I loved everything about this place. It's a modern luncheonette, which happens to serve beer :) Clean, bright, family-owned for 3 generations, prices are good and service is friendly. And the food is classic, tasty and generous! It's just a lot of fun, especially when you see the photos and read the family story.

I was in Gettysburg for a day trip and stopped in at Ernie's for breakfast. It has a classic diner vibe and great diner food and prices. One egg, two slices of bacon, toast, and coffee for $5.39? Yes, please. Everything was simple and traditionally prepared (egg cooked over easy, bacon crispy, toast buttery, plain coffee). The service was good. Overall, it was a great first stop in Gettysburg - quick, delicious, affordable, classic breakfast.

August 11, 2022 Came here for breakfast. Didn't have anything special but their pancakes and bacon were pretty on par. Nothing to complain about! What this place has is phenomenal atmosphere! Kinda old-fashioned there going in here and it works. Couple that with the extraordinary staff and you have a real winner. Will absolutely return!

Basic greasy spoon diner... very limited menu... very bland food but good coffee and good service despite there being only one server for the place. The place is clean despite previous reviews. The breakfast was just super bland even the home fries were bland I ordered with with onions per the menu but I'm pretty sure there were no onions in them. They must be saving them for the hotdogs. A definite skip for breakfast although there were quite a few locals in there at 6:30am the waitress knew their orders from memory.

Loved the atmosphere and the fact it had been run by three generations - there is a great graphical history on the wall with photos. Very clean, cheerful and bright interior - every other booth is clearly marked for social distancing and same with seats at counter. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Food and service is good - great all around lunch experience. I got the grilled cheese and shared some of my husband's French fries which were cooked just perfect. Definitely worth a stop to check out this 3rd generation family owned business. Plus today was free Fauschnaut Day with every meal. How friendly is that!

I love there breakfast however there was hair in my food cause the cook never wears hair nets and I come in there regularly so very disappointing my stomach was so sick after eating

Everyone coming to Gettysburg needs to visit this downtown gem! Dottie provided exemplary service! Lots of red and white decor throughout this diner-like restaurant. We enjoyed hot dogs with casings--with mustard, chili, and onions. Thirst-quenching sodas on tap, Southern-style iced tea. Crispy, tasty French fries. Regular portion of fries good for two to share. Priced just right. What's not to like?

Good food to go along with great prices. Establish restaurant from a long long time ago, but not from a Galaxy too far away hahaha. here's a couple pictures of the bowl and chili and the Texas hot dog which was very large. We started having a conversation on the way out. Discussed the local area and its hauntings. Nice down-to-earth people. Find me when I traveled with my parents across the United States by car. We would pull in small town. There be one restaurant in the center of town where the locals would go.

    Timeless!

I can't tell you how many times that medium is what I usually get when requesting medium-rare at restaurants. There's a big difference between the two in terms of internal temperature, center color, and texture. This place knows how to properly cook a medium-rare burger, and for me, that's a sign of quality and sets it apart. The sidewinder fries are fab as are the homemade potato chips and either comes with burgers. The dressing on the coleslaw needs some seasoning, but the slaw itself is fresh and crunchy. The Maryland crab soup is pretty slammin', too. I favor the back dining room, not the bar (in front). These 2 areas have different vibes. The back room feels like the way a burger joint should be. The bar is, well, more bar-ish. One of the servers, Brody, provides exceptional service--a shout out to him. This establishment's name is playful and clearly informs the customer as to what their specialty is: hamburgers. I bought one of their T-shirts, perhaps that says it all.

My wife and I both had the shrimp baskets and two soft drinks for lunch. The shrimp baskets were $17 each and the soft drinks $3 each. With tax and tips the total bill came to $50. The shrimp were obviously pre-battered and frozen but they were pretty tasty. The french fries had some kind of a nice crispy coating and were excellent. The coleslaw was pretty tired. The service was cordial and quick. The decor is as I remembered very nice. There is free parking behind this restaurant, but not many people know it is there. The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because I think that the cost of the luncheon was a little more than it should've been for what we received. Had the shrimp been coated with a batter and fried from scratch (instead of being taken out of a frozen bag) I might've been able to award five stars. But... All in all this restaurant continues to hold its "very good to excellent" reputation for food and service over many years. I would die there again and I would recommend it with no reservations.

We were there on a busy Saturday; they were clearly slammed and probably understaffed, and it took a bit over 20 minutes after ordering to get our food. Other than the wait for the kitchen, the service at the table was very good. It felt a bit pricey at about $62 for two with tip. Cheesesteaks were good but on the small side for $17 and $19 (the latter on a gluten‑free bun), and a little light on the Cheese Whiz. That, plus a cider and a Coke, left the overall experience somewhat underwhelming.

We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. It was so chocked full of nuts and fruit while the dough was the most moist bread I've ever had. I couldn't eat both pieces after the meal so took it in a to go container. I ate it on the drive home and it was still moist and delicious.
