Based on the reviews, I had pretty high expectations for this restaurant. We ordered carry out for dinner just because we had many young children in the family. The food was alright - it wasn't bad, but it wasn't the greatest either. I ordered the crab imperial and that was good with a lot of jumbo lump crabmeat. The Smith Island cake was not good. Tasted almost like grocery store purchased cake. Also, I didn't realize the snow crab kids meal would cost over $20! Our total bill was $300 and I didn't think it was worth that at all. read more

This such a great scenic spot with large amount of outdoor seating and delicious seafood. I really like this spot not necessarily because of the service but more so the ambiance. You are able to dock your boat too and walk on up for a good meal. As a tourist, this is a small quaint town with attractions to offer. I came to this restaurant for drinks, seafood and a view, which I got!! I loved the margarita and we ordered 3 dozen raw oysters. The oysters were very fresh and tasted great. Its funny they give you about 20 cracker packs too with your order...We also got the boom boom shrimp appetizer and the crab chowder (a must!). There was a good amount of crab meat in the chowder and was creamy but not over bearing. The only thing is the service is a hit or miss depending on the server. So I had been craving a crab cake sandwich for the absolute longest time! I stumbled upon this place and they turned my cravings into a dream come true! I popped in on a Saturday afternoon, and they were busy but still had an abundance of seating. I was greeted by warm and friendly hostesses, and seated at an indoor table for one. I would like to note that you can sit out on the water if you choose to as well! My waiter's name was Jeff, and he was on point! Knowledgable, laid back, and attentive. I ordered a crab cake sandwich with a side of fries, and it was all that and a side of delicious! The fries were freshly cooked and very crispy! The crab cake was fried to perfection, and was filled with so much juicy crab meat! I was in absolute paradise during this meal, and I savored each and every bite! Even the pickle was gone! A plate that was once filled with delicious food was now clean to a T! I was satisfied beyond measure! The portions were so generous too! Crab dip so good my mouth is watering as I write this review! When you go here ordering their signature crab dip is a must. We ended up ordering it twice! I had the Angry Style Crab Cake Sandwich; it's essentially a slightly spicy version of the Original Crab Cake Sandwich. I def would've preferred it have more heat. If you sit outside it has a great atmosphere. You're literally feet away from the docks, and some people actually park their boats on the dock just so they can dine in. Went on a trip with friends and we decided to come to the Lighthouse. They were able to seat us very quickly and the staff were very friendly and nice. The staff also easily accommodated all of our requests and modifications. So the service and atmosphere was very nice and the view is amazing. Unfortunately, the food definitely left much to be desired. I had the Chicken Chesapeake sandwich and it was mediocre at best. The bacon was artificial tasting and the crab dip... very so so. Also the chicken seemed more like fajita strips than the advertised chicken breast. My friend had the shrimp tacos but did not finish them and no one requested a box. Everyone loved the crab chips. Overall, an expensive price for very very mediocre food. Service was great and so is the atmosphere. However, the meal left a great deal to be desired. read more

I had a group of 7 people and we had an excellent dinner at the Lighthouse restaurant. Beautiful views of Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay from the restaurant and the patio area. I had the Ultimate Seafood Platter which included broiled rockfish, sea scallops, shrimp and "Original" or "Angry Style" crab cake. My group tried various specials and the crab cake and all of our meals were excellent. Our server Stormy was excellent, made sure our drinks were full, kept an eye on our table and gave good recommendations. ANGUS MY ASS! Me and my cousin went here last night and he ordered the "angus" steak. It was obviously extremely poor quality and looked like it had been cooking for an HOUR that it took for it to come out. Over priced and so disappointing. I couldn't even eat my wings. they were soggy and rubbery. Obviously poor quality, they are way overpriced for what they are serving. We're done with this place. Today was my worst experience at the lighthouse. The flies were so beyond aggressive, we couldn't even enjoy our food. When I asked to speak to a manager, my waiter told me he was busy. The owner is in the building, but he's currently occupied. Bad experience, horrible service, and the flies will run you straight out of the building. We ate here for lunch on Saturday, 8/19. We ate outside and it was a gorgeous day and we were in the shade. The view is beautiful. Food: The clam chowder soup of the day special was so incredibly thick it was like glue, truly inedible. We sent it back and our server was super nice about it and then later told me that they were fixing it, that it definitely shouldn't have been that thick. We got the MD crab soup instead and that was good. I got the chicken Chesapeake wrap and would never get it again. It was way too salty and rich. My husband got the Boom Boom shrimp wrap and that was decent. My friend got the Cobb salad and she liked it and it looked great. Our server was super nice, friendly and attentive. This is a very nice restaurant and the dining is decent. I was In Solomon's island for a fall retreat and we wanted crab legs and/or seafood a during our trip. October is definitely