My absolute favorite bar in Denton. This was my regular hangout while I was at UNT and we still kick it here everytime I am in town visiting people. Great drink specials, especially on $10 bucket night. The bartenders are great and always remember my name and face. The waitresses are great and always on top of things. Nice alternative to the cluster that is fry street. If you want a good table get there a bit early as it is usually packed on weekends. read more

We had lunch there today and was somewhat disapointed in the level of service. We ordered cheese fries as a starter but they did not arrive until our entrees were nearly ready. The quantity of the plate of cheese fries was nothing to write home about. For the price, it was just only slightly larger than what came with a burger. Not that great anyway. Does anyone know how to make a great cheese fries? Yep, That would be Eskomo Joe's in Stillwater. The fish and chips were ok. The grilled chicken was ok. My husband and I love the food here! Some of the best in Denton. We use to go at least once a week but we got so tired of the terrible service! Even complained to the owner several times. Finally got tired of waiting forever for a beer and getting our appetizers with our meals :~( I can't tell you how many times we just looked at our appetizer under the heat lamp wishing the staff would stop talking, playing around and even taking shots at the bar and just bring us our food!! I have been to the Loophole probably 3 times since moving to Denton. The first 2 times were great. Good service, food was good. I really like their salsa with chips. But this last Saturday (September 10th). It was a really bad experience. The other two times is why I am giving them 2 stars. Let's start with our server. It took several minutes to get to us just for drinks. We ordered waters and received 2 half full glasses without any ice. Then he walked off without saying anything. He walked around talking to other tables, stopped to bus another table and sat down at the table while he did it. He walked past us 3 times and never even glanced our way. The last time he came by he leaned over the wall next to our table and asked the guests there how they were doing. Then finally took our order. We ordered a brat and a burger, and asked for a refill on our water. Since it wasn't full to begin with, they were already empty. He came back with a pitcher and refilled the glasses (still no ice), then walked away. My wife took a drink of her water and said it tasted disgusting, like dish water or bleach. I took a sip and agreed, then looked over to the counter to get the servers attention. He wasn't there, but the water pitcher was on the counter below the kitchen area. That's when I saw the towel they used for cleaning tables hanging on a rod above the water pitcher, with part of the towel touching the lip of the pitcher and it was dripping into the water. That was the last straw, so we got up and politely informed the server who first assist us (she was really polite) that we were leaving and I pointed out the rag hanging over the water. I passed by our server and informed him as well and his only response was "Do you want me to close you out so you can pay?". I just gave him a confused look and said "absolutely not. We haven't eaten anything. And if you are going to leave your dirty towels hanging over the water you serve your guests, I am not going to eat here." Perhaps the only issue was this server (he had a handle bar mustache, either Preston or Spencer). If that's the case, then someone needs to speak with him regarding proper service and food safety. read more

Great atmosphere and fun in this college bar. The rumor is that they got the bar established at this location because of a "Loop Hole" which allowed them to serve drinks. Pretty cool story even if it isn't true....that's just what I heard. Yeah the place is a little dingy and smoky but it is a true UNT college hangout which means fun people, cheap drinks and open late! read more

Honestly the food/drinks were better than the 3 stars I'm giving. The poutine was delicious, and so was the veggie burger and the fish burger. Now I DID have an issue about the "triple decker club" sandwich which was not that at all, but that's my peeve (club sandwiches are 3 pieces of toast, cut into corners). It was still quite good. But the service wasn't exactly wonderful, and the place was just so loud we could not carry on a conversation. And maybe that's the thing--it's better a place to have drinks than to sit down and eat a meal. read more

I love the french fries! They have a good menu. Burgers are delicious with interesting options (wild mushrooms, brie) and yummy buns! They have great beer on draft but it is a little pricey for Denton. Service is good. Walking in you might expect a standard sports bar, but the food and drink menu sets it apart. I can honestly say that I hang out at the loophole pretty darned often. It appeals to College students like me that don't like the noise or crazy of fry street. They have great drink specials every night and the friendliest staff you could ask for at a bar. My friends and I walk in, sit at our favorite table, one of our usual servers (at least 3 of these young ladies do it) and they can usually recite our drink and meal order to us. But of course they still bring us menus because they're great. I love the Loophole, I love the staff, and only because I believe in giving both sides to reviews, I have to complain that they don't do Bar trivia anymore on Wednesdays. read more

First bar I went to in Denton and I had a great time. Good beer selection, great staff, and the food is surprisingly good.

