ZERO STARS!!!!! Ruined our family trip plans; completely lacking in hospitality. DO NOT BOOK! We were so incredibly excited to take our kids to NYC and stay at the Leon Hotel this July, but the management completely ruined the experience before we even arrived. My fiancé made an honest clerical error after working a grueling overnight shift and accidentally selected the wrong month on Expedia. He didn't realize the mistake until the hotel sent cancellation notices for the missed June dates. As soon as we were notified, he immediately called the hotel and Expedia to make it right, booking a brand new reservation directly with the property for our actual July dates. Instead of working with us, the hotel management refused to transfer the funds or offer any sort of credit, completely pocketing the $1,000 penalty for the mistaken dates. We begged for a compromise, but they showed absolutely zero flexibility or understanding for a family trying to fix an honest mistake. True hospitality is about how you treat people when things go slightly wrong. This hotel clearly only cares about taking your money on a technicality. We cancelled our upcoming stay and rebooked at a much more accommodating hotel nearby. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. Do not stay here. From the moment we checked in, it was clear the A/C wasn't working. I gave it time, but hours later it was still 76°. After calling the front desk twice, they said they'd try to find a portable unit--then told me to crack the window and wait until the next day. I asked for a discount and was told to speak to the manager, who took our room number and said nothing more. The issue was never resolved. The room was tiny (definitely not a queen bed), dirty, and lacked basics--no tissues, no fridge, broken desk lamp, and a view of a noisy A/C unit that made it hard to sleep. Towels and sink were dirty, and the staff was rude throughout. No breakfast offered, either. We couldn't switch hotels because of my daughter's graduation, but this place ruined the experience. No apology, no compensation. Even the lobby was hot. I'm honestly shocked this place doesn't have more bad reviews. Avoid at all costs. read more

This was a great hotel, looks like it's undergone a lot of renovations. Very clean and modern, with a modern bathroom. Location is great, in chinatown. Doesn't have a microwave or fridge, but I knew that when booking, but would have made the experience better. Only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because the renovations are still taking place and a lot of noise in the hall and the room across from us. We did get to access our room early so maybe that one was the only room available, but a heads up, even if upon arrival would have been nice beforewe got to our floor. It was loud and dusty during the day in the hall. There is vending and ice machines on the lower floor with free ice water available. We would book here again!! read more

We booked this hotel last minute to escape a horrific Airbnb and I am so frustrated we didn't book with this hotel earlier! Booking and check in process was easy, and the front staff is awesome. Great location -- walking distance to Chinatown and SOHO! Neighborhood is pretty safe, I am a female and I didn't fear for my life while walking around at night so that's saying something. There is also a passcode you will receive to access the front door which makes it safe. Our room was on the 6th floor. Room had everything you need. It is very modern and spacious despite being in NY. The bathroom was fully packed with lots of necessities. Bed was comfy and clean. Only downsides for me is that there is no smart TV or fridge but that isn't a big deal. Also the walls are a bit thin so you can hear what's happening in the lobby -- but that shouldn't be a big deal if you're only using the hotel as a place to sleep at night. For the price, location, and safety precautions -- I highly recommend this hotel! I will definitely be booking here on my next NY trip :) read more

An Absolute Disaster - Avoid at All Costs! If I could give this place negative stars, I would. From the moment I walked in, I knew I'd made a huge mistake. The lobby smelled like a mix of mildew and disappointment. Check-in took 45 minutes because the front desk attendant, specifically HAFEEZ who's the General Manager, was more interested in his phone than the growing line of exhausted guests. He's also very rude, unprofessional, can't understand a word he says. Rooms are tiny and overpriced. 2 middle aged staff at front desk are useless, ignorant and incompetent. Keys to the room did not work, had to renew it multiple times. Rooms are very outdated with old, worn out furniture and equipment. Stains on the carpet and dust all over the place. On top of that, air conditioning doesn't work. Also, don't be fooled by "free Wi-Fi" -- you'll have better luck connecting to the moon. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! read more

