Driving cross country and through Amarillo, we were looking for a local place, not a chain. We came upon The Lost Cajun, read the reviews and decided to check it out. It was extremely cold outside so it was a hot lunch kind of day. My daughter ordered the lobster bisque, I ordered a cup of the seafood gumbo and a cup of chicken & sausage gumbo. All three were delicious. We also got an order of andouille sausage which was also tasty. The service was quick. The hostess was also the waitress for the entire restaurant and she did an absolute wonderful job. There was a gentleman that walked around asking how our meals were, we responded delicious. I would highly recommend checking this place out on your next visit to Amarillo. I know we will be back! read more

1st time to try this restaurant we came by late so decided to order to go. Sweet waitress brought us waters and since 1st visit brought us a flight of their gumbos to try while we waited. Went with the smothered fried catfish over a bed of rice with bread and coleslaw. The food was good. Coleslaw did not have much flavor. My bestie & I made this our pit stop on our way home from CO. We needed to eat & stretch our legs so we chose Cajun food over texican. We were a little hesitant because how good could Cajun food possibly be this far from LA, but we were pleasantly surprised. We started off with boudin balls that were fried perfectly. They came with a sauce that Patti said reminded her of thousand island but to me tasted exactly like spicy Dijon mustard. After tasting it a second time she concurred withe me!! LOL Patti ordered the lobster bisque. I didn't taste hers but she said red lobsters is much better. I'm not sure if that is good for red lobster or really bad for the lost Cajun?? Hmm! She also said they didn't even bother to toast her bread. I reminded her we were in Amarillo not LA. She didn't think that was cute. LOL Meanwhile I ordered the cup of shrimp & grits. These grits were so creamy & delicious. Probably some of the best I've ever had. The shrimp not so much. They were definitely not fresh! They were mediocre at best but very shrimpy tasting then covered w/blackened salt to mask the taste. After letting the grits sit for a moment to cool all the grease pooled. Our waitress was amazing super attentive and extremely helpful, it truly felt like she cared about our experience. They brought out a sampler platter and the lobster bisque was an amazing experience. So I was in Amarillo for a quick visit. I have eaten at many of these locations before (check out review history). The food here was consistent to the better locations. Don't be distracted by the appearance of the cooks and servers, they were fine and obviously followed the recipe. The server was ever present so distracting after a while. I was in a hurry but she was not. She was very friendly for sure. Why 4 vs. 5? Although there was no line or wait, it took forever to be seated when I was in a rush. I posted a review several months ago but just tried their newest item grilled oysters. Had the original but they let me taste the one with jalapeños and bacon.....wow! This is a great addition to an already tasty menu. I think the spice level is right on for Amarillo but one can always add additional spice from condiments on table. Some of my other personal favorites are the ettoufee and the red beans with sausage. Amarillo's swing into fall made a cup of gumbo a perfect side. The sampler board allows you to taste the various offerings and pick you favorites. The beer sampler was good but the hurricane was delicious. Always friendly staff greeted me with a welcoming smile. The repaving of the highway is almost over so I encourage everyone to come by and try some great Cajun cooking. read more

