I BEAT THE SHUT UP JUICE CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With that being said. I drove thirty minutes each way out of my way to take this challenge. I went in an ordered the challenge was told the rules and asked if I wanted slaw on the sandwich. I said can you put it on the side. (by the way they charged for a side of slaw, when all I wanted was what was going to come on the sandwich on the side...sneaky sneaky) Thinking if I need it I will have it. I sat down and started the challenge a there was a few people setting around watching. I finished the challenge fairly quickly. I would say between 8 and 9 minutes and 5 minutes of that is the waiting period. I can't say much for the taste of anything and the challenge is brutally hot. With that being said I don't think the heat bothered me till after I was finished eating. Really hard to keep it down, and by advice from those who work there I wouldn't try to keep it down after the challenge is over if I were you. I completed the challenge and got the t-shirt. The worst part was yet to come. As I eventually did throw up several times over the next several hours and had some of the worst stomach cramps I have ever had. I was only the 210 person to complete this challenge out of over 13000. I wouldn't not recommend this challenge to anyone. The pain you will fill over the next 24 hours is not fun. For atmosphere of the restaurant it was fun. The taste of the bbq...as I said when I was leaving....I have heard they have good bbq but I wont find out this time. Stay on I -40 unless you are planning to torchering yourself with the challenge. If you want good BBQ wait till you get to Memphis or OKC as there are several places in both cities. read more

We ordered takeout as their dining room is still closed ! The meat was delicious and the cheese dip was very good!! Would certainly have preferred to have eaten in to enjoy the food, but we were very pleased with quality of the food!! Look forward to visiting again when we can eat inside!! So as someone who grew up in Cabot, I can tell you that Mean Pig is an institution there. This is not the best BBQ you'll ever eat. It couldn't compete with Memphis or Texas BBQ, generally speaking. But it's good and will leave you satisfied. read more

We traveled a very long way, just to make it before they closed to try the shut up sauce. After an eight hour drive from Atlanta, in which we expressed, they gave us very mediocure service. We were excited, they were not. Cook even came out of the back, talked with the locals friendly, then just asked us if we liked it. Tried the shut up sauce and at least it was good, as well as the frito pie, and they even charged us the $1 to take a sample of the sauce, after spending over a $100 for the trip and stay there. Definately not worth the hype. At least not for these African American visitors. read more

Overpriced and food was not good. Actually made my stomach a bit queasy which pretty much never happens. Ribs were mostly fat and not a true half rack. Sides come in little kiddie cups. Total rip off. Forgot cookie in kids meal and were out of a fountain drink. Save yourself a bad experience and go to Smokin Buns or Whole Hog. read more

I eat at The Mean Pig several times a month. Some of the best BBQ around. Usually a jumbo pork hot with slaw. The beans are patented and the best I have ever had. The ribs are very good as well. If you have it in you try the Shut Up Juice Challenge. Ordered 1/2 slab of ribs and one pulled pork and one chopped beef sandwich. I use to come here a lot in 2015 and 2016, considered this place above average BBQ. If you look at the other reviews in 2016 getting praise in 2017 not so much. The ribs were the only thing we could eat. Dry ribs but cover them with enough sauce u can get by. Pulled pork and chopped brisket both tasted like it came directly out of a stale kitchen sink. Horrible flavor. So went back to counter to get more sauce to try to cover up the bad flavor and was told it would cost 25 cents more per cup. Really spend more money to cover up a nasty sandwich. I think not. Left the sandwiches on the table. Sad sad sad. Hate this because I used to really like the place. read more

