Never wrote a review for Mainland and it's where we eat the most so that doesn't make any sense. Time to redeem myself. We love this place. They got a nice rotation of local beers mixed in with the big boys and they can do a mean cocktail too. Buffalo cauliflower is my fav app on the menu.. plenty of hot sauce and blue cheese and all the sandwiches are equally tasty. Chop salad is another sneaky one that's just really good. Last night was cinco de mayo so they rocked an al pastor taco special that should be on the menu permanently if it's not already. We dig the garage doors and fire pits all year round. Service has always been great. 5 fn stars go to these guys. read more

Fox has found your spot! The Mainland located in Manahawkin, NJ just a short drive away from LBI, my summer fave. It's attached to a Holiday Inn, has a huge arcade and Karts for the kids and has great food. It's family friendly. Austin, our waiter was juggling the bar and our table on this busy night. First impressions are everything and this missed the mark. The lady bartender had quite the attitude - not towards us but towards her coworkers. She barked at the guy that tried to help us while she was busy. The entire night if you didn't say everything you wanted within 2 seconds she was already gone and you had to wait to get her attention again. Another bartender spilled a drink all over us and we weren't handed clean napkins or an apology, just a passing joke. Food and drinks weren't good enough to make up for the service, even giving a lot of grace because it was a Friday night. Food: - the paddy melt ($22) was actually great. Had some great sauce on it but would be much better on a sturdy bun. The amount of meat overpowered the vessel to pick it up. The bread just fell apart. - The Nashville hot chicken ($18) had a decent kick to it. The waffles were dry but they tasted like maple syrup was cooked into them which was delicious. - Cheesesteak egg rolls were a little disappointing considering the price. We got them on happy hour but still $12 for two total. Not a lot of seasoning on the meat. Beer cheese was addicting, though. The plates they give you are way too small. The food takes up the entire surface - not that that's a complaint! The portions are great! - but it leaves no room to cut your food or move anything aside. Drinks: we mostly had the Halloween special drinks. Each were $14 but 3-4 sips and they were gone. Not worth the price at all. Most were super sweet except one - the zombie punch, which had a chai taste to it. The pumpkin spice martini didn't taste as good as it looked. It tasted like it was missing the pumpkin part or something had gotten burnt. I'm a big fan of espresso but I wouldn't order that again. The restaurant is attached directly to a very nice looking Holiday Inn. The arcade is a separate building with two levels and go karts. The go karts are summer season only. There's a banquet hall that would be majorly convenient for weddings. A teeny mini golf green outside. Outside seating has fire pits. Honestly the place as a whole is impressive and we want to go back but maybe when it's less chaos. read more

Turned on to this Route 72 on said by friends, located in a Holiday Inn, this place has it all. Granted, it's October, the fall and Halloween decorations were all top shelf. The wait staff is friendly and eager to help beyond measure. Great drinks, great appetizers and great atmosphere. Enjoyable visit to the Mainland this week. Very festive for Christmas! Food was good. Wings were tasty but skimpy. Pretzel was enjoyable. Burgers were cooked perfectly and the fries were nice and hot. Only complaint about the food is their choice of 'plates'. Everything is served on these tiny aluminum trays. Not only does it give you a cafeteria vibe, but they simply aren't practical. I took the lettuce off my burger and the only place I could put it was on the table. Draft beers were very good. Fresh and cold. Can tell they keep their beer lines clean. Server was quirky but friendly and efficient. From what I could tell, the whole staff seemed to be really hustling on a very crowded night. Only issue of the night was the check. Our food and drink total was $117 (pre-tax). However, the bill had it as $125 - without explanation. We of course called it out and after some discernment in the kitchen the server comes back to tell us that the $8 difference was for the mushrooms and onions we added to our burgers. Umm, ok. But why no line item showing that? He couldn't really answer that. Am I the first one that this ever happened to or just the first one to call it out? Look at the creative food on the small plate. You can bring a small or big group for the lunch and dinner. I learned from the people. The menu has been changed sometime. We were driving from south Jersey and found this .. came here for the adventure park and stopped by the beer garden . Looked a great place . Vibes were good. Lots of space to sit and drink . There was a bar inside and also one outside . Service was awesome .. beer cost wasn't very expensive . We gave about 6$ for a blue moon and was really good and fresh ! Nice experience overall. Horribly sick after visiting here. After seeing online that many other people were experiencing the same I emailed them asking for a follow up to see if they determined what the cause was. Zero reply. I mean it could have been viral that affected their staff or possibly food poisoning but the lack of courtesy to respond is what will have me never go back. read more

