Super upset to find out that Mavs is now closed on Thursdays. My friends and I came in pretty much every Thursday, and it became one of those places where you knew the staff, knew the regulars, and actually looked forward to going. And honestly, Bethany was a huge reason for that. She's an amazing bartender, always welcoming, remembers people, and knows how to make a night out fun. It's rare to find someone who makes you genuinely want to keep coming back. Either way, shutting down Thursdays means losing loyal customers who actually supported that night. Hopefully management realizes that sometimes the people who keep a place busy are the employees who make customers want to return -- and Bethany was absolutely one of those people. read more

Wow.. mavericks has been the place my friends and i went every Thursday and today we get there and it's closed with no warning.. we always came because Bethany made the bar feel like a safe place to decompress after work and we get there and the open sign is on but the doors are locked.. guess management forgot to let the community know.. and then to find out the bar is possibly becoming 18+ if i wanted to waste my money and watch children id go to whiskey river.... thank god saddle sore is down the street. read more

We stopped by Mavericks last Thursday and had a fantastic first impression, largely because of Bethany. She was an amazing bartender--she gave us great drink recommendations, checked in throughout our visit to make sure everything was good, and even invited us back the following Thursday. My wife and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. We appreciated that it was a calm, relaxed bar with an adult crowd, which was a refreshing change from some of the 18+ bars where things can get pretty chaotic. We enjoyed it enough that we invited six of our friends to come out with us tonight. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the bar was closed with no notice that we could find. The illuminated "OPEN" sign was still on, so we weren't sure if there had been an unexpected closure or if something happened at the last minute. Either way, it was incredibly frustrating to bring a group of six friends out based on our great experience the week before, only to find the doors closed. A few people in the parking lot recommended Last Chance down the street, so we ended up going there instead. It was a decent place to hang out and ultimately salvaged the evening, but it definitely wasn't the experience we had planned. We really enjoyed our first visit to Mavericks and thought Bethany was fantastic, so it's unfortunate that tonight's experience left such a sour taste in our mouths. When you invite a group of people back based on a good experience, the least you expect is for the business to actually be open--or at least to give customers some kind of notice if it isn't. At this point, I'm honestly not sure we'll be making the trip back. There are plenty of other places willing to have our business, and unfortunately, tonight made us question whether Mavericks is one of them. read more

Hosted a welcome home / birthday party and the place was amazing. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. They opened early so we could set up in time for guest to arrive and everyone had a great time. Highly recommended this place to anyone planing to host an event !!!! read more

This place is the cutest! I love their live music on weekends!!! They have country line lessons and karaoke! It's not a huge bar but it's never too packed either so it's no big deal! This place literally only deserves a 1 star rating. Let me explain why. 1) we arrive and sit outside, because there are barely any seats inside, and we get our waitress. First off I don't know if this girl is new or if she is just dumb. We order a water, crown and coke and Dr Pepper. She comes back 10 min later to say no Dr Pepper sorry, but doesn't bring the rest of the drinks. 30 min later we get all three drinks ‍ 2) We order our food at around 9 and order nachos as an appetizer.....fast forward to 9:30 I get MY food but nothing else and mine were supposed to come with rice and beans so my boyfriend tells her and she says "oh.....you didn't get them?!" girl YOU brought the food! So then 10 rolls around still no nachos or food. We all leave and as my boyfriend goes to the bar to get his card back from them he sees alllllll of the food sitting there under lamps while our waitress stood there talking. We paid $30 for 1 lrg coke, 2 mini crown and cokes and an order of tacos. All in all...I would rather slit my eyelids open than have to go back to this place ever again. read more

