THE LEGO STORE @ UTC LA JOLLA Parking here is ONLY one hour... which is honestly one of the most outrageous things Westfield UTC has done. Parking already takes about 15 minutes because it's stressful, a lot of the structures are one-way, and it's just overall a hassle. So having only one hour feels kind of unrealistic. Just a heads up, after that first hour, it's $2 per additional hour. I'd definitely recommend going in with a plan of where you want to go so you're not rushing. My friends and I went on a Thursday evening and stopped by the LEGO Store, and it was actually such a great experience. It wasn't too busy (definitely better than weekends), and the staff were super friendly. My friend had been eyeing this pirate ship set forever, and they finally had it in stock but it was a whopping $400. They ended up getting it, and the staff even gave us a small free Easter-themed LEGO set, which was such a cute bonus. The store itself is on the smaller side, but they had a solid selection and a lot of items restocked. Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're into LEGOs! read more

I had a miscommunication over a creativity workshop that ended up with me not going due to some misinformation given by another employee at a different store (who happened to be helping out for the day at this one). Needless to say, I wasn't very happy so I did call the store to express my frustration with the experience. However, Leo, the store manager made it right!! He offered to make up for the experience and threw in some bonuses too! He was very kind and apologetic and definitely made my kiddos' day!! Thank you! Honestly I liked the staff at this Lego store more than the one at Fashion Valley. The employees were very friendly and helpful. I recently got the Lego passport at the fashion valley mall and asked one of the employees for a passport for my friend. He quickly ran behind the register and pulled out two assuming I didn't have one, which was thoughtful. I showed him mine and offered to stamp it, as well as my friends. He asked us where exactly we wanted the stamps and which ones as they had more than one. read more

Store for the most part is usually well stocked but occasionally will have some hot items out of stock. And I usually come over here for Christmas and birthday gifts. The place is usually pretty neat but at busy times the build a minifig area is pretty messy. The staff is pretty knowledgable for the most part and if they can't tell you much they usually find someone who does. Which leads me to my one star review. The one worker there was pretty unprofesional, for the one worker named Leo, the attitude was like I was bothering him and he was trying to get rid of me, he was busy talking to a coworker and it seemed like I was getting in the way of his flirting which already made me feel like the atmosphere was unprofessional and seemed uncomfortable for me and I guess he didn't like me interrupting him. This lego store has a pretty good selection of sets. You can also build your own characters or something else with legos at the back of the building. They have all lego sets like ninjago, speed champions, batman, harrypotter, lego city, and wayyy more. The staff are pretty helpful if you need help doing something or finding something. For some sets, it shows what it would look like if you built it. The bad thing is that sometimes it can be crowded and theres not much space in the building. The Lego UTC store has the nicest people working there! The staff is very helpful, knowledgeable about product launches and retirements; as well as happy to assist with building techniques (adding motor to trains during Xmas brought me back!). Spent an afternoon walking around UTC mall waiting for dinner reservation and my little sister wanted to shop since it was her birthday! The staff was super friendly and since it was my sister's birthday, she was able to make a little lego figure for free. It was a sweet surprise! My other sister found this cute postcard lego set of London sights. She recently went to London and wanted to make it as a little memory of the trip. Great store! Not sure why the reviews are so low. It's next to Abercrombie & Fitch. They have some exclusive items. Some items are sold-out, which is a bummer, but you can check ahead of time online. Pretty great LEGO store. We were helped by Nicole, who was kind enough to demonstrate specific legos we were interested in out of the display case. She let the kids play with them and was really helpful in answering questions. We ended up purchasing some other legos and checkout was seamless. Overall, I like this location, considering I usually go to South Coast Plaza, which is a lot more crowded and where the employees aren't as nice. read more