Visiting from Melbourne, Aus: We stayed at the Leon Hotel for a few nights, and overall, it was fine for a short stay. The double room was a good size, clean, good shower and comfortable enough, though the air conditioning didn't seem to work brilliantly given the mild weather at the end of September, wasn't an issue. Typical NYC street noise (Manhattan bridge facing room), but nothing too disruptive. The front desk staff were polite and pleasant, the lady in the glasses was very nice & helpful. No extra fees at check-in, and they kindly held our bags for a few hours after we checked out, which was a nice touch. Security seemed sufficient, though I'd recommend keeping your wits about you if walking in the area at night. While I had no issues myself, I wouldn't be completely comfortable with my wife or anyone walking alone in the area, despite not encountering anything specific. As for amenities, the room was clean and had the basics like a coffee maker and water, but a mini-fridge would've been a great addition. The Wi-Fi worked fine, and the location is convenient with easy access to the subway and other parts of lower Manhattan. Great location for Chinatown, financial district & walkable up to tourist favourites like Katz's Deli, Brooklyn Bridge etc. If you're looking for a budget-friendly spot (we stayed during a UN conference, so everything was overpriced x 2/3), this place is decent for a few nights/week. It's not a place with much of an atmosphere--no bar or social interaction with other travelers--but it gets the job done as a base while exploring the city. read more

-First Impression- Cute lobby, TONS of restaurants nearby. -Food- Complimentary snacks, water and coffee in the rooms. They give you enough for two people, but I asked for more coffee at the desk, because... greedy. -Service- Check in was a breeze. The woman at the desk was super friendly and upbeat. -Price- Reasonable for the area, especially if you're splitting the bill. -Did Not Like- There was a woman wearing a coat sitting in the lobby every time I walked through. When I checked in at 3, she was there. When I went to dinner at 6, she was there. When I came back at 7:30, she was there. When I left for a party at 9, she was there, and when I came back at 2am she was STILL SITTING THERE! And yes, she was there when I checked out as well. Flight prices have been crazy recently, yeah? It was significantly cheaper to travel internationally out of NYC than DC for once, so we made the drive and dropped in here for a night before an early morning flight. We arrived pretty late, but check in was still super smooth! The hotel is decently priced, in a photogenic location, close to a variety of 24 hour parking decks, and within walking distance of several choice food spots and neighborhoods. The room was very cute and clean as well. I will for sure be considering The Leon Hotel for a stay next time I'm in town. It was a very comfortable experience here. read more

Extremely affordable Hotel in the middle of Everything !!! Wow , I was surprised with this Hotel. First is very clean, is renovated , is cheap and the staff is exceptional. I was looking for a hotel just for the weekend, to be relax and I found this hotel with nice prices. I booked the hotel and for my surprised it was excellent. The view is great, everything you need the staff will help you and is no need to call twice, which is a plus for me. This hotel is located in Chinatown , so you will have little Italy near by. The stores open really late, at 10 am! so if you need a pharmacy open before 10 am you will need to walk more than half a mile. The room is not big but we are in NYC lol. For me it was an excellent experience and will reserve again when I want to be alone in the middle of Manhattan. Extremely Recommended read more

This is a good 3-star hotel--nice and clean towels, dryers, closet, iron, etc. The only thing I would probably suggest is to provide two small sets of toothpaste and toothbrushes. The neighborhood is mostly filled with Asian people which is great if you like to feel a little bit of Asian culture. read more

Their "Superior Queen Room" looked nothing like the photos online; the furniture was old and broken, the bed was full and not queen size, the city views were the back of a billboard and a greasy restaurant exhaust chimney right next to our window allowing zero light (city views advertised is an absolutely farce) and AC would not go lower than 77 degrees. Upon asking the manager for a new room, he refused to give us a new room blaming the platform that we used to book. The same person said that he is "just working here"just to find the day after from another employee that he is the manager. These people even lied at the platform saying that we stayed for one night just to not refund us back (we left after 30 minutes). This place is an absolute nightmare.. please avoid it, even if the rates look good. read more

If you want to walk Chinatown , little Italy , soho ..then this little Hotel is a great option !!! I had no problems at all with getting around ; super easy. I was traveling solo and felt perfectly comfortable moving around the area. Kacy at the front desk could not have been friendlier . She held my bag before and after checkin ; got me in early too! I had a 6th floor corner room and the views were terrific! I had a keurig coffee maker and two bottled waters on arrival . The room was perfect for me . Very clean and neat; simple city style . The room was nice ! The bathroom perfect . Nice hot rain shower !! Little wall heater set up a good warm bath area. The views and location as well as a great $$ will have me putting this hotel in my go to list ! Great bang for the buck!! read more