Except this time, I'm coming off a weekend in NOLA.. and clearly did not get enough there.. last time I tried the lobster bisque which was so delicious I thought about getting it again, but thought I should try the things I didn't get in NOLA but wanted. We stumbled into this quaint little Cajun restaurant near our hotel and we are so happy we did! The food was remarkable and super delicious! Very thing was very fresh! We had a large group and were seated quickly. The service was wonderful and the staff was very patient with us! We received little flights of samples which made ordering a breeze! This place just opened a couple of weeks ago I think but I'm already hearing people talking about it so I decided to check it out. When I first got there I could see lots of people waiting inside so I decided maybe to go another night. But then I got a phone call and by the time I got off the phone I decided to go in and give it a try. They told me if I wanted to sit at the community table I'd be seated right away but the community table had the tall chairs which I don't do well with anymore, being old and short. They said it would be about a 25-minute wait for a table but I know it wasn't that long. It seems like maybe 5 to 10 minutes max. I had a great server, a very cheerful lady named Ester. I decided to order a Purple Haze beer but, alas, it was not purple. Tasted good though.. Then she brought a board that had six little plastic sauce containers half filled with all the different soups and gumbos they have on the menu. I thought they all tasted good. My favorites where the bean and rice soup and the lobster bisque but I had already made up my mind I was going to get the Crawfish Etouffee since that's something you can't get just anywhere. I ordered the cup which turned out to be a pretty good size Bowl. I asked Ester, if this is the cup I hate to think how big the bowl is. She pointed to another table where a guy was eating out of soup bowl as big as a platter. That explains why the prices were a little bit higher. I thought they could have given more French bread on the side. You just got three small pieces. That's not much compared to other restaurants. They did taste good. The bowl of etouffee had a pretty good size scoop of rice plopped in the middle of it which complemented the etouffee nicely. I also couldn't resist ordering one $4 Crawfish Pie just to try it out since I've never had one. I managed to eat all the soup and bread but only a couple bites of the crawfish pie and brought the rest back to have for lunch the next day. It was neither tiny nor huge and looked like an apple turnover except with crawfish inside it. You might call it a Cajun Pasty if you know what that is. I decided to order one beignet for $2 rather than getting a larger order for five or six dollars. It was perfect. Light puffy dough coated in powdered sugar. It got me thinking how many different cultures have a variation of that very combination. Greek Kourabiedes, Italian angel wings, Czech and German pastries, even our American sugar cookies are a variation of that if they have a powdered sugar frosting on them. All delicious of course. All in all, it was a very good meal and I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I'm in town long enough. read more

Saw good reviews, must have been there on an off night. Won't go back. Returned the first fish, pretty sure it was more of a fish stick situation with ettouffee gravy on it. Replaced it with just a bowl of ettouffe, first time ive ever ordered crawfish ettouffee, minus the crawfish. Not one single scrap of crawfish in the entire bowl. None. Wanted a quick meal on our long road trip. Ordered online and it was super easy. Food was ready and hot. The seafood gumbo was delicious. It was a bit thin in consistency but I like it that way...good to dip bread! The Cajun stir fry was just okay. We got the shrimp stir fry and they were fresh, delicious, perfectly cooked. This was awesome because we were able to try everything and I ended up ordering something I would have never even thought about ordering before. The jambalaya is NOT your standard jambalaya but omg it is DELICIOUS!! I think I definitely got the best thing on the menu. I ordered the cat-uffei which is fried catfish on a bed of rice with crawfish ettufei all over it. But I got jambalaya instead of plain rice. WOW! It was amazeballs. We were on a cross country trip, and saw this on Yelp near I-40 and stopped for lunch, hoping for both a break from standard fast food fare, and maybe something a little extra. Alas, we were disappointed on both counts. The Lost Cajun is a chain - proudly making money for the franchise, while accepting the lowest-common-denominator compromises that chains must in order to better satisfy repeat visit expectations. The menu is largely made of bulk starch, with limited choice of protein added, smothered in a heavy sauce completely covering for the low quality protein. The shrimp and grits turned out to be a large bowl full of grits with a little cheese on top and six overcooked shrimp placed evenly (and lost) around the edge. The crabcake was mostly filling and very little crab, on a bowl full of rice, all covered in a heavy sauce that eliminated any taste of crab. Likewise, the "Voodoo" chicken was smothered in a heavy sauce that dominated the dish. We also ordered beignets. Our mistake was having been to Algeria and New Orleans where good beignets are served, and we had just traveled from Navajo country and their fried bread, and what we received at Lost Cajun did not even qualify. The dough tasted as the worst store-bought white bread with no character. It was dry and chewy, with none of the yeast mouth feel in the center, nor slightly crusty outer skin, and was served, like everything else, smothered in powdered sugar, and offered with packets of honey. One bite was all we could stand. For the money, we would have done better at Denny's or McDonalds. read more

