Wow! What a difference a couple years make. My wife and I couldn't wait to try this place again, but were underwhelmed during our visit this last weekend. This time, we stopped for lunch, instead of dinner like last year. Like several of the other reviews, service was really slow. Our eventual waiter took care of the table next to us at least 4 times before finally acknowledging our existence. I ordered the Sliced Prime Rib sandwich. The waiter said: "Sorry, we're all out of that because the meat spoiled". Seriously?!? He's telling a customer the meat spoiled? Had he simply told me they were just out, my conclusion would have been that the sandwich was so awesome they couldn't maintain enough inventory. He suggested the next closest item, which was the Philly Steak Sandwich, which I decided to go with. The description sounded good. When it came out, I literally had to lift the top of the hoagie-style bun to see if there was anything inside. I expect all the stuff to be falling out of a Philly sandwich, so this was disappointing. The flavor was fine, but was mainly cheese and peppers with very light on the steak. The homemade potato chips were really great, but shouldn't have been the star of the show. My wife ordered the Bandito Burger, which sounded awesome. It may have been the power of suggestion coming from the "spoiled meat" comment earlier, but 1 bite into her burger, my wife asked me "does this smell right to you?". There was definitely something different about the aroma, but I concluded it was the unique seasoning. She ate it all and didn't get sick later, so I think her senses were tainted by the waiter's earlier comment. Needless to say, it's probably going to take a lot of 4 and 5-star reviews to bring us back for another try. We chose The Log Den quickly and because it was close to where we were. It's a HUGE place, and was pretty quiet when we arrived (late lunch). George was our server and he was very attentive and friendly, and helped with recommendations. I had the shaved prime rib sandwich and chips, and my husband chicken sandwich and fries. Both were good but nothing out of this world. George recommended trying their cherry pie, which we did and it was good. The Log Den is a very pretty restaurant. I loved the log cabin feel. They had a soup and salad bar. My daughter and I enjoyed the chicken in rice soup. It was very tasty on a cold night. The warm rolls and herb butter were excellent. My ribeye was prepared medium well and it was cooked perfectly. My garlic mashed potatoes we good but my son's red potatoes were better. Stopped with some friends after golf today after hearing some good things about this place. 4 orders and 4 disappointed customers. The people who ordered the burgers asked for them cooked medium. They looked like a hockey puck. 2 of us ordered the prime rib sandwich and it was terrible. All were served on store bought buns (and not the good ones) Our server must have known the food wasn't up to par as she stayed away from us the entire time. Service and food were good, which included a salad and soup bar that was Excellent. My wife had the scallops and shrimp, I had the Fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken. The chicken was not cooked into the pasta, just laid on top. The Alfredo sauce tasted like it came from a jar. I'm Italian and tend not to order Italian dishes from non-Italian restaurants, I should have stuck to my rule. My wife enjoyed her scallops and the shrimp was ok. First time at the place and it will be my last. We were up there for a wedding. Decided to stop in for the Badger Game prior to the wedding. Ordered apps off the Game Day Menu. Wings were okay nothing to write home about. We had several families in our group and sat at the bar. Several orders came out incorrect. Ordered two separate 18 piece wing orders, they brought out two 9 piece orders. Nachos were nothing more than chips covered in cheese sauce with lettuce, tomato and jalapeños on the side. Pretzel sticks were extremely heavy and not very good. Then to top it off, several orders were never brought out. We decided to give them another try for dinner that evening.... that was even worse. Service was absolutely terrible. Waitress took half the tables drink order then disappeared without taking the remaining drink order. Food came out undercooked and cold, specifically, chicken came out raw and when the server was told, she stated "I will take it back and have it microwaved." Seriously?!? Server took chicken off of bill but then charger $12.99 for salad bar that came with the meal what a joke. Spinach Artichoke Dip was ice cold like it just came out of the fridge. They also upcharged a kids grilled cheese sandwich because American Cheese was asked for and when questioned, server stated "What do you want me to do about it? Open the till and