As a non white woman and admitted liberal, obviously this place does not cater to me. I put my political views aside to meet a couple of my dear friends at this establishment. Never again. Drinks, service and atmosphere were horrible. Someone actually threatened my friend. We are both peaceful old ladies just trying to have fun. So many people here look like they're gonna spontaneously punch someone in the face. I'll pay a few bucks more for drinks for a more diverse, clean, fun environment. They were good muy sumbroso.The tacos came with savory tender chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, and cheese in a deep fried hard corn tortilla I added the salsa. They were good. My husband and I stopped in for a beer and tacos. I read some of the other reviews, so we wanted to try for ourselves.this is a great spot, nothing fancy. The bartender was very attentive,I didn't get her name oops! But she was so pleasant and answered our questions. I must say...the tacos were great. My hubby had the fish tacos I had the chicken. He loved the fish and wanted more. The chicken were good but I decided to order a fish taco and yes they are the best. We had a great time on the patio. We will be back. And I love the Trump banner. Where to start this place was amazing !!!! I went last weekend for a wedding after party, let me warn you don't let looks deceive you the place is old and getting remodeled but the lack of aesthetics is made up by excellent customer service. The bar manager / DJ Tania was so welcoming and helpful she made sure our orders were taken and although I came with a big party she made sure I was attended. Her DJ skills are awesome she played every song that I requested. She actually came out to the dance floor on some of the songs to dance with us she is so fun and made the whole experience of going to Mavericks so much better. Why 4 stars you may ask? I know it seems high but I knew what to expect beforehand and I was stationed in Gulfport Mississippi where the customers smoked inside, were missing teeth and literally are racist. The space is unique, I liked that you can park your horse. The karaoke was good. The manager and bartender were friendly and the bathroom was surprisingly immaculate. This is a cowboy style conservative town so when you see Trump signs there is no point in getting offended. These restaurants and businesses stay alive because of the locals so I see why it's catered that way. It's smelly so I have no idea how people stomach eating there but hey whatever. Some of these young cowboy types are hilarious to watch. I saw their struggle trying to line dance (Texas has amazing places for that) The females are thirsty and try really hard to look seductive ‍ but hey I imagine I might have made a fool of myself at some bar back in my 20s. I don't hate so do your thing generation Z and late millennials. I don't think I would necessarily go back because it's in no way my type of establishment. I went with my co-worker after our shifts at the restaurant we work for. It has good late hours. We were both not looking cute so no guy harassed or bothered us as other reviews state, everyone was chill. (We are not hideous I will post a picture of my style so it can make more sense why it's not for me). We are both Latina women and the white female young bartender made us delicious custom cocktails. She was very friendly and attentive. I just moved here from Manhattan so I tip really well because drinks here are super cheap in comparison. A big part of why WE go there, not just our little 20 person group, is the friendship and loyalty that we have and a lot of customers that currently go to waterwheel. I think most would agree with this post. You might want to think about the phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", I... and I'm sure am not alone, think that Mavericks is a $&@t hole and will not have any part of it if you bring your dive bar fights to waterwheel. Mavericks is one of the main dive bars I grew up around. It was always a good fun time with cheap drinks to pair along. A few months ago my friends credit card was overcharged. I thought it was probably just a servers mistake or an accident, I didn't think much of it. Unfortunately, Friday night I went to Mavericks and had a somewhat different experience then I am use to. I walked in with my restaurant.com coupon that I purchased back in October 2011. The girl took the coupon after I placed my order and came on back to explain that they were no longer taking the coupon. I was confused, and frustrated--I just drove down to Mavericks (I moved so its a good 50 min drive from my new place) so that I could use the coupon. What the hell? The server was extremely helpful and offered to contact the owner. The owner still wouldn't budge. So your telling me that I paid for a gift certificate from restaurants.com that I cannot even use? You have to be joking me. I was so frustrated that I decided to leave. Why would I give business to a place that would not even stand by their advertisements that they put out. Ridiculous!!! I went to the bar and closed my bar tab and immediately left. This morning I logged onto my yahoo account only to find that my restaurant.com coupon that could not be used, was scanned in by Mavericks saying that I had "used" it. Are you serious? So---now--I didn't get to use the gift certificate, even though I paid for it--and now they pretty much threw my money again?? As if I didn't think things could get worse. I checked my bank statement and my credit card was overcharged? Wow. Not sure if they received a new owner but I am extremely disappointed in what this place has turned into. read more

