My overall first experience was Great! Not only does the Melt have great customer service but the wait time wasnt too bad during lunch rush. With Edgar's help, I tried the patty melt with avocado, with sweet potato fries and a mint chocolate chip milkshake. Edgar was not only very polite but also very patient because with so many choices I couldn't decide what I wanted. I ended up asking him for a recommendation and I loved the sandwich. The mushroom Swiss burger is very good. Cooked perfect and flavorful! Strawberry shake was also good. Fries are just average slightly dry and I didn't care for the melt seasoning on the fries. Nicely staffed with insightful crew. We were welcomed in for their "test run." Rich comfort food. Everything looks enticing. They allowed us to get whatever we wanted, so we didn't hold back. We went for the Mac Daddy, Melt Burger, Patty Melt, Three Cheese Classic, Bacon Florentine Mac and Cheese, Cheese and Bacon Fries, all To Go. Unfortunately, our order got mixed up and we didn't receive one of our sandwiches and three of our sides. I can only imagine how good they would have been, compared to what we did receive. First time here and my friends recommended swiss & mushroom but it turned out I was completely disappointed that only negligible amount of mushroom was in my burger. I even thought they messed up my order and flipped the bun to find out that tiny amount of mushroom. My friend ordered the same thing and got the same amount of mushroom as shown on their menu. If you want a good grilled cheese sandwich this is the place to go. I've gone to the one in Berkeley (the original) a couple times and it's good as well. To be completely honest the first time I had the one in Berkeley it was the best then they expanded their menu and it wasn't as good as the first time however it was still good. However this review is about the La Jolla Melt not the Berkeley one. I got the Italian job grilled cheese and I liked it. The restaurant is quick and clean. I also enjoy their beverage choices, specifically their lemonade. It's fresh and delicious. I am deducting one star though because it is a bit pricy. read more

I ordered Uber Eats and the food was ehhh. The fries kinda looked nasty the Mac n cheese had some good bites but some that tasted "off" and the food wasn't correct. My son doesn't like cheese so his burger had to be given to the dog. I don't like jalapeños so I had to suffer through it with the sauce they put on. Wow. Best grilled cheese ever. I hate when my grilled cheese is too greasy, I saw another reviewer mention her sandwich was greasy and the owner responded and suggested she try asking for unbuttered bread next time. I ordered mine without the butter on the bread and it was fantastic. The bread toasted up much better than I expected. It wasn't greasy at all. Most importantly my grilled cheese did not have any bits of meat stuck in it nor did it taste like it has been grilled where bacon/ham had been. There is nothing worse than a grilled cheese that tastes like meat. These guys did a fantastic job. The fries were hot and delicious and the pickle was cold and crisp. The melt burger is my go to which you can't go wrong with but honestly anything on their menu is amazing. Came across this place while shopping at Nordstrom's. I am a cheese person, love anything with cheese but I was disappointed with this place. Ordered the mac n cheese, the moment you see it you could tell it's very dry, i mean come on mac n cheese should be all cheesy and creamy. So i took it back and told one of the staff, they were nice and said they're gonna remake it.. waited a couple minutes then I got the new one, i tried it, it was creamier a little bit but was SUPER salty I just couldn't eat it!!!! My husband got the patty melt, was okay taste wise but VERY greasy. My son got the kids cheeseburger, greasy as well!! Honestly, I don't think we'll ever go back again.