This Lego store is very sad compared to the one in Fashion Valley where it is much larger (or at least it feels much larger!). However, being so close to UTC, I like the convenience of just being able to drop by this Lego store whenever I want to browse the amazing sets that Lego has to offer they still have some great Lego builds on display. However, I feel like some of the Lego displays, like the storm trooper was rather dirty after a while and it didn't look very nice. Pre-covid times - I have never experienced any problems with the staff here. In fact there was one worker who was helping people find the minifigs they were looking for in the Fantastic Beasts minifig packs when I was there, and he was fantastic, just feeling around and knowing exactly what the minifig was. At the time I was looking for a Dumbledore and he was able to find it for me without me buying all these packs in hopes I'd get the one I was looking for or go on Amazon and pay a much higher price. So, I was very thankful for him! Covid times - The store was never full to the brink of things, but they have GUTTED this place to allow for more social distancing. There used to be several Lego .. stands (I don't know how to d escribe it, where they sell smaller legos, including minifig packs in the center), but now there is the only one. Of course they also removed any models in the center as well as play areas for kids. At the time I went I was disappointed that the door was closed as this prevents good air flow. They had these HUGE humongous plexiglasses in front of the cashiers. At the time only one worker was behind the cashier and the other was putting bricks away. Both were wearing masks. I was looking for a Christmas ornament set that had been sold out online and the worker asked me if I needed help and directed me immediately to where it was without even needing to move. She rang me up and I was out of there. Was an extremely quick and efficient trip. Of all the times I've been here I have never had an issue. Looking forward to when things go back to normal-ish and Lego items can be out to play with again! read more

One of the things that's been lacking at Westfield UTC is more stores for kids (and kids at heart) - outside of Geppetto's and possibly Sloan's, there isn't much. So, welcome to the newest Lego Store, which just had its grand opening today! Even though it was a Friday morning when I came by to check out the place, it was packed full of Lego aficionados... parents picking up kits for their kids (or themselves), kids playing with the build-a-figure and build-a-car displays, and people browsing the display shelves to see samples of what the finished kits looked like. And, some of the in-house builders have some talent; the movie theater display was actually quite striking. Most of the Lego kits are a bit on the pricy side, and they were out of the minifigure kits I was looking for. Also, this particular location is right next to a Victoria's Secret (and also near the playground by Macy's) - at least the moms can drop off their kids at the Lego Store while doing their own shopping, I suppose. Still, for the Lego fans in your lives, this Lego Store is a welcome addition to UTC (and I don't have to go to Fashion Valley any more when the Lego fix strikes)! read more

Cool store displays and organized areas for play, but customer service here is less than great. I felt as though the staff was just waiting for me to leave so they could, I don't know close early I guess? Maybe because it was slow but that's not a reason to continuously remind a guest of your hours, it wasn't closed yet. We visited here on Friday later afternoon to find something for my niece and had nothing but a great experience. We came in and were immediately greeted by a decently tall dark blonde/light brunette woman wearing glasses (sorry didn't catch the name) and she was lovely. I got interested in the Super Mario sets and was trying to figure out which set was the starter to all the available expansions and she explained how that all worked out to us and also suggested some other sets within our general interest as well. After a while of looking we decided to leave and visit the toy store across the way, but promptly returned. Again she greeted me kindly and let me shop easily. As we looked around and picked out one of the Super Mario expansion sets, a taller guy (I think his name started with a D maybe?) offered to hold it for us and chatted us up since we wanted to get a set for ourselves as well. He gave some really great recommendations and advice, and without me having to ask, mentioned the little surprise packs of characters for the Super Mario sets (which I initially was looking for but didn't bother to ask help with thinking they didn't exist). He picked one out after asking if I wanted one and held that for me as well. He showed us the Christmas sets mainly due to my interest as well as a few similar things and then let us browse more before we decided on a Spider-Man set. We walked away with three items and a GWP. It was a very pleasant shopping experience especially due to those two staff members, but wish the company itself had anticipated more how popular the Super Mario starter set would be and provided more since it's the only one with Mario. read more

This is the worst Lego store I have ever been too. Go to Fashion Valley they are a ton better. I went in for the new super Mario starter set. They ran out I get that but after knowing how down I was that I missed a new shipment by one day. They went on to tell me they had the free expansion set but I couldn't have because they ran out of the starter set. I asked if I bought it on line if they could give it to me and they out right said no. I offered to buy the $250 Nintendo system set flat out out told me no. This is also of course after spending $100 on other things since I was already there. Anyways they lost about a $400 sale all over a free set. I have had the fashion store go out of there way to make the impossible happen, always making sure you walk out with a big smile. read more