slower season and we were able to find a table. We had a party of 10 and we were able to be seated in a good location and in a timely manner. Our host was Catyln ? And she was nice. Our server was great and she did well with managing our requests and our talkative table. You know how we women get with good food :) For drink, I ordered a strawberry lemonade but it was way to sweet. I ordered the crab tower and boy was it delicious !!! Very fresh and very tasty. I had a taste of my friends buffalo oysters and they were delicious. Now to be funny, but I couldn't miss how the place lacked diversity . I think this place has possibilities because of the location but we unfortunately didn't have a good server. It was my sister's birthday. We planned to have an enjoyable lunch here to celebrate, so we arrived with our balloons and gifts. We barely waited to be seated and were asked if we wanted inside or outside. We asked for outside given the perfect weather. We were escorted promptly to a nice table outdoors. I left my sister at the table so I could move the car and park. I told my sister to ask for a couple of waters and iced teas. On my way back, I stopped to wash my hands. When I returned, my sister had no water or iced tea and no one had come to the table. I noticed a family of 4 that was seated directly after we already had their beverages and appetizers!! The reason I recognized the family is because my sister is in a wheelchair and the gentleman from that party had kindly held the door so I could push her in. Ok, I flagged someone down to explain our dilemma. Then a server comes after at least 10 minutes. He told us nothing about the offerings, the place, or his name. Okay we ordered. My sister liked her appetizer-- boom boom shrimp. If you like Mayo and hot sauce on shrimp you might enjoy it. She also ordered chicken tenders and fries. I ordered the house salad and grilled chicken. That was the worst lettuce. Do you know how where the lettuce is cut and it turns brownish and dry? I looked and waited and waited and when I finally found our server, I told him the lettuce didn't look fresh or taste fresh. He replied, no it is cut every morning. I told him again that I'm looking at it and tasted it and it's not fresh. He took the salad and walked away, but said nothing! I asked another server to please find him and tell him I would like to order something else. He returns and hands me a menu. I didn't take the menu because by the time he returned, I had viewed the menu online since he took so long. I ordered the shrimp and fries -- it was just ok. The entree was fresh and not flavorful. My sister asked for a to go container for her chicken tenders. He brought the container after another good wait. The server never filled our water or asked if we wanted more tea. He would pass by and give me a thumbs up. We definitely did not get the service we saw him give the adjacent table or what other servers were giving their tables. For example, he told the patrons next to us his name and talked to them about the menu. When they finished eating and asked for a to go container he gave them a bag. There were 3 parties and came, ate and left while we sat there spending half of the time either looking for the server or waiting. I did not want to ruin my sisters day by taking the time to complain to a manager. We asked for a bag, paid our bill, and left. Please do better at making all customers feel welcomed with the same level of service. As we left several staff and patrons said happy birthday to my sister which made for a nice experience. My nephew was visiting and wanted fried shrimp so we decided on the Lighthouse. The staff was friendly and efficient. We shared an appetizer of fried calamari which was literally some of the best I've had in a couple of years and lovely hush puppies. Both items was fried perfectly, crispy yet tender. I had the cream of crab soup which was thick and while it wasn't the best I've had, it was enjoyable. It had a nice crab flavor even though there wasn't a lot of crab in the soup. I ordered a side salad and the bang bang shrimp. The salad was fresh and delicious but the bang bang shrimp was loaded with so much of a Mayo/type dressing I had to scrape it off to eat the shrimp. I wouldn't get the bang bang shrimp again (not a fan of Mayo). My nephew ordered his fried shrimp dinner and throughly enjoyed it. I ordered the peanut butter pie for dessert and would definitely return for another slice. Smile! The PB pie here was lighter than others but it didn't disappoint in flavor. My wife and I have a favorite couple that we frequently visit in St. Mary's. This particular weekend, we decided to brunch it up at Lighthouse. We were able to walk in and be seated immediately. We even had a choice of inside or outside. Obviously we chose outside. Lighthouse, located right on the water is an awesome place to go for a quick bite and catch up with friends. Our server greeted us promptly and took our drink orders right away. Our drinks came and we added appetizers to the list until we could decide on entrees. We went with the barbecue wings. I'll be honest and say they were tasty but nothing to write home away. I wasn't unhappy with them though as they got me prepped for the main course. I myself ordered the prime rib sandwich that dipped very well in the au jus. I mean if au jus can be perfect, than this definitely was. I sipped and dipped happily. The server checked in appropriately and delivered our food nice and hot. The only small downfall is parking. The parking lot was full but we found street parking within a not too far vicinity. 