Tucked into an unassuming strip mall--currently partially obscured by roadwork--this hidden gem is easy to miss, but missing it would be a mistake. Clear exterior signage with photos of their menu items makes browsing straightforward before you even walk through the door. Inside, the atmosphere is instantly welcoming. Beautiful dark wood frames the front bar area, which opens up into a spacious, comfortable main dining room alongside an adjacent outdoor patio. I was greeted with a warm, vocal welcome from the attentive staff as soon as I entered. The food easily steals the show. I ordered the hanger steak cooked medium-rare, and it arrived done to absolute perfection. It was paired with roasted potatoes tossed in a fantastic Cajun seasoning with a tangy hot sauce, plus a side of Brussels sprouts. Even as someone who typically shies away from sweet and savory flavor profiles, the rich, subtle glaze on the sprouts won me over completely. The service at the bar was seamless--the bartender stayed on top of everything without me ever having to flag down another drink. We tried this local restaurant/sports bar for the first time this evening. My partner ordered the fried asparagus and the grilled chicken sandwich, which I understand was great. I wasn't offered even a taste of the asparagus. I tried the Caesar salad, and the shrimp and grits. The salad was very good, comparable to many other restaurants where I order the same thing. The shrimp and grits however, need some work. The grits were watery, too salty, and the shrimp had the shells left on the tails. That's fine if you are picking them up to eat, but not in shrimp and grits. The shrimp and andouille sausage were plentiful. The service was good; our wait person was new but competent. I made a point of stating that we wanted our entrees to come after we had finished our appetizers (sadly, that's something you have to specify in some restaurants, and it still doesn't always help) and she took good care of us. The manager stopped by to ask how everything was, and I expressed my concerns. He listened attentively, and said he would pass them on to the kitchen. Hopefully they will take note. It's a comfortable space, with an assortment of booths, low tops and high tops, as well as a nice bar. We will try it again to sample other menu items, of which there is a good variety. read more

TLDR: good burger, great home fries, okay salad, good value. Good breakfast burger, a little too salty but well cooked and tomato jam was nice, wish it had pickles that would've made it even better to cut through some of the fattiness and brioche bun. Home fries were perfectly seasoned and fried Local Salad was okay, poppy seed dressing tasted like it was from a bottle tbh but maybe just not my thing. Much larger than expected though Overall better than expected and pretty good value. Good service too. Shared with my wife and they split the meal into two plates for us. My husband and I visited The Local Tavern on Briarcliff Rd and really enjoyed it. The place is fully decorated for the holidays and feels super cozy inside. We tried the lamb chops $20 4/5, mussels $18 5/5 , steak frites $38 4/5, and risotto $42 5/5 Everything was delicious, but the risotto was the standout for me. Their mocktails were also surprisingly good and really well made. Fancy cz I said so 5/5 Peach lemonade 3/5 very sweet Bandwagon spiritz 1/5 super bitter, not my taste. If you go, definitely get the holiday bread pudding. It was the perfect warm dessert to end the night. Friendly service, good portions, and a nice festive atmosphere. Stumbled upon this place while in the area and sure glad I did. It's a lowkey spot with and nice ambiance. Typical tavern food, nothing fancy but good. Service was good. We happen to come around happy hour and ordered the wings, bang bang shrimp and spring rolls to start! They came out quickly and were very tasty. For entrees, we had the pork chop meal and the grouper tacos. The tacos were very good and the group was perfectly seasoned. The pork chop was tasty. Our daughter enjoyed the kids burger. For dessert we had the cheesecake empanada which we enjoyed. Very good and was served with a scoop of ice cream. Would definitely come back again! read more

The food here is so good!! It's basically elevated bar food, perfect for a casual dinner. I've gone here twice (once with my parents for lunch and once with some friends before a night out) and loved both visits. The GM is super friendly and came to our table both times to check and see how our experience was. All of the waitstaff is friendly and everything came out pretty quick. They also do a couple of community events throughout the week (trivia night, karaoke, etc.) that I want to eventually try next. P.S. Don't sleep on the Caesar salad! read more