I love the loophole. I love spending a quite afternoon eating, drinking, playing pool, and playing darts. Everything was perfect.

This establishment with so much potential sadly still allows smoking. I have talked to the manager to provide this, but it is something to just know before going. What is most sad is the menu can be awesome but many people I want to take will not even try it because of the smoking. Also, recently the execution of the menu has been spotty at best. At this point, I simply cannot rely that the food with be made with quality. If they continue to allow smoking the food has got to be spot on each time for me to deal with the smoke and it is simply not. I love the Loophole and want to see it do well, but it seems it is in a funk right now. read more

Seemed like a nice place good selection of beer and drinks our waitress was attentive and on point. How ever I now understand why the place was empty. We were a party of 6 having a drink, 3 couples essentially waiting on a table at another place and decided to go here for a drink or two while we waited. We were having a good time when I accidentally knocked over my glass and it broke. No big deal no injuries or anything and the bartender was there immediately to handle it and get it cleaned up. Everyone at our table was appreciative and said thank you very much. Then our waitress comes back over and we go to order a new round, mind you this would be our second drink. And she informed us that because of how we reacted to the broken glass the bartender who cleaned up the spill for us was the manager and said to cut us off and asked us to leave. We were all blown away. First time in my 43 years I have ever been asked to leave an establishment. Goes to show the caliber of management that the place doesn't have. So rather than saying are you ok? did you get cut? Can I get you another drink so sorry this happened. You just ask people to leave. So we gladly paid out tabs and left and will never go back. Great job loophole you just lost 6 customers for life and no recommendations. Granted this might explain why on a Saturday night on the Denton square every single place had a line out of it to get in but them. read more

Happened into to this place, just because it was there, and I'd never been there. Pretty typical for a gastropub place. I was greeted right away by staff when I went in, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The bartender made some great food recommendations. As far as their beer selection, not too bad, but considering their proximity to a brewery and other craft beer establishments, their selections could really be improved on to keep up with the other places around them. I was always a fan of this place, it was a great atmosphere, the food was fantastic, the drinks were well mixed and tasted fantastic and the prices were reasonable. I didn't have much chance to visit through the pandemic, but note that things are returning to a state of normalcy I went here for dinner with a friend of mine. For $80 I had a burger that ok on a stretch and a plate of brisket nachos which consisted of a small amount of brisket on top of potato's chips dusted with paprika and the it looked like someone inverted a bottle of ranch dressing over the plate and drizzled sweet and sour sauce and 2lbs of chives over. This had to tank as one of the most disgusting meals Ive been served in my adult life. I feel like if I gave my 2 year old free access to my refrigerator, a plate, and a bage of lays potato chips she would probably come up with something that would be more appealing than this. I was a regular at this place for years and I'm not sure if there was new ownership or what, but none of the things that were on the menu previously were there anymore. That should have been the point when I found something else, but I gave it a shot just to see.. let my mistake be your learning curve; this was nothing close to the food that I would have almost twice a week for 2-3 years, and will probably be the reason it's unlikely I'll go back to this place for many years. what a disappointment. read more

