THE HOTEL THAT NEVER WORKS -- AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I have family in the area, so I have stayed at the Line several times. It's close and convenient, but every single time we stay there, without fail, something is wrong -- the internet is down, a leak in the room, heater is stuck on boiling, AC doesn't work, TV doesn't work. Literally. Every. Single. Time. This last trip was the final straw. I booked in advance and paid for a room in full. After an extremely long day of travel, and with family to see soon, we arrived at the Line to check-in. The room was already paid for, but then needed ANOTHER credit card to swipe to put a hold on for the mini-bar, which we had no intention of using. But, alas, their credit card machine was "down." They literally could not check us in. You'd think that wouldn't be a problem, right? Could they use the card they already had on file? No, don't be silly. Could they manually enter my card number? They lack that technology. Could they write the card number down and enter it later when the machine was working? Nope. Could they just let us into our room now and I'd come back to swipe a card when the machine was working? Out of the question. Could they give us a complimentary drink at the bar while we waited? Dream on. Could they even offer an apology? No. Instead, we waited outside for TWO HOURS for the machine to work... so we could swipe a second credit card... for a mini-bar we never opened. We got into the room. Of course, the TV didn't work, and they refused to help. They have a Pelaton in the exercise room, but management told us the hotel didn't renew their subscription, making the equipment useless. And when I went to check out, the woman at the front desk took a TEN MINUTE phone call in the middle of our conversation. Afraid of missing my train, I just left without having my questions answered. A week later, I saw an extra $63 "amenities" fee on my credit card, in addition to the booking and other fees I already paid. I called and explained the situation, that no one told me about this fee, that we were wildly inconvenienced, and that we didn't use any amenities because we were told we couldn't. Did they waive or discount the fee? What do you think? (No) This is The-Hotel-That-Never-Works, with the most incompetent and rude staff of any hotel I've ever stayed in. It's not worth your time, your money, or your never-ending frustration. Please, go stay literally anywhere else. read more

This was practically the only place I considered staying at when I decided to visit DC since I've visited all the other Line hotels. The building used to be a church, so it was a bit dimly lit in some areas. The stairs in the front make it look like you're visiting a museum. The hotel entrance is on the left side of the building. The front desk people were ok. The housekeeping staff were nice. My room was very comfortable and spacious. There was one main light switch to turn all the lights on/off, but you could go to each socket and switch it on/off or adjust the brightness. I liked that they had a complimentary Nespresso maker and 2 water bottles in the room. They had a mini bar fridge and snacks for purchase. The communal area had a good amount of people working/hanging out and dog friendly. I didn't check out the bars/eateries. Lots of bus stops nearby and the subway is about 10 mins away by foot. The neighborhood is ok. Everything you could need like a grocery store, a few good eateries (esp the Japanese restaurant) and a little bit of shopping are minutes away by foot. Mall type stores were about 10 minutes away and near the subway station. Some homeless people and people just chilling in the area, but fairly safe. A small farmer's market can be found on Saturday mornings. If you plan on doing the usual touristy things, it's about a 20-30 minute bus ride away. Overall, I liked my room, but not sure if I'll return b/c it's a little out of the way. read more

Very cool hotel! Only stayed for one night but enjoyed it - rooms are a very cool blend of upscale and boutique. It has a very cool lounge/restaurant/bar area that was converted from an old bank. Also has a cafe that opens in the morning - tried the cold brew and latte, both good! Only complaint is I couldn't figure out how to keep the AC on all night and the pillows were very flat! My only regret about staying at the The Line is that it was only for one night! We are (newly) locals that came in from the NoVa area for a date night for my husbands birthday and wanted to check out the Adams Morgan area. Upon arriving, we could tell the location was perfect for walking to all the bars, restaurants and shops on 18th - exactly what we were looking for. At check in, we could already appreciate all the converted church aesthetic that was restored and modernized. The check in desk was fast and friendly. They asked if we were in the area for anything specific so I told them it was my husbands birthday weekend. He upgraded our room to a better view. He then asked if we were drinkers and I replied yes so he pulled out two drink tokens to use at the bar. The gesture was so kind and the tokens were pretty cool as well. We got up to our room which was stunning and surprisingly spacious for a converted church hotel room. Later in the evening we hit the bar, located to the side of the stunning restaurant area. Our bartender was friendly and attentive. I was worried at the service we might get for using free drink tokens but the bartender didn't miss a beat. He even brought over an extra glass of wine he thought that I might like to try. We ordered an additional round of drinks and tipped appropriately for the exceptional service. Overall, we plan to return to The Line, possibly with our kids so we can hit the National Zoo which is also close by. Definitely check it out if you get the chance! read more