Dive bar in Horsey Town USA!!! Kind of a mix between bikers, cow peoples and just about everyone else... Apparently its known as a steak house? I have never ate here. But if you want to come and chill and watch your friends bands play, its the place do it. I have been here to watch a plethora of bands play but never thought to go for dinner. Kind of scary looking just by judging from looks of the place that they actually have food. But eat your own risk I always say! The service was good until we later checked our bank statement and had an extra $35.00 charged on it that we didn't put on it. And being devil's advocate, the waitress might of charged us by mistake. We will give her the benefit of the doubt. but if I was to go there again definitely pay in $$$. We had to call our bank and cancel our bank card and now have to wait a week before we get a new one. When ya first walk into The Maverick it's hard to tell it's a steak house. But Lo and behold, this place is a hidden gem! Jose makes the best freakin' tacos around. I drive from Huntington Beach to hang out at the Maverick and scarf down their righteous grubbage. The steak is super delish as well. If you like the country vibe, then this spot is hands-down the best spot in IE and OC. Worth the drive and never disappoints. (Not to mention the cheap drinks). ;-) read more

Mavs is my favorite bar ever. I know that's a little crazy but I was raised all my life in norco and mavs is a little piece of home when I'm away! It's ALWAYS A good time! with live bands on the weekends, a dj, line dancing, cheap drinks, pool tables and the chance of running into some old friends from high school makes this watering hole a part of my soul! Ahh, I don't know about it being a "steak house" per se. It really is more of a salloon with bar grub and a 12 oz sirloin on the menu. Came here to meet a friend, it is a good half way point from the deep IE and the deep OC. Reminds me of a honky tonk dive in Dallas. Totally cool vibe here and very relaxed and casual. They even have a huge poster of our President...G.W. Bush. Don't come for the service, stay for the cold pitchers of Amber Bock. Our bartender/server was certainly not trained in food service. I stood at the bar for about a minute while she finished texting her pal. Then kept asking for my food order despite not having a menu and not really knowing what my options were. I love this place! This is the ONLY place I have ever eaten a fish taco! They have happy hour until 7pm with free pool. Yes it's Norco but the tacos are great and the nachos are so delicious. It's a great place to have a drink and some grub before the regulars come trickling in. The bartenders are always friendly and hook up the drinks! I always stop by when i am in the area. This is the most accurate review for the Maverick! I visit a ton of country clubs and bars everywhere I go. I'm also the President of the United States Honky-Tonk Bar Association. After seeing so many whacks and bad reviews, I decided that I should check this place out to give anyone reading these reviews an accurate point of view for a honky tonk bar. I visited two nights in a row, just to make sure that I did an accurate review. That being said, this is a fantastic bar! The management and staff are always absolutely amazing! They're very personable, humble, and they treat you right! I do not understand any of the reviews that claimed these guys are discriminating in anyway, since I am one of the brownest Cowboys you'll ever meet! LOL. They always pour a great drink, the live bands were really fun, the dance floor may be small, but everybody is very accommodating and dancing was no problem. If you are a line dancer, you'll get a little mix of that but mostly they do a great job playing a lot of variety. If you happen to go during the time when the DJ is playing, he'll play your request, but just know that they are limited with some of their more authentic country like Cody Johnson, Cody jinks and others. they have a lot of room as well which I really liked so it kept things not as packed as the dance floor oh, so whether you like to be in the patio, or side there's plenty of room. overall is just a great fun country bar, that you can have a great time hanging out and people are pretty darn friendly! huge shout out to all the staff, that are so so amazing! The house band is good. It's a shame that Mavericks doesn't show much respect for them. The bar had their radio blaring while the band was on (they turned it off after the singer asked them to.. but only for about 10 minutes..). That wasn't as bad as how the bar kept the Home Shopping Network playing in the background on TV BEHIND them - even AFTER the band commented on it. I asked for "a pint of bud light" and the bartender gave me a TWELVE OUNCE BOTTLE. Charged $4.25 for it, too. I hope this review helps them to improve. It's a nice place with a great location and a decent house band (the Kim Martin Band) - I think maybe they just needs a little common sense. read more
