Not outstanding anymore. Have not been here in over a year and now less impressive. Tried to make reservations as Yelp says they take then. Was told no, just go on a "call ahead" list. Atmosphere is extremely noisy, if more than two at a table then no conversation. Used to get free house made chips, but apparently not anymore. Our server was very attentive and did not ignore us. Entrees were fair, but overpriced when no bread or chips served. Raviolis were warm and served with grilled chicken breast that had no taste and was dry. The mac and cheese was also served warm. The crab cakes were good, but overall will not be on our list to return soon. Just like many other places now, big on noise and drinks and forget how to serve decent, tasty and hot food. read more

Went to visit my friend boy in Columbus and we ate here after he got off....it's a nice venue...arrived around 10ish and promptly went upstairs to dine....the wait staff obviously just finished servicing a heavy crowd so we weren't promptly served. We ordered chicken wings as an app and a burger/fries and I'd gotten the chicken with spinach and couscous...needless to say our meal was yummy except for the couscous...not a big fan...I'd rather rice (jollof-red rice) or mac/cheese or even noodles....but to no avail the waiter compensated us with a cheesecake and a discount...so we won on accounts...will go back...hopefully we'll make it to the comedy night or to see the live band!!!!! read more

Visited another downtown Columbus spot for dinner. To date, they had been solid. Read several reviews for The Loft and decided to give it a try. Sat at the bar as usual. Cool vibe inside.. It wasn't "downstairs" as the name might suggest..but maybe there is actually a downstairs..the bar, however, is on the main level.. Nonetheless, ordered a beer and water and pursued the menu. Bar tender told me about the grouper/shrimp special. Although I was going to go steak tonight, I went seafood..again. Hard for me to resist. Added sides of grits and couscous. Let me add in here, as I have done on the past, that I try to give an honest review of my experience THAT day, with THAT dish and service.. It may not always be an commentary on the restaurant as a whole, but this meal is all I have to go on for now. Food came quickly, and as soon as she sat it down, it smelled fishy..which is never a good sign. From what I could tell, it was the shrimp. They weren't horrible, but def a touch fishy. The Grouper was good...covered in some sauce.. Can't remember the specifics, but it was good as well. The grits were a perfect combination with the seafood..tasty. The couscous..not good. Hate to be harsh but it was one of the most bland things I've ever tasted. I'm sure it's hard to dress up couscous but this tasted like it came out of the box, was cooked in water and put on a plate. Didn't eat all of it..no point. The service was great! Excellent tenders of the bar area. Picked up a piece of carrot cake to go. HUGE..seriously..about half a cake. It's delicious and I could only eat half. I would give this experience 3.5 stars and would prob stick to menu staples as opposed to specials next time. read more

I don't say this lightly, because I have eaten my share of steaks (including living in Texas for several years!) but I had what may be the most delicious steak of my life here. I would consider driving the 2 hours to come back JUST for another ribeye! They nailed that steak. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants when I visit Columbus. The expected wait was about 30 minutes but got our table at about 15-20 minutes. The waitress was nice, but the food was delicious. I got the marinated chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes. My boyfriend got the ribeye with a salad and macaroni and cheese. As an appetizer we got a big bowl of buffalo chicken dip and it was very good. Great atmosphere and great food!!! I highly recommend! read more

The Loft was a great place for lunch. The bonus was the $9 lunch menu. I had the chicken smothered with swiss cheese, mushrooms and onions. The kale and brussel sprouts mix was wonderful. I was at work and my co workers were talking about going out for dinner. Where I work there are people from all over Georgia. I suggested that we go to The Loft. They never heard of it so I insisted. I called and made a reservation. I showed up a little early on a busy Friday evening.I checked in and they had my table ready.I was still waiting on people to show up so i sat at the bar. I was greeted with a smile by Kayla who poured me my first drink. When I got to the bottom of the glass the other smiling bartender Jaime offered me another with a smile, so I accepted. When we sat down Caitlin and Sam were our server.They were awesome! We had a great time and was given excellent service. I had the poutine, which I highly recommend. I ate here on a previous trip to Columbus and the food was fantastic. Came again last week on my most recent trip to town and there was a noticeable decline in the overall experience. Both visits I ordered the salad, The Tanya. This visit however about half the ingredients were missing, although I see they charged me the full price. One of the ingredients missing was the couscous salad which seems like a pretty big oversight on the kitchen's part considering it's one of the main ingredients. Service was hard to come by as well (even though I was one of four people sitting at the bar) so I didn't mention it and at the end of the day, my company picks up my tab, so I'm not sure how inconvenienced I cared to be by complaining. I was told they were having a $15 ribeye special that night and someone...Mike maybe, was cooking and it would be amazing and I should definitely get that. So I did. Ribeye was cooked perfectly, but I believe it had, possibly, Old Bay(?) seasoning, which I'm not personally a fan of. I got the grits as a side and they were really good; as good as I remembered from my first visit here. I had the carrot cake for dessert. It was humongous and delicious and there are no complaints there. I'd still be willing to come back and try the place again. If it weren't for the Old Bay seasoning, the $15 ribeye special is a good deal; knowing you're getting a less than $15 cut of meat, adjust your expectations accordingly. I personally wouldn't go for it again, I'd like to try the salad again, with all ingredients present and accounted for and maybe something from their fixed entree menu. Maybe this particular night was off, although I was only one of maybe 8 people in the place, so who knows. My first visit was so great, this one just felt very underwhelming. read more

My stylist recommended this place in Uptown Columbus area when I told her we had some friends coming in from a different state and I wanted to go some place good for dinner. She said this place is pretty casual, downstairs is the restaurant and upstairs they have a bar with live bands playing. I decided to give it a try since Yelp had good reviews. The service was good and one of the server recommended a small plate while we wait for our friends. He said the buffalo chicken dip is a must try and everyone gets it. So my hubby and I said why not. While we were waiting they also gave us some potato chips with some type of sour cream and onion dip. The onion dip looked and tasted like something you buy at the grocery market...the ones in the jar or can...it didn't have that "homemade feeling" but I ate it anyways. The buffalo chicken dip comes with pita bread and celery sticks. It's a good size portion to share between 4 people. Honestly, I felt like the buffalo chicken dip was really salty so I only put a little and ate more of the pita bread and celery. My hubby ordered hamburger with mac and cheese, our friend ordered maui fish and grits and I ordered their fried shrimp tacos. All of us thought the food was meh ok. Everything was just way to salty. The shrimp tacos I had was basically friend shrimp and lettuce with sauce all over it. I couldn't eat anymore after one because I also had the salty buffalo chicken dip before. Haven't tried the food yet, because my "priority reserved" reservation for 6:30, was actually " we will put your name on the list, and it looks like a 20 too 30 minute wait. Not a good start.