The most adorable hotel in all of DC. Yeah, I said it. I've stayed at a handful of DC hotels in different neighborhoods, all for work, and the Line DC is by far my favorite. The room had personality and I wish I had stayed for more than a night to enjoy it. The staff is also super sweet -- the front desk noticed my birthday was coming up and upgraded my room. it was a sweet touch, especially since it was my first time staying at the hotel. The downstairs restaurant was great and I didn't have to wait to get a spot at the bar. When I travel alone, I love to sit at the bar and read while I enjoy my dinner and sometimes, bartenders can be overly attentive. The bartenders here know how to read people, when to take plates and ask if you want another round. Not to mention, the bar was lively without being obnoxiously so. I stayed here for a wedding The hotel is beautiful and nicely decorated. The food my husband and I had (we had dinner as well as breakfast) were delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although I will say, from being out of town - it was a bit confusing in which floor the actual check in desk was. Love the place! It's original, rooms are ... roomy, well decorated and have a soul and ambience to it. Hotel and dining area definitely have a soul and potential. One star off is for service. It's not terrible, but somewhat subpar. If room service could do a proper cleaning the place could definitely move from funky to great. read more

I booked a reservation on July 22 for January and when I went to hotels.com to check my booking today (8/7) it said canceled. I did not receive any email stating this. I called the hotel and the person that helped me claimed to be new. She said they had overbooked therefore my reservation was canceled. What a lie this is. The Line Hotel canceled my reservation so they can make more money off guests that are staying there during the inauguration. I book through Hotels.com all the time and this has never happened. We stayed here for a night out. I was confused with the vibe of the hotel. I thought it was supposed to be classier than it was. The floral arrangement at the front desk looked pretty bad. It didn't look professional at all. The room was okay. I think the receptionist said it would be two queens but it was two fulls. Again, I wasn't sure what the vibe was.. the rooms were comfortable but decor was kind of odd. When we came back from dinner and drinks, the lobby area was super loud from a wedding party. I think we were waiting for my sisters Uber around 2am. The music was still booming. I think I just expected more for the price point and for the name. read more

I just enjoyed a couple of really nice days at this beautiful hotel in Adams Morgan. I'm not going to go into a ton of detail here except to say that the hotel is worth the money and you will not be disappointed. Special shout out to the car valet Tamerat. One of the fancy hotels located in Adams Morgan. We were here to celebrate our friends birthday party. She got a nice surprise from her BF when he said that he has booked a room for them for that night. We checked out their room and other amenities of the hotel. Rooms were pretty fancy. We ordered cocktails and light bites in the bar area. Cocktails were pretty good. I had hotel National which was a nice. Very refreshing. They also have a small Japanese restaurant which takes in about 10 people at once. To get a seat there you have reserve way in advance. Menu had some chef specials. May be next time we will plan ahead and hopefully we can get in. Since it's a fancy hotel, Price is on the higher end. We found free parking pretty close to the hotel near the residential area. Comfy & Hip! I stayed two nights and my room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. I love the antique fixtures and complimentary eco-friendly water. I didn't hear the loud action at night from my room. The hotel has a nice rooftop, 24-Hour fitness center, free WiFi, pet friendly, and on-site parking and valet. Shout-out to Rachel, on-site manager, who went above and beyond to make sure I had an amazing experience. She was welcoming and accommodating, allowing me to move to a different room away from the stairs. It was a lovely stay and I highly recommend The LINE. read more

We stayed at The Line DC for our anniversary weekend. When I asked via text (in response to an initial text from the hotel) to arrange for champagne and flowers, I was met with a response that we needed to use "the app," which was not introduced or evident to us. In the end, we did not get what we wanted. Upon arrival, we were greeted by surly front desk staff. Although there was no one else in the lobby, one of the people merely played on her phone while we waited to check in. We were met with a nasty response when I inquired about checking in, so the other person, who was not much more friendly, checked us in. The other front desk person lost her temper and left on her "break." When I asked for the person's name, the other did not know it and merely informed us that she was "new." We asked the manager to contact us, but this never occurred during our entire stay. We arranged for a late checkout for an additional fee. However, the housekeeping staff twice entered our room inquiring about when we were leaving, interrupting our early afternoon and asking if we had informed the front desk. Of course, we did - and we were charged for it! The only time service was on par was when ordering extra coffee pods which were delivered quickly. Even so, the staff were not in uniform and had no name tags. The coffee was delivered in a brown paper bag. The Line may have a unique design, albeit a bit dated and tired, but the customer service was a major letdown. We strongly advise against staying at The Line DC. There are numerous other superior options in Washington, DC. Despite the hotel staff's lack of hospitality, the restaurant staff at No Goodbyes was terrific. Kudos to Hannah, our server, and the bartender. The food and drink were delicious. Go to the restaurant and skip the hotel. read more