6/15/21 update. Our party of four arrived by boat about 5:40 on a Tuesday evening. Plenty of free boat parking at the dock in front of the restaurant. After that you need to walk completely through the restaurant and out to the front to get in line, because they don't take reservations. It was packed on a Tuesday evening which is somewhat surprising. We waited about 15 minutes before being shown to a four top in the bar area as we had asked for first available seating. Our server was pleasant and friendly and knew what she was doing. We started off with a shared appetizer of the haddock bites. They were basically flavorless but the sauce that they arrived with had a nice zing to it. Two of us went with the swordfish special which was offered at $34. The other two opted for the haddock broiled. All the entrees come with a choice of two sides. I had a baked potato and some very plain broccoli. Both haddock entrees were overcooked and dry. The two diners who opted for swordfish said that it was very good. If you're going to eat in the bar area be prepared for a fair amount of noise. So with one shared app, two glasses of wine and a beer, tab with 20% tip was a little over a hundred bucks per couple. Probably not a great value considering the quality of the meals being turned out by this kitchen, but not unexpected for Solomon's Island where you are paying for the ambiance and The view. read more

I had lunch with a few friends here on a lazy hot Sunday. The AC was blasting so if was nice to get away from the heat and humidity outside. Our waiter was a young man with very deep voice. It was kinda hard to hear him because the acoustics was so bad inside. Poor guy had to repeat himself several times. He did a great job checking in on us throughout our meal. Our food was delivered at a very reasonable time. We ordered the bang bang shrimp and hush puppies for appetizers. The shrimps were much better than the hush puppies. The lunch menu had salads and a lot of sandwiches. I would have liked to see some other options. Two of us ordered the special of the day which was the soft shell crab sandwich. Another friend ordered the burger which is HUGE, like he cut it in half and still had problems fitting it in his mouth! I used to order from here multiple times a week. Unfortunately the execution of menu items is unpredictable and more often unsatisfactory. Today i requested the mixed grill special with the filet mignon kebab well done - parts of it was RAW!! Good luck placing an order on the phone because the staff who takes orders never know what the specials are - or how to enter them in the system. I appreciate that they use toast for online orders but the specials are never added so I have to call. I do love that they have weekly specials, and beautiful decor and view. I hope they improve with the customer service and food preparation so we can again be frequent customers. We would also love to see quality brands and selection of tea - that may sound random but basic dollar store brand tea has no place in a restaurant of this caliber! read more

I was finally able to drive 88 miles from VA to the Lighthouse Restaurant & Dock Bar. I hadn't been there since it was rebuilt after the fire. The crab imperial was absolutely scrumptious. Honestly, the best recipe I've ever had. I highly recommend it even after a long-distance journey to this restaurant. I can't wait to go back. It was a beautiful Spring weekend and everyone was out and about. Since we are still in COVID times, the restaurant had pared down their capacity so we were told the wait was going to be 40 minutes. I think we ended up waiting about 20 minutes and got a outside table overlooking the water. Friendly and quick service. The food was da bomb!! We started with the crab soups. They have a cream of crab and a veggie crab soup. Then they had the half and half which I thought was going to come in a bowl with a divider separating the two soups. To our surprise, the half mr and half was actually a mix of the two. Sounds weird but it was DELICIOUS! So good that my aunt ended up ordering another 4 bowls to go so she could share with her friends. For appetizers we shared the boom-boom shrimp (tasty!), friend pickles (again sounded weird but ended up a pleasant surprise), and the crab tower (lump crab, diced avocado, mango salsa, yum). For the main event, I tackled the Original crab cake sandwich. Oh so good.... I really shouldn't have eaten the whole thing after the soup and the appetizers but I just couldn't stop. We both shared an order of hush puppies and had a sandwich each with a beer and the tab came to 87.12!!! Price of each of our sandwiches-he had a fried soft shell crab and I had a crab cake sandwich-was listed as "Mkt" on the menu. His sandwich was $24 and mine was $32 PLUS $2 FOR FRIES WITH IT!!! With ALL the crab in Chesapeake Bay and you have to charge $32 for a sandwich? Really? We don't even charge that for a lobster roll in the northeast! The worst part of charging that much for a sandwich is you couldn't even include French fries with it-you had to charge another $2 for those. Just another business gouging customers with their greed. Great location to start. We ate outside by the pier & the view was beautiful. Now on to the food. From appetizers to the entrees everting was delicious. Servers are fast, friendly and the last time I went with a group of 12 none including some toddlers everyone was happy with the service. I recommend the wings and the rock fish bites with some ice cold beer. Please don't drive your extra large truck or SUV into the parking lot because it's tight and only one entry/exit. A great place for crab cakes, visited many times, but will not return. The price of crab cakes are thru the roof, But the kicker was when I received the bill there was a 3% convenience charge. With tip a meal for one was over $90.00 and then to place a surcharge on top of that is totally wrong. Nothing is noted of this charge until you receive your check.