When I was thinking 'Mean Pig', I was thinking something with a little more kick. I was disappointed but there were some things to like. The staff was really nice and gave me extra BBQ sauce without charging me. I asked them why they didn't charge me and they said it depended on their mood. Ha ...it might have helped that I said this was my first time here and I was excited about it. The 3 sauces were all ketchup based with a mild, sweet, and hot. Overall, they were pretty good. I had the 2 meat plate with chopped pork and brisket. Both of which tasted really bland. Baked beans which they say are patented had an unique taste to them. They were different and had more of a smoky hickory taste to them with some meat mixed in. Potato salad was good but nothing special. Sweet tea was satisfying but the atmosphere was really quiet. Not much to it. Seems like they try to push their ribs with the big sign outside and you have to buy ribs separate. I might have to come back and see but I don't think I will go out of my way for it. Stopped here on road trip even though we had to go about 15 miles out of our way. Found it through "Man vs Food", one of my teenage son's fave tv shows, so we decided to give it a try! Worth the side tracking off our route. Ribs were excellent and HUGE! Half rack was more than enough for my kids and I to share, along with son's giant pulled pork sandwich and daughter's kids' meal pork sandwich. Hubby was too full from his meal to even try the ribs. Baked beans and coke slaw also very tasty! Messy faces and hands means good BBQ! I would definitely recommend. Arkansas that can compete with the BBQ i get back home in east texas... and if your adventurous you can try the challenge, had 2 friends who were (one completed it and walked out with the shirt!) but needless to say I am not. i can not say enough for the quality of the people who work there. spent a lot of time talking with them and talk BBQ with them (i smoke some on my own - but nowhere near their level) if you want BBQ and are anywhere near cabot this is the place to go. read more

Excellent one of the best places in Arkansas you can eat BBQ.. Man verse food was at mean Pig 2ith his popular television show. Word spread far and wide, about how great the BBQ was. So Man Verses Food , decided their "famous taste tester" must test them out.. An i can say Mean Pig met his approval and and they agreed Mean Pig Is one Of The Best. I have gone twice. The first time wasn't great, but my husband and I went back for the shut up challenge (I watched). Way better experience over all the second time. And my husband won a t-shirt. I think it all depends on how many customers are dining in at the time since most of my complaints from my first visit had to do with not being able to hear over any one and I could barely get from my table to refill my drink. I dont understand the bad reviews, they are seriously laughable. Better BBQ at a gas station? Manwich and pork and beans? You guys are the same people that think Bud Light is a good beer I take it? Being from Minnesota this was the first BBQ place I've had in the "South". I've tried a lot of BBQ places in the 6 years I've lived here and The Mean Pig is by far the best BBQ restaurant hands down. I have personally been blessed to meet the owner of this place and I can tell you he is one hard working man! He puts all the love he's got into this food, his workers, family and friends. My initial review of this place was composed without much forethought, and was carelessly worded, such that I overstated some of my misgivings. After being reached out to by the owner, I'd like to revise my thoughts. I strive to be evenhanded and thorough in my reviews, and I didn't do a good job the first time. Anyway... The truth is, this is a good barbeque place. To my knowledge, it's the only REAL barbeque place in Cabot. Their closest competition doesn't hold a candle. Everything I've had here was good. The sauce is a breath of fresh air in the south: not too sweet, not too vinegary. The ribs are good, and the coleslaw is too. That's part of my problem with the sides: I'm left wanting more every time. 4 oz is like five bites for me. But maybe that's just me. Their famous Shut Up Juice is NO JOKE. I'm a fan of all things spicy, and this sauce made me stand up and pay attention. You wouldn't want it on every bite, it's mostly a novelty, but it's worth a try for any firebreather. One of my main beefs with Mean Pig is I feel their hours are too limited. When I first moved to Cabot, I got a hankering for ribs on a Monday, only to find I couldn't have any. Perhaps they have a perfectly good reason for being closed Sundays and Mondays, but that doesn't help me any. Can't win 'em all, I suppose. I will go back to Mean Pig. I like this place. My only real issue is that I want more. I'm a Kansas City native, and therefore EXTREMELY opinionated about barbeque, and fiercely loyal to my hometown institutions. Mean Pig is good enough for me to eat more than once and that's saying a lot. It's real barbeque in a part of the country where I didn't think I'd find such a thing.