We wanted to visit NYC and while in February hotels are generally cheap, decent hotels are still over $100/night. I found this hotel originally on AirBNB, however only for one night. This is to my advantage because I was able to use my AirBNB credit towards the stay. I went to the hotel's website directly for the second night and found slightly lower price due to the non-refundable rate option. I called ahead about the separate reservations and they said they can link the two reservations together no problem. From LGA Airport, you can take the Q70 city bus directly from the airport terminals to Jackson Heights/Roosevelt Ave station in Queen. From there, you can take the F or M train downtown to 34th St. Then change to either B or D train downtown to Grand St station. The hotel is about 5-7 minutes walk from the subway station. The front door of the hotel literally facing the roads to go across the Manhattan Bridge. If you plan to stay at least a week in NYC, consider buying the Unlimited Pass for $34 bucks, which can be used on the trains and buses. At a cost of $2.75 per ride, if you ride the public transportation at least 13x, you will come ahead. We were only in the city for 2 1/2 days and rode the public transportations 16x per person without even trying. When we returned to the airport, we gave the pass to the next tourists and tell them they have 4 more days of unlimited rides and to pay it forward :) Back to the hotel, we arrived at 11 am and was unable to check-in until 3 pm. We were allowed to leave our bags with the front desk. There were quite a lot of bags there and though they are stored in a small hallway by the restroom, they're adamant to see your luggage tags before you retrieve them. I guess I'd say they're pretty safe there though you can still grab a bag if you tried when the sole front desk clerk is tied up with another customer. We didn't return until close to midnight since we spent the day exploring the city and our luggage was the only ones left there. The lobby is quite small with only two seats available. The front desk staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. Especially the male staff that worked the overnight shift. Even the housekeeping lady and the Hispanic male that vacuums and clean the door windows were friendly. I watched at least three NYPD officers on different occasions stopped by to use their restroom. I'd say that help keeping the hotel safe. Police presence always a good thing to deter crimes. At no time did I feel unsafe walking around the area, even when walking from the Grand St station subway to the hotel close to midnight. There were few restaurants that open late and people were out and about. I even walked around Chinatown looking for CVS or Walgreen around midnight and felt safe. I came back because it was cold and after I looked them up on Google, they were quite far lol. We booked the standard King size room, received room 401. Our first impression? Wow our room is big! I was expecting a small room due to the price and well, it is New York City after-all. We had a view of Lower East Side and partial view of the Manhattan Bridge. The room is well decorated, modern design and nice bathroom. Shower fan made vibrating noise when turned on (we left it off) and the sink faucet have a strong water pressure which made water splash all over the wall. But beside these small issues, we're very happy with our choice of hotel. The bed was comfortable that I slept for 8 hours straight. Perhaps I was also exhausted with all the walking around the city, because in Florida we drove everywhere lol. The room keys doubled as a luggage tag which can be used again when you travel. Really cool! The main concerns I read on here are the odor from Popeye's Chicken next door. Well, not really next door, more like on the first floor of the hotel as it is within the same building. We love Popeyes and infact we just had some today! But I am happy to share that our room 401 has no smell of Popeye's. Maybe because our room is on the 4th floor but we didn't hear the traffic noise either. The room comes with 1 fruit snacks and crunch bar per stay and 2 bottled of Costco water daily. There's also a Keurig machine in the room. Overall, we made the right decision with this hotel and won't hesitate to return to this property when we return to New York City. read more

We loved staying at The Leon Hotel LES on our recent family trip to NYC. We stayed in a suite with a queen bed, two double beds, and two bathrooms. It was absolutely perfect for us. Even on the second floor, we had a great view of the Manhattan Bridge arch and part of the city. The beds were SO comfortable. By the end of our 4 nights, I wasn't even dying to get home to my own bed, like I usually am when we travel. The bathrooms are a little small (standing shower only, no tub), but the water pressure and shower head are more than enough to make me feel great about staying. Richard (he's famous on booking.com) in the lobby was so friendly at check in and helped us out with some good recommendations. John (I think was his name?) was also wonderful, as well as the lady who recommended El Gallo for Taco Tuesday (sorry... can't remember her name either...) All in all: a wonderful experience. We hope to visit again... maybe when our girls are a little older and we won't have to try to navigate the city with a double stroller. (insert lots of sweaty family pics from lifting that sucker up and down stairs for the subway. ha!) Thank you Leon Hotel! We love you! read more

I really wanted to like this place, it's nicely furnished, clean, modern, but it has a couple flaws that kept me from having a good night's sleep. First, I had a corner room, and although the view is beautiful, you can hear horns, sirens, and music blaring all night, there's very little sound dampening by the windows. Second, I was fighting with the HVAC system all night. It's either the AC is on or off, the temp you set doesn't seem to matter. So I'd turn it on, after a couple of hours it would be too cold (because of the paper thin comforter they give you), so I'd get up and turn it off, then after a couple hours it would be too hot, etc. Otherwise room is very nice, bathroom is nice, shower has good water pressure, but I probably would not stay again. read more