The food was amazing. I knew it was going to be great when I tasted the mussels. OMG were they delicious. I had the Mahi Mahi which was also greatly paired with the mash potatoes and grilled green beans. My friend had the NY strip which was explained to me as eye rolling. The food was amazing. The price wasn't great but wasn't bad for the quality of the food. We had the Shrimp Diablo, the Beet Salad, and the Mahi Mahi. We would recommend all of them. Unfortunately I worry that this place won't last very long. The quality and price are far better than the image they project or the location. Hopefully I am wrong though. read more

The 007 burger was amaze balls!! The appetizers were great. I had the chicken spring rolls as well as the bang bang shrimp. The grouper tacos were a hit with my daughter but the burger was my favorite hands down. And the service was A1!! Mike was the best! Oh side note the cheesecake empanadas with the ice cream OMG!! The Local Tavern is a must-try. I met a friend for a late afternoon lunch. It was my second time and her first time. We had the Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. Our entrées were the Wagyu Burger (side Brussel Sprouts) and RKO Burger (side Fries). Both were delicious. The burgers were cooked to requested doneness. The Brussel Sprouts are highly recommended whether you like Brussel Sprouts or not. Somehow, we found room to have dessert, the Bread Pudding. I'm typically not a Bread Pudding fan, but it was very good. The chocolate chips added a nice touch. The ice cream on top only added to the goodness. Since it was after the "lunch rush", it was not crowded or noisy. Our server was doing double duty as the bartender and our server, but she was attentive and checked on us regularly. My friend, whose first time it was, said she was glad I suggested TLT and would come back. The only downside has nothing to do with the restaurant or its food/service. Since the restaurant sits at the intersection of Lavista and Briarcliff roads, and there's construction in the area, it can be a challenge getting out of the shopping center's parking lot. (again, nothing to do with the restaurant itself) So if you're looking for a restaurant with good food and good service, give TLT a try! read more

My husband and I ordered dinner from The Local Tavern today. Food is the best we've found in our greater area. The hanger steak was cooked well, no fat anywhere, said the man who cooks steaks well. His mashed potatoes and asparagus were delicious too. I had the Chicken Francaise. Pan fried with white wine, lemon, and butter with capers atop. Whipped potatoes so creamy and broccoli cooked to perfection. Comparable to a quality meal in France. Divine. So glad we found this yummy place. Delivery came very fast on a Wednesday, late afternoon. We will be ordering again. read more

The Local Tavern is a great improvement to all the earlier iterations of tacos that were previously there. The menu is unusual...good selection of wines and apps which were fine dining quality at tavern prices. The apps were perfect. I like Fried Green Tomatoes and these were as good as any I have ever had. The Bruschetta was delicious. My brother and I had the chicken sandwich, and the server was right, grilled, instead of fried. My wife had one of her favorites, Bang Bang Shrimp, perfect again. My sister in law liked the large Tacos, and took one home. We live in Morningside and will be back! read more

We went the night before Easter, which may explain why we were the only ones there. That's a shame because the staff were all very nice and the food was delicious. I got the RKO burger, which was juicy and perfectly cooked. The fries were very good, as well. My husband had the shrimp po boy and a Caesar salad, both of which he enjoyed. Food was wonderful and reasonably priced. Menu is varied. I had a thick, juicy pork chop with mashed potatoes and delicious brussel sprouts and my wife had pulled pork tacos with french fries., all of which she thoroughly enjoyed. We decided to save some of our meals to make room for the bread pudding which was a little sweet but delicious. Had a nice talk with the chef. Our server was also friendly and helpful. this place is being slept on. the food is ultimate comfort with elevation. this was our second time here and have not been disappointed yet. we have had the sweet chili wings and the Cajun garlic, both excellent. The main dishes are large portions (the shrimp tacos were 4 tacos). the second time we got burgers (RKO and 007) and again the portions were huge. We have been able to walk right in both times without a reservation but I would recommend calling ahead just in case. They play music lowly and have TVs if you're interested in sports! So glad to have a great restaurant in town. read more
