Great for all occasions, my husband and I stopped in for afternoon drinks on a Saturday, we were lucky enough to have Jasmine as our bartender and she has an amazing personality and was very friendly and inviting. The environment was extremely clean, and the prices are great, we didn't indulge in any food only had drinks but I looked through the menu out of curiosity and seen a lot of yummy dishes for reasonable prices. We learned they grow some of their own herbs which adds a more down to earth touch that I was highly impressed to learn. My office family dropped in here for lunch on a Friday and they were able to seat a party of 9. The menu is small but the food is very good. I had the portobello wrap with sautéed spinach and I wasn't disappointed! Our waitress was very attentive and on point. No one had to wait for drink refills and the food came out fast. Ate here last night for the first time. Sitting outside was really pleasant and unlike most places where you sit outside we actually still got pretty good service. What I had was definitely above average. I had the grouper with fried shrimp and it was really good. The sauteed mushrooms were good but a little salty. The mac and cheese was pretty good. Overall? Well worth the money (it's not low priced) I'll definitely be going back. If I lived nearby I think it would become a 'goto' restaurant for me. read more

So, let me preface this review-I'm a former restaurant owner (x2) and a former Domino's franchisee. That being said: I paid my dues, coming up in restaurants from kitchen, to wait staff, to management and then ownership. I have worked in places from the last Sambo's restaurant in Crystal River, FL, to Michelin Star restaurants. Okay, so, first visit to The Loft downtown Columbus, GA: went with a group. Actually, I caught up with them after stowing my bike in the rack outside Ride On Bikes following their weekly Tuesday Night Ride. The people at the entrance were too engrossed in, whatever, to even say 'hey' or any other greeting. I walked past into the back where the group was. Sat down while everyone was ordering. Put my order in when they did. When asked for a drink, I went 'off the rez' and ordered a 'stout.' I don't normally drink. All they had was Guinness, meh, okay. Then I asked the waitperson if she could 'stick it in a freezer for 10 minutes,' and quipped "Your tip is totally dependent upon how cold my stout is!" as a joke. Everyone laughed. She laughed. Couple minutes later-stout, straight out of the tap and 'cool' at best. Tasted it. "Cold enough?" she asked. "Nope," says I, and then "There goes your tip!" with a smile; again, jokingly, again everyone laughed. "I guess so," she said, obviously annoyed. My food didn't arrive until pretty much everyone else was finished eating. I asked for a 'to go' box. I got the "Mediterranean Wrap." Veggies. Something different. I had it for breakfast. Not bad. 3 of 5 stars. I guess they don't do special requests for anything. Nobody said 'Sorry your food took so long." Either the server couldn't handle a party or she was really pissed off about the tip comment. Meh. I got a DM from The Loft saying sorry, we talked with the staff, blah blah blah. So, next Tuesday the group goes back. Orders are taken. I forgo food and ask for...a stout. Ask the server to 'Please can you put it in a freezer for 10 minutes?' It comes, luke-cold straight from the tap. I say 'I guess there's no freezer?' I laugh, he laughs, everybody laughs. No offer to fix it. The low quality of the staff seems to be a pattern with reviews that don't just rave about how they liked the pork chops or the cajun pasta. This has been my experience numerous times when my lovely wife and I had visited since our move to Columbus. So, either there aren't any people in this town who love serving ( I did! Such fun! ) or the management just can't seem to train staff properly or have no clue how staff should be trained. I guess you can go for the food, reasonably-priced and I hear the pork chops and cajun pasta are great; but don't expect any sort of attentive service. Oh, I forgot: I had to get up, go to the servers' stand and get my own silverware and napkins; you know, basic things a decent server would check to make sure a new guest had? Luckily, there's a great Irish pub across the street from them with PROPER stouts and great food AND service. read more

