Food? Amazing! Server & hostess? Wonderful. Rude manager named Dan? THE WORST. My group of girlfriends came to town for the weekend and wanted to try the pre fix at The Marc. We made a reservation for 6 people at 5:30. We show up at 5:30 and the person who took down the reservation wrote the name incorrectly. But there was only one reservation for 6 person tasting at that time. You would think No big deal right? WRONG. Dan was rude and almost denied our reservation because their people took our name down wrong. The entire dining room was completely empty. To make matters worse, the hostess gave us the name written for the reservation to see if it was something close. Dan took issue with this and verbally berated the hostess when she was just trying to help the guests. Our entire party has worked in service and we have never seen such poor management skills and an unnecessary power trip over his female subordinates. After we were finally seated we got to experience a great meal while watching the dining room stay nearly empty for another 2 hours. So why the power trip Dan? Also thanks for never checking in on us after we watched you go to every other table to ensure they were having a good experience. But shout out to Alyssa and Marki for being absolutely wonderful. This review is based on the food delivered to our table not the innocent servers who do their best to compensate for the menu deception. We ordered the Burrata salad which is shown on the website as a full ball of burrata cheese. What arrived was a flat section of cheese that didn't even resemble burrata much less taste like it. What a bad joke! Our main dish of a half chicken was just a boneless portion of chicken breast. At best it was a quarter chicken, but no leg, wing, bones on back of a chicken. Totally misrepresented on the menu. Our Mellon salad was smothered in balsamic. Do not waste you time or money by eating here. read more

We've eaten here a handful of times. The first was 4-5 years ago and the food was delicious. My husband and I ordered a blue cheese wedge salad to share as a starter. It was good and the was ok to share. Fast forward to fall 2020 and we again ordered a blue cheese wedge salad. When it came out we were shocked. The "wedge" was romaine lettuce, only about an inch wide, if that, and only about 3 layers of lettuce. We should have sent it back. For $12 it was ridiculous. For a dollar more ($13) down the street at Walla Walla Steak Company/Crossbuck Brewing you can get a blue cheese wedge salad big enough that it can be shared as a starter or as a meal on it's own. In all fairness to The Marc, the other food we've had is delicious. The salmon and risotto was great, the butternut soup was to die for and the hamburgers are very good. read more

Wow, a great meal here at the Marc. This was our best dining experience of our trip. We had a private room and service was a little slow for our big group but our waiter was friendly and trying to do his best with such a large party. We had a pre fix menu but it was all great. We started with an amuse buche, I can't even remember to be honest, it was a cheese with a sweet jam/sauce and a mint oil I believe. It was a nice way to start the evening, could have been a little larger, was a bit small for an amuse. Our starter was a mixed green salad with pickled yellow beets, candied walnuts and apples with an acidic and slightly sweet dressing, it was a refreshing start to the meal. For our main I had a 12 oz ribeye, medium rare, with whole grain mustard Brussel sprouts, carrot purée, and Spaetzel. The steak was great, charred and perfectly seasoned on the outside and tender on the inside. I liked that in contrast with the sweet smooth carrot purée and the earthy roasted Brussel sprouts. The only flaw on the plate was the Spaetzel, it was dry and chewy, not tender or moist. But all in all the dish was great. Everyone else in our group also loved their stuffed sole and the rack of lamb. To finish we had a cranberry apple crumble. It was good, sweet and slightly acidic with a crunchy crumble on top. All in all a great experience, would eat here again. Oh and the Hot and Healthy complimentary breakfast with the hotel is AWESOME. Cheesy scrambled eggs, orange and vanilla scented French toast, bacon, delicious sausage, biscuits and gravy, amazing crispy roasted potatoes, oatmeal, fruit, monkey bread and so much more!!!! read more

After leaving Crossbuck Brewery because of a bad experience the Marc welcomed us in. The burger is perfect and they have wonderful drinks to go with the food. All of the staff was so friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. They even let us go back into the kitchen to see the chefs table! We celebrated my graduation and brought our own bottle of wine. The staff surprised us with free dessert to go along with our celebration! My wife and I were in Walla Walla for a weekend of wine tasting and decided to give history a try. This is a beautiful old restaurant in the oldest hotel in town. It was supposed to be one of the best restaurants in town as well. The food was good but not GREAT. The service was great. Would I go back. Maybe. The Marc is a well critiqued restaurant, in 2013 it was listed in the Wine Enthusiast's "Americas 100 best Wine Restaurants" list. The menu is fresh and seasonal and features Pacific Northwest influenced dishes. I liked that they source most of their ingredients locally, and even grow some of their own micro-greens. Not everyone in the restaurant were just hotel guests, there were locals as well. During the busy tourist season you definitely need reservations in advance. We were lucky to get one of the last spots the night before when we checked in. When we were seated we were given a food menu and the wine list, which was more like a wine bible it was so vast. They had a phenomenal selection of wines, especially from the region. As this place is known for pairing, I let the server make some suggestions, which were spot on. To start off the meal they serve a large basket of fresh in house baked bread. I so wish I could have sampled them, my friend relayed to me how wonderful it was. I ordered a fish dish, and my friend ordered beef. We sampled from each others plates, and everything was phenomenal down to the presentation. The flavors were all well balanced, the portions perfectly sized, and the food just melted to the bite. Definitely very well done. The service was timely, informative, and friendly. No complaints. For a special night out, the Marc definitely met expectations and was a great way to celebrate the end of a great trip. read more

