Excellent food. Don't forget to check in for the free dessert. We had the red fish, lamb pizza, and rabbit ravioli. Also the Jerusalem artichokes, carrots, and braised greens as sides. All was excellent. Fish was light and flaky. Pizza wasn't too greasy but the lamb is strong just as a warning. Rabbit ravioli was a bit small but again not too greasy and the rabbit isn't too strong. Just slightly chewy and very tasty. Artichokes aren't actually artichokes but actually sun chokes like fingerling potatoes. Carrots great. Greens good but a tad salty. Minus one star bc my parents didn't like the server Patrick and the tirimasu was pretty meh. To start you must try the Porter. Brewed just down the road in Hattiesburg. Best I've had in a long time. Nora, Caroline and I shared the pasta with lamb special, the shrimp with grits and two veggies, spinach and asparagus. All first rate. I started with the Caesar. The dressing was a bit under done but still good. The croutons were great. I usually don't eat them but these are a don't miss. Afterward we had ice cream with strawberry tart. I went to the Manship for the first time a few months ago, and was highly disappointed. My friend and I had to wait a very long time for the server to come to our table, and then he forgot to put in our food order. We waited for over an hour before we finally flagged him down to ask about our food, and he just said, "whoops," and laughed. The table behind us got a free appetizer just for knowing him, and all we got was a "whoops" for our food not getting put in. No apology, nothing. I called the manager afterward because I didn't want to make a scene, and he was friendly and apologetic and said he had seen the whole thing and it was unacceptable. He took my address and said that he would send me a gift card for my troubles and said for me to tell him when I came in again so they could give me better service. The gift card never came and I have been too angry to go back. The food may be good, but what we ordered was pretty bland and definitely not worth paying over $30 for a meal just to be disrespected. Didn't check on us in a timely manner throughout the evening. Had to actually go find him once and he was sitting down. Gave me some lame lie. Only time he wanted to police us was when we got our food and I guess he wanted to make sure we didn't run out on him. Food totaled like $74. And I hardly ever dress up or shave regularly and I'm black, so I guess I was "judged." No kidding. Dined outside with wife and caught him looking through the tinted glass at us. No lie. Had to ask for the complimentary bread and oil. Crab beignets were justly barley ok. Pork shoulder was was done well, my palate just wasn't used to pork shoulder presented this way. It was pork shoulder sitting in a sweet like sauce and grits, topped with collars greens and I also added an over easy egg on top. (Mini update, this was a very good dish. Ate the leftovers the next day and it was very good.)Wife got a trio carne pizza. She said it was ok, I thought it was pretty good. The au gratin potatoes were really good. They are greasy for those watching calories. All in all the server sucked big time. And I forgot to get my free yelp dessert got dangit because of him because I was in a hurry to leave. I came here on a Monday night, definitely a little crowded but we were seated immediately. My friend recommended the "porch swing" OMG. Heaven sent. It was amazing and had a great flavor - not too overbearing with lemon. We ordered the pimento cheese and bread as an appetizer as well as the pork belly over creamy polenta. Both were great and not much was left on our plates. The pork had great flavor and the pimento cheese spread was a great addition to the garlic bread. I ordered the gulf shrimp as my main course. Angel hair pasta with olive oil and Italian spices with lots of shrimp. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the spices on the pasta really topped it off. Our server was outstanding as well. I was meeting a group. The greeter was nice but there was no one to walk me to my seat. I was given directions to find my way. The atmosphere was decent. There was a crowd on Saturday night but the food came quickly. I ordered the crab beignets, maple chipotle sweet potatoes, with a blood and Sand whiskey mixed drink. Our waiter was decent, he got the orders right. The crab beignets were smaller than I expected but flavorful. I have to admit that I expected them to taste more like pure crab cakes but it was more of a crab mixture, like crab salad inside of the small balls. The tangy sauce that was underneath the beignets was a bit over powering. The chipotle sweet potatoes were good, kinda crispy, which I like. Not so much chipotle but taste good. The blood and sand drink was tiny. I didn't really taste the alcohol in it neither did I get even a bit of a buzz. I would give this place another try. Probably my worst dining experience ever. (1) Ordered a Caesar salad. Seems pretty simple right? No. Salad comes as a completely unchopped head of romaine lettuce floating in Caesar salad dressing. Croutons? Just kidding. Let us give you this piece of extremely toasted and seasoned bread whole and have fun while we watch you break it up yourself. And just for fun, let's only give you a dull butter knife so we can watch you try to chop your own salad into