The family enjoyed eating dinner looking out at Lake Michigan. The Cobb Salad, chicken salad croissant, and beef sliders were tasty . Looking forward to returning to go to the rooftop.

Food and drinks are tasty and the views are amazing. It's a great place to watch a sunset. The Sunday evening live music is also great.

We started with a bottle of red and our server suggested 4-6 plates for two, since it's tapas-style with small plates, some big plates, and weekly Test Kitchen specials. The menu's super unique. Baked clams and the jalapeño biscuit were delicious. My personal favorite was the SORTALINI -- "sort of tortellini" cheese-filled pasta rings. Light texture, smoky umami flavor, with smoked tomatoes, guanciale, and pine nuts. Another winner is the zucchini with shaved goat cheese. We also had the drunken beef with chicken fat. I am already planning our next visit to try other items on the menu.

We also had the chance to chat with a few folks eating at the bar who shared some good recommendations (lamb chop is a must). We sat outside on a beautiful July summer night and enjoyed several shareables along with some great libations! Notable dishes were the Mozzarella shooters (think gazpacho with a nice ball of fresh mozz on top), prosciutto with burrata, meatball ravioli, lamb chops, cacio Pepe, gnocchi and the escarole (had to have something green right?). All delish and served with such wonderful care and attention! Wrapped it up with a surprise birthday cake slice and the chocolate orange sundae! Well earned 5 star dinner!!

To start we had the mushroom crostini's, which were so good. The goat cheese and truffle flavors mesh so well. The bread were perfectly crisped. So good. But $9 per piece! Then... The pastas were all good. I had the pesto one with a gf pasta option and it was nice. The grandi was good with the gnocchi pasta and the cacio pepe was also so good. I could only nibble the normal gluten pastas, but everyone else was happy. Someone wanted tiramisu and that was also good. I usually don't like it, but here it was fine. I think it didn't have the strong rum flavor, which made it work for me. Our server was great. Very nice and checked on us nicely. We all had a great time. Would definitely be back, but with prices and all it's not a place one would frequent. But hey, on occasion it's definitely worth it.

Back on a Sunday; sat way in the back room, near kitchen. That one server, whose name I forgot was bad. She just seemed like she was on a different field. So distracted. So slow. She was not good. I asked for a cup of regular coffee and she said they ran out. I said: how? She said: we just did. She offered me something else. I talked to a manger who seemed baffled and went in the back and made another fresh pot of coffee. The previous Friday ; I was served cold coffee instead of hot. I was told: "we gave you the leftovers in the last pot." I said "why?" Oh because it's the last pot. They went back there and made another fresh pot. I don't know what the real deal here is but this left a bad impression. Yes, the cheese and spinach omelette was good. The chocolate croissant so tasty. I tried their calamari and it didn't disappoint. Turkey club on point. Burger was okay. Would I come back just to eat? NO. Fix your internal coffee issues and don't let your patrons drink old and / or cold coffee they didn't ask for. Better yet; never deny a coffee drinker a good solid cup of coffee. It's so easy to make us happy with this one thing. Happy. Summer everybody!

None of the 20 courses really worked - there were a few courses we had to choke down because they were so salty. There was a lot of theatre but it was not at all coherent or tied to the actual dining experience - it was more like being at a show at Disneyland. At one point we had purple feathers and fur on our dining table- but why? Service was also JV - not what you would expect from a 2-3 star Michelin restaurant. They didn't remember that we had alcohol allergies and gave sparkling instead of flat water to one guest. Small missteps, but again, not what you expect from supposedly one of the best restaurants in the US. We could have overlooked all of that if the food was actually good. It wasn't. It was shockingly bad and again, so salty that we felt like no one was tasting before service. Why so salty??? Is it for a mid-western palate? I just don't get it. Sadly, we spent nearly $700/person for one of the worst meals of our lives (and that includes my DoorDash meals).

I sat at the bar downstairs and can confirm the place has a classic speakeasy feel -- the the basement of a place behind a locked door, very dark inside with mood lighting/glass cases and leather chairs/couches around small low tables. It's definitely a great date spot! I took off a star because it's pricey -- I got the "milk punch" on their classic cocktail menu which was $25 and is pretty small, but it's a nice drink and tasted very much like a milk punch drink I got at a speakeasy back home (in Austin, TX). The bartenders were super nice and provided excellent service, no complaints there! The bathrooms were also immaculate. Overall, this is a very nice speakeasy! I've been to many in my day and the ambiance is definitely on par with the best, but I gotta say some other unique ingredients (ideally more floral options!) would really take their menu up a notch! Nevertheless, I would def rec a visit to those visiting Chicago, and would go again even just for vibes :)

We made a reservation for their three course cocktail experience for four of us which required a deposit of $75 per person. Only one of us ended up doing the experience (the rest of us were too full and already tipsy from dinner) but it was nonetheless, a very cool experience. Service was top notch. My partner has admired this place for a long time, as a bartender himself, and he has even learned a thing or two from their Bible-like cookbooks. So when the maitre d offered to allow him to step into the kitchen and help finish one of their cocktails, he was absolutely giddy. This was such a memorable and special touch for us during our visit to Chicago. I loved seeing how the kitchen worked together in a traditional kitchen line but only focusing on cocktails. It was an impressive thing to see. Many of the cocktails are presented in an incredibly theatrical way featuring interesting glassware, dry ice, and even a plastic bag filled with flavored air. I actually wasn't a big fan of the cocktail I ordered (it leaned too heavy into the BBQ flavor for my taste) but I enjoyed trying everyone else's cocktails at the table. I would definitely recommend checking out The Aviary if you are a cocktail enthusiast hoping to try something you can't get anywhere else.
