Absolutely amazing experience for high tea. The staff was welcoming, the food was delicious and the tea was perfect. The ambiance was relaxing and we had such a nice time. The food is definitely a level above your standard and the staff really made it a lovely experience. One of our servers mentioned she recommended eating something from each level instead of starting with savory and ending with desserts. This was such a game changer for me. I'm usually so over desserts half way through them but this method made it enjoyable to try everything. I will definitely be back.

We came here for the holiday afternoon tea. We made reservations and were seated in the Lobby Lounge area. Nice selection of tea and the food was very good. Sandwiches are bite sized. The scones were tasty and the pastry selection was fancy. Chris was our server and was great! The Christmas decorations were nice as well. Very classy place. We used valet and paid $12.

It may not be the most updated hotel on the boardwalk, but it has everything you need. The staff is always welcoming, the house keeping staff are friendly and trustworthy, the parking lot is gated and secured by a guard throughout the day, the rooms are always clean the grounds are well maintained, and after all the years of being loyal visitors, we have yet to experience anything negative at this property. I love that the grounds are secure and you can allow your children to go into the courtyard area and play the provided games with peace of mind- knowing that they'll be safe. They provide tons of outdoor seating options and grills for tenants, which makes cooking a breeze. In order to enter from the beach/boardwalk, you must have a room key to enter the premises- another awesome perk. This keeps all the riff-raft out of the area. &At night, they also require a room key to enter through the front of the building- which is a newer feature, and much appreciated. You can leave your beach toys & chairs outside your room without worrying about someone coming to steal it. We have locked our bikes up downstairs in the courtyard area & nobody messes with them. The location is outstanding and the entire staff is welcoming, professional and very hopeful. While it takes some planning for the opportunity to stay at the Beach Cottages it's well worth it. There's a Ralph's right across the street so you can stock up the kitchen and save on food. The staff here is extraordinarily helpful. My wife and I are in our seventies and they are so accommodating and go the extra mile to help with all reservation needs. We're going back in October!

We had most of the upstairs space available for the kids including a large and airy ballroom, and adjacent rooms with spectacular views of the bay where we could sit outside on a balcony. There was food offered for the kids including veggie crudites, mini pizzas, chicken fingers and a huge array of desserts (churros, cookies, brownies, etc.) The space is large and inviting, and tropical in theme. Very on brand for San Diego and it feels like you are on vacation when you enter this space. Some of the decor seems dated and was giving "Golden Girls vibes", but because the location and everything else is solid, it does not really take away from the overall experience. The service, from the bartenders who were making mocktails for everyone to the servers who were keeping the food restocked and clearing away used dishes, was very attentive and present. Also snagged the chicken tenders and fries which were great. Another dish ordered were the hamburgers from the kids menu, which also came back as a winner for us. Regarding the drinks, I am happy to report the Froze Rose was a massive hit! None of the tastes were overwhelming, perfectly mixed adult frozen beverage . For being pool side food, I was so impressed by how good the food was. The pool itself is very family friendly. I didn't see any life guards, and I'm not sure if that is standard at every hotel resort pool. There is a splash pad for kids with seating surrounding it, which can be fantastic for the younger kids (younger than 5 or 6) to enjoy some time in the pool as well. I arrived in time for our 6:30 welcome dinner. The food was very good and the cocktails were also good. In the evening light, the resort looked amazing and the views over the bay were lovely. After dinner, I joined four others for a cocktail around the fire and that was magical. I had a bay view and I regretted not adding another day. The room was nice. I could see the ocean but there was not screen on the sliding door, which seemed weird. Luckily it's not mosquito season yet and I enjoyed keeping the slider open. The room was clean so yay, but nothing special. The next day, the meeting room was nice and again the food was quite good, although there was no theme: like Indian rice and some sort of coconut thai fish and chimichurri steak. All solid, but not thematic, maybe they had leftover rice and needed to serve it. I was really looking foward to pool time, but it was very crowded with young kids. So i went to the hot tub, which was quite cloudy. Mission Bay in that area is not a nature experience or looked great for swimming, so in the end, I was just as glad to leave the next day and wound up not thinking I would stay again. For this type of stay, I prefer the Carlsbad Inn, which has adults only hot tubs and such. However, this place would be great for parents, all the rentals and lots of activities. I did rent a kayak. He gave me a triple but just took two seats out but it was too much boat for me and I think they could have done better. However, I loved the front desk staff. They could not have been nicer and more thoughtful. Especially Isabel and the gent who checked me in. They could not have been more amazing and helpful.

There were two restaurants available and they both had delicious options. I believe one of the spots offers live music on select nights. During the day, there was also a little market which offers snacks, clothes, s'more necessities, and more. Additionally, I took advantage of the sports activities by booking the pickleball court. The teas were absolutely delicious, the sweets and savories were beautifully made, and tasted just as good as they looked, and the atmosphere is fantastic. Luxury at its best! This is a five star hotel so you must expect to pay more than for other afternoon teas, but for me, the quality of the refreshments, the atmosphere and the wonderful service makes it worth it. When we paid the check, our server brought us all over a little gift of the creamy Earl Grey, which is their signature tea, for us to take home and enjoy. My only issue and it was not enough to remove a star... When I called and told the concierge I was coming for tea and asked what the parking situation was, I was told that it was $70 for valet parking. Then my friend called the next day because it just didn't seem right and they told her it was $25 for parking if you were having tea. Pros: - the facility itself is impressive and the grounds were well kept - the live musician was talented and even engaged with some kids dancing up front - some of the small bites were quite good including 1 of the 4 savories and most of the sweet eats Cons: - the service was atrocious. The timing and attentiveness of service was some of the worst I've had. And this is unreal because that is essentially what you are paying for on a Mother's Day tea party - service and attentiveness. I couldn't believe for an establishment such as this that the management would accept the awful service. - Timing: We were seated ~30min past our seating time. We were not spoken to for the first ~15min after seating. They didn't adjust the sun umbrella until ~20 min after seating. The food took a forever back and forth due to issues (see below). Then to get our required valeted car - the line was over a 45 min wait (the line occupied the entire front of the hotel)! - Attentiveness: We were seated in the direct sun despite requesting to not be. We informed them of a walnut allergy for one of my kids via the OpenTable reservation. Then we had to inform the host as we were seated because they didn't know. The host wrote it on the back of a ticket. The waiter picked up the ticket. Then the person came to get our tea and he asked if we had any allergies. We mentioned the walnuts which he had no idea. Then, they brought us out food with walnuts!! haha. Unreal. We informed the delivering waiter (a different one than the rest). They took the kids tray away and then finally delivered a tray for our kids that had about half the original quantity. They didn't even serve the whole course to the non-allergic child. It was unbelievably inconsiderate. You can imagine how happy our Mom was on her special day as we all sat wondering what would happen to the kids food. - Tea: It was nothing special with one completely bitter. Never again. Advise to avoid on Mother's Day and go anywhere else.