I live in D.C., so I haven't had the pleasure of staying here as a guest. However, I visited their bar and really enjoyed it. It was pretty packed on a Saturday afternoon, but we were able to get a table in one of the side areas that was pretty secluded from other patrons (definitely a good thing in these times). I don't quite know how to describe the ambiance other than to call it moody and we were really into it. It was on the darker side, lots of cool furniture, accents and details, and definitely good for a midday date. They were also playing really good music, which made us hang around a bit longer. Our waiter was super cute and told us all of his favorite things on the menu. We ordered a couple of rounds of cocktails and a light appetizer to munch on. Everything we tried was great, so you can't really go wrong. I definitely recommend trying a cocktail that includes bubbly because those were fantastic. One other very random thing I loved is how they had these essential oil hand sanitizer sprays at each table. They smelled so good and I love that they though of this detail. I really expected more from this place. Given that it's in one of the most beautiful venues in town, I wanted to have a relaxed, chill place to grab a couple cocktails outside the craziness of AdMo. The drinks here are fine, but we were rushed by the server who pushed us when we were barely a couple sips into our cocktails. Last call is surprisingly early too. The LINE is new since I lived in DC so I was excited to check it out. Unfortunately, I had issues with hot water two of the three days I stayed here. Day 1 I ran the water for 15 mins and then called the front desk for assistance because it was ice cold. They sent up a tech 15 mins later who did a few things and told me the hot water takes longer because I was showering when there weren't many others showering. He told me to run for another 20 mins to give it time to warm up -- it did. Day 2 (I showered again at a time others weren't) I ran the water for nearly 30 mins before walking down to the front desk. They said they'd send someone but never did. The water was ice cold and never warmed up. Day 3 I showered earlier in the morning and had no issue with the water warming up, which is great. But hot water shouldn't be dependent on the time of day one showers.. read more

This hotel has an interesting vibe. If you need a dark room, then be prepared to be woken up when the sun comes up. The curtains let in a significant amount of light. There was a stain on the sheets. Due to corona protocols there was no maid service so we ran out of towels. Another thing I didn't like was that the restrooms in the lobby were gender neutral. I am all for gender equality but as a woman I don't want to walk into the bathroom and see a man using a urinal. Since we were there for a family wedding I especially don't want to walk in on one of my brothers or other male family friends using the urinal. Great location to celebrate my 25th birthday while also having a short "staycation". Not once did I feel unsafe during my stay, either in my suite or any of the public spaces such as the lobby or rooftop bar. The hotel ensured sanitary standards were followed due to the current pandemic. My partner contacted the hotel numerous times in the weeks leading up to our stay to schedule a sweet surprise for me in the room once we arrived and it was executed perfectly. The staff has been nothing but friendly, attentive, and extremely accommodating. Special thanks to Kateryna, Samuel, and Crawford. The rooftop offered beautiful views of DC while enjoying a cocktail or two. I personally love that the The Line is not located in downtown as there's space to breathe while also being close to the action. Adams Morgan has plenty to offer in terms of restaurants and other activities. The suite exceeded my expectations. Spacious layout with adorable and tasteful decor throughout, plus I had one of the most peaceful sleeps I've had in a while on their bed. Only small con I found was the room service from Cafe Spoken for breakfast. Food was delicious; however, I could not take more than a sip of my coffee as it tasted nothing like I ordered. Thank you to The Line DC for making me feel special for a weekend during these stressful times. If you need a full nights rest to function the next day, I would avoid The Line DC. When I made my reservation, I asked for a quiet room. When I checked in I made sure to remind the woman at the front desk, that I needed a quiet room. She decided to place me on the 4th floor. I have been continuously woken up throughout the night and morning. This floor has some kind of engineering mistake. Every time someone opens their door on this floor, my door shakes violently in it's frame. It sounds as if someone is trying to break in. I am sleepless in D.C. and now have a headache from lack of sleep. This ruins my full day moving forward. This was not the experience I was hoping for. The Line DC is not a good place for sleeping. read more