We just returned from dinner at The Marc, we had a wonderful time with family after a beautiful day of wine tasting! Our server Katie and Ryan made our experience a real joy! It was nice to see staff so friendly and happy to joke around. OK, to the food. We all had the fillet which was very tender, mine was a bit over cooked but they were very quick to replace my meal, cooked perfect! The manager Dan apologized and made everything right. We had several substitutions and special needs which were all taken care of with a smile and great follow through. I ordered the Chocolate-Peanut Butter cake which was really good, the funniest part of the evening was the MINT Chocolate Chip Ice Cream. 3 of the 4 of us ordered the ice cream and just as advertised, WOW it tasted just like minty fresh toothpaste. Not necessarily in a bad way but just WOW! Good service is what made this evening a hit, pleasantly surprised at quality of food and service coming over from the big city. My wife had the burger and I had the sliders. My wife told me the burger tasted only like garlic, so I tried it and it was brutal. There was so much garlic you couldn't taste the bacon! We both really like garlic, so trust me when I say it was a garlic bomb and inedible. The sliders were the opposite. Not a lot of flavor at all. Unfortunately not a great experience. We were celebrating a birthday and anniversary and really had high hopes for a special meal out. I ordered the asparagus and Brie soup as my starter and it was quite bland. Adding salt and pepper helped but only marginally. My halibut special was fine, although the risotto that accompanied it was dry and also not flavorful enough. The prime rib (also a special) was truly inedible. It arrived dry, and was extremely tough. Even with a steak knife we had to saw through to get a slice. They blew us away. The service was impeccable and the food was great. My steak was a bit under-cooked, but always better that way than over cooked. I could have sent it back, but still enjoyed it nonetheless. My wife ordered the halibut special and absolutely loved it. The house red blend was excellent! We also stayed at the hotel and did their breakfast, which was probably the best hotel breakfast buffet we have every experienced. Everything was wonderful and the servers were so hospitable. I had the Italian Sausage Bolognese and it was excellent! My wife ordered a pork chop which she allowed me to taste and we agreed it was by far the best we had ever tasted. Tender, juicy, seasoned and cooked to perfection! I will be back for a pork chop! The Marc is a part of the gorgeous Marcus Whitman Hotel and is in itself beautiful with a quiet peaceful atmosphere. Second visit to charming Walla Walla, and like the first time, opted to visit this restaurant tucked inside the historic and charming Whitman Hotel. The welcome and service was cheerful and friendly as the first time. We had a starter of Caesar salad served with proper anchovies and both our thick and juicy rib eyes were served perfectly. The decor isn't elegantly over powering, perhaps many would find it outdated, but that's part of the charm. The place is perhaps one of the more expensive places in town but on a good night, with extremely friendly service, well prepared meals, and throw in free electric charging outside the hotel, The Marc hits the spot and we'll continue to visit. read more

My husband and I had a great meal here. The restaurant did a great job with distancing the tables out for covid - and the staff wore masks and disinfected the tables. We loved the cheese board and crab dip appetizers--they were huge! And the burger was as amazing as everybody is raving about. Great presentation, good food, mediocre value, uneven service. Bass was good, but nothing spectacular. It was beautiful, but I expected more glorious flavor. The potatoes, corn, and berries were great, and really overshadowed the fish, or supplemented it. I also had a seafood corn chowder with a little chili oil...that was a five star soup! My dessert was a peach cheesecake, though it lacked grace. It was beautiful, but dense and without much cheese or peach flavor. We were a very large party, but service was slow, even in just getting a drink order going! And three times to get the bill right was a bit disappointing. read more

