Of the two servers they had, we had the worst of the two. She disappeared from the floor for long periods so it was difficult to even get a drink refill. Ended up sticking with water as the one cocktail I had was clearly a mix and also seemed to have no alcohol in it. Appetizer selection was limited to seafood or onion soup. Don't like seafood? Tough luck. If you like seafood with some variation of Old Bay then you'll probably like this place. Although there are much cheaper places to eat if you just want basic northerner seasoning. The restaurant was not advertised as a seafood place otherwise I would have avoided it. I ended up ordering a steak, which came with a salad and a potato. The salad and potato was the best part. Despite ordering the steak medium rare, it was unevenly cooked and dry with a leathery exterior. I would have sent it back but I didn't want to spend another hour trying to get someone's attention to resolve it. If I ever find myself in Gettysburg again, I will be sure to eat elsewhere, this was not good value for money.

He said that "You are transported back in time the moment you step into the place." He was not wrong. Though it was late evening, there were still tons of people waiting to get in. We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. It was so chocked full of nuts and fruit while the dough was the most moist bread I've ever had. I couldn't eat both pieces after the meal so took it in a to go container. I ate it on the drive home and it was still moist and delicious.

We always are cheerfully greeted, and we are seated immediately because it was right after lunch and right before the dinner rush and we sat in the bar area on a high top and it worked out perfectly. Our server was outstanding. She came over got our drink order and if we wanted any appetizers which we did not get this time, but let me just say their appetizers are to kill for they are outstanding. As you can see in the photos, the burgers are done right they are nice and juicy and the toppings are just right in the buns are so fresh. It's crazy. So if you're in the Gettysburg Square area, we highly and I mean highly recommend stopping in here for either a burger or one of their other options which are all really good food well prepare prepared.

We'd spent an entire day touring the battlefield, it's a Saturday, and the town is full of tourists. No surprise we had a thirty minute wait for a table. But once inside and seated, it was clear to us that the B & G was no ordinary bar & grill. The burgers are themed for generals, both Federal and Confederate, who took part in the battle. Each burger is characterized by the general it's named for. The General Buford, for example, is served with bleu cheese crumbles and horseradish (he's a cavalry officer, get it?) and the Robert E. Lee features a slab of Virginia ham. I ordered the General George Meade. Meade was a Pennsylvanian, so naturally this burger comes with a pile of Philly cheesesteak. A carnivore's delight, to be sure. No complaints here. And if I'm ever back this way, I'm curious to try the General Longstreet: it's served with carmelized onions and peanut butter. That's gotta be good.

So, it was a great test for the menu. We shared the hummus bil lahme, cheese rolls, and mixed grill, and every dish was excellent. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. There was a garlic sauce that was served with the mixed grill that needs to be sold so I can take more home. The menu is really good at explaining the dishes. The service was outstanding as well. We had a few questions, and the staff was patient, knowledgeable, and gave great recommendations. The atmosphere had a warm, welcoming vibe that made the whole experience even better. We both left happy and will definitely be back again. If you are bored with your local options this place would be really fun to try. I think even the least adventurous eater would really enjoy visiting.

Coming from Rhode Island with hot weiners I have high expectations for what they call the 'Texas dog' and I can say that they didn't even come close. A dog with meat sauce, mustard and onions...The bread was a majority of the dog with a mountain of yellow onions that left so much of a bite I couldn't take another. The dogs were really big and seemed to be cut in half but the casing was tough and the dogs were not of quality. The stars given were simply to account for the memorabilia and history of the establishment which was cool to see. Overall, the dogs made us sick and left us disappointed but the history is worth the trip? Maybe just don't get the hotdog.

I had a ham and cheese with rye toast and my dad ordered a western omelette, but swapped the ham out for sausage and asked for two sides of scrapple and home fries. The omelettes were stuffed. I've never seen so much sausage in an omelette as I did that morning. The rye toast was only very lightly toasted.. I prefer a little crisper. My dad's home fries were seasoned well and the scrapple was thin and crispy. He loved it. The inside of the restaurant is small and homey with all of the expected diner touches (signs, and barstools, etc.). There are two unisex bathrooms and the one I used was a little dirty. If we're looking for diner food in the area, I think we would definitely stop in again for a quick bite.