My partner and I had dinner there last night and it was wonderful! We sat at the bar, which we love to do, and Andrew and Finn took great care of us there. Phil, the head chef, took the time to drop by personally several times to check on us and that was really nice when he was busy running the restaurant and also a really large wedding! We had the cauliflower appetizer, which was tasty and spicey but so perfectly flavored. Then my partner had a wonderful steak with veggies and I had fantastic short ribs which were absolutely delicious! I didn't even need a knife... the meat was tender and moist and a fork was more than enough. The bed of veggies was a perfect complement. I then had the panna cotta for desert which was divine... sweet, flavorful, with hazelnut and pear. We'll be back again to see what Chef Phil is up to and we highly, HIGHLY recommend a visit to The Line for dinner! read more

This is a nice hotel that charges an amenity fee for a robe, slippers, coffee maker and umbrella whether you use it or not. You are not informed that this almost 30.00 per day is added to your bill. This is another hidden fee merely to make the owners rich. I was there three nights, never had the room turned over in order to save money and be kind to the environment. Too bad a neighborhood hotel, one in which my family does business, leaves such a bad impression. I really appreciated the warm welcome back I received! When I got to my room and noticed there was no couch like the photos in the website. I called guest services and was told I was upgraded to a Monument Queen room since I am a return guest. The view was AMAZING! I was still bummed that I didn't have a couch because I was expecting company and wanted the room to have other seats than the two beds. Lol (I was recently informed they will be updating the photos on the website so that will be helpful for others as well.) The room was very clean with comfy beds! After studying the room service menu and deciding upon Avocado Toast, I was shocked to hear they ran out! It was only 7:45am on a Saturday! Needless to say, I settled for the vegetable frittata and the fruit plate. The frittata had carrots in it and was super bland! I asked the staff member who delivered the meal, for salt & pepper and butter but it never arrived. The fruit plate was a joke: slices of apples cut into thirds and half an orange cut into thirds does not constitute a fruit plate! That was a waste of money! Dangerously Dark! TheLine Hotel DC promotes itself as a luxury hotel and their pricing certainly reflects that. They seem to be aiming for a retro, relaxed vibe as reflected in dark colors and very subdued lighting. In fact, the lighting is so subdued it makes navigating foyers, elevators, and hallways actually dangerous. The elevators were so dark that it was nearly impossible to read the floor numbers. The elevator waiting areas on each floor were uncomfortably dim. The rooms were at best modestly appointed. The in room dining menu was very disappointing. Our meal came with no condiments and there were few side options. The coup de grace came when we requested a late checkout and we're informed that there would be an additional $40.00 charge. Maybe that has become the norm but it capped off a pretty disappointing stay. O well, the wedding was fun but I'm not sure I would recommend scheduling another function there. read more

Stayed here Thanksgiving week. The entire building is innovative in design, stunning in aesthetics and comfortable in use. Just really loved staying here. Nice coffee shop, very comfortable beds, spacious rooms. Most of all the staff goes above and beyond to be welcoming and helpful. At checkout, the desk saw my valet charge and called to have my car brought to the door. A small thing but saved me valuable time. Just great. I will go back often and you should too! read more

This was a church turned hotel. Our cab driver couldn't find it and drove past it somehow. I wasn't extremely impressed with this place. It was "cool" but the inside wasn't that different from other fancy lobbies and places that I've been to. We sat in the lobby but my friend ordered a salty lemonade (Indian drink) from the bartender who offered it on the house. She thought the drink tasted very authentic. This is a very cool reuse of an old building. They turned the old church into the lobby and built the hotel rooms behind. There are a few things in our room that I find disappointing. There is only one tiny trash can in the bathroom. There is no recycling bin which I think is irresponsible in this day and age. Also during covid when you're likely to do take out and bring it back to your room, there is absolutely no place to dispose of or recycle meal items. There is no hot water kettle for making tea. Also the windows are not the soundproof windows that you would expect in a city hotel. We heard noise from the neighboring club until the wee hours, and then the garbage trucks early in the morning. The windows are also very drafty. The hallways are freezing. Also a very weird exchange at the check-in desk. We booked and paid for four rooms. When we checked in I asked the desk clerk to hold the keys for the fourth room for when my son and daughter-in-law arrived. She told me she could not give the keys to somebody whose name was not on the reservation, at which point I told her that she had just checked me into the hotel when my name was not on the reservation! (It was in my husband's name.) She absolutely refused to hold the keys for my son which was ridiculous.