Based on the positive reviews, we decided to stop in for an early dinner on our way out of LBI. It's attached to a very nice looking Holiday Inn, which reminded me of the Margaritaville hotel chain. The restaurant had a huge indoor seating area, as well as a large outdoor patio. I noticed there was a dog outside so they might be allowed. Adjacent to the restaurant was an activity center with ropes course and other stuff to keep kids occupied. Our teens didn't take advantage but it looked cool. Anyway, the service and food was good. Def worth checking out and staying at hotel if you're looking for something in the area. read more

Here's the thing - it's Friday night and my wife and I don't have reservations at one of our standbys. In the Jersey Shore area, if you want a dining experience that is by what the rest of the country considers acceptable, you either need a reservation or have to wait a long time - even off season. Otherwise, have fun at Applebees. So, I was so pleasantly surprised when we popped into the Mainland for the first time because I figured we could probably get seated. We did. We got a high top in a the very comfortable bar area, which is basically part of the main dining room, and the service made my head spin. Our server who was also the bartender had our order taken and food to us in 10 minutes...at 6pm on a Friday. As a chef, that concerned me because how's that possible? It was. The bartender/server by the way, was obviously a seasoned pro. This lady was straight up gangster. My wife's seared tuna with wasabi/edamame infused mash potatoes was cooked perfectly and the presentation was as nice as you could expect anywhere. Pretty good for a Holiday Inn. My shrimp bucatini in vodka sauce with pancetta was slammin. The only knock was I was wishing for some crusty bread to soak up the amazingly well prepared sauce. No big deal. So few places add pancetta to their vodka sauce. Most restaurants are using jarred tomato sauce, heavy cream, and calling it vodka sauce. It's not. You need pancetta. And for $30 for al dente bucatini, authentic sauce with requisite italian cured pork, fresh basil and parm, and generous, jumbo shrimp, that's a steal. The prices were in line. Not cheap, not over the top. I'm not going to complain like the guy who said $12 for two cheese steak egg rolls was a rip off. C'mon, man. Go around the corner and get a hot dog at costco, money bags. I don't go out to eat looking for a bargain. I go out to eat for a nice experience, we had that, and then some. Service, food, ambience was such a great total package that Mainland is now in my rotation. It's not Nobu - it's not fancy, it doesn't try to be. It's a really cool, up to date, fun spot with great food, great "shore" character and great service - and you can actually get seated on a Friday night at 6pm. read more

Go here for fun outdoor dining...it's more of a bar vibe. So the host couldn't find my reservation from open table but we were able to eventually get a seat. Food was ok. Nothing memorable or to write home about but if I was hungry and in the area I'd stop by to grab a quick bite of basic to eat. read more

