I recently visited The Living Room bar located within the W Hotel. I had previously visited another location in Hollywood. I will say the music was good, and the bar overall looked clean. I approached the bar and asked for a dirty martini, specified my vodka preference and requested a lesser amount of the brine. Brandy (the bartender), began preparing the cocktail and I knew immediately that she didnt know what she was doing. I tasted a sip of the prepared cocktail and was very disappointed. I asked Brandy if another bartender could prepare the cocktail. Brandy found Dylan. Dylan was excellent. Dylan asked questions about my preference in vodka, how much brine I's like and asked if I wanted a vermouth rinse. Dylan measure the ingredients well and prepared the perfect cocktail. I was so impressed, I continued to order cocktails from Dylan for the remainder of the night and tipped him well. Later in the night, Brandy reapproached me and asked, "You don't trust me to make you a drink?" I explained to Brandy that once I have a bad experience with a bartender or server, I rather try a different server/bartender. It wasn't personal, but I refuse to pay for bad or mediocre service. While Brandy wasn't rude or mean, I believe she could benefit from more training in cocktail crafting and delivering an experience to the customer. I spoke to Hannah who was kind and receptive to my feedback. I would visit again and hope the next time my experience is even better. read more

Located on the first floor, The Living Room is the hotel bar for The W. I made several visits While in town to celebrate Prince, I stayed at The W and made a few visits to The Living Room. The W was one of the host hotels for the official Prince Celebration 2022 festivities and the official welcome party was held at The Living Room. As to be expected, this party resulted in lots of people who came to dance, drink and to celebrate the 'Purple Yoda from Minnesota'. Surprisingly, this space was an excellent option for the party it has a dance floor area along with a large well-stocked bar which easily accommodated everyone's drink choice. Add to that, they had a few Purple drink specials for the night which were tasty. The bartenders did a great job in processing the nonstop drink orders and the servers were kept very busy throughout the night. When not used for parties, the ambiance is much more laid-back. As the name says, it has more of a 'living room' feel. In addition to the long bar, there are many sections of lounge seating (chars, couches, etc.) which are perfect for unwinding. Even after the party, the bar continued to be well-stocked; so well-stocked that a friend and I made a couple of discoveries while sipping one afternoon. To our surprise, they had a bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle (10 year) along with a bottle of Weller Single Barrel. It's rare to find either at a bar; having both made for an amazing find. My friend and I quickly made it our mission to empty both bottles so we would each have a souvenir from The Living Room (we succeeded). Following the welcome party, the bartenders could have been a bit tired but that was far from the case, they were as energetic and welcoming as they were at the party. If interested in food to go with your adult beverage, they work directly with Manny's Steakhouse (also attached to The W) which means anything from appetizers to a complete steak dinner can be ordered and enjoyed while in The Living Room. On future trips, whether staying at The W or not, I will make a point to stop by The Living Room for an adult beverage or two. read more

Great vibes. They serve food directly from Mannys so it's awesome. Great cocktails. Lovely fire and just a nice place to start your night before heading elsewhere or catch a drink. They usually have a dj which is awesome. The waiters are super nice and helpful and do their best to serve you. Overall this place leaves up to its name. This is my new favorite bar in Minneapolis! Swanky, posh, and not pretentious. The live DJ spins fabulous dance music and people start dancing after a few cocktails. The crowd is classy and it gets pretty packed later in the evening. We went on Sat. night and our vodka tonics were only $7 which is reasonable for an upscale place like this; I'm pretty sure they used Grey Goose vodka too! I didn't even know this place existed until I ate at Manny's; this lounge is like a hidden jewel in Mpls.! I highly recommend taking your out of town friends here. The Living Room has always been a staple when I visit Minneapolis. The ambiance is set up very nicely as there is the main bar area with many sections of lounge chairs, which makes it great for either a group or date setting. The DJ right up front with a dancefloor and typically the music is house or EDM. The décor is high end, to go along with many unique cocktails. It's not the cheapest place, but as I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate The Living Room as the crowd is more mature than other destinations in Minneapolis. I'm not usually a fan of hotel bars and the W isn't a chain that I usually frequent, but I was early for a dinner date with a friend and popped in here to have a beer. Very comfortable surroundings with different seating arrangements - paired chairs, sofas, even a table with a half dozen or so seats around it for when you're meeting a few colleagues. Not a huge selection of beer, but I found something decent and only $5. The focus here, though, is on cocktails and they have a good selection. Pretty waitress. :-) read more

I've visited W hotels in several U.S. cities and I have to say that this version of The Living Room has the best decor and set-up. Plenty of space for sitting as well as a good sized dance floor. However, there is a reason that the place is practically dead until close to midnight. The drink prices are ridiculous and reminiscent of L.A. or NYC. $9 for a rail vodka drink, $7 for domestic beer, and $14 to $18 average cocktail prices. Don't they realize that they'd make so much more money if they lowered their prices so people would order more? If you want to drink here, check out their $5 happy hour from 5 to 7. Otherwise just do what everyone else does and come back around 11:30pm to enjoy the atmosphere and dance music after imbibing at a more reasonably priced bar. read more