We did the 6-course all-inclusive "Featured Wineries of the Month" dinner. It was surprisingly exquisite on every level! The old-fashioned dark-wood decor was charming. The food and parings of local wines were excellent and delightful, as well as a great introduction to what WA has to offer in wine. Our server, Brittney, was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and charming. The serving size of food was moderate for each course, which was good because the overall quantity was perfect. The taste of the unusual recipes was phenomenal, but the real star of the show was the perfectly paired WA wines! Each food totally enhanced their tastes in an exquisite way! We are 50-somethings who have an extensive wine collection, and this was WELL worth the time, money and meal! read more

Not sure where to start. Table of 8 that ordered a variety off the menu. Beet salad was the smallest portion I have ever seen, taste was avg at best. Terrible for what you pay. Several grilled beechum cheese sandwiches. Boring white bread the was soggy and cold. Soup was lukewarm and very small portion. Lobster roll was a joke, came on a bun large enough to feed 4 but a spoon full of lobster. All 8 agreed it was a terrible meal. It not that hard to make a good salad , sandwich and soup. We ignored the negative reviews as we were staying at the Marcus Whitman hotel but wish we had dined elsewhere. I was hoping to enjoy a glass of Leonetti Merlot with my meal but was informed by our waitress that they would be out of the wine "permanently"? My wife got the New York strip which was riddled with gristle and flavorless. The carrots were significantly undercooked. I got the burger and it was just ok. It's too bad because the restaurant does reflect on the hotel which we've enjoyed so far. I rarely leave reviews, positive or negative, so take this for what it's worth. Who knew that getting reservations for six people in Walla Walla on a Saturday night would be so difficult . . . which is how we ended up there. The Marc is the restaurant inside the Marcus Whitman Hotel in downtown Walla Walla. The food was uninspired, but okay. It was the service that totally sucked. After dropping off menus and getting our drink orders the waitress disappeared for a good twenty minutes before coming back to take our order. That kind of service continued to happen all evening. Because of where we were staying we received free dessert - which was the highlight of dinner. Poached saffron pear . . . delish. And while I understand how restaurants tack on a 18% tip to groups six and larger there was no way we would have given that much as a tip for our service. We had high hopes for this restaurant after reading all the reviews. Unfortunately we had a very bad experience. Four of us stayed at the hotel for a wine tasting weekend (in their most expensive suites) and we made reservations at the restaurant for the first night of our stay. The one star is because we were seated promptly on a very busy night. Our server brought over some water and bread and promised to return in a moment. That was the high point of the meal. We waited 10 minutes for the server to return for our drink order and then another 10 minutes for the drinks to arrive. We decided to order due to the slow service. We all ordered an appetizer and an entree. Two of us had the french onion soup. It had been reduced to the point that there was no broth....just some onions covered in cheese. The salad was tiny. None of us had ever seen a salad so small. The tomato soup was passable and the best of the starters. The entrees were disappointing as well. Two of four went back and one was 1/2 the size advertised (the lamb chops). Only the steak was acceptable. When we told the server we were unhappy, he sent over the manager. In his defense, he comped us two of the meals which were inedible but was defensive about the food quality and service. We left with a bad taste in our mouth and although we will definitely be back to Walla Walla, we won't be back to The Marc. read more

Little ambience, outdated decor, ok service, terrible overpriced food. Ok. Maybe that's too extreme. The Walla Walla Valley Green Salad was good. Fresh, light vinaigrette over micro greens with fresh chèvre. The paella stuffed tomatoes sounded great on paper. They weren't. The ravioli were more like pierogis; dense dumplings with a sweet onion jam on side. Every dish was almost too accessorized (jams, fruits, nuts, olives, drizzles of who knows what). I eat the breakfast buffet because it comes free with the room. But I'm not really that happy with it. The oatmeal is like glue most days and I have run to Starbucks first thing and bring my coffee with me. I've been staying at the Marcus Whitman once a year for many years now. The facility is great but I'm not coming back to spend $$ at the restaurant. read more

This was a hard one to rate. The food upped the star level, because the service definitely deserved less. We visited on Labor Day weekend. While the food and cocktails are exceptional, the service was pathetically slow. We had to wait for *everything* and the waiter forgot to fill our water after the request. The women, who seemed to only have the hostess responsibilities during our dinner, are far more responsive. We asked one for water and got it promptly. (In fact, now that I think about it, they should have had some of the women helping tend the tables.) I did overhear a waiter say to another table they were short-handed and with a new person, but they need to find a way to compensate for that. The staff is friendly and welcoming, for sure, but it was a big disappointment to feel like we had to wait so long between every order/request and having it fulfilled. Again, the food is quite distinctly created and well-presented. (Except the steak, which was much closer to medium-rare than medium-well.) You do only get two small scallops, with that order, but they do taste wonderful. Service was *much* better at Brasserie Four (but get reservations) and the food there was exceptional, too. read more
