Apologies to the staff who have to deal with me like at least three times a week, but I get up every morning and go on a matcha search that usually ends here... I don't often frequent anywhere except for my house, so that speaks to how much I love this place. Highly recommend any iced matcha (especially seasonal options) or coffee and the Fancy Bagel. I mean, sunflower seed cream cheese? Who knew it could be so good. The Market is clearly my favorite place for matcha/coffee, bagels, and now dole whip (obviously). But what I love most is that they are innovators--they do not sit around and let the menu get dusty, they are always doing something new. New drinks, new cold foams, adding an ice cream machine. And not in a way that feels like whiplash, but just like menu drops that make sense. This is how you run a place that is good to locals and people visiting for the first time... You keep it interesting and that's what they do. So many local spots fall into the same old thing with zero changes and I genuinely LOVE that The Market isn't doing that!! 10/10. Also, the staff are just lovely x1000. Grace, Josh, Carla, McKenna, Izzy, (sorry if I spelled someone's name wrong!) and everyone else are true gems. They are consistently kind, upbeat, and engaging, and they are consistently good at producing drinks/food that don't change based on the day of the week and the weather. My matchas always taste the same, which is a big selling point for me. This place is SO CUTE! The girls working here are kind and friendly. You can tell the drinks are created with homemade ingredients. The outside area is peaceful. You can really tell the owners and people working here truly care. I came by myself today to get some work done, but next time want to bring my kids to play in the outside area. Very cute spot with an adorable outdoor area around the side. Saturdays and Sundays they host donation based yoga and it's amazing! I always get a cappuccino.. today I also got a fresh squeeze juice and I also get their concha which is the best I ever had personally. Very adorable health forward spot. One of my favorite spots to stop for a quick drink! I think this market has more unique flavors than Rooted. The staff is so kind and friendly, very welcoming. The place is cute and has a nice spot to sit out in the back patio. I usually get a seasonal matcha with oat milk. Parking is a hit or miss. There's not many spots and usually have to park on the street (where you can). It's supposed to be a local grab and go so that makes sense. read more

Really happy that I can come to the Market when I need a vegan turkey sandwich fix! The Beach Club is my go-to! I also recently tried the salads like a chopped salad and a spring herb salad and both were delicious. My favorite pastry is the concha - not dry at all! My only suggestion is I wish they would carry Rebel Cheese that we can buy from the market or be able to buy the Prime Roots vegan turkey. I've seen Rebel cheese being sold at Anchor Pantry in Vallejo and would love to be able to buy some nearby in Walnut Creek. read more

I've been hearing lots of good things about this place so I finally got the opportunity to try it out! We came for lunch & it wasn't overly packed, thankfully. Lots of healthy snacks for purchase, as well as some premade to-go items like sandwiches & salads. I say some, because the fridge sections were pretty wiped out of premade meals. Their menu isn't huge, but they definitely had some yummy-sounding options, & I love that everything is plant-based! It's a bit over priced, in my opinion, which makes me feel like non-vegans will think this is the normal price of vegan food (I promise it's not!). I get it's Walnut Creek & the economy sucks, but $17+ for a simple vegan sandwich is insane... We ordered the BLAT & the Banh Mi, along with a small strawberry lemonade. The total was close to $40, & then we went to sit on their adorable outdoor patio. The strawberry lemonade was mainly strawberry puree, no real tartness. The BLAT was a bit burnt, & apparently cut up my friend's mouth. But it sounded like the flavor was good! Personally, I've never had avocado on a banh mi before, & thought I've tried much better ones before. Good local vegan market walking distance from the park. We got their grilled cheese and the BEC bagel with bacon, egg, cream cheese, and avocado. The BEC is good, but messy. The kids weren't crazy about the vegan cheese, but I'm glad that they tried it. I am not sure why the complaint about high prices. Vegan food isn't cheap and this is Walnut Creek. Lots of selections and vegan snacks. Friendly service. This place tries to cater to omnivores as well, and I appreciate that. read more

The Market on Larkey and Rooted are no longer owned by the same people. I have been a huge supporter of Rooted for years and go multiple times a week. The staff are amazing and kind and well trained. I want to support The Market on Larkey the same way now that they are independent and the owners are amazing and have been nothing but kind to my family for years. The food at the Market is delicious. The conchas are my favorite and the BLAT is my go to! I would definitely come here more for the food, BUT for some reason the staff here are the most unfriendly people, it's night and day from their previous business, Rooted. I figured it was maybe a one time thing, but the more I go, the more blank stares and just aloofness I get from the girls working. It makes me question if it's worth going, having to deal with their uncomfortable behavior. Today the girl at the counter barely could be bothered to take my order, and then she suddenly raised her voice loudly and discussed with a coworker about how amazing the steak she had was for the holidays. I understand non vegans work here, but being aware of your brand is also a skill they should have. I am always very careful of negative reviews of fully vegan places, since as a vegan, I want them to have every possible chance to succeed and the food is top notch. But I can't get over the poor attitudes and teenage mean girl personas the staff has. read more

Our second trip here. The first was a bit of a wash, to no fault of the staff. however, the Ice cream seller had left Larkey Park before we could find them, so I suggested The Market, not knowing that it was vegan. Now, they do have a good selection of frozen goodies in their freezer, however nothing competes with the artificial dye in a TMT ice cream bar when you are nine. However on that first trip we had found many things that we loved. So today we came back for lunch. The nine year old ordered her first sandwich with vegan meat, the turkey and provolone. She loved it, as did I. I had the horchata latte which was delicious. and then drooled over the pasties, since our bellies were too full to indulge. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. read more