We were staying at the Hyatt Regency, so it was within walking distance at only a few blocks away (5-ish?). Saw The Living Room was running a "summer special" menu with $5 eats and drinks so we had to stop by, as I'd been wanting to check out The Foshay and The Living Room had a fancy looking interior I just knew my girlfriend would love (great for pictures). We got one of most of the items on the summer special menu. The drinks were cool, one came "smoking" ala dry ice dropped in. The finger food was delicious. SEE PHOTOS. We came in on a Saturday night and found the DJ spinning 90s Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B. I loved it! The scenery is great and lots of chairs/sofa to sit on. The place does scream money in the evenings. Beware of the coat check! I was there last night and when I went to get my scarf, the coat check girl said it was no where to be found. I went back an hour later and demanded that she return my scarf. After telling her I was not leaving until she returned it, she somehow managed to find it. She then proceeded to make me beg her to give it to me - who are you kidding girl??? I am a customer!!! And you are tying to steal my scarf??? She called the bouncer guy and had me and my friend thrown out - why because you steal?? Several of my friends with me last night had the same issue and she threatened to call the police on one of my friends. If you go here get ready to go home without your coat/ scarf whatever you check.. unreal who do you think you are? Coming here from Los Angeles this place is trying to be a Hollywood bar. I haven't been to visit The Living Room in nearly a year, and after this weekend's experience I remember exactly why I will never return. Yes the decor is beautiful. But I am not a fan of having to shield my eyes because there is something mucho disgusto going on in every direction I look. Between the 50-something business traveling suits looking for a 20-something to take up to their hotel room, the barely dressed girls looking for a sugar daddy, the fact that you can't use the bathroom for fear of catching an STD and the overpriced drinks, this place is probably the most over-rated bar in the TC. Quite honestly, I've never experienced such a blatant display of solicitation in my life. Not even in Vegas. Overhearing multiple "how much for the night" conversations made me want to bleach my ears when I got home. Admittedly, I spent quite a bit of time at "The Living Room" at the W Hotel. Frankly, it's cold as balls in Minneapolis, and I didn't really want to leave my hotel, so there we have it. It's cool here. Happy Hour is tops! Specialty cocktails and select small plates for $5. *Cherry Vanilla Fizz (errr, x2). Ice cold vodka, cherry, agave nectar, splash of gingerale. Served in a very large martini glass. *Prawns: 2 for $5, not bad, sauce a little heavy. *Meatballs with venison, lamb, etc: greek yogurt sauce. YUM. Also a bit heavy on the sauce, but tasty. Stepping away from happy hour, the champagne by the glass is lovely, as is the specialty cocktail selection. Um, hello champagne cocktail with St. Germaine? Yes, please. Only one, I'm tipsy just thinking about it. Service: I have a beef with the W here, and its not about the smiling servers who really are quite adept. But, why are the girls dressed like this? Your whole schtick is super class, and they are wearing skin tight black get-ups (zipped down, hiked up, slit up the side, you get the idea) and nude nylons? They look like Hooters graduates, get them some clothing and something they can actually look good in. I mean, really...nude nylons!? Ick. They look a cut below what they should, and I am guessing that's the dress code's fault, not their own. They're cute, class 'em up! You can also order off the menu from Manny's (steakhouse next door), which is quite convenient after consuming 2-3 Cherry Vanilla Fizz' when a Chopped Salad is indeed, in order. Quickly served right to my posh lounging area! Overall: A posh spacious lobby/hotel bar fit for an after work drink, extended happy hour, chat with a friend, great for groups with lots of plush seating arrangements,etc. The lighting is low (good) and the crowd is decidedly yuppie, but hey...$14 cocktails attract that kind of crowd, I'd assume. If you wish to strut in something sexy, feel like Bond, James Bond while sipping an overpriced martini this is a perfect place for you. Lots of pretty ponies. Fancy is not necessarily classy. Expensive is not always sophisticated or elegant. I think the Living Room tries so hard that it comes across as being a bit pretentious. This place just screams money, which you need a lot of if you plan to spend the evening drinking here. I sometimes have money and if I'm feeling frivolous I'll head on down for a few drinks and some good people watching. They have a very comfortable atmosphere; the place is filled with sofas, over sized chairs, and fireplaces. They have a bar in the center with comfortable stools and friendly bartenders, but paying $8 for a beer isn't something I want to do everyday. The weekday environment is usually low key, nothing too crazy. The crowd is usually business men who are downtown for meeting/dinner/entertaining clients or business men hanging out there from out of town because they're staying at the W. I haven't seen a lot of women hanging out here on week days, it could be that the Living Room is attached to Manny's which serves a lot of BIG red meat and I don't think it's generally a spot a group of ladies desire. However, the weekends are a different story. They have a DJ, dancing and the place gets PACKED! The Living Room is NOT a dive bar, it is not a place for a good deal. It is upscale and classy. They don't need to give you deals because they don't have to. I like this bar a lot, it's just not a place I can afford to hang out at on a weekly basis. The decor is amazing it would be a great place to go to have an upscale cocktail but the crowd that packs this place is what makes me give it the bad review. I went on Saturday with a few friends after an event at The Depot, it was black tie and we were looking to hang out and have a few drinks afterward. When we arrived at the W we were quite disappointed, it was packed with the Ed Hardy wearing crowd, suburban cougars and middle aged men trying to take home a 20 year old. Housed on the ground floor of the W Hotel in Minneapolis, this ultra modern looking bar features a fireplace from the future, over the top decor and a look and feel you think more of LA than say the upper Midwest, but it works here. After watching the West Side Story at the Orpheum, we wanted to relax and have a drink and bite. We chose the Living Room as a trendy, cozy spot. The corner we picked had large high back chairs, big enough to seat two. The DJ was blaring current tunes and the lights were flashing on the other side of the lounge with some funny, young Asian birds dancing poorly. Thankfully, we didn't have to be subjected to that eyesore. I was particularly curious about the "skinny mojito" on the drink menu - the sweetner used was low-cal made of stevia and not the simple syrup in the traditional recipe. Yes, I know, I broke my raw vegan rule, but it was so tasty and thankfully no side effects. I asked for a plate of mixed raw veggies to snack on and they delivered more than I expected, and better! How accommodating! Nice ambience, perfect company, good food, drinks and service, the Living Room was a nice way to conclude the evening. read more

