I've been to The Little Darlin' before, for drinks and/or crawfish days, but never tried their normal menu items. For a bar spot, I'd say don't sleep on their food. Way above average food for a spot like this. I enjoyed the salmon dish, it was pretty close to restaurant quality. I like that they kept the skin on the salmon, although it wasn't as crispy as I like since it was placed on top of the couscous. The squash was well-cooked as well as the couscous. Just overall a great dish. We also shared the poutine, which came in a huge portion that 3 of us could barely finish. Just overall a great chill spot for a drink and a meal. The place has the potential to be great with the chill vibe and nice backyard seatings with nice music for gatherings. Service was good, and food came out fast for us. Food options are American fusion with the use of Sriracha, tofu and even some vegan options. Price range is about ~$20 per dish. However, the food was probably the saltiest we've had in Austin. We got the seafood special of the day (trout) and a burger and both were much too salty! The queso was ok though. Darlin is consistent each and every time. Such a great patio when the weather is nice, and even when the weather isn't, lol. Drinks are cold, bartenders are nice and the food is damn good. Did I mention the bad ass patio, too? We came on a Tuesday evening. Parking can be hairy on the popular nights but you can park on the street. They ID you at the door every single time, too, so be aware of that. We ordered the Peruvian Mahi which was damn good. With cabbage and yucca fries to complete the meal! We also split the melon salad which was so sweet and delicious! Highly recommend, but I think it's a special, so get it while it's hot (er, cold). We were meeting up with a friend who highly recommended this place. It's definitely got a really great atmosphere with their outdoor seating area; very Texas Hill Country vibe with plenty of seating and a pretty awesome stage. Dogs are welcome on leash and plenty of bowls for water. For humans too, lol they have water jugs around so you can get a small glass of water. The inside was a little too cramped and loud for my tastes and I was initially extremely confused where to even go to order food... turns out, you just stand in line at the bar, tell the bartender, and they give you a number on a standee so they can bring it out to wherever you decided to sit. I suppose once you've been there before, that's fairly obvious, but for a first-timer like me, I stood around like an idiot wondering where to go, what to do, and certainly none of the employees gave me any guidance. All the items on the menu were pretty pricey and nothing sounded all that interesting either; we just got a couple of appetizers to split among the three of us. I wasn't really even that jazzed about the taste. It seems like they do unique menu items that rotate occasionally, so maybe I just went there at a bad time for me. The Little Darlin' is one of my favorite places in South Austin and it's right around the corner from me. It's got a chill open air dive bar vibe with solid food options, with a rotating fish special. The main bar is inside but there's a bar outside staffed during busy times. Drinks are cheap, and they even have a bunch of infused spirits. My go-to drinks are usually a marg or a Pacifico, especially on a hot day. The crowd always feels friendly, laid-back, and full of locals. Many bring kids and dogs, and there's plenty of room in the outside area. The fact that I haven't seen a bachelorette party is a good thing. There's a stage for live music, which I rarely see but you can check the website for their events. One weekend, I saw the end of a drag brunch, which I was glad to know was something that happens here (but who knows for how long given the politics). read more

We were super stoked to be able to venture out now that we are feeling comfortable dining out especially in an open-air space and venue like Little Darlin'! With family/company visiting in from San Antonio we decided to have Sunday brunch here this past weekend and enjoy a nice hearty brunch before they left. Seating is first come first serve so don't be shy about sharing those nice lounge chairs out on the lawn if you got room. We ended up finding a nice 4 top table under the awning which was a perfect sightline to watch the band from under the shade. Since it was a busy Sunday our food was about a 45 minute wait from ordering to arrival which I appreciated the bartenders giving us this info as we opened up our tabs for the time we were there. Both bars "talk" to each other so you can order at either bar as your tab will show up at both which was convenient especially as it got busier and the band was about to play. We ended up getting a bucket of mimosas which was the perfect starting point for our brunch and later turned to local draught beers on tap. Once the band started up we were happy to be able to have a nice cold bucket to keep our brut cold as it was a steamy and humid Sunday. Parking might be a thing if you come after noon here on a Sunday but we were able to park just fine in their gravel lot. As we left we saw a lot of cars parking along the road by the entrance but it never felt "packed" or crowded here as there is plenty of room to hang out, have fun, drink some tasty and cold drinks, and listen to the live band. read more