Very disappointing waited 10 minutes before anyone came to our table and the place had only a few people eating. advertised lower pricing and the bill came out to over 75$ with two people with no extra addons and no proper receipt to see pricing everything seemed to be microwaved I ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich came out on a waffle soaked in honey so sweet I couldn't eat it and the side of onion rings were soggy and rubbery again very disappointing as I drove 40 minutes for this and on Apple Maps it only shows open table reviews 5 stars witch seem to be fake. The Mainland has been a go to since they opened. Today might be the last time. At 4pm in the afternoon on Saturday we were trying to have lunch with friends. Both families have 3.5 y/o boys, who are friends. They were getting a little antsy and being loud at our table in the garage section. About a minute into their loudness an unknown guy comes walking by glaring at the boys. Without explaining who he was or why, he abruptly said we needed to quiet the children. Half of our party was stunned, the other half enraged. We rapidly paid our bill and exited the restaurant. Long story short, maybe if Dan (we asked his name) had politely approached the table, indicated he was the manager, noted someone complained about the noise....we could have been more understanding. But with almost a $200 bill and his brazen, clueless approach to hospitality, at a hotel bar restaurant, at 4pm in the off season on a Saturday, we felt our accelerated egress was warranted. Came to the Mainland from Virginia for a wedding on Labor Day weekend. The venue was a ton of fun and the weather was perfect. We had lunch upon arrival and my chicken sandwich was delicious! JD was our server and he was awesome and attentive. The evening reception was outside and there was music. JD was our server again, and he knew exactly what everyone ordered and delivered drinks timely. The banquet staff was also excellent and so was the main course dinners! The only downside was the Holiday Inn that was attached. They charged an exorbitant amount of $ for a mediocre room and did not even provide a refresh of towels (2 night stay). read more

My wife and I stayed here while was on a business trip, we ate at the restaurant and used the rest of the facility. My wife said it was the best burger she's ever had, you can tell a lot about a kitchen by their cheeseburger. I had a bacon grilled cheese and shrimp and it was also delicious. The service was fast and friendly with a good atmosphere. We also enjoyed the hotel stay, reasonable price, great bathrooms, decent amenities. The pool and hot tub were a nice addition. read more

One of the worst meals I've had in years. We were staying at the hotel and went to this restaurant which is attached for breakfast. There was no hostess or anyone to show us to our table. We saw a server and she said sit anywhere. We sat and waited for someone to come over. No one did. We then realized everything was self-service, food, drinks, silverware, napkins, you name it. So we helped ourselves. There's nothing wrong with this setup, however the food was horrible. Whoever prepared the food simply does not know how to cook. These scrambled eggs on the buffet were stiff as rocks. There was nothing cooked at order. The bacon and sausage which are extremely hard to mess up where just horrible. I think they were reheats from the previous day. They tasted like tangy grease. The sausage was very dry, stiff and brittle. Please see the pictures for the bread and croissant selections as well as the bagels. This is all frozen food service items. There were no plain bagels which is my usual go-to at say a Hampton Inn where breakfast is included for free. What was there was definitely from the freezer. Since there was no service we have thought maybe this was part of our hotel stay and breakfast was included. We actually had to go in the kitchen to find a server and ask. Turns out there is a charge. It was $47 for two which is staggering. Whoever owns this place really should pay attention to the breakfast service. If you can't do it right, please discontinue it. If the Holiday Inn controls this lease I would consider terminating it as they are unable to service the hotel guests. read more

Mainland Kitchen and Pub is a local favorite. It is a must try if you're in the area with family or friends. The atmosphere is great and especially inviting for families to entertain their kids while they dine. The arcade, basketball courts and go- cart track is an added bonus! The menu has a variety of options whether you're in the mood for apps or dinner. The apps are our favorite and the spicy margaritas. The wings, buffalo cauliflower and nachos are frequently ordered and can be gluten friendly. The service is hard working and friendly. Prices are comparable to other local restaurants and the bill can definitely add up with the alcoholic beverages. I rarely write a negative review, but this needs to be said. We had reservations for nine of us at a high top. I understand that can be a large party, but we had one menu at the table. I needed to go to the front desk and ask for more menus. Then we needed to go back up and ask for silverware. My $13 drink was served in a solo type clear disposable cup that did not fit the vibe at all. I asked two different servers who checked on us if I could have water, but they never came back with any. The people on my party would have definitely ordered more drinks, but the service was so spotty that we just gave up. read more