Manager and staff are extremely rude and off putting. Rooms are fairly adequate. Location is convenient to bridge. I've stayed twice due to business reasons and each time I've had to disinfect my own room once had to pull hair out of shower...yuck. Make sure you disinfect the window seat!!! I don't think they even wipe them down! Hotel seems to have safety issues, at least I didn't feel safe. And staff was bare minimum and place needs updated security measures. Customer service also could use some revisions. Definitely will not stay here again. Nicer hotels in area that are in same price range. read more

This hotel was a complete disappointment and not worth the money to stay that AT ALL. I had a client fly into New York for a last-minute business meeting and needed a hotel near the venue. After searching for two hours, this hotel kept coming up. The reviews bragged about how great it was but it was far from that. First, the location. While Chinatown isn't perfect, after a day of travelling it isn't the most ideal location. This I understand the hotel can't control. Secondly, there was NO ROOM KEY! Management had to let her into her hotel room. This makes no sense for a women travelling alone. That means anyone could have the room to the key. Third, the furniture was old and torn apart. Replace your furniture! And lastly, they would not provide a receipt of her stay for her records. They stated that the printer was jammed and they could not do it. Listen, I am so disappointed and frustrated about this and will be reporting this horrible experience on all travel sites. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!! read more

I'm so glad we chose this hotel! Since this was our second trip, we wanted somewhere away from Times Square/touristy areas, and less expensive. This location is perfect! Only a block to great Chinese restaurants and a super-cute Korean coffee shop, and just a few more blocks to all the shop and cafes in Soho. Grand St and Canal St subway stations are close by. The people who work here are very welcoming, and helpful in making suggestions - much friendlier than at the corporate chains. Furnishings aren't fancy, but the bathroom fixtures are is modern and nice. The room is about the same size as our Midtown hotel that was nearly twice the price. Same amount of city noise here as we had in Midtown. Next visit, we'll be here again! read more

Great price and it was extremely clean and quiet. The rooms are not huge, but it's a hotel in New York City so I wouldn't expect them to be. The room had several huge windows with deep sills to sit on, the beds were extremely comfortable and clean. The bathroom was modern and, like everything else, very clean. Everything in the room worked and the whole hotel was dead quiet, on the fourth floor the traffic was barely audible, even with the big windows. Staff was friendly and helpful. It does not have a lot of frills, but the price was on the lower end of the 100-200 range, so much cheaper than virtually any name brand hotel even outside of New York. Location was very much in New York City though, right in the middle of Chinatown with really endless great food options. Will stay again. read more

But it's gets the 4th because of Richard, the charming fellow at the front desk who allowed for a late check out when I needed an extra hour for a business call, the cleanliness of the room and it's great location if, like me, you want to be in the middle of the downtown action. I will be updating this review while I stay here. We arrived and I was able to get a cart (but no bell person) to get out Lugguge from the cab as the block the hotel is on was road blocked. After asking many times we were able to convince the person to let us see the room that was reserved for us and to put our bags in there 30 minutes before check in time. (2:30 pm) The view is awesome from the top floor. Much better than the second floor. Not sure why they put us in second floor if both rooms were available - bit we requested to move up and they agreed. I booked through hotels.com and put in the notes that I am requesting a top floor room next to the elevator but my notes did not come through. The room is new and nice and spacious. We had a closet. I know not all rooms do from a review I read. The toilet flusher is semi broken and the only thing the fancy tv can do is turn on and off and mute. So it's the ny weather channel only. They seem understaffed for the 3.5 stars they claim. Not sure if I know what I'm talking about but I have been to 2 star hotels that offer more. All together I think it's too expensive for what they provide. I would rate the hotel to cost about $125 a night. We paid more than double that. Almost triple. That's about it. As if the dirty sheets, messy bathroom and unclean windows wasn't enough to deal with, you have a slew of homeless people outside sleeping, shooting drugs and begging for money. My girlfriend and I found this hotel through a 3rd part booking site after a last-minute decision to stay in the city overnight. Great deal, great view of the Manhattan Bridge, great room. Our 3rd floor room had two plush queen beds, a flat panel TV, Keurig coffee machine, and modern spacious bathroom. The concierges were friendly and knowledgeable about the area-- A big plus when you're an out-of-towner! Would happily recommend and stay here again. There is no breakfast provided (hence the 4-stars), but a short walk down the street is Prosperity Dumpling. STRONGLY recommend you go there and enjoy some early morning dumplings. You'll thank me later! Bottom line: Great hotel in a great location. I will be staying here many nights in the future! read more