bite sized pieces. (2) Ordered a half roasted chicken with Greek seasoning. In a small, shallow bowl arrives said chicken, filled almost full with the chicken, bones still in, and oily sauce. Tastes great. Problem? Still only have said butter knife, 100 bones in my food, and I'm trying to not go full animal style in this upscale seeming restaurant and remove the bones with my hands. Long story short: butter knife meet bone, oily sauce with parsley and capers meet my brand new jacket, leggings, t-shirt. What kind of a-hole sends that out of the kitchen? No seriously, I would like to know, and get reimbursed for my lulu lemon jacket. Also, keep in mind while it looks like you're getting a large amount of chicken for $15, over half of it turns out to be bone, cartilage and skin. And as a final note, the lighting in the restaurant makes your meat look pink, so make sure to bust out your cell phone light to shine on your food to make sure it's cooked! Hello , I am compelled to write and let you guys know about the food my mother and I had at your restaurant today . I recommended The Manship over Dumbos today. We arrived shortly after 11am opening ; so we expected everything would be fresh and hot. I have heard great things about The Manship from great people so honestly ; I expected a great lunch . Our waiter , John was wonderful , the appearance of the restaurant was great . Our food was not good , it was not great . I ordered several small plates ; crab claws - room temperature; totally drenched and soaked in this overly seasoned butter sauce . The smoked tuna ; overly seasoned ; just salty , no smoky flavor . The charcuterie board was elegant in looks but the items weren't fresh . The walnuts were soggy and soft ; the pickled items were okay , the prosciutto was warm , there was only one cheese selection. None of the items on the board were introduced when served . ( chefs pic) So I had to order the weekly special ; a signature meal ; chopped steak . Again , overly seasoned. Great beef taste ; just again overly seasoned to salty . Mashed potatoes were great . Mushroom gravy was great. Then I ordered what I've actually tasted there before ; the broccolini. I received and it wasn't brocolini; but florets However we tipped our waiter and sipped our water . Sad to say we were disappointed and we're never disappointed with Jackson food. read more

When I first entered the door I was half greeted by one of the hostesses. It seemed like I was more of a nuisance since I was interrupting their convo. So after I ask for a table for one one of them escorts me to my table. She cleared off the table and then proceeded to pour a glass of water for me. I thanked her and got no response. I seriously cannot stand poor customer service! By then I was slightly irritated so I wanted to see what my waitress would be like. After being seated Anna introduced herself and let me know that she'd be taking care of me. Anna was VERY nice and cordial. Throughout my meal she checked in with me to make sure my food and was ok. If she would have been anything like the hostess I would've just got up and left! Anna was also kind enough to tell me about the desserts they offered as well as her favorite dessert drinks (I think that what they're called). She was also training another girl and she didn't let that interfere with her service. She definitely got a tip! I ordered the duck wings which were AMAZING! They were good and hot when I received them. For my main course I ordered the Wednesday special which was sliced rib eye over mashed potatoes, peas, asparagus, and sun dried tomatoes (I think). It also had some type of sauce. Although this dish was so damn good, my only complaint was that my food wasn't hot when it came out. It was slightly above room temperature but I still scarfed it down because it was that good! If in the area again its a possibility that I may return. I'm known for not returning to any establishment that has poor customer service. It may not be first on my list to visit but I just MAY give this place another chance. Ordered the Chef's BLT and it was edible. I mean, you can't really screw up a BLT but for $10 I expected something a little nicer. My friend ordered the burger and it was the smallest hamburger I've ever seen. Like a slider sized patty on a regular sized bun. She says it was a hamburger. The Manship recently changed their menu! I went for a girls night dinner last week and had a great time. Initially we were worried about how the menu change would affect what my vegan friend would be able to enjoy but our waiter Thomas made sure to ask the chef about which sides would meet her dietary requirements. Thomas also let me taste the sauce for the NOLA Shrimp & Grits (which was made fresh for me and delivered HOT!). Our drinks were amazing and we had the pecan cobbler for dessert to close out the evening. There was one thing that upset me enough to reach out to management. When I tried to hand the check back to our waiter he grabbed it from me and put it face up back on our table as if to reprimand me for giving it to him. I wonder if this is a restaurant policy: do not take the check before the customers leave. The pork was a little on the sweet side for my liking, so I ended up not eating my dish. The beef had a good Mediterranean flavor and it was really moist. But the chicken was on point!