Moved to South Austin this past summer and frequent Little Darlin' a lot--like 3x a week. It has the exact vibe I want out of a bar and probably my all-around favorite in Austin. The food menu is great. I always get the burger and fries and/or a slice of cheesecake. The carnitas sliders and mac and cheese are fantastic, too. On the weekends, I love getting the biscuits and gravy + eggs, jalapeños and fried chicken. Their infused liquors make for some fun cocktails. Little Darlin has tons of events and specials which makes it easy to frequent and have new experiences. Probably the only downside is service. We arrived right when they opened, and were welcome by a spacious, backyard-like venue with picnic tables galore, natural shade from a giant tree, fans, an eclectic playlist of tunes, doggy water bowls, I can go on... Brunch is offered until 3pm (possibly 3:30, I can't remember.) and had everything from breakfast sandwiches, French toast, eggs benedict, kale caesar salad, and a few vegan options (vegan burger, vegan breakfast hash). I opted for the crab bennie as rec'd by the bartender. And it was all around perfection. Michelada was solid. And the mimos I got was poured to the brim. You guys, I'm smitten. What a cool neighborhood bar! I had no idea this spot existed until a friend recommended it. The bar is a little dive-y inside, but what you're really going for is their patio area. They have a second bar on the patio and extensive seating with a stage to the right. We visited during their brunch and I had their Bloody Mary, which I enjoyed, and the hash, which was excellent. I love The Little Darlin' but I was slightly disappointed by their latest menu change. They took away the Steak Salad. I know from Instagram comments that I'm not the only one disappointed by this. They say you can add steak to their salad, but my friend did this and it was a smaller portion than I remember being on the true Steak Salad. I wasn't a fan of the mac and cheese. The seasonings didn't complement the cheese flavors well, and the breading was overly dry. The unexpected hit of my dinner was the Melon Salad. It was great for a hot summer night. Peanuts were a strange topping to go with melon and chevre, but I'll go with it. All the guys in the group liked their burgers, but didn't seem to rave about them any more than any average burger. read more

This is a great local spot! It's a bar with pool tables and some seating inside (it's dark in there) and plenty of picnic tables for outdoor seating with some twinkle lights. They have a menu with many different options of American food. I've been there a few times and the food is usually very good. Their chicken sandwich is a personal fave. The Reuben is also delicious and massive. I did have an experience where they brought out undercooked (nearly raw in the center) salmon. I had to flag someone down (it's counter-service and you order at the bar) and they were able to give us a new plate with fully cooked (and slightly charred) salmon lol. They were also kind enough to give us drink vouchers when that happened. I'll definitely be back as it's a cool spot, close to where I live, with good food. read more

Since moving back to South Austin from north Austin, this place has become one of my favorites! Their chicken sandwich is amazing, for bar/pub food their menus is surprisingly diverse and elevated without being too much. They do a few dishes and do them pretty well. The staff is friendly and inviting. During the day the atmosphere is even decent for kids, (if they added a kids play set to the back corner, they would absolutely back on parents grabbing lunch and drinks on the weekends) Overall a perfect neighborhood bar with occasionally good live music. My all around favorite go to watering hole in Austin. With a constant menu of the staples that they have found being customer favorites plus seasonal items and daily fish specials, and always vegan and vegetarian options this bar/ eatery has something for everyone. I often fly into town late and Little Darling is there for me with a FULL late night menu until well after midnight. All produce is quality and locally sourced if possible. All breads locally baked and delivered daily. There meats only come from Texas farms and they even served me a 2lb tomahawk steak from 44 farms that was outrageous in size and flavor. Those specific cattle eat a grass that flavors the beef unlike any beef I've eaten in the southwest. The owners are present daily and active in the community with various charities and ALL ARE WELCOME at the Little Darlin. I have taken all my siblings and my 87 year old father as well as my younger children to LD. They even allow dogs. Music happens there occasionally and I've seen famous faces on stage as well as local pickers and rhyme sayers. Thank you LD for an awesome 7 years of knowing you got my back for food and relaxation with very little effort on my end. read more