give you money?" Good lord really? Again, there are better places to eat I assure you. Place was not busy at all and I can see why. Stopped in wanting some good bar food/appetizers and a glass of wine. Have been here for dinner before (so so) and loved the decor and layout of the bar area. Although the bartender was good, the food and wine were not. Asked for Chardonnay -- just two offerings by the glass, one was too sweet and one was musty, almost tasting corked. My friend got a Guinness instead... We had cheese curds -- that ole Wisconsin staple -- these were heavily breaded and overcooked. Have had much better at other places in Door County. Also had a chicken quesadilla which despite the mushroom/vegetable mix, was just ok... not much flavor. Broadening the wine menu and finessing the appetizers would make this a go to place to hang out, especially as the decor is fun....but for now it will be a place we pass by... read more

Went there on Tuesday for lunch. Beautiful building inside and out. We had an amazing server named Josh. He was the only server there and he did it all! So attentive and polite even though he had to take orders, seat customers, even get his own drink orders. All this while running all over to other areas of the restaurant. Was there for Sunday Brunch yesterday and...have never been disappointed by them yet! Service was excellent, enuf said! Ample seating, and we had a view of the garden/fountains and were entertained not only by the hummingbirds but also some super-cute kittens playing among the plants. Cocktails were perfectly strong and the food? AH-MAAAAZINNNNG! Besides the regular eggs/sausage/bacon/potatos, there was also ribs, top sirloin, thick-cut country ham, crab cakes, fried shrimp, "real" mashed potatoes and did I mention the best mac n cheese this side of my southern granny's house? It is a beautiful place unfortunately the service was really slow (it wasn't that busy when we went) I ordered the Door County whitefish plate the cook forgot the tarter sauce that was suppose to come with it I waited 15 minutes for the waitress to bring it to me, I took one bite and I could tell that it was an old frozen fish because it was gray instead is white. They screwed up on our friends order as well the mushroom Swiss burger with no mushrooms and the other burger didn't come with the dressing it should have according to the menu. We have been coming up to Door County about 2 - 5 times a year for the past 10 years. We have driven past this establishment a great deal always wondering "what's it like there?" The building is a very majestic log cabin, it really does draw you in. We came up last night, opting to just get gas and not our usual Culvers food stop at the gas station just before the 42/57 split in Sturgeon Bay, wanting more pub food. More hungry that we thought we were we decided to eat at the The Log Den. The Yelp reviews were decidedly mixed. So we took a chance. The place was relatively quiet with some people at the bar watching the Bowl games, (we went on New Years evening). George, our waiter told us how good the food was (That was odd we thought to ourselves. Why was he telling us this? We would soon find out!). He then told us that the owners are farmers and they built the building. And that they have been open for 10 years, and he went on to imply that they get food (beef and chicken) from their farm (again why was he telling us this?). Daughter chose the Parmesan chicken and we took the broasted chicken. The Chicken Parm was 20.00, our broasted chicken dinners were in the 14 dollar range for a quarter and in the 17.00 range for half with both of us having an up charge for all white meat. The "quarter" consisted of a breast and a wing. The "half" was two breasts and wings.. These are "pieces" of Chicken, not a quartered or half chicken as the menu implies. We we allowed to go to the "salad bar." I use quotes because the "salad bar" is not quite a "salad", nor a "bar". Sure it has lettuce.... The remaining vegetables were in various states of decay not kept on ice, just drying in a plastic dish, and I was not quite sure if I was missing the possibility that they were freeze dried or dehydrated? Well, the croutons looked good. The food came. The broasted chicken was okay, it is broasted chicken after all, how bad can you screw that up? My daughter found her Chicken Parm to be okay, but she found the chicken to be "chewy" to the point that she choose not to eat it, and ate only the noodles. This led to a debate between her and I that therefore her chicken was inedible due to the fact that she choose not to eat said chicken because it was chewy, it's job is to be edible as it is the Chicken in Chicken Parmesan, otherwise you just have some really expensive noodles. Later, daughter admitted that she doesn't like confrontation. She is a