Tried this place today. Very good service. I mean very good! I told my server wrong so when she brought out the catfish and the manager seen the look on my face she knew something was up. I love N'awlin food and saw this on my last trip here. So after a full day of travel and a crappy Chik Fila sandwich at the airport I was ready for real food. My sister and I went in and were promptly seated. Our server came out with a sample board of the jambalaya, gumbos, red beans and rice, and lobster bisque. It was good, but maybe I'm a low speaker but me and my sister got admonished for not stating po boy, but I swear we said it because I said dressed. Then I noticed that other customers were asked if they wanted appetizers. I also ordered bbq shrimp. When our sandwiches came mine came with coleslaw, I asked for a fork and got a snippy response that i had a fork right there, referring the fork that came with the Bbq shrimp. The bbq shrimp was a little oily but good. The po'boys ok. Gumbo pass on.. i didnt see the seafood and the jambalaya was ok. The name makes way for the experience you're set to begin. Walking into this place reminds me of being back in southern Mississippi/Louisiana. In a true show of southern hospitality, if you're a first time customer they provide you with a flight of their menu items! WHAT! Yes, if you're a first timer they provide a free sample of the most popular gumbos, jambalaya, etoufee and reds beans and rice. Also in true Louisiana form they keep four Abita brews on tap. (Pro tip: get there between 4-7 I believe, and the beers are $2.) This place is a great, my wife and I got the sandwich and soup/gumbo lunch. Shrimp poboy and catfish poboy. Both were great. First time here! Super cute place, very clean, great service! We got tons of food, but all started with a complimentary sampler! I thought this was a great idea to give you an idea of how spicy different things are! $4 FROZEN hurricane?? Yes please! Seafood gumbo was great! (We started eating before I remembered to take a pic) Really nice traditional rue, loved the fresh okra and seafood! Kids had shrimp and fries and catfish and fries, $6 price includes a drink, so I felt it was a good value. Shrimp cocktail added to it, cocktail sauce had a nice bite. Order Fried Seafood platter and subbed the oysters for extra shrimp, was enough to share!! Finished off with beignet bites...because well...it's in the name We will for sure be back! read more

The place is in a good location. Service was fast and friendly. We order to go cause of the current situation in the world, and food was fresh. The fries on our order was a bit overdone. The rest was delicious. Also our cole slaw was a bit dry but all else was good. I want to go back and try more when I get a chance. I did like the inside, it was clean and well decorated. Yummy, Yummy & Yummy~ This restaurant is amazing and I look forward to trying everything on their menu. On your 1st visit they bring out a sample platter with some of their most popular dishes. It is a great way to try something before ordering it, but not knowing whether or not you will like it. I personally LOVE their Red Beans & Rice and the Lobster Bisque. It is the best Lobster Bisque I've had since I left Connecticut. They serve the Lobster Bisque with garlic bread; which is good, but I do prefer my garlic bread toasted until it has some brown on it. I'll be sure to request this next time I order the Lobster Bisque. The Beignets are awesome and we couldn't stop eating them. I look forward to coming into the restaurant and enjoying food and some cocktails. We haven't been able to do that yet. My wife and I went in last night to grab a bite. Checked the clock and there was 40 minutes from closing. I love this place but last night was awful. The roast beef debris po-boy was horrible. It was cold and just slopped together on two pieces of bread that couldn't be eaten as a sandwich. Red beans and rice (our favorite of theirs) was dried out mess from that morning or day before. The gumbo was ok but not warm enough. l've spent a lot of money there since it has been open, but if the food isn't going to be fresh and hot until they close, they should just close earlier. I felt robbed of my money. Waitress was sweet, but she knew that it was a mess brought out to us. It kills me that we probably will never go back. read more