I USED to love this bar. Great menu, used to have great bartenders, but since change of management and change of staff, the POOPhole has been the last place on my lists for drinking and experience. Pear and Brie salad MISSING pear??? Sauteed Mushroom burger MISSING mushrooms??? NO complaints and still no compensation...No big deal...but being overcharged for drinks that we didn't receive, and the manager being rude about having to change our receipt without even bringing up the food issues is ridiculous. My last two experiences at the Loophole have been beyond subpar. After changes, orders and tickets have been incorrect, along with unprofessional excuse making by staff, lack of knowledge by cooking staff, and rude managerial staff. Since change of management and staff, my boyfriend and I had a terrible experience. Staff was constantly making excuses for drinks and orders not being remembered, and the training we observed was idiotic. (the waitress we had said she was carrying a "baby on her back to train." Thanks for taking charge of a difficult situation and not throwing someone under the bus.) That aside, we gave it one more shot. We used to love going here. But tonight was possibly the biggest train wreck and we will never go back. Our waiter was nice. He was doing his best. Orders didn't come out correctly, drinks didn't come out correctly, and when the check needed to be fixed after being overcharged for drinks we never received, the manager had to get involved and was very rude about it. No apology for the issue. Just slapped down the check and said "better?" Could have complained more, but chose not to. Not worth the trouble. WILL NEVER GO BACK. So sad, this used to be a great place in Denton to enjoy drinks and good food. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, SHAME ON YOU! read more

I am in love with this place. Went here with some friends yesterday and had to come back today. Yesterday I had the B.L.P. which consists of a sourdough bun, turkey, arugula, bacon jam, and pears. Really good. Then, today I had a Detroit dawg which is a beef hot dog with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard. Amazing. I plan on coming back many times to try their really interesting menu options. We've had better food from a gas station. My hubby ordered a turkey club and it was literally a hamburger bun with one peice of oscar meyer deli turkey, melted down with cheese. Gross! Even the fried onion rings were bland and oily. My chicken fried steak looked like bad cafeteria food. It was all gross. You definately don't come for the food. I would stick to no fail stuff like cheese fries or nachos if you are stuck here and really that hungry. read more

Surprisingly great food for a divey pub in a great historic atmosphere. Waiter was friendly and did a great job. I was very impressed with the Grilled Romain salad. It was smokey and delicious. Probably one of my favorite bars in Denton the atmosphere is relaxed and chill and the staff is very friendly. My boyfriend and I went to this bar for the first time last night. We spent a hefty amount of money on drinks and tips. We were sitting in the lounge area, me on my boyfriends lap mostly because the fake leather seats were giving me hives on the back of my legs. A bartender interrupted us and said "keep it PG, you had her shirt up early" I was in complete shock, embarrassed and angry. The entire time in the lounge we exchange a few pecks but never would he have his hand under my shirt at an establishment. Also, the bartender handled the situation completely wrong by going into detail on a false accusation. We immediately left, embarrassed and regretful of attending. The bartender was not well trained on how to handle this kind of situation or he seemed tipsy. Either way it was very false, embarrassing and inappropriate of the tipsy male bartender. Plus, bad darts. Very disappointed in my experience and will share lack of respect from bartenders. read more

After a rousing, holiday concert by the One O'clock Lab Jazz Band, my friends and I stopped in for burgers and drinks. I was prepared to order the Saturday drink special, a flavored frozen margarita when our very young, rude waitress told me the machine was broken and when I asked if they would substitute an on the rocks flavored margarita for the special price she replied "we're not going to do that" . I ordered a regular margarita and she snottily advised me that it wouldn't be $4! I hope her degree doesn't involve working with the public. She didn't return but we got a different person serving us for the remainder of the evening. While she wasn't as rude she seemed indifferent just the same. The burger was delicious. read more

Walked in not knowing what to expect. Menu is well written and shows chef put thought on the development. We had the monte Cristo lollipops and a salad. They were both awesome. Great English Pub feel, I had the KAMIKAZE BURGER made with 1/3lb. Angus patty, crispy ham, grilled jalapenos, pineapple, mozzarella, red onion, bib lettuce, Lin's Bourbon BBQ sauce, it may sound strange, but it was wonderful, l my wife had the SAUTEED MUSHROOM BURGER, Triple cream brie, red onion, bacon jam, arugula, mayo, also very good. The service was great and they have a very good selection of beers. Now for the BAD, they allow SMOKING in the place, we lucked out and only one person in the place was smoking. read more