The Loft is the best out of the mediocre. Was that harsh?Sorry. But it is so hard for me to describe this place. I've been here at least a handful of times (5+ times) and I'm sure I'll be here again. It's always one of the suggested places for dinner downtown (not a ton of good choices). But that's as accurate for me as it gets - best of the mediocre. Overall everything is good but not great, the food is decent but not exciting, service is fine for the most part, and the vibe is always upbeat but the vibe can only take a restaurant so far. The food doesn't stand out for me and the menu isn't all that exciting. People have raved about the mac and cheese, unstuffed chicken and the burgers - I don't really get it. These things are good -- but I think it it just overhyped and aren't rave-worthy. I will give The Loft credit for a decent selection of drinks and they always keep the beers flowing so kudos on that. Certainly the best restaurant during my trip to Columbus, and also the best macaroni and cheese I've ever eaten in a restaurant. Like others have said, that stuff is the perfect combination of al dente cavatappi, wonderfully cheesy bechamel, and breadcrumb crust that highlights each ingredient while still contributing to the whole. It was really great. Also great was everything else. From the moment they brought out complementary and homemade chips and French onion dip, to the mackerel and crawfish etouffee to the excellently-cooked asparagus, the restaurant is a gem in what is already a better-than-it-needs-to-be downtown scene, and more than deserving of multiple visits. read more

I guess Columbus doesn't really have much of a nightlife. Anyway needless to say we were seated promptly. They had a pretty big bar and apparently there was an upstairs balcony but it was closed off for the night. My friend ordered the buffalo chicken dip. Now that, you must try. It was really good and tasted housemade not frozen or anything. We ordered a variety of entrees. I had the unstuffed chicken (grilled chicken breast layered with baby spinach & goat cheese, topped with a lemon butter sauce & served with roasted red pepper couscous.) Instead of couscous I had macaroni and cheese. The chicken was really moist and savory and the goat cheese gave it a perfect tangyness. The macaroni was ok, nothing special really. Our waiter was the real MVP, he was awesome. He made really good recommendations for us. Probably our best meal in Columbus. We didn't have any cocktails though. read more

Back in my day, the Loft was an upstairs club where music blasted so loud you couldn't hear the CSU girl next to you. Now that I'm living in Columbus again, I find out that they have a nice downstairs restaurant? Every day has a set of 4 or 5 lunch specials available only on that day, which really appeals to me. I sat at the bar and the service was quick & friendly. I had the spinach & ricotta stuffed ravioli in marinara. It came out relatively quickly, and was pretty good. I mean, it's not going to rival a good Italian place with homemade sauce & pasta from scratch, but I enjoyed it. I also ordered a slice of apple pie, which was huge, covered in caramel and absolutely delicious. Probably one of the best pieces of apple pie I've ever had. My only complaint is that the pricing of the desserts compared to the meals seems disproportionate. My lunch was $9.99 but my apple pie was $8.50. read more

This place is really good. Its in a nice building in the downtown area. It appears there's plenty of parking on the street but even on a Tuesday night it was tough to find a spot close by. Inside its very nice if not fancy. The menu is pretty basic with lots of good things to choose from. Upstairs is a comedy club but I didn't check it out. There aren't comedy shows every night so if you plan on going to one check out the schedule first. Its pretty cosmopolitan for Columbus. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful. I had the grilled shrimp with sides of white cheddar grits and the couscous. Everything was very good. I admit I'm a Yankee but I would say the grits were among the best Ive had and a bit lighter than many. For dessert I had the pecan pie a la mode. Again I'm a Yankee but the pie was good. They have a full bar and a basic wine list. The prices are reasonable for what you get. If you're in Columbus I would definitely check this place out. read more

Went to this establishment over the weekend for the first time... As I walked up to the lady I asked were they still serving food because it was late, she quickly started they weren't and that it was a $5 entry fee. My initial thoughts were "WHOOOAAA!! A whole five bucks!" I know it's her job to make it known what the entry fee is, however I clearly was there for the food.
