I can walk up and give the vaguest description -- "classic but not sweet, strong but not too whiskey-forward, smooth but still gives main character energy" -- and they'll just... create it. They've made me drinks that aren't even on the menu -- Army Navy, Aviation, etc. -- and every single one was spot on. They always manage to find the right drink for me, which is honestly a skill more people should have. The servers are genuinely nice, the liquor selection is solid, and the energy is chill without being pretentious. I've also heard there's a speakeasy hidden in here somewhere, and trust me, one day I'll find it like I'm unlocking a side quest. To start they bring over a delectable dill popcorn which was a rich, salty, dill and butter creation. Totally set a fun tone for the meal. Then we had the crispy Brussels sprouts (ORDER THESE!!!) they were divine, the sesame and lime combination was reminiscent of a great pad Thai, with the perfect amount of sauce and tiny bites of figs which all worked together in a way I wouldn't have expected. For the mains we had the shrimp toast and the pork ribs, both fantastic both well portioned and both 10/10s. Pork ribs fell off the bone easily and were spicy and tangy without overdoing flavor and the shrimp toast tasted like a great gumbo sauce and the shrimps were big! My friends and I were sitting in a booth near the karaoke stage when my purse and white sweater accidentally slipped into the gap between the booth and the wall. Apparently, this gap contains part of the karaoke power setup, because the karaoke briefly stopped working when my belongings fell into it. If that area is truly that critical, it seems like a serious oversight that it is left completely uncovered and accessible to customers. The way the situation was handled was completely unacceptable. The karaoke DJ, Eric, came over to retrieve my belongings. Instead of simply placing them back on the booth seat or handing them to me, he threw my purse and sweater onto the floor while yelling at me and my friends. As a result, a bottle of perfume inside my purse shattered, my belongings were scattered, my purse was damaged, and my white sweater was dirtied. What bothered me most was not the accident itself, but the level of hostility and aggression directed toward me over something that was clearly unintentional. At no point was there any attempt to calmly explain the issue or address the situation respectfully. Instead, I was publicly embarrassed and treated as though I had done something wrong rather than accidentally dropping belongings into an exposed gap in the seating area. I was genuinely shaken by the interaction. In all my years of going to bars, restaurants, concerts, and other public venues, I have never had an employee throw my personal belongings on the ground while yelling at me. The response from management was equally disappointing. When two of my friends approached management to express concern about what had happened, they were threatened with being removed from the bar rather than having their concerns taken seriously. I understand that technical issues can be frustrating and that mistakes happen. What I do not understand is why a customer was subjected to that kind of treatment over an accidental incident that could have been handled with a simple conversation. The entire experience was humiliating, unnecessary, and completely avoidable. I hope management takes a serious look at both the exposed setup near the karaoke stage and the conduct of the staff involved, because no customer should be treated this way. As Grand As it gets…read more I've been stopping in to Seven Grand for well over a decade now O.O and I still love this top notch whiskey bar lounge in Downtown Los Angeles. From fun nights out, special occasions, whiskey tastings, exploring the speakeasy... playing some pool, enjoying libations, taking in live music, perfect outings on the patio, the occasional cigar. So many great memories and experiences created here including some awesome date days with my other half. If stopping in for the first time you'll discover S.G. on 7th and Grand Avenue with a door person usually always at the bottom of the staircase just outside of the restaurant/cocktail bar Zaya (which has been many incarnations including Bar CDMX, V and Mas Malo). Provide them with a valid ID, as anybody over 21 should have a valid form of identification on them at all times, not just for driving or access to 21+ events or establishments, but for safety. And Seven Grand cares about everyone and their safety. They value their staff as much as their customers. And it shows in every way from thoughtful space in all directions, great pool tables, a whiskey, bourbon and scotch curated cocktail menu, even some good brew/beer. Awesome hallways with cabinet lockers, the cleanest restrooms, great dim dark warm lighting, fun fixtures and true DTLA vibes that feel old timey yet also very modern. Seven Grand is open to all and all are welcome. Stellar daily happy hour 4pm to 8pm. I love a good $10 Toki Highball at 5pm, but you can't go wrong with their classic old fashion also. All the bartenders are incredible as well as personable. S Grand is open every day from 4pm until 2am. Loads of lots close by as well as the Metro station at 7th and Metro. Though the trains currently stop just a little after midnight. Rideshare is also your friend, which now includes Waymo in the area. Discover Seven Grand also in San Diego, Austin or Denver.