This bar is definitely modern and definitely swanky. Make sure you put on your best duds if you come here. The vibe is kind of techno and there is a DJ who plays tunes. This isn't really a dance bar, but there were a few people dancing when we left. I'm sure as the night goes on, more people start dancing. This is a great bar to go to if you want to chill, but it's a little loud so don't plan on talking to easily. It's also great if you are over the age of 23 and don't want to be surrounded by college students in skanky dresses. Drinks are a little on the spendy side ($12-14 for a martini). read more

The Living Room is in the entrance of the funky W Hotel. As you walk into the hotel you see a swanky, neon pink room filled with over-sized couches and hip Minnesotans, you see a lounge-like atmosphere, this is the Living Room. The ambiance is completely swanky, yuppy Minnesotan. The patrons on this thristy Thursday were coroporate twenty-somethings post a long day at work. The lighting is fun and interesting and the giant couches are welcoming and fun. The different couches are put into little coves that make it an intimate setting for a group happy hour. I had the blackberry mojito martini, it was summer in a martini glass. Fresh berry flavor crossed with the freshness of mint, it was like a summer oasis in the middle of February. How is Kate only mentioned in one other review of this place! Kate was our amazing bartender. She made a mean drink and she had quite the personality. Kate right away lead me in the right direction for a drink. She made me a drink based off what I liked. She then told me about her specialty which is a tequila lemon drop. That was by far the best choice I made all night in terms of drinks. She made it strong and delicious. We came back after our night out to grab another Kate cocktail before bed. She made us laugh, she made a good drink, and we had a good time. What else do you need from a bar? 68/100 read more

I was there with my bachelorette party group, so I didn't "experience" the crowd here. From my cushy spot on the couch, the crowd looked, um, random. In every which way. We had a reservation which meant we had to meet a food/beverage minimum. When it came time to leave, we were about $165 short. We ordered a bottle of Veuve which didn't quite take us up to the minimum but they let us off the hook. The servers were nice and not too clingy. One of our servers was in training and she did a great job! I had two bites of the cheese plate and it was REALLY good! I'd definitely go back here before the crowd forms and have a classy round of drinks and appetizers. read more

Sure, it is a hotel bar, but it is a happening hotel bar (at least later in the evening). The rooms are dark and designed in the style of an Austin Powers' shag pad. With the candles lit and the fireplace going, however, it IS kind of hip & cool and you almost, almost feel like you are in one of the newer Vegas clubs. Drinks are a bit higher priced than your average bar but the selection isn't bad and the service was great. Some time after 9pm you'll notice the buzz increasing as the seating availability diminishes. Thumbs up for: style, lighting, drink selection, Austin Powers hipness. read more

My review might be a bit swayed due to the proximity of the Living Room to my room at the W (where I stayed 3-4 nights a week for nearly a year) but this place ended up being a pretty frequent hangout for my colleagues and I. Our favorite beverage, the Truth or Consequences is a beautiful melange of their house infused jalapeno and pineapple tequila, grand marnier and agave nectar served with a Coronita. We've had many a good (maybe bad) night with a few of these in us. Definitely a must-try here. A bit overpriced but the bartenders are really friendly and their bar food isn't too bad. The cheese curds are delicious, the wings are good and the lamb sliders, though delicious typically left us with upset stomachs the next day.