I stayed here a couple of weeks ago on a Booking.com deal. I wouldn't necessarily recommend Chinatown as a place to stay, because it's not the most central area of Manhattan and not really where I would like to walk around alone at nice. However, I was seeing a show in Brooklyn and visiting friends in FiDi, so it was centrally located for my purposes. Anyway, I was so impressed with the Leon Hotel! My room was really clean and I had a terrific view of the Manhattan Bridge. It's a busy intersection but the windows were really thick and the only thing I could hear was sirens when they went by, but they were quite enough to sleep through. The room was a nice size and the bed was super comfy. The water pressure was INCREDIBLE - best shower I've had in ages. Some reviews I've seen comment on the thin hallway doors, and it's true that you can easily hear doors opening and closing. However, there are only like 6-8 rooms per floor and I don't even know how many were filled because I barely noticed the noise there. Staff was very friendly when i got there a little early, after I'd dropped off my bag and run around the city a bit. They checked me in about 30 mins early and chatted with me while I waited. I only knocked off a star because of the mild hallway noise and I didn't love the situation with them holding your bags pre-check in. They don't have an office off the lobby, apparently, so they just have your bag sitting in the lobby, next to the front desk. They have a desk agent at all times, so you should be good, but it did make me uncomfortable and wish they would find a different solution, because someone can easily get into the bags if the agent isn't paying attention, and the agent I spoke to told me about how other Chinatown hotels rent almost exclusively to homeless people. Leon doesn't but I imagine they get some less than savory characters coming in from time to time. Oh and another small thing, I was just staying 2 nights and no one had cleaned my room by the time I got back around 2 or 3 pm. After that, I wanted a nap, so I put a do not disturb sign up so maybe they would have come after, but it would have been nice to have my room cleaned. read more

Interesting cross section of reviews for this place. "Eye of the beholder" I guess. My partner and me had to do a quick weekend in NYC to see a sick (terminal) childhood friend. I grew up in NYC and left for the summer of love (actually 1968) and have lived away from NYC since. Air b&b is getting crazy with all the extra fees . It ends up being close or more than a decent hotel. Found the Leon Hotel on line and in spite of the negative reviews, thought we would give it a go as the price was right. Check in was quick, room was clean , modern and comfy. Location couldn't have been better and we had to go everywhere. From the north Bronx to Brooklyn, Chelsea, mid town. D train a quick walk away as was our favorite eatery Katz's. Neighborhood is great. No smells (a few reviews mentioned the chicken joint ), room temp was consistant. No noise in hallways although I could see how the thin doors would bother some in some instances. Nice large window seat for after dinner or before breakfast musing. Wow. Talk about complete 180 with this hotel and its staff. The staff is very young and inexperience. The girl checking in guest was sitting on a high stool and leaning one of her hands to her face. Never seen this at any other hotel. The hotel itself is nice. But I had to deal with Nadia (front office manager) I have never dealt with a more unprofessional human being. I have never been spoken to the way she talked to me. It was so bad that I reported the hotel to the better business bureau. The room air and heat is set by the front desk. My room was 94 degrees every day and could not be adjusted. NOW TO GET TO THE ISSUE- you should read did. Did you know they keep a photo copy of your license and credit card on file for 2 years? They told me its for identity theft. This cannot be legal? accordingly to the BBB- hotels are not permitted to store your sensitive authentication data after authorization has take place. I was told they will be looking into If losing out on $20 made me aware of the scam this hotel is running. It's a win win for me Be aware !! Youve been warned. read more

If you're familiar with the average nightly hotel room rate in NYC (about $250/night) and the average Chinese/Asian hotel and room in China Town (usually clean but shared bathrooms, etc), this hotel is the Ritz Carlton of the bunch, in my opinion! I already knew the price point that I had hoped to pay, and when I went to my other regular and known properties, I was disappointed to learn that there were no vacancies because of the holidays. I was directed to this hotel by happenstance. WELL! Merry Christmas to me! Not only was I surprised by the room rate that I received, (actually better than my regular spots), I was literally shocked by all that I received in the room at that price point. A private bathroom, a king-sized comfy bed, cable television, pretty much up to date furnishings, a beautiful view of the park and Manhattan Bridge? Even a coffee and tea service! The photos of the hotel and room are accurate. I was QUITE pleased! I've read the negative reviews here prior to writing this one and maybe they are true or not. I don't know. I cannot support them after my two day stay at this property. I have to agree with another reviewer who wrote; " The hotel is simple but does the trick." Well... it does much more than "the trick" in my opinion--especially given what one is paying. It's conveniently located, well appointed, clean, and I found all of the staff (5 different people I interacted with) exceptionally nice and accommodating.
