We stopped at The Meatery, after reading about it on the Eat and Drink Monterey facebook group, looking for kielbasa and lamb sausages. It being somewhat near lunchtime, we decided to eat before making a big meat investment. I had The Brisket, hold the BBQ sauce. This is some of the best meat I have had in my 68 years. The tender meat had perfect smoky flavor with a wonderful layer of juicy buttery carmelized fat. That fat--OMG!! It meant no lubricant was needed on the bun. The rub wasn't salty or sweet--actually I just tasted beautifully smoke meat, which is my preference. There were some pickled onions and I think the bun was a hamburger bun, but ooooh that brisket!!! 10 out of 10! Hubby had a French dip, which I thought was excellent. But he was a bit taken aback by the cheese and the sesame seeds on his roll. I normally don't like French dip--soggy with a side of bullion. But I liked the cheese and sesame seeds and the dip was authentic beef juice. We ended up taking home blood, lamb, and kielbasa sausages (all made in house) and a boar shoulder roast (now defrosting in the fridge for Sunday dinner). I conferred with the chef who was happy to suggest ways to cook the boar; now looking for the perfect wine to cook it in. The types and quality and cuts of meat are phenomenal. The Meatery is open only Thurs-Sat. It's not a huge place (look for Baskin Robbins, which is closest to the street in the same complex), but well-decorated in industrial modern, with charcuterie boards, oils, sauces, wines etc on display. Beer is also available--fun and local beers. Beware there is one salad, which is a wedge with dressing and bacon. Not a place to take vegan or vegetarian friends. Service is helpful and friendly; they treated us like neighbors. I suggest going at 11am, when they've just finished setting up for lunch and have that BRISKET!! Pic showing brisket with yummy fat. Had the Pastrami sando! Maybe 3oz of meat at best, bread was nice, the combination of the pickled fennel, sauce and pickles has way to much acidity. The meat and sausage case was just extremely sloppy. Everything piled on top of everything. Dried out and acadised. I've had a better Pastrami at Quiznos for 1/3 the price. I came to The Meatery on Wed the day before Thanksgiving. I wanted some Prime Rib Eyes. I was helped immediately and was show some of the best looking steaks ever. I took them home and cooked them up with a couple bottles of Pinot Noir. Delicious and tender. Best flavor ever. read more

What an amazing place for prepared food, fresh meat, and even great wine/beer. The owners are friendly and helpful; they are clearly passionate about good food! It is very difficult to find a good Reuben outside of the east coast. The Reuben from The Meatery is hands down the best Reuben that I have had on the West Coast. It's not cheap and it's not fast, but it's absolutely worth the wait and the price. Came here for to pick up sandwiches for a picnic. The service overall was good and QUICK - they had our sandwiches ready in less than 5 minutes!!! Pretty fast to me... Our group tried a range of their sandwiches including the daily special (brisket sandwich, I believe?). We all agreed that the meats were REALLY good and pretty high quality, but the sandwich itself as a whole did not impress a whole lot. I thought the baguette was of average quality - I could find better at a more standard sandwich shop, but I guess this place is mostly for their meats. I arrived right on time for my pickup. The service model once inside sucked, frankly. Lots of people who I think were "walkups" were served before me, even though I told them my name, they had my order in their logs, and my sandwiches were ready. No one wants to stand indoors with a bunch of other people for an extra 20 minutes during a pandemic when the order should have been ready and waiting. MIND BLOWING GOOD. second time here. Out of this world yummy. First time we can we tried the ham grill cheese. So rich and decadent we shared it. Plus a roast beef which just has delish. But today floored me. Brisket sandwich with horseradish mayo and provolone. The most tender brisket. Not over seasoned or smoked. Wow. I mean WOW. Love this place. But super $$$$. So I came in to try all the sausages and what a mistake. These are the worst sausages I've ever had in my life. Threw away 90% of them. They are way over seasoned and extremely dry. Even cooked to perfect temp. The chicken sausage lacks any fat so it just tastes like saw dust. I tried to give most away and everyone just cooked it and threw it in the trash. I used the chorizo which I was told is their flagship sausage to make a breakfast scramble. I had to throw the entire thing away because the sausage was so salty. It was inedible. I have a couple packs left. I was thinking of returning them just to get a couple bucks back but I'll probably just take the loss and throw them in the garbage too. Very disappointing. I tried the Mac and cheese and it was pretty good and the brisket was good but bland. Was cooked in an oven not smoked and barely seasoned but its more versatile that way. I hope they aren't going for a BBQ style. I'll probably try a sandwich at some point or some of their cuts of meat for grilling. I gave it a higher mark because the service is good. The old owners had the worst employees ever that were slow and didn't care if you were there or not. Now the owners are extremely nice and I'm hoping this is just some growing pains. Definitely scrap all the sausage recipes and either just buy from a third party or look up some recipes. I use to make sausage at a butcher and they are pretty easy to make. read more

This place has all the meats, sides, and dips you would need for your holiday. The amount of meat they have here is pretty overwhelming, but there was a nice guy at the counter that helped me and my group pick out the best meats. We got the Bison, Dry aged ribeye beef, natural ribeye beef, grass fed ribeye beef, and ribeye mafiosos. They were all delicious cooked at home. I am so sad that this place has been hiding right under my nose for 7 months without me trying it sooner! Went to The Meatery this last weekend. Loved the sign on the outside, the decor inside is great, and the food absolutely does not disappoint! I had the Ham and Gouda sandwich. Sounds so simple, but absolutely the best sandwich I've had for... since I can remember! The quality is great - perfect sourdough crisp goodness, melty cheese, grilled onions add a touch of sweet. It's just SO good! My love had the Muffuletta and that was also awesome! There's an olive tapenade that makes the sandwich extra special. The butcher shop case was so tempting. All kinds of perfect cuts and some unique items mixed in too. I can't wait to go back and splurge on the Wagyu beef, or grab some of their buttermilk fried chicken, or their handmade sausage, or maybe their meatballs. All looked so good! The little store/restaurant is also filled with local products including Happy Girl Kitchen jams and jellies. It's great to see a local business sharing the love with other local businesses! Between the consistently disappointing service (slow/unorganized and blasé on a good day; downright snotty on a bad one), dropping $80 plus per visit on multiple visits to never hear even a tiny 'thank you', pricing issues (items rang up at higher prices than their butcher paper sign noted, more than once), and the general vibe that they seem inconvenienced by their patrons, I won't be back. And it won't be hard, even if I have to drive a ways to a good butcher shop. These people don't deserve your or my business. read more

We stopped in for lunch the other day and was delighted we did. A very clean and kitch looking place. Beautiful tile work and the ceilings are amazingly designed. The meats all looked fresh and well cut. We ordered from the hot bar and the prices were not too out of line from what you'd find at another meat counter. I think it was $8.49/lbs for the meats. We had Tried-Tip and Ribs and both were great. Well seasoned and juicy. Plenty of drinks to choose from and chips and salads too. Our only drawback was the limited seating inside. There were only 3 tables to choose from. If those are full you are SOL. Maybe some outside seating in the future. Although with the dirt lot next door I saw a lot of dust flying up so maybe a hurdle.