Nice and roomy shop located in the UTC Mall. Usually pretty busy. For this particular visit, I arrived on the morning of the first day of their double VIP points month, which I heard about online, determined the biggest bang for my buck and picking up the Holiday Train Set and the Disney Castle Set. Upon first arrival there were about 4 workers on the floor and 2 at cashier. Two of were workers were free, so I walked up to the closest one and asked about the Double VIP point promotion. He had no clue about it, and mentioned that they had a promotion of double points for Star Wars sets a weekend before. I was sadly disappointed, and decided to just walk around the store and look at the sets I wanted. They sadly had already run out of the Holiday Train Set, then I hooked around the cashiers to continue looking. I then overheard one of the cashiers talking to a customer they were ringing up, and they mentioned Double VIP points for the month! So I double checked with another employee, and yes! They were running the promotion! But, sadly they were out of the train set... Luckily, I turned around and saw one last Disney Castle. I quickly grabbed it and made my purchase! The cashier forgot to give me my gift of a free Lego advent calendar, but before I could even bring it up she noticed it after ringing me up. She got the quick go ahead from her manager and handed me one after some quick register magic. I left quite happy, although I feel that they should educate their workers on all their new and current promotions! I could have walked off sad and disappointed, and them missing out on a 300+ dollar sale had I not overheard from another employee! It was Saturday, 12/28 @ 1pm, my wife and I were looking for legos for my niece at The LEGO Store. When we walked in no one greeted us welcome like the other stores at the mall. We walked around looking but no one approached us and asked if we needed help or had questions. Yes there are people working here, I see them but no one is tending to the customers. Needless to say we found what we were looking. We head over to the cashier. No hello at all. I had to initiate the how are you and good afternoon. Cashier didn't have a smile, didn't look happy and the same for all the workers, like they didn't want to be there. Cashier scanned our item and then scanned a bag that displayed a charge on the register. I was confused because I didn't ask for a bag but I let it go. The bag had mines craft on it. My wife saw another bag behind the cashier, it was yellow with LEGO logo. We asked if we can have that instead. The cashier said that it's an extra charge. Keep in mInd he charged us for a bag already and didn't say anything. We said but you charge us for a bag. Cashier said that it was a promotional item and that the charge would cancel out. We were a bit confused because he didn't say anything or gave in detail at the beginning when he was scanning the items. We just saw the charge. The sales associate next to him working on labels yelled out, "Show them the receipt it'll explain." Wow!! Overall experience was POOR! Poor customer service, poor communication, poor appearance, no pride, bad attitude... should I say more. It reflects a bad image on LEGO. But it's not all on the employees, this is a function of leadership, poor management and accountability. read more

I'm thinking they work on commission because she was a vulture. She didn't want the guy who actually helped me anywhere near the register when he attempted to set down the merchandise to ring me up. I've shopped at the Fashion Valley location a couple of times and have always been given a military discount when asked. This woman immediately denied me. Jay and Leon (sorry if I'm wrong) are the BEST. I came in to make an exchange for a HP set. And use my points for the first time for the Disney Train set. Jay helped me out getting my Disney train + getting my redemption code, then both helped me out with the rest and were very nice, transaction smooth, and patient with everything I was throwing at them. AND THEN 15 minutes later, finding out my sister had gotten me the HP set (for christmas) that I just purchased and had to go back in to choose another HP set. Great place talked away in the mall! We love this place! The store is usually clean although I wish the had hand sanitizers. Hundreds of kids and adults touching the LEGO pieces all day long. It would be great if there was hand sanitizer so people/kids would use it before and after. Anyways. Just a suggestion. The employees are very friendly. We shop here a lot and we found out that we could have opened a reward account where for every purchase you get stars, just like Starbucks, that could be used towards the next purchase once enough stars were collected. Believe me. It adds up! When we came home, we immediately went to work assembling the pieces! Unfortunately, some of the pieces just don't want to stick or they attach but the connection is too weak! I've heard this issue is common with LEGO and I hope they address this issue. Upon entering the store, I noticed an employee greet an all White family walking into the store, but glanced and said nothing to me. None of the employees aside from the pregnant employee and the Filipino employee acknowledged my existence at all. Everyone else all stared a me with egregious looks on their faces, especially the pink haired White female employee. Even worse, the manager Leo I believe his name is did not greet me at all or said a word to me while ringing me up. As a manager it is his duty to offer the same polite treatment to all customers entering the store. Maybe it is because I was wearing a Make American Great Again hat, or maybe it was my skin color, but as a Black woman I am extremely offended by the manager and most of his team's poor conduct throughout my experience in the store. Regardless of how they feel, they are attributing to the problems that occur to many other individuals who are simply trying to shop, and I strongly suggest that they to learn how to properly conduct themselves in a professional setting at all times; this means putting logic over feelings. As the only apparent Black individual in the store, it was very uncomfortable to be surrounded by non-Black employees making it very apparent they did not want me in the store. Something needs to be done with the conduct and behavior in the store. read more
