the shrimp was the best. The veggie one had a small amount of the frozen veggie mix (bean, corn, carrot cubes) and was pretty flavorless, the guava was good but no fruit chunks, all liquid syrup. The sauces on the side were good. My friend said hers was really good, and she hoped for more for the price. I likely won't be back. read more

On my way to 'Home Depot', I noticed a new restaurant just opened up on the same compound -'The Latin Kitchen'. Decided to check it out, and I'm glad that I did - what a pleasant surprise it was! We had very little to no idea about Latin cuisine (this restaurant serves food from the Dominican Republic) , but the owners/servers made us comfortable quickly and explained the menu so that we could choose appropriately. It is a family run business - everyone was really nice and made us feel at home. We ordered different dishes, and the food came out fairly quickly. The empanada shrimp had cheese and shrimp filling and was served with a green sauce (really delicious). I had the roast pork (Pernil) - it was served with brown rice, beans, and a salad. The pulled pork was really tender and went great with the brown rice cooked with pinto beans (the rice had a pretty unique taste/texture - strongly recommend trying it with the beans). My wife tried the garlic shrimp with brown rice - she enjoyed it very much. My 6 year old had the stewed beef (La Bandera) - it was seasoned well, but I wish it was a bit more tender. My 9 year old had the chicken chunk dish with rice - he enjoyed his meal as well. The owner's wife was really kind and checked on us several times - she graciously offered us beef empanada and flan dessert on the house (since we liked all the dishes so much!). Food, service, and ambiance wise, we really had a great time there - planning to go back to try the sandwiches (heard they slow cook the meat - yum!). read more