The market by rooted has become our go to spot on weekends for a quick pick-me-up or to load up on pastries for the following week. Their baked goods are scrumptious, their matcha latte is delicious and the people who work there are some of the nicest staff you'll encounter anywhere. You wouldn't think a place hidden in a residential neighborhood could churn out the highest quality of food but the market by rooted exceeds all expectations. read more

i ordered the lemon zest matcha seasonal drink after seeing it on social media and it was such a disappointment. i stopped buying matcha drinks from cafes because they always taste like milk or water--not like matcha--and that was the case here too. you could tell from the color it wasn't going to taste like matcha, AND there was no lemon flavor either. minimal at best. the orangecicle smoothie was ok. chalky but passable. read more

I should have done more research before hopping in the car and heading down to this little shop. Or, it shouldn't be listed on Yelp as a 'Deli' and should say it's completely plant based rather than just 'vegan options available.' Here is our exact order that was $55 for lunch: Two individual bags of kettle chips, a sandwich, a salad, Mexican Coke, latte and energy drink. I was genuinely shocked when she said the price out loud, especially since it's all plant based and no meat was needed to be prepared or purchased for either meal. I'd also like to mention that both the salad and sandwich were from the premade refrigerator, Caesar salad was $14... Wish I could support local, but hard to justify ever spending that much on lunch ever again. read more

Quaint and lovely! Like the other two Rooted locations, this one is no different and does not disappoint. Love the outdoor dining area, it's spacious with plenty of seating and shade. Little area for kids to run around too. Easy ordering inside, you order at the counter, get a buzzer, come collect your food/drinks. The little store has grocery and convenience items, as well as grab and go menu items. Staff is kind, helpful, and welcoming. I love this little market!! Today was my first time coming and I had a great experience. It's located in a neighborhood, and has its own little section for parking. I noticed they had grab and go food that looked very fresh, and you can have them customize certain items at the register. I ordered the summer orange blossom matcha and I added vanilla cold foam. It was soooo yummy, it tasted like an orange creamsicle. My mom ordered the perfecto coffee and was super pleased with her drink. I will definitely be back to try more items. read more

I became a big fan of Rooted's lattes and avocado toast when I moved to Walnut Creek in 2020. When the Locust St location opened a year later, it was a great to enjoy an indoor cafe and an expanded menu. I've since moved away from Walnut Creek but was in the area this week and decided it was a great chance to try Rooted's third outpost. The Market is in a very peaceful residential area. Love all the vegan foods and snacks sold as well as the reusable wares like stainless steel and glass straws! I ordered a breakfast sandwich because I love the one sold at the Locust location. The breakfast sandwich here was disappointing. The homemade sausage patty had an overly soft and unappealing texture, and the pickled vegetables tasted out of place. The bread was delicious though! I wish it simply had a Beyond breakfast sausage patty instead. Staff was super friendly, which is in line with the kind service at the other two locations. Despite the disappointing breakfast sandwich, my overall trust in Rooted will bring me back to try another sandwich when I'm in the area. Also: there's plenty of covered outdoor seating, though it's still quite hot out there. I imagine this will be a lovely environment when the temperatures start to cool down in this part of the Bay Area. read more

I'm really sad to be writing this review as I have been a huge supporter of the last business Larkey Market and Deli. I stopped by to grab a bite and a juice. The staff was incredibly nice but the entire experience turned kinda sour when I paid $34 for 2 bagels and 2 juices then waited 30+ minutes (my bf called after I ordered and we stayed on call for 32 minutes until I went back in to ask) for my bagels that were never made. There was no other customers besides me and another lady. Just a huge disappointment, I really loved this place when it was Larkey Market and Deli. They were able to issue a refund on the bagels but it would have been nice if I didn't have to wait 30+ minutes and have my juice completely melt and get watered down and not be able to eat lol. read more

I have typically had really good experiences where the drinks are great but it seems like they've hired new baristas. The most frustrating thing at any coffee shop is when your drink is not consistent between different baristas. The last few times I've went, my drink has been awful to the point I immediately regret spending the money. There are only 3 people I recognize and trust to make drinks that are up to par. I hope this encourages better training in new baristas. read more

Darling, delicious neighborhood market. The breakfast sammie was off the charts delectable paired with a hot oat milk latte. I loved Larkey Market and have always loved Rooted. To have Rooted in this space is a joy. I also love that they have strawberries and candy. It's nostalgic and perfect to have candy in a neighborhood store by a park - my teenager will come by for that. This little Market in my neighborhood is part of my best life and I am here for it. On weekends, walk, ride your bike or park at the park or museum and walk over. Weekend parking is limited. Can't wait to ride my bike here. read more

Don't get me wrong. This place is cute. It would be cute downtown But they already have a larger location there, not quite the same but nonetheless... I think Larkey Market lasted there a very long time for a reason. Great sandwiches, all the stuff you need for a picnic and reasonably priced. My brother, baby, dogs and I went there this weekend. We got a smashed chickpea sandwich and a Bahn mi. The smashed chickpea was like $14-15 dollars, incredibly tasteless I didn't even bother with the second half. The bahn mi was ok but only because of the sauce that came with it. Also about $15 dollars. We got two iced teas, not regular ones, hibiscus ones. Out the door, $40 NIC the tip. I really was excited for a new place but I don't think we will be back for this one. Wish you guys luck! read more

We were so excited to be able to go on opening day! Another rooted is a great thing. The food was delicious, we had the Bahn mi, great sauce and yummy bread. I also really loved the iced cappuccino, I've never had an iced drink with milk foam and it was such a great way to spice it up. The smoothie was delicious and at 24oz it was perfect to share.