sweet heart to be sure. Before you start thinking that I must be some highbrow FIB from Chicago, I am neither high brow nor from Chicago. Go Pack! What really draws my ire to any establishment is high prices and poor quality. Our meal consisted of three chicken breasts and three chicken wings with an all white meat up charge, Chicken Parmesan, an ice tea, and a beer, we shared a pecan pie ala mode; the total was 73 dollars. That I find excessive. Needless to say, we will not be stopping there again. Next time we will be eating at Culvers. It is really quite sad, I think that if they worked on food quality, food service, and the menu in general, it could be a fine eatery. The building is stunning, maybe they should build log cabins instead? read more

Horrible food and the worst customer service in history. We received undercooked food,items we did not order and charged for items we did not order. When I inquired nicely about items on my bill(accidents happen), the manager started yelling at me and swore at me. The bartender said he ate the food I sent back and hoped I didn't have a disease. Like the name says, the Log Den is a grand log building with beautiful, woodsy decor that fits the area well. The staff was friendly, our waiter was very attentive and did a good job. Although the establishment is beautiful, the likeliness of returning is very slim. We stopped in for lunch, and although the staff was friendly enough, the service was very slow. We ordered 2 basic sandwiches- BLT and turkey melt which took close to 30 minutes to receive. If it had been busy I would have totally understood, however there were about 4 other tables being served at the time. One of the best places we ate at in Door County...and we ate out every night here for 6 days straight. Everything was soooo good, from soup to nuts....literally. The blackened salmon was delicious. And the desserts were all made in house, we had 2 of them, carrot cake and peanut butter pie, and both were outstanding. I only wish we found out about this place earlier in our trip. We have been to this restaurant many times over 5+ years and have received nothing but top notch service and food every time. We come both in the winter/off-season and in the summer, every year, ordering a wide variety of the menu options. We always make a point to come here, because we love it! We even decided to have the dinner after our wedding ceremony here. Our favorite waiter is Gerard, he is amazing. Sad that so many people seem to have had bad experiences, take them with a grain of salt! Cold buffet brunch! $40 for two people! They were out of eggs right away. we had to wait... but at least that was the one thing that was warm. We were among the first to arrive for Sunday brunch. We were greeted slowly... We were sort of meandering around trying to figure out where to go as we were not greeted. When the hostess seated us she said a waiter would be with us shortly, get us drinks, and direct us to the buffet. He was slow in coming and never mentioned the price of the buffet. Many others were directed to the buffet before our waiter even showed up at our table. There was only about 4 people that arrived before us and while we sat waiting for the waiter many others came in and the buffet line got long before we were served drinks and directed to the buffet. When we got to the buffet line they were already out of scrambled eggs and American fried potatoes. I went through the rest of the line and came back and still had to wait for eggs. After we finished eating I mentioned the cold food. He asked about what was cold and seemed concerned. He went and talked to the hostess about it but came back with the bill, asked us where we were from (for the second time) and said he was sorry for the cold food. I hope their dinner entrees are good because this buffet was lousy and expensive. Very nice log building but that is all I can say good about it. read more

Stopped for for dinner on a Monday night around 5:30 PM. Very quiet initially but things picked up. Like others have mentioned, this place is huge and has a great northwoods feel. Salad bar was basic but fresh and soup was good. Log Den Ale was great. We ordered three different fish dinners and were all very pleased. Staff were all very friendly. Price was very reasonable. The staff had the tables set-up with salads ready to go as they prepared the buffet. They even accommodated 2 vegetarians in the group with a pasta dish. First off let me say it was New Yesrs Eve and they were very packed.... but the service was terrible no bread refill no drink refill and keep in mind my husband and I waited and hour and 45 mins for our food. When we finally got our food our crab legs were cold as if they just pulled them out of the fridge. We left right after we finished our food. On the way home I got sick